come on snow! i can feel you trying. just keep on coming.

Ok, so i've been looking at a ton of snowboard shots lately, and frankly, i'm bored of looking at them. so i picked half a dozen shots that i really like and put them up. if you wanna see switch backlips on 40 sets, don't check out my new photos.

it's snowing in Whistler. i almost forgot that we were in January.

i'm listening to Interpol on high rotation, there is a something really familiar about them, it's like i've been listening to them for years and this is their new album. except i haven't.

i'm a simple man, i don't need much, but i need good music, i need good friends, and a little snow sprinkled around the edges sure makes everything a little bit nicer.

"We've got a lot of time. Or maybe we don't,
but I'd like to think so, so let me pretend.
These are my favourite chords. I know you like them too.
When I get a new guitar, you can have this one
and sing me a lullaby. Sing me the alphabet.
Sing me a story I haven't heard yet."

i'm so sick of the weather. it's making me it's bitch.

not too much bugs me, but when CD's disappear from my CD case, that bugs me, i mean, there is the cover, right there, but the CD is gone. I really wanted to listen to "wave of mutilation" this afternoon, and Doolittle is just not there. poof. i was nice to it, i don't think it ran away...

Oh Johnette, life has treated you like a dishrag and you've taken that gristle and rent pure emotion. You wear your heartbreak like a wet wool coat and even though it weighs you down it keeps you warm. Oh Johnette, the things it's done to you, this life. And the things you've given back, tearing tiny strips off your very soul and throwing them into the void. We're all out there, in the void, wandering and wondering, waiting to find a little strip of your soul.

a few new shots up today. stuff from last week.

yesterday was a really good day riding. we had a huge crew that stuck together all day, rode both mountains and found some really good, really deep snow. hit run on crystal was good too. devun is so good that it's scary, and shin continues to blow my mind.

go fast, take chances.

snow is falling on our sad little town. friends are phoning from far away and far back, everyone has a story to share about Craig. what is with this snow obsession? we chase it down even as it takes our friends. and in the end, our thirst isn't quenched, we just look for more, deeper, further away.

pray for all us fools.

i put up some photos of Craig for everyone to check out.

Today i traded my JP Solberg for a JP Walker. Either way I win, they both rip. It was really, really warm up there today, shirts off for awhile. In January.

We found a couple things today and Lukas hucked himself into the tightest little landing. The crew was a little smaller than yesterday and easier to manage, the day went a little smoother, still, i can't wait to get out with the euro kids again...

Photos from today are up now.

a long day in sled land today with Heikki, Lukas, browner and JP Solberg. JP and Heikki bought brand new sleds. It's good to see them buzzing around and learning. It's good snow for learning to sled. Too bad it's not DEEP FRESH POWDER.

I'll put up some photos after i shower off the two-stroke exhaust.

Ok, a few shots from today up now.

Due to lack of interest in Dano Rockstar photos, they will stay in my personal collection...

i like it when i get to meet a rider that i haven't worked with before, and they turn out to be a good egg. i like good eggs.

Heikki Sorsa first showed up on my radar just before he did that huge air at the arctic challenge quarterpipe. his name was getting thrown around by all the folks who had been out to europe that season. then when he did the biggest quarterpipe air ever the whole snowboard world got to know his name. but i really took notice when he showed up at the olympics with a mowhawk. how rad is that? i loved that shit.

heikki hasn't ridden a snowmobile much, one, maybe two days. so what did we do? we took him up the nastiest, sketchy trail through the trees. he did so well, never got stuck, didn't complain, it was awesome. he's going to be part of our crew this year. that makes me happy.

it was grey most of the day so we didn't get much done, but it gave those guys a chance to do a whole bunch of free runs. those days are so fun, just watching browner, lukas, and heikki ride while i sled all over the place. right at the end of the day the sun came out for a few minutes and it was perfect up there. a whole mountain range to ourselves, sunny, nice snow. epic.

i have so many photos to post form pete's bday last night and today, but i don't have time. check back later.

i feel better today.

there is almost enough new snow to be good, but not quite. i made a couple turns that were fun today, but they were right at the very tiptop peak of the whole enchilada. below that it was more of the dust on crust. if you were to drop any cliffs right now, you'd be feeling the bottom for sure. so we ended up in the park.

