Yesterday, I finally got to strap on my board for the first time this season! I woke up to about 5cms of snow.. nothing much, but just enough wind to create some sketchy driving conditions between London and Cambridge. Then it was smooth sailing until Horseshoe.
Did a few runs before running into BouncingSoul and Powjunkie. Met up with Haster and his bro for a few runs before I left. Fun times. For our last run, bunch of us jumped the Closed runs rope and hit the area where they had been making snow all day. It was pretty sweet!! Not many times on the EC can I say that my feet dissapeared in the man made pow! great way to end the day, fabulous first day riding!!!!!
When I got home, after it taking me an hour and a half to drive 37km, there was almost 20cms of snow. I jumped in the shower, changed and headed out to my staff party.. where they had an informal poll going on my showing up (Carrie won't make it, roads are too bad vs Carrie'll call in sick and ride tomorrow). When I got home, there was just about a foot of snow. It took my housemate and I an hour to clear the driveway.
This morning, I woke up and turned on the radio. Police were urging people not to leave their housed. We were up to 70cms of snow in some places. They closed the schools for the first time in 30 years... the entire city is pretty much closed. We went from no snow 2 days ago, until almost 3 feet right now! and now the blue skies are shining through. I shovelled for over an hour this morning, and will have to again if I want to go anywhere.
It's been a great 2 days, and I have been smiling non stop at the snow, the baording.. ahhh it's been great! my only concern is the +8C temps we'Re getting on sunday :(
Things I decided since yesterday
1- 37Kms in an hour and a half is pure torture. Thanks to the D&G podcasts, at least I could laugh for most of that time.
2-Going to the gym was the best idea I have ever had.. no pain in my legs, abs, nothing... and my shoulder and ankle held up!!!
3- Trail mix is the best snack ever
4- Riding closed runs at Horseshoe gets you a don't do that again, nothing more. I'll have to try this more often.
5- Shovelling is a crazy workout! My arms are feeling it.. but in a good way!
6- Snow= one giddy Carrie, I haven't stopped smilling all day!!!
7- I can still ride switch!! just not an entire run like last year... have to build that up again... and I need to work on my abs more, I could not ollie for the life of me (well i tiny bit, but nothing impressive)
8- drivng 3 hours for snowboarding is totally worth it, no matter how many people call me crazy!
