Recently I have been trying to figure out why God put me on this forsaken planet. Reason being, a Police department came to me and offered me a job. Previously to this, I was going to start school in May to follow my long roots and become a Bicycle Guru. Sometimes you get so caught up in "life" that you forget what matters most to you and makes you happy.

Last night I put in a movie called "Roam." It is a sequel to the movie "The Collective." It is a mountain biking film with Pros doing insane stunts and riding fast singletrack and even Ryan Leech on his Trials bike. The great thing about these movies is that they give me an adrenaline rush right there on the couch. And even though these riders are jumping HUGE road gaps and stunts, I still find a way to relax and fall asleep. I may be sick in the head, or I may just find comfort in acts of defying death and physics. I don't know.

Before I started to snooze, I was watching this wicked fast single track section and realized my love for mountain biking. I sometimes look at what I have invested in my arsenal of bicycles and think, "I could have like 2 motorcycles with all this." Sadly its true. But last night it dawned on me, as it does from time to time. I love riding motorcycles. They're so free, man and machine. But a bicycle takes it that much further. Many people Say, "its not about the Destination, but about the Journey." When you finish the journey and look back and think, I did that all myself. No engine, no gasoline, just me, my bike and a burrito or two. You go so much deeper on a mountain bike than on a motorcycle. Your breathing as it sets the pace. Heartrate pounding in your ears as you make your way up ascents that would scare sherpas. The Rush when you let go of the bars to trick as you fly over gorge's. The exhilaration when you crest a mountain to watch the sun settle into the horizon for its slumber. All this under your own power. You, two pedals, a chain, some gears, maybe suspension and a frame.  This is when the Spritual aspect comes into effect that puts it way ahead of throttle twisting. It's surreal when you look at the terrain you just tackled and you get an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment.

Riding is not just subject to us in the Northern hemisphere either. I have seen many films where riders are in 3rd world countries. The faces of the locals light up, as well as the riders, in a way of euphoria that words cannot describe. Bicycles are a Culture and Language of their own, spoken through out the world without saying a word. One day I will ride my way across the globe. Bringing inspiring smiles to children and adults alike in far away lands and my own town of residence. Then I will have a journey of my own to tell. This.........all this, is what makes me happy.

Paint the Town Red crew along with Stub Films (www.stubfilms.com) and Kontakt Filmproductions would like to Congratulate Jamie Corneal on a stellar performance at the Barn Shack Rail Attack this past Saturday.  Jamie put down on the 40 ft I beam and walked away with 1st place prize money, and some sweet stunts on film too.  Cory Gallon was riding amazing as he usually does and he was award the 'Mufff' best trick and some sweet cash.   P.S.  I think Cory may be one of my fav riders to watch.  We would also like to congratulate Jamie on being one hell of a dancer at the after party.  Dancing on a bar with 5 ladies with your pants down past your ass is true talent and a pretty sight for all.  Janelle Leclair held it down while still in Ontario on a break from world travel.  Janelle was not only one of few ladies' to make it too the end of the beam but she did it with pure steeze and threw it down better then a lot of individuals that were competing.  Big ups J-Nizzle.

She has been thugged out since she was a girl scout.  If she even went to girls scouts cause she was soo raw!  J-nizzle, aka Janelle Leclair, our very own shred-tacular lady, wearing baggy pants and rocking a wide stance, busted some sick, steezalicious stunts this past sat at Big White during the Rad Galz comp.  Janelle was dope on the scene all day, as she is everyday, and deservingly won herself a 2nd place finish.  I don't know if getting podium positions in comps is gangsta or not, but we will say it is!

