Words of Wisdom

"Reality are what dreams are made of so if you dream of sun filled days in powder snow the only way to find deep untracked powder snow like this is to quit your job in the city, pack your stuff in a trailer and move to steamboat. Remember something I’ve been saying for years, if you don't do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do."

~Warren Miller’s “STORM”

"Each of us alone could have ridden a few great waves, but together we have ridden so many of the greatest waves and that team work and that camaraderie and that sharing of the experience is what life is all about. My friends have brought me places I that I never thought I could go."

~Laird

"...express yourself be creative, and there' s no rules you know every-other sport has certain rules and snowboarding is just basically the only rule is to have fun."

~ Nicolas Muller in "91 Words for Snow"

hey bud,
personally I like the sx.
Every style of board matches a certain style of riding. I mean I've seen people out there in waddell competing with skimboards, surfboards, wakeboards w/straps; w/bindings. Then if you narrow the field to the wakeboard style of riding, then you ask your self are you over powered or underpowered alot? do you want an edge that will bite on every move you make or be a bit more for giving. do you want to sacrifice strength for lightweight?

Also the stringer, core materials and laminates are different in kitesurfboards too; The board its self is a lot stronger and it can take the beating that kitesurfing provides.
But all in all, if you want to compare the surfboard to a kitesurfboard in terms of performance, It really depends on your riding style. if you see your self kitesurfing (powered with a surfboard) then get a kitesurfboard. If you see your self surfing-with-a-kite (depowered, wave riding) Then use a shorty, possibly a 6' or less pintail.

 alright I gota dash.

As far as boards go. I used to shape surfboards in the highschool days and then quickly transitioned in to kiting. I love the wake feel, though its hard to hold the edge in the surf.  I also made my self a "buzz" board, originally designed by Jerry Lewis. Which is a small board built for holding a lot of power in the kite, no fins, but the bottom concave is shaped to act as if there were fins and in fact works better than fins do to the less amount of drag.
And then there is my 6'3 surfboard, I've taken out kitesurfboards on demo days and I really don't see the difference on how they feel. Though with regular surf boards they are built so you can gain speed paddling, pop up and ride the wave. But with kitesurfboards the rider dose not have to worry about paddling so the rocker is shaped differently and also there is less volume to the board. so supposedly the rider would have a better "feel" more fluid and not as stiff feel.

Oh ya waddel is sweet, head high waves, 20+ cross-shore winds, miles of beach and a protected launch area. way to many people though, kiteboarding has booomed hugely in the past couple of years I cant launch with out stepping on someones toes. haha

Ya I was thinking about the Bow's, but I saw that one reversed its self in the surf and took off.. and now Im hearing that that happens a lot with the bow's hopefully they fix that with 07.
Now I still have the 2004 fuels along with some ancient 2 line kites: the liquid force 2001 flight kites and the wipika 2003 infernos I still like the raw boat towing power of the two lines.

Oh ya rock the kiteworld? Sweet.
your right the SS knock out even sizes. That was back in 2004 and I was coming from Naish who made those sizes.

my local spot is at waddel beach and the swell really take a beating on a kite when you down it, and I didn't have nearly as much kitemares with the SS fuel, (shi*t happens.)
u'll like the fuels.

Have you tried any of the Bow's?
