40 cm's again last night. bigger crowds though, and it wasn't snowing as hard so things got tracked out pretty quickly. i came down around one o'clock after a slog through the woods with fox. i was tired from yesterday and it was an easy excuse. they are trying to get the top of the mountain open and they probably will. i came down and bought electronics online. boxing day sales are fantastic...
the official word from the mountain is 141 cm's, or 55 inches in the last 48 hours.

Ho Ho Oh my God where did all this snow come from. The best present I've had in forever, feet of light, fantastic snow. It's a christmas miracle...
the official word is 99 cm's in the last 24 hours. that's 38 or so inches for my american friends. that was at 5 PM, it's been snowing ever since. if you can find a way to whistler for tommorow, i suggest that you do...

brrrrrrrr.
well, i've put it off long enough. it's time to go christmas shopping...
wow, that was easy. thanks to my two helpful elves and some last minute determination, i got everything i needed in no time at all.
the best christmas present i could ask for is falling from the sky right now, and they are calling for 30-40cms in the next 24 hours. we are the lucky ones.
if you want to give me a christmas present, just go into my members content and rank all my photos with 5's. thank you. ho ho hos are nice.

lesson for the day: snowboarding when it's shitty is still better than not snowboarding at all.
and shopping for christmas before the 24th is cheating.
Hilary is in town for a day and we had Indian food last night, then went for a drink with Brad. Brad is off to PG with Wes today. Hil and I rode the hill. huh huh. hil/hill. it's funny...
i'm having leftover Indian for lunch and it's just fine if i do say so myself. i still suck at drums, but it's a higher level of sucking than before.
i'm feeling pretty christmas/joy/festive today. hooray for holidays. and friends.

"sunday morning i'm waking up, can't even focus on my coffee cup"
i slept through the party i was supposed to attend last night. bad monkey.
Saturday, December 21, 2002
well, my internet is back, and so am i.
i have a hangover, i got my snowmobile back and it looks meaner than ever, snowboarding with rookie is wick, and i have a party to attend tonight. Joe Kovacs throws a mean christmas party, and a pretty sweet hangover hangout too. i think he served five or six courses, i mean, who does that in the real world?
i can't believe christmas is four days away, i am totally unprepared. which is typical. drinking and driving is stupid and that's all i have to say today.
one christmas-type photo up today

again today i awoke to the sounds of houseguests pounding above my head. but today was different. today was the last day of morning above-head pounding. they're gone. i spent all morning happily cleaning house, getting it back to a space i can live in, be comfortable in. having lived through ten days of three manly man dudes living in my house, i feel it is time to dispense some advice. if you are going to be a houseguest in the future, you should keep these things in mind:
1. In ten days a person uses a fair quantity of toilet paper (three people, more). a good houseguest will provide twice what they use.
2. Beer left in the fridge=good, bottle of scotch left in the cupboard=better. Empty beer box left in the fridge=insulting.
3. In ten days a person contributes to household garbage siginificantly. a trip to the compacter on the way out of town keeps everyone happy.
4. If you are sweetening your tea with honey from a soft plastic bear, chances are you have spilled some. react appropriatley.
5. It wouldn't kill you to strip the sheets from your bed and throw them in the laundry room.
6. If you are a stinky man type person, leaving your first layer on the kitchen floor after you're gone is not really helping anyone...
one new photo up this afternoon

today i drove to the city to get some film developed. while it was getting done, i hung out with my old room mate, colin whyte. colin is a good human being. you'd like him.
at his apartment i read a short story called "ode to oldcorn" by sam lipsyte. i liked it quite alot.
now i'm home and editing a stack of photos. they turned out quite well and i'll post some of them as the week goes on...
three new shots up tonight: one of HK on Whistler, and two of the Hot hot heat show the other night...

i had to come down at noon today. it was three deep days in a row and my early season legs screamed "hey! fucko, remember us?" and then i fell for no good reason and knew it was time for a break. it's ok. there are things to be done. like play drums while no one is home...
Sunday, December 15, 2002
31 centimeters is a lot of snow. when you've had the early season that we've had, it is close to miraculous. we got to the mountain early and it took a long time for them to get the lift open. it's a good sign when they are late getting things open, i t means that there is a lot of snow to move around.
after the first 45 seconds i knew it was going to be great. it was light, deep and i was with friends. i looked back to see sansalone with a look of amazement on his snow covered face. it was one of those first runs that stays in your head, that makes you get up a little earlier the next time. it restores faith in your mountain, the season, winter, everything. it's the reason we live here.
we lost sani and the skids after a run and TJ, HK and I went towards crystal ridge chair which had just opened. along the way there is a tight little chute called rookie and me. early season it is treacherous because it has some rocks in the middle and the drop into it is all exposed. it's too early to do it but we kinda weasled our way in after the drop and did the bottom half of it. it was really good.
the day was good, i could go on and on but i won't. we were down early in order to conserve our legs for tomorrow. the forecast is calling for "more than 50cms" by tomorrow afternoon...
i'm going to pick up a drum kit. roth and i bought ourselves a christmas present.

