Anyone who got to ride whistler on opening day was hoping for 50cm fresh but the reality of it was barely a 50cm base. But first day snowboarding of the season so who cares! We made it as epic possible. See how the Westbeach dudes rolled on opening day. Matt Belzile, Jody Wachniak, Robjn Taylor and all of our friends!

Snowboard.com News: Spain Story

Spain Story
Written by Clayton Larsen

Robjn Taylor is gonna hate me for starting the story like this because every snowboard trip story does, but… When I was first told about a trip to Spain my first reaction, and I think it’s shared by many, was “ there’s places to ride in Spain?”. So not really knowing what to expect I headed off with, Brendan Keenan, Andrew Geeves, Ryan Tiene, Chris Rasman, John Scarth documenting it photographically and Gerhard Gross organizing and writing the story for Snowboard Canada. After a long flight with many delays, a game of rental van tetras with our bags, a long drive on the skinniest and most windy road where rules didn’t seem to apply, we arrived in Baqueria Beret. I was quick to realize two things; there were massive resorts to ride and beer was 45 euro cents a can! We met up with the Spain DC team manager Hugo Morales and an Argentinean filmer Martin and they gave us a tour of the resort. They were having a bad snow year so we couldn’t take full advantage for the vast terrain but the riders got creative and wewere able to get some great stuff. We were about to leave Spain and go to Andorra in search of snow when the manager of the local bar, Pacha’s, said they were going to get a lot of snow over night. To be honest I didn’t believe him but sure enough when we woke up it was dumping, so we hit the streets. We were able to ride through the streets of the village we stayed in, where some buildings dated back to the 1700’s. After about two weeks of traveling and riding the resorts, we were happy with the amount of footage and photos we had compiled, so we headed to Barcelona. We spent a couple days there skating some famous spots and partying like the loud obnoxious tourists we were. Spaghette!

one of our connections was in Frankfurt where they have a bio dome and grow giant grass… and they sell beer in there too

Frankfurt Airport… when in Germany

The village we stayed in before it snowed

The church in the village

Tiene and Rasman hanging at the damn

All we ate were these pig legs… one at each meal

After filling up on pig leg we checked out the local bar were things don’t really get going till about 5am… seriously

Tiene is just stoked to be here man

Friday the 15th marked the beginning of the first annual Westbeach Chinese Downhill and an effort to reconnect with the spirit of shredding often lost in the myriad of publicly traded companies, profit margins and share-holder accountability that make up the current snowboarding landscape. Although all in the name of fun and beer drinking, a definite air of competitiveness was present amongst the 35 or so contestants vying for the title of fastest shred.

Notable attendees included, Shin Campos, Rube Goldberg, Kevin Sansalone, Jon Cartwright, Colin Adair, Ryan Tiene, Steph Just, Beau Bishop, Wiley Tesseo, Robjin Taylor and all the local shreds that made this event great. The rules were simple: first person to reach the Creekside Underground skatepark from the top of Million Dollar ridge and successfully finish a beer would win the affections of his peers and $500.

Weather? Dude it was epic...of course.

hock_robjn.jpg

Brian Hockenstein and Robjn Taylor. Check out the polar opposites of emotions.

In the end it was a mix of veterans Kevin “Snacksie-pants” Sansalone and Shin “Getsu” Campos racing spring-chickens John Caulfield and Anthony Weglan to the finish line. Their shred skills had brought them to the bottom in a possible record time of 4 minutes 53 seconds but the contest was ultimately decided by the beer chugging skills of Shin. Who says professional snowboarding doesn’t teach valuable life skills?

Perhaps the best part, and the intended effect, was the sense of camaraderie felt by everyone there. It was a great reason for people who are often segregated by work and busy winter schedules to come together and snowboard for the sake of snowboarding. Thanks Westbeach, see you next year.

So it snowed before January my sources were wrong which is a good thing. If it didn't snow soon Taylor was going to flip out. Oooh wait she already did. The bad news is the snow is melting and the good news is it is suppose to snow again this weekend so I heard. I was watching the news this morning and it is suppose to snow and be cold enough to stick around. We will have to see on that one.

