Prospect Snowboards isn't in every snowboarder's daily vocabulary and we don't have a problem with that. Being a non-corporate anti establishment board company, I guess you can say our marketing isn't awesome. Well... our commitment to making amazing snowboards is awesome. While we aren't interested in corporate subculture that comes with being a mainstream snowboard manufacturer it doesn't mean the industry isn't recognizing what makes Prospect rad.
The New Kid in Town Prospect as an up and coming board company is getting tons of leverage from people and industry publications because of our "by snowboarders for snowboarders" core culture. Coverage on Snowboard-review.com, by the SoCal Skate/Snow crew Concreteownage.com, and abc-of-snowboarding.com shows our company is winning the favor of core industry players. Among the the best programs going in snowboarding is Prospect's Design Co-op which lets snowboarders and businesses design their own custom boards. Our Co-op gives designers real access to getting their designs published without paying a fortune for an individual custom board. So far, the Co-op has made custom boards for Honey Goat Brewery and Adrenaline Power Sports for the 09/10 season.

09/10 Prospect Gear
Prospect's board construction is also a constantly evolving machine to assure our boards take the beating you dish. Our 2 year warranty proves there is no doubt about the quality of our boards, but innovation with rubber dampening, bamboo sidewalls, seamless edges, and re-engineered carbon placements gives Prospect decks a super smooth ride and consistent flex. Also, our "Tangent tech" reverse camber snowboard is an amazing park and powder deck. The real secret; our convex base. If you want a base that rides super smooth in the powder and doesn't catch on rails in the park you'll never be disappointed. If tech isn't your concern, our "Vitality" line carries the best of both worlds: Built for lighter riders and urban riding the Vitality line yells fun. Other projects coming out of the Prospect development lab demonstrate our values for hand crafted goods. Our newest Project, screen printed Logo T-shirts are made by hand will killer comfortable shirts and no 2 are exactly the same. And last, but no least, our newest product, Prospect Graphite Snowboard Wax makes you board lightning fast in all conditions. It works by conducting electricity to minimize friction with the surface of the snow. Absolutely genius and made with environmentally friendly ingredients.

This Years First Contest
So here is our newest announcement the 2009 Prospect "Tweaked Trick Competition"; Winners walk away with a Prospect Grab bag and an Interview with Prospect. Here is what you need to do; send us a short vid of your favorite trick tweaked out and oozing with rad style. Whether throwing a double cork, a Backside Boardslide, or a 180, it matters less than how insanely steezy you can make it look.
Online Orders
We are adding inventory as it comes in. All boards and soft goods are available for order and should be available for delivery. Check out our latest special!

When asked, if you had a job title, what would it be? he  had to stop and think it through for a moment. If I were to put a title on  myself as a job, I'd say pro snowboarder, life-time traveler.

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of interviewing legendary  shredder Romain de Marchi from his new home in far-off western Canada near  Vancouver. With kids in tow, tumbling around in and out of the Skype video frame,  Romain talked candidly about life as a father, how that's affected his  snowboarding and risk taking, as well as other controversial subject matter like  the Natasha Richardson tragic death and his bitter divorce with his old sponsor, Burton.

We also spoke about his new dedication to smaller  up-and-coming brands like his new sponsors Shred and Slytech Action Sports Protection with whom he recently signed (yes, having 2 little  tykes running around now, he straps on back protection wherever he goes to ride). And then of course, we covered that hot new  startup brand YES Snowboards you will want to hear about what he has to say about his new partners and why bigger is not always necessarily better.

His answers are not quite what you would expect from the rather  notorious party animal we have read about in the past. His contemplative nature  and deep insights paint a picture that is more Obi Wan Kenobi than a young reckless Anakin Skywalker.

I'm looking forward to share the insider look into  Romain, the pro snowboarder and life-time traveller's life and will let you know when and where it can be found in its entirety!

Later,
Stephan

Stephan  is a  writer for Slytech Action Sports Protection(http://SlytechProtection.com) and Shred Optics (http://ShredOptics.com). Besides an interest in winter sports, he spends most of his time in Maui, Hawaii where many athletes, including Romain, regularly come through to scratch their tropical itch. Ski or Snowboard Rentals – Whistler

Renting skis used to be a dreaded experience, long line ups for poorly maintained out of date equipment provided by ski bums who didn’t care. Changes have swept across this industry with new companies competing in every resort worldwide.

With airlines charging extra for ski baggage, the inconvenience of carrying heavy equipment and an increased environmental awareness the number of skiers renting equipment has risen.

