CYSTIC FIBROSIS (CF): a genetic disease
affecting most organs in the body, especially the respiratory system and the digestive system, which is caused by a defect in a single gene. It is the most common genetic disease in Caucasions.

FACTS ABOUT CF
-There are 3300 people in Canada with CF
-Approximately 80% of people are diagnosed before the age of 6
-In 2002 the Median age of survival was 35 years old
-Researchers have identified over 1000 mutations of the gene
-Over 50% of people with CF are hospitalized at least 2/year for 10-14 days per admission
The oldest person know with CF is 82 years old
-There are over 100 CF centers nation wide.