Not much to read about today because it is back to reality and the hell places called school and work. If I had to choose between the two I would for sure choose school.
So if u got somethin to say leave a message.

I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car
he's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
the other on my heart
i look around, turn the radio down
he says baby is something wrong?
i say nothing i was just thinking how we don't have a song
and he says...

CHORUS
our song is the slamming screen door,
sneakin' out late, tapping on your window
when you're on the phone and you talk real slow
cause it's late and your mama don't know
our song is the way you laugh
the first date "man, i didn't kiss her, but i should have"
and when i got home...before i said amen
asking god if he could play it again

Yeah yeah, i know the name makes no sense, i thought it sounded catchy! Well people its officially come to an end. the 2006-2007 season has come to an end. This has probably been the most eventful season of my life. Ive now finished my 9th season of snowboarding, and I hate to say it, but for a kid who has been riding as long as me, I suck! I just now got 540s. At the beginning of the season I couldnt even 360. That may have been due to bad gear but who knows. I think a small recap is in need. Half way through the season on a beutiful day at Cypress Mountain, my Rossignol Sly gets destroyed by a screw sticking out of a box. I get that board replaced by a brand spanking new 2007 Forum Youngblood! My season, and my freestyle ability, was finally able to truly begin. Never before had I been able to have a park experience quite like it! By the time I had gotten used to the new board, I was pulling 3s like a new born craps itself. I also received a new set of boots this season, Thirtytwo Lashed, which at first caused some issues but have now become a dream! And just recently, last weekend, I finally received my new bindings. After much debate I decided on Rome 390s! I spent all sunday rippin on em and they feel great! But what this post was really about was to sum up my last two weekends of the season, so here goes

About a month ago now I guess my friend from Buffalo, New York, was here for a week. I was able to meet up with him for two days on Whistler and that was the day I pulled my first 720, landed it too, though Im not going to lie, the whole thing was a total mistake, I only wanted to do a 540, but overrotated and decided to pull it around for a 7, sloppy landing too.

Last weekend may have been one of the best all season! Spending Saturday with Ryan, MLJ, and Midge we decided to build a kicker in 7th Heaven which sadly didnt go over as well as we had hoped. We spent that afternoon sessioning park and it was ok. Sunday was really where it was at. I basically had a personal photo shoot to myself all day. I had a friend of mine follow me around with my SLR cam. We shot over 500+ picture on the weekend, I put a few of them up her on sb.com. I also used the Sunday to break in my new 390s. Highlights of the day were definately pulling some slow spun 3s on the tables and a 3 on the small step up, which is my current display pic here on sb.com. Also deciding that going for a 720 on the step up was a good idea. I had three attempts and didnt land one. Spun the 720 2 out of 3 times but never landed one. The first time lead to a huge humiliation in front of Robjn Taylor the crapneto rider.

Im glad to have finished this season with only minor bruises and one recuring rugby injury. Anyway, that sums up my season. i will hopefully be doing a 3 day camp with Whistler Valley Snowboard Club in June or July at one of the camps at the Blackcomb Glacier. have a good summer and hope you all had a great season

Peace!

Jared Braverman

Well, Sun Peaks was very fun, too bad Evan Taylor and I missed our first run at the You Look Good Comp. but other than that it was all around fun times. Twister, shredding and rap battles downstairs in the fart room after chili. Went to Mexico sunday after a good shred at Sun Peaks. It was f*cking awesome. Met some hotties from Minnesota and texas and alaska. Texans say Y'all and caynadaa wayy too much. Met some cool kids from North Van and went clubbing everynight. Never been so drunk for 10 days straight. Our dope ass waiter Sylvester was a pretty cool cat. He showed us his pictures of his Opium and Weed Farm, pretty crazy down there. Well i hate blogging and i dont know why im writing this. Peace