i'm soaked to the bone. it is a cruel joke that the weather plays every day. snowing like mad and then raining even harder. the morning though, the morning...
wait, what about last night? Hot hot heat played a short set, at a crappy bar sponsored by a tabacco company. it was just insane, i shot a roll of colour and a roll of black and white and wished it went on way longer. bradley played too, and by the time i got home it was 2AM, snowing, and i couldn't get to bed fast enough to be ready for this morning. there are guests in my house that get up at 6AM so i got a whole 4 hours of sleep.
but all that didn't matter, there was tons of new snow and i had an amazing day plowing through deep elephant snot.(TJ, Roth, HK, Sayar, Mike Scott, Dez.) then it got warm. we shot on a weird transition to on-it's-end picnic table. but as the snow became rain, my electronics started to get pissed off and we called it. still, i think i got a couple things. we'll see. the ride down was miserable.
so now i'm home, and i'm drenched, and it's pouring down rain. can't wait for tomorrow...
one new shot up today.

i love working. today i shot HK and fox up the hill. both of them got a shot on a day that looked like absolute shite from the valley. it makes me so stoked to be working with people who love to snowboard.
It's a little cooler out today and the forecast looks ok. we need a buttload of snow, so it looks like i will be travelling soon.
Jeff Baker is the photo editor at Snowboarder Magazine. He is a good soul and I call him a friend. He just sent me the nicest note ever, wishing me luck with Transworld, being sad that I won't be submitting to Snowboarder. It was sentimental, and for a guy that doesn't really hang out in sentimentaltown too much, it was touching. thanx dude. That's why our industry is cool, when you can walk away from a company and they wish you no ill will. I f more people could step above competition and see us all as part of a whole instead of greedy little individuals, i think we'd all be better off. i will now get down from behind my pulpit and sit down.

did you miss me yesterday?
i just spent the last two days in a classroom. day one: avy course, day two: first aid. it started snowing while we were doing transceiver searches in a gravel pit, and it's been coming down bit by bit for the last two days. the weekend forecast is amazing, if it can stay cold enough...
thanks to Sessions I now have my first ever Gore Tex jacket. Big thank you's to Andrew, Joel and Christian. I know it was a group effort.
2:52PM. Fucking Puking.
6:45PM. Still dumping. Cars in the ditch, winter wonderland.

i like girls
hey, can you smell that? smells like a storm is brewing...
the shot for the day is a photo of HK banging drums. Tj took it the other night. i'm hiding in there too.
Saturday, December 07, 2002
last night was fun. J brown brought a bunch of instruments to the Crab Shack (ya jo jo) and had a kinda open stage jam sorta thing. there weren't enough instruments and the keyboard didn't work, but it was still fun. Calder and I did 45 minutes of three chord basics. i can't keep up to Jason though, he's in a different place. still, so fun. and then it turned into pure random madness. hightlights include HK learning to play drums for an audience, with a maniacal grin that made him look like the muppet animal, and blue montgomery and j brown trading duties on drums and guitar. good clean fun.
shredding was fun today. picked up roth, young roth, and the gift and headed up. Adam was at the bottom waiting for someone who never showed up, so we got to take a couple runs. Foxy joined us too. saw Pat A, up for the Ride meetings, still owning shit, and a broad cast of characters. by one it was crowded and we came down. snowboarding on a strip of manmade snow is still more fun than not snowboarding at all.
in honor of my Pat A sighting today, i've uploaded a shot of him.

my head hurts today. not so bad that i'm flat on my back, just enough to be there all the time and annoy me like slightly squeaky ceiling fan.
for the first time in a long time, the long term weather forecast is promising. it looks like all next week is going to be snowy. not really super-dump, road closed, dance in the streets snowy. but enough to get me thinking that we might actually get a winter after all. the promise of snow is enough for now. the idea of a storm is a long lost friend, in a faraway country, coming home for the holidays. whoa, i'm starting to lose it...
i just listened to Todd Schlosser's new band. Holy fuck. Holy fucking fuck...that boy's got some lungs.

i drove to the city today, with a load of my brothers furniture and whatnot. he's moving to North Van. i went downtown and picked up some photos from the lab, and the strangest thing happened. small bits of water started falling out of the sky and making everything wet. someone on the sidewalk mumbled under their breath "fuggin' raining..." rain. this could mean snow at home. by squamish my hopes were dashed as it was dry and there was as much blue as cloud in the sky. maybe tonight.
2 new shots up tonight. some black and white from the calgary trip.
if i sent you phots tonight and they were HUGE, sorry. i had some sizing issues. if you want some nice, normal, manageable files, hit me up and i'll send them to you...

monday night dinner parties are one of the few things keeping me from calling kevorkian. remember that song you used to sing in kindergarten?"rain rain, go away, come again some other day..." Is there an opposite to that song? i think it is " some other day" today...
one new photo up this afternoon.
please ullr, i'll do whatever you want, jus gimme a little love. y'know, the white kind.

well the fog never really lifted today so i didn't go up the mountain. had lunch with my brother instead. his photos from New Zealand are impressive and it makes me want to be a surfer, kinda. i guess it more has lit the little travel fire in me. i think it's time to go chase snow in Europe...

Hooray for shredding. Finally went up the mountain today. Went to meet Hache Kaye but never did. Went up with Roth, met up with TRZA on the chair on the way up. the conditions are abysmal but it was still so fun to slide around. Roth's knee is strong after surgery and Trev pulls a mean Mute rocket off a ten inch mogul.
Today my Forum contract ends and my new job with Transworld begins. Thanx Forum. It was really, really fun. Thanx Transworld, I can't wait to be a big part of your magazine. So if ya don't know, now ya know...
2 new shots up today...
Oh ya, Wil Mimnaugh played the fuck out of a couple of guitars last night. watching him you get the distinct feeling that you are in the presence of greatness. i do miss the old shows without the drummer though. it felt like he was more sponataneous. oh well. still the best free show goin'
