Hi

im from east coast canada. Me and my girlfriend went to valle nevado for snowboarding. Condition was nice, but the rest was horrible. everyone in chile try to steal your money, people at the hotel (tres puntas) were really not fine. concierge at the hotel even try to charge us 260$ to get a taxi down the mountain!!! Isn't he suppose to work for us?!? I've heard some people going to north in chile finding some good places with snowcat. I would never ever ever return to valle nevado. Room were soooo small you can't even imagine... especially at that prices! I could have get a condo with kitchen at Whistler for almost the same price! Believe me... this year we'll go in Vail... south america can forget me, people there are sucker and all they want is your money. I won't even talk about people in santiago....

Hehey, I think that's really interesting methodmath. I have travelled places myself (not south america though) where it completely sucks to be a tourist, especially a blonde girl tourist, and it's not cool. However, I think it is really really sad to hear about your experience in chile. If any locals from the area read this it would be good if you add your point of view, especially as I was hoping on going somewhere in south america and explore their snow. cheers

hey man relax!!! don't insult the chilean people coz you had a bad experience down here,  i also been riding in canada and and in the hotel was the same thing, you know trying to charge me stuff that i even didn't use or eat. The point is that you can't classify chile like 'everyone try to steal your money' so please man show some respect for the people you don't know.

here are some recomendation drom a chilean snowboarder:
- stay at farellones (is a close village from valle nevado, el colorado and la parva ski resorts)coz is so much cheaper, here some web of hoztel and hotel
www.farellones.cl  (hotel)

- never take taxis from the hotel specialy in valle nevado!! just take buses or shuttles

-and here is the web of snowcat thing www.skiarpa.com

if somebody have more cuestion just ask

I agree that this could be easier, but since I don't speak a word of spanish and w had all our lugage, I don't see how we could have ride with some local. I agree I may have been rude about  people in chile and I'm sorry about it. For those of you who are fine please excuse me. But, I still have to say that we went in Santiago, and after that in Valparaiso and Vina Del mar, and wherever we were going, it was almost always the same stories.

I may come back sometimes to ride some snowcat tour in chile, but the experience I had with valle nevado will remains in my brain for a long period of time believe me. At the same time I was there, some of my friends were there too to shot the 2007 catalog for Burton (I went at school with DCP that's why I know him) and they told me they had some problem too with the people working at the resort.

No offence guys. If you ever plan to spend 2500$ like I did for a snowboard week in Canada, please call me or write me. I'll make sure you'll have a much better experience I had. I guess tourism in chile is still not developed enough yet for people to walk around and don't have a real plan, especially if they don'T speak spanish.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry you had some problems. People on this forum want you to sugar coat things and apologize. FUCK THAT! you had a few bad experiences and felt the need to point those out. I would like to think
not everything is perfect at these resorts.