March 27, 2007

So I hear that the Down Lo comp to close out Mount Saint Louis' seaons was amazing.  I wouldn't know first hand due to being in the wrong spot at the wrong time with the right amount of booze in me the night before.  Seriously!  Fine believe what you want.  But you should also believe this, our home boy Kevin Scriver, yeah the same Kevin Scriver who won the Ontario finals of the Smith Grudge Match (www.smmithoptics.com) just won the Down Lo comp this past Sunday.  Word the effe up Mr. Scriver!  Many witnesses have told me Kev went ginormmous all day and was one of only a couple people to hit the GIANT channel gap ... and stomp it!  Word.  The winnings couldn't have come at a better time either; Kev and fellow Paint the Town Red rider Kyle Taylor are on their way out west to end the season off proper.  (Proper as in MC Hammer proper).  Sorry I missed the awesomeness .. safe trip and see ya when ya get back to Ontario guys.
Also, happy birthday to Jamie Corneal and Chance Morison!  bottles to the ground!

My Blog: Taco Bell
By: cetra70

After our church service, we had lunch at Taco Bell. I think I ate 4 tacos...2 soft, 2 crunchy...and they were good...Except that now I'm starting to regret it cuz my stomach is going berserk...but that might be because of the ice cream we bought at Jiffy Treet. Jiffy Treet has really good ice cream (slushies, etc, etc), so next time you pass by it, go try some...

After that, we went home and I went to the computer straight away...So here I am now, typing this...procrastinating...NOT GOOD...bad habit! MUST BREAK!

Well, you can't blame me for not wanting to learn all 42 presidents...but I've had some progress: I mememorized the first 8 in one minute :D Woot!

Okay, gotta get back to studying the presidents...cya!

My list of memorized presidents:

1) George Washington

Holly sh*t.  That pretty much sums up everything that happened on the Paint the Town Red Ottawa Road trip.  The crew, consisting of riders Trevor Jennings, Kyle Taylor, Kevin Scriver, Will Johnson, Alex Beebe, Tyler Ashbee, Jamie Corneal, Brock Mills photographer Rhys Hastings, film maker Adam Bialo and myself, Stuart Britton all meet up on Thursday night in the middle of a wicked snow storm and hit the extra slippery highway in Oshawa to begin our road trip to Ottawa.  (Actually we stayed in Gatineau but whatever). Our drive which would usually take 3 hours turned into a 5 hour journey due to the brutal driving conditions.  We rolled in at 3am and crashed.  Up on Friday at 730 to get some McDs breakfast and start scopping out some urban spots in downtown Ottawa.  With a bit of luck and some local directions we were able to find some amazing rails, bomb drops and some unusual urban landscape to destroy...and I do mean destroy!  The crew ripped the hell out of everything they touched pretty much all weekend.  After a long day of slaying everything we went and grabbed some dirty food, cheap beer and headed back to the hotel rooms for some epic Guitar Hero!  Not only can these guys shred they can rock the fak out!  EPIC!!!  Wall rides in the hotel were another high light of the night as well.  After a good night of chillin out we were back at it on Sat morning.  We ended up going to an amazing location and breaking up into smaller groups to get more done.  And the plan worked out great.  Some peeps hit the rails, some wall rides, some bomb drop and another a giant wall slash!  Ottawa was killed again...two murders in two days.  Sat night consisted of Le Pigale... I wont even get into it cause I could write an entire novel on just that Cabaret!  DAMN fine and out of control.  Also downtown Ottawa was a hot spot Sat night.  Sunday a few of the riders (Alex Beebe, Will Johnson, Tyler Ashbee) stuck around with photographer Rhys Hastings to shoot some more film and stills while the rest of us nursed hangovers and ate a great breakfast and headed back home.  Rhys got daring and almost died for his efforts on some gnar rock gap drop...but he's ok people...the back drop to flat couldn't slow him down.  All and all...Ottawa was a dope trip filled with amazing riding, crazy parties, good friends and a lot of fun and laughter.  Check back to Stub_Films profile for video and some photos of the trip to be posted soon.  Also make sure you check out photolishus' profile and www.photolishus.com for amazing photos shot by Rhys Hastings from this road trip and much more.