Lil bit'o news -

As you may know, this past weekend was the Telus Triple Challenge at Blue Mountain (www.bluemountain.ca) in Collingwood, ON.  And as usual the event was sick.  Lots of stunts were thrown down, lots of dance steps were learned and improved and in a lot of case made a mockery off...but it's all good, it's about the fun not if you look like a drunk elephant on the dance floor or not.  Opps...got off topic there.  Our girl Danielle Brown who has been killin' the comp series this season got herself a 2nd place finish in Ladies' Slope Style.  High fives and ass smacks all around for another good show D.  Jamie Corneal rode sick again in the Mens division and took home a 5th place overall placing.  Jamie loves comps.  Trevor Jennings is a crazy man.  That's it.  Nothing to do with anything in this entire blog.  Just he's crazy.  Oh wait, it does have something to do with it, Trev is crazy cause during practice for the big air on Sat he OVER SHOT the jump and landed alsmost flat.  In case you don't know, THAT'S F*CKIN' HUGE!  Trev unfortunately suffered a brusied ankle for his craziness but he's back riding and hitting the rails this week.  Just another piece of protective gear that Trev may have to strap on his body before he rides. He is looking more and more like a bionic man when he shreds then ever before!

I would like to be the first to announce that Tyler Ashbee is now riding for Scotties' (www.iridescotties.com) will be riding all new Ride boards, boots and binding combined with Section (www.section.com) outterwear.  Congrats Tyler.

Stay tuned party people...teaser and web site coming soon.....

Our boy Dan House and a couple friends were out killin' it this past weekend.  The boys went out and hit June Lake handrail, which got abused in a good way with out any interuptions except the odd passerby that wanted to check out some stunts, or some destruction on the brutal cheese gratter stairs.  Either way, those who did pass by got  to see a handrail get torn up!  Dan House ended up chipping a bone in his hand while shreddin' but that didnt stop him from riding all weekend.  The boys also hit up Donner Pass for some sweet cliff, booter and powder face shot action.  Everyone loves face shots right?  don't try to hide it!  We know you do.  Donner Pass was off the chains, even though the guys had to deal with yuppie ski school instructors chirppin' them from the road as they drove they fancy cars to their fancy, preppy jobs.  Aren't yuppies suppose to just talk ish behind people's back and not say anything to their face?  either way, yuppies suck.  Check out some of the footage at Stub_Films profile or click here to short cut your way to greatness!
Enjoy!

Hey all, and welcome to another edition of the Daily Barns.  This past weekend was the Snowboard.com "Screw Mother Nature, We're Getting shi*ttered" meet at Blue Mountain in Collingwood Ontario and let me tell you, after this meet we might want to be thanking mother nature rather than telling her to sod off (on account of the complete lack of visible sod anywhere unlike we expected when this meet was originally planned).  This was the first meet for me personally where I got to shred the gnar with my fellow ECers and it was a great weekend of progression, laughs, pretzels, skanky girls (not in our crew), riding without lift passes and poaching freshies.

The road trip started for me when I picked up the rest of the Ottawa crew who were riding the Bangbus to Blue (No one is really sure how it came to be known as the Bangbus, but this became its official name).  Once Chris (AddictiveEscape), Jeremy (Mr. King), Brianna (atomicsnowqueen), myself, food, booze and snowboarding gear were loaded into the bus, it was time to face the white out conditions on the long drive to Blue.

The drive took about 7 hours total (including a stop at Wendy's to steal trays for beerbogganing and a few pee breaks).  Upon our arrival in Collingwood, it took us a while to find the right chalet, "Chef" (crasiestwy) came through for us, he arrived just minutes after we did and immediately knew where to go so he let us in.  Once we were settled, the craziness began with a jump building party.  Most of the night was spent in the parking lot in front of the chalet drinking beer and doing acid drops (the snowboarding kind, not the small paper square kind) from the second floor balcony.  We developed a bit of a fan base including the skanky girls from the chalet next door; they saw us building the landing and asked us if we were planning on jumping from the balcony.  We call them skanky girls because with a little more convincing, they probably would have taken their clothes off to watch us do acid drops; however no one from our chalet seemed particularly interested in that.  Within an hour, most of the neighbourhood was outside their chalets watching the show with iPods blasting from car stereos and crazy shred dogs doing their crazy thing, it was a good night.

