Hey everyone!

Well, now that the season is finally opproaching...haha...i was wondering what are some good beginner tricks and jumps?

Im not a beginner when it comes to boarding, i would put myself at an intermediate level, but whenever i go riding, i generally stick to the mountian and the trails rather then going into the park because i dont really know were to being.  Over the summer i picked up my first complete snowboard package (never have to rent again) so im getting myself a season pass and i want to spend some time in the park after i get use to my new board.

...just wondering, does the board really make a difference between park and all mountain...i was told that i got a good all mountain board...so will i be able to use it in the park? Palmer Classic is my board.

Thanks!

Grabs are easy.

I practice them when I'm just standing still.

Just grab the board however you like it.

If you want to get "by the books"

Play a game like amped 1 or 2.

(This winter, I intend to broaden the snowboard trick horizon... hopefully, they'll allow videos than.)
The last thing i said was important. Put it on your fridge.

Well, first things first, do you have the basics down? Ie: ollies, nollies, tail/nose presses. Can you ride switch? Etc etc? If no to any of these questions, don't even think about approaching park features until you have basic freestyle skills down.

Agreed.
Also, be sure to start small.  Hopefully your resort has a beginner park, or at least beginner features in their main park.  Also, don't hit rails until you've hit some flat boxes first.  And if possible, don't do any ollie-on rails/boxes until you've tried ride-on rails/boxes so you get the feel and balance of being on those features.

There's no problem in that at all.  It's cool to see someone acknowledge that (as opposed to try and sack up and hit the park, then hurt himself or someone else).  You'll have just as much fun doing the stuff to get the basics to enter the park as the stuff you'll eventually do in the park.

^^ I agree. You will make a much better and not to mention smarter park rider with that attitude. That and you will be respected so much more there too. It is so much fun learning new tricks regardless of whether or not you are in the park.

I totally know what its like to see somebody get hurt because he tried something stupid.

I was hiking the flat-down rail at my park and this guy was there with his gf(?).

He was debating whether he wanted to hit it or not. He asked me how it was, I told him, if he had to ask, than he shouldn't do it. I also, told him to do a run to check it out first.

I guess I miffed him, and he decided to hit it. He didn't jump, and somehow broke his legs and cracked some ribs.

And of course I had to get ski patrol.
They had the rail shut down for like an hour!

It was messed up, but at the same time I kinda felt he deserved it. (Maybe not to that extreme. Either way, I guess I'm a bad person.)

a biggest reason i dont venture into the park is because i honestly dont know what to do and i also dont spend enough time on the mountain to truely learn (that is changing this year now that i will be getting a season pass)...i would rather learn the basics first then do something stupid and get myself hurt...and like you guys say, others will have more respect for me if i learn the basics first...this will also help me out later when i want to learn bigger tricks and stuff...

thanks for the comments...

Yo man, if you want help.

I'm always at Creek.

Look for Bleezie.

I'm one of the only two black snowboard instructors.

I'm the younger one with the mask on all the time, and screaming at the top of my lungs.

Catch me when I'm not in a lesson.

At times I might blow you off cuz I have other plans with friends, though. (But I'm there 100x times more than them.

That might change, because a friend of mine might become an instructor too.

I'm trying to convince him to.

Congratulations on being one of the best new snowboarders I have heard about.  Not thinking they are bigger than they are and being able to admit that they have stuff to learn before they venture into the park.  If Bleezie wasn't an instructor, I was going to suggest to take an Into to Park lesson.  They are always a good way to progress and learn new skills (contrary to popular belief, lessons aren't just for beginners).  It sounds like you got a good handle on what you need... Good luck and have fun.

I give from beginner up.

I'm suppose to have been AASI certified like 3 years ago... but never went.

Hope to be able to go for level one this year.

As far as teaching tricks, I'm not the best.

I can explain it, but my supervisor is awesome at that.

Lets put it this way, he can 720 over the flat down rail and he teaches the rest of the instructors new stuff.

I always go to him for advice.

He helped me get my 540 with style.

He also trains people for comps.
(Time for me to keep progressing.)

A press is when you put your weight over the tip or tail of your board, and lift the other end up. So, if you decided to do a "tail press" that means you put your weight over the tail of your board, and lift the tip up.

I'm as well looking to get into parks. I'm pretty comfortable with my ollie... but any tips on how to nollie, tail/nose press? I'm fully aware that I am no where near prepared to enter the park, but would definitley like to work up to that point. Any other basic I should know before enter? If so, any tips on those as wells?

Learn how to ride switch competently. I already did a brief explantion on how to do a tail press. The same concept applies to the nose press. If you can nollie, then ollying should be easier. It's the same concept, exept off your tail (duh). Once you know how to ollie, nollie, etc etc, learn how to do basic tricks on flat ground, etc etc, like 180's and stuff. Once you have those down, I think you should be golden to enter the park. Instructors, please feel free to add or correct me.

well, ive been boarding for about 3 years now, and i can barely do a grab. i cant do tail press or nose press...im decent on just riding the moutain but im not good at park, actually i suck. i go in the beginner park just to get the feel of jumping and try a indy. i dont know why but i can do presses. i think its because im a bit fat :( but at least your modest and arent like some people i know that suck and still think they are awsome. btw everyone in theis thread, it helped me too.

If not being fat was a requirement for doing presses (or any other trick for that matter) there is no way I would be allowed near a park.  The biggest problem I see with learning presses is just being off balance to begin with.  By off balance, I mean that as opposed to just moving your weight straight forward or backward, you end up rotating your body around and sending it into more of a butter and not changing the weight from the leading edge.  While butters are cool, if you are not prepaired for them and you catch that edge, they can throw you a bit.  Once you get one, it will just be like a light switch turned on for the opposite as well.
