	Avalanche course no way around it. avalanche course then, buy a beacon, probe and METAL shovel the plastic one don't go thru shit. once you have those things find some people who have more backcountry experance then you, no a week is not experance. we are human and we can't remember every thing we had been shown in a course. I learn more each time a re-do my certs and when i start someting new to do with avalanches i learn even more. books will teach you the rules, but the field will teach you the exceptions. oh and a big kicker will take you around 5 hours of building. but yeah once you got the course and gear out the way find some people who you can go out with and learn from. snow craft takes years you can't get it over night. no it's not a fcking powder board Re: 172**