Once we got tired of jumping, we re-appropriated some DVD cables from one of the other chalets (our chalet had a DVD player without cables for some reason), and proceeded to chill out watching shred videos and eating pretzels.  Chris eventually passed out on the couch so the pretzels then became projectiles to try to wake him up.  The floor was littered with pretzels, so the next morning while walking around in the living room area, the floor seemed a little crunchier than usual.  The phrase "f**king pretzels" was uttered on a number of occasions.

Saturday was a day of riding.  In hopes of not having to buy lift tickets, we parked the cars at the top of Blue and rode down from there.  The conditions were great, I suffered from toe drag on the first run however (this is what happens when you angulate too aggressively) and did at least one complete flip, dragged my backside, got up and rode it out to hoots, hollers and laughs from the rest of the crew.  There was much progression on this day too, by the end of it we had the rookies cutting lines in the trees, dropping cliffs and trying terrain park features.  All this without buying a single lift pass and there were nine of us riding together that day, this feat still amazes me (thank you to lax standard liftie operating procedures).  Once we were done riding for the day, it was time to head back and plan the festivities for the night.  This included more front yard jibs, a bangbus jib (videos coming soon hopefully) and even more progression as the rookies all successfully executed trash can bonks.  As was the case the previous night, our adoring fan club was there to watch the show and drink their trashy asses silly.

The final day started a little later than the previous.  We were all pretty tired and sore for the previous day's riding.  There was still one thing left to do however; ride down the Orchard.  Since it had been snowing on and off all weekend, and nobody rides the Orchard on account of there not being any lift access, we decided that we would go poach some freshies on Sunday morning.  This required some pentagon planning and military like precision.  The plan was to park one car at the bottom of the Orchard, pile everyone else into the other two cars to shuttle them up.  After the run, the drivers of the other two cars would be shuttled up in the car that was left behind to come pick up the rest of the crew.  So off we went, Carrie (Cazza21) parked her car in the P1a lot, and she jumped in the Bangbus for the drive up the mountain.  We parked on a dead end street, skated back to the mountain road, then stealthily snuck into the forest.  Once out of eye sight of the road, we started hearing the distinctive sounds of snowmobiles.  Thinking it was the Blue Mountain Gestapo, we hid in the trees hoping they wouldn't notice our tracks.  Once we were confident that we hadn't been pinched, the hike to the orchard began.  It was totally worth the effort, we arrived at the top to untracked runs; freshies are so beautiful.  Sean (powjunkie) took the lead followed by Jeremy, Chris, then the girls followed by Adam.  I was bringing up the rear to make sure everyone made it down since at least half our party had never ridden fresh powder before.  I'll tell you, there's nothing quite like riding fresh untracked snow.  Even if it's in Ontario and it's on top of a thin layer of surface melt; it's a total Zen experience.  After getting my fill of nose presses and spraying the trees on turns, we gathered up at P1a and decided that we should end on a high note.  We packed up our gear and made our way out of Blue Mountain to finally take our separate ways home.

This was easily the best Snowboard.com meet I've ever been on which gives me high hopes for Telus this coming April.  A special thanks to the entire crew for being the super chill individuals that they are and making the weekend as fun as it was.  Here are a few things to remember from this weekend:

  • It IS possible to ride for free even with a large group of riders.

  • Skanky trailer trash girls are willing to take their clothes off to see people do seemingly life threatening stunts; just take inventory and make sure that you actually WANT them to do this before you make the suggestion however, it sometimes sounds like a better idea than it actually is.

  • If you don't have cables to watch DVDs in your chalet, "borrow" them from another chalet.  On a related note, I am still in possession of said cables, I'm willing to make a trade; show me what you got.

  • I think all the ice cubes I've flushed down the toilet have finally started paying off.  I think mother nature loves us now (at least until this weekend, +8 degrees, aye fawk off).