there is a whole generation of kids who go up the hill and just ride park. they own the place and to watch them is impressive. repetition will do that for you. I feel sad that snowboarding has turned into such a specialized sport where kids don't ride outside the manmade, but on the other hand, the more kids that stay in there, the more new snow gets left for the rest of us.

the park spawns a weird social atmosphere though, kids who ride it more, feel a sense of ownership, of superiority. in my eyes though, that kind of arrogance is the sign of someone who has reached their potential, come to the end of their road. they've planted their flag on the park and said this is my peak. i guess in that sense, the park is the end of the line for them. the pinacle of what they will accomplish in snowboarding.

whatever, i'm rambling. go read liviya's journal entry, it's way cooler.

I'm always genuinely surprised when i get sick. It's like: "What the hell is this? Fever, shakes? I'm not even hungover!" So When Fox called me to shoot a photo yesterday, and i had a hard time dragging my carcass out to shoot the easiest setup, i knew something was coming down the pipe. By the time I got home it was all hot and cold, achey, yuck. So I made a big fire, laid down on the couch, pulled up a big blanket and rode it out.

Sorry to the people i was supposed to do things with last night, sorry I didn't answer the phone. I have a bit of a headache this morning, but for the most part I feel fine. Weird...

it's a cold, grey day here in disneyland. grey is ok if it brings snow, not so much if it just sits at twenty seven thousand feet and looks foreboding...

there is a new photo up this evening, take a look.

the thing about stage fright is this, it's a self imposed fear. you can always just NOT go on stage. except last night. i had to go on stage last night, i had to do it for Zack.

Lessons learned from my first onstage music experience:

- there is a reason why musicians do sound check together.

- friends will get you through it.

- if you have a guitar in your hand, don't forget to play it.

- it's over before you know it, try to enjoy it.

- Your friends won't hold it against you if you aren't Jimi Hendrix, and strangers, well, f*ck strangers.

One new photo from last night up. If Peter emails me the shots of me i may put one of those up later.

it looked so nice when i got up this morning, sunny, warm. inviting. TJ and I left the house around 8:30 and met with Lukas and Anthony in the parking lot. After unloading sleds we headed up into the alpine. the snow is pretty crappy and it's really hard to sled in, especially if you haven't sledded much.Tj found out the hard way what it's like to sled in flat light on shit snow. check the fresh photos in my photo section. pure comedy.

today i saw a couple of girls skiing along in t-shirts. "Weren't they cold?" you ask. of course not, it was 6 degrees. (42 F)

Is it January or May? I can't be sure.

Today was one of those days when you think that there is no possible way that you could possibly get a photo. It was icy and grey and shitty, and right away i thought it was a write off.

But then we went a little higher, walked a few steps away from the run, and found what we needed. And as we got higher on the mountain we could see the craziest sky off in the distance, a gun metal blue sky, dark grey clouds, and milky white ones clinging to the sides of the mountains, and through it all these jagged white peaks, caked with snow from the winds we've had.

With that as a background, and a small patch of good snow that the wind had blown in, we went to work. In a few minutes we got the shot that we wanted and continued on down.

Almost immediatly after, the snow turned to shit, and it was a task just to ride to the bottom. Nothing that a little lunch with friends couldn't help though.

I don't know how many times I have to learn this lesson: Even on the worst looking days, there is a photo out there waiting to be found. As long as you are willing to look for it. Thanx to Brad for looking for it with me and getting the shot.

I'm sitting on the couch reading "Cash" by Johnny Cash. A big, warm storm is blowing off the Big Black Pacific and turning our powder playground into a sloppy nightmare. but i don't care, i've got a good book, a cup of hot tea, and soon my friends from out of town will be down from the mountain to tell me how good it actually was up there.

i think that planning is the death of spontaneity. so many people spend so much time and energy planning their new years eve, that it never turns out as good as they planned. this year i had no plans, and in the end i had the best time. follow your intuition and good times will find you. actually, that is more than just a theory for new years, it works pretty well when you apply it to life in general. thanx to all the people who made my night great, thanx to all the people who made my year great, and thanx to all the people who continue to make my life great.