Anyway, I hope it won't be long before I get the chance to shred with this group again, amongst the finest in the East Coast.  I know Carrie is going to Telus and I'm counting down the days until then.  So  until next time, keep your browsers plugged into YouTube, you must might see us jumping off balconies (those skanky girls promised).  Until next time...

Keep Shreddin' the GNAR!
J.

Still Bastards!

Just incase you wanted to know:

Fall 2007 is slated to be a big year for long time and new Wildcats fans alike. Almost a decade since the release of “Lil’ Bastards” Wildcats and IS Design have teamed up to present “Still Bastards” the sequel to the video that kick started the Wildcat legacy.

Rumors of a sequel were leaked late 2006 to numerous magazines and websites around the world. To know surprise these rumors were met by extremely positive feedback proving snowboarding may just be getting a little board with the “cute and cuddly snowboard films” that have become the norm. Still Bastards is ready to be shake things up with its unique brand of un-classy, chaotic, high energy and most likely offensive film style.

You can believe this highly anticipated sequel will be crammed packed full of late night antics including but not limited to: extreme radness, excessive drinking, the damaging of public property, insults directed towards innocent people, horribly good dancing, the invasion of personal space, smart ass remarks, drunken mumbling, terrible rapping, beautiful women (hopefully) and an overall talent for poor decision making. All this action will of course be peppered with hotshot stunts performed by a world-class cast of snowboard mega stars and the up and comers eager to carry the torch.

In keeping with the cult classic “Lil’ Bastards, we’ll be exposing viewers to up close and personal rider video parts as well as giving them an all access pass to exclusive behind the scenes footage contributed by the riders themselves.

Still Bastards will follow the same formula as Lil’ Bastards and remain a rider driven movie with Devun Walsh and JF Pelchat at the helm. This project will primarily be filmed in digi with some 16mm film and have a running time of 20-30 minutes. There will be magazine ads, articles and web sites creating awareness for Still Bastards throughout the year. In addition to the year-end DVD we plan to turnout multiple teasers posted on various websites promoting the project throughout the season leading up to the films September 2007 release.

The eagerly anticipated Think Thank Patchwork Patterns premier took place in
Seattle, WA last week not in the usual club, but at evo, a local shop catering to
fashion heads, snowboarders and skiers.

I was assigned to work as a "bouncer" with fellow tough-looking guy Tre Dauenhauer
(sound it out--it's fun!) checking IDs as people were walking in. At first there
was a small line and then the line suddenly wrapped around the corner of a
building next door. The people in line were mostly patient, but excited to get in.
For a local snowboard film studio this was a huge turn-out. I saw so many
different types of IDs from all over the States and Canada. One kid tried to bribe
me. I didn't take the money. In addition to looking at IDs I had to put Tyvek
drink bracelets on everyone before they went in. People were stoked for the free
beer. Always a crowd will assemble for free alcohol, oh, and a great movie.

The temperature was dropping as we stood outside checking people in and selling
tickets. Meanwhile, the temp was heating up inside. The crowd's attention was
captivated by a one and two man band called Rawbeats. Although I didn't see this
first hand because I was outside checking IDs I learned that the two drummers
positioned themselves facing each other and both of them exchanged fire with the
bass beat in the background. Later just one of the members drummed to favorite pop
hits such as Kanye's Jesus Walks. I felt an energy in the crowd that they might
bust out dancing at any moment, but sadly no rave ensued, however one could have.
I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for more Rawbeats appearances.

Patchwork Patterns turned out to be a crowd favorite with cheers rising from the
audience when their favorite riders appeared or stunts of amazement were
performed. The Seattle flavor mixed into the backdrop of the movie from the
opening Aurora Bridge (aka Jumper's Bridge) credits to Mt. Baker footage. The Northwest appeal was all over the film. Perhaps my favorite sight of the night was a huge orange and white traffic cone made out of construction paper and spraypaint that represented a
common theme throughout the entire movie and the party.

If it wasn't enough to have a large-scale movie premier in our place Spacecraft
also put together an exhibit of their infamous sticker sheets, artwork, and
photography. As usual, gallery on-lookers loved the Spacecraft flare and by the
end of the night I had one of the stickers on my shirt courtesy of Erich Kunz (it
was his sticker...he's into shameless self-promotion). The elusive Spacecraft
bunny made an appearance which could have been a bad thing considering the amount
of brew and ensuing uninhibited behavior. Nothing happened that endangered the
bunny as far as I could tell and he/she left in once piece--no stolen bunny heads
that night fortunately.

The last time I saw that many people at evo was the grand opening party we did
with Talib Kweli. The turn out incredible and people left with party favors. Lib
Tech kicked down a pair of N.A.S as well as non-N.A.S. After the movie people
trickled out with smiles on their faces and a new found desire for fresh air and
the cool breezes of a Seattle fall. One guy tried to pry open our Red Bull cooler
to swipe some free energy, but I quickly thwarted his plans. The 6 kegs of beer
and drink bracelets eventually ran out and with that about 70% of the crowd went
with it. I left around 1 A.M. with the place still buzzing with energy and
impromptu breakdance sessions.

My voice was gone and throat was killing me. No doubt I was getting sick as I usually do with the changing of the seasons. However, what comforted me was the site of stoked guests in our store and the comraderie that comes with pulling off the improbable.

Val Thorens

My Blog: New Here
By: BadGirl13

So I found this site the other day and so far it's okay.  I'm not real impressed with what I see, but when you're bored with the mundane shi*t we call our everyday lives, this really wouldn't seem that interesting would it?  I haven't seen anything real eye catching yet, but I'll hang for a bit and see what I can find.  I'd really like to see a boarder who knows what they're talking about.  I really don't get off on people saying they've done this and this and this and you can totally tell by the way they are talking that they're full of shi*t.  Now the people that do extreme winter sports really catch my attention.  About the only thing extreme I did this winter was slide off a cliff with my sled and fall down the embankment into the frozen river below.  The sled is a little ruined, but it's nothing I can't handle.  The best places I have found for sledding are Fernand, and Look Out.  The boarders at Look Out are awesome.  I've some pretty sick shi*t up that mountain, and by this I mean amazing stunts, and killer air!
Hope to meet some cool people here!

Life takes some interesting twist and turns, especially when you follow your dreams....

Never in a million years would I have thought these snowboard stunts would land a show on the Discovery Channel, but alas everything happens for a reason.

I started trying to come up with these alternative snowboard stunts as straight up publicity stunts, and they took on a life of their own.

Tuesday, March 7th at 10:30 PM EST on the Discovery Channel the latest stunt will be unveiled ironically on the cheesiest titled show EVER---"STUNT JUNKIES" (It reairs a bunch like every Discovery Channel Show so if you miss it check their website).

We shot it in December in Keystone, and I really wasn't sure if it would work, as well as having injury premonitions. All in all, the bros and I had a great time getting things done despite the stress of 24 people from Hollywood following your every move in -30 weather. To add to the stress, I found out they would air the show regardless of wether I pulled it off- nothing like looking like a failure in front of millions of people.

I almost forgot to mention, to really bump the stress up, besides having to worry about falling 22 ft to ice if I did a normal halfpipe air, was the fact that I had to sign a contract saying that I would pay the Discovery Channel 50,000 (NO JOKE) if I backed out for no good reason.

I am nervous how they will make me look, they shot over 100 hours of tape for a half hour show and they interviewed my parents who are more than a handful in themselves... I get to see the show for the first time the same time the rest of the world does so I am sweating it.

Love the stunts or hate em, the show will be entertaining- watch it and feel free to laugh at me in EXTREMO WORLD of Hollywood... lol