If you look at ski technology and ski branding a two year old ski can often look outdated, therefore before you leave home do a quick calculation of “how many days a year do you ski?” multiplied by the cost of renting against the cost of new skis. The average cost of renting top end gear is around $50 CDN for two days. If you average 10 days per year that works out at $250 per year. New skis with bindings range from $500 to $1100.

Factor in the cost of tuning, inconvenience, baggage fees and your environmental consciences and renting comes out the winner.

My family decided to test this theory with a visit to Whistler in January, we looked online and booked with a company called Affinity Sports. (www.affinityrentals.com)

After breezing through the airport and traveling the sea to sky highway we checked into our hotel around 9pm. Surprisingly the rental shop was still open so despite our jet lag we headed in to pick up our gear. The staff greeted us on the way in the door and our reservation was ready. We tried on the boots and with skis hanging on every wall I picked out a new Pair of Volkl AC50. The binding was adjusted and the staff answered all our tourist questions while helping us feel welcome in Whistler. The kids tried snowboarding had to choose from a selection kids gear.

On the third day the weather moved in so we took a rest day, I dropped the skis back at the store and was surprised to learn I would be credited back the days I didn’t use. I then took advantage of the best reason to rent, trying different equipment. The trend in skis is to have more specialized equipment to suit the conditions so I changed for a K2 Coomba, a powder ski. Each time I dropped into see the staff at Affinity they accommodated my every request without hesitation. The equipment was tuned, it was the latest model and the service was excellent.

Two weeks later back at my desk I thought about the old rent vs. buy argument. I will be renting skis, snowboards and maybe even snow blades every time I go. The image of ski rentals is changing and being driven by companies like Affinity, I hope to go back to Whistler for the Olympics and will be renting everytime.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE – SEATTLE, WA (October 20, 2008)-The development of a new digital download player by Ally Distribution will change the way people consume action sports films.  By adding an entirely new dimension to the distribution model, this free download player has the potential to expand the size of the action sports film industry by making a larger selection of videos more accessible to more customers than ever before.  Called the ALLY digitalDOWNLOAD Store, the company wanted to create something that would instill positive change throughout the industry by helping the people behind these films.  Ally president Kelly Dole explains,  "We had become increasingly frustrated with the distribution side of the action sports film industry and decided we wanted to develop something that would help change things for the better."

The player is an embeddable widget (hosted by a third party), which allows retailer and industry websites alike to offer high-quality, digital downloads similar to iTunes.  The full-length downloadable films are compatible with all platforms and all portable media devices.  Rockies Super-Rep Mike "Gags" Gagliardi remarked, "There are no out-of-pocket costs, no set-up costs, no inventory, and it's free to sign up.  Any person visiting your website has the opportunity to download a full movie for a decent price. My shops just collect a check every month."

The Ally Player is now available to any retailer, online retailer, sponsor, or individual who would like to offer films for download from their website,  MySpace page, Facebook page, or similar platform.  The Player has 20 current, full-length ski and snowboard videos available for download with new titles being added each week.

Instead of building a single download website and attempting to drive all web traffic to their own site, Ally figured-out a win-win solution that will soon see hundreds or even thousands of micro-stores playing free teasers and selling video downloads.  The effects of this new distribution model can be expected to increase sales and exposure dramatically for the films, the athletes and the sponsors while reducing the carbon footprint for all involved.

Ally Video and Distribution is headquartered in Seattle, WA as a rider owned and operated entity, specializing in the distribution of action sports films.  For more information on our films, trailers, and latest developments visit www.allyvideo.com and to check out the new video player go to www.allyvideo.com/downloadsfordollars.

Hey Mate!! I was at the Oakley Style Wars in Fallscreek  Australia last week.. I had tons of Fun there! great parties at the Silver Ski Lodge with the whole Epic crew! I got to see my old friend PC from the Epic book.. runs in the gum trees, watch Travis’ movie.. I was hosting the contest for the web.. which was kind of funny.. I had tons of fun at the parties! we have seen some water spitting, beer fights, and even some wrestling at some point.. all in a fun party mood in the Aussie way. A that we improvised a trip to Torquay on the way down and went surfing, the water was freezing cold, but it was fun to catch a couple waves..

After the surfing, I joined the 2 Kristis ( Leskinen skier, and KT the Oakley marketing girl in Australia). We flew Sydney, ate some kanguru, did a couple PR stuff there with Alpha magazine and Sports Tonight Australia. I pet a koala and flew to New Zealand.. we spent the first day in Auckland for some more interviews for Sunrise (TV), Curl magazine, Sports Tonight NZ (TV), couple radio stations, and last but not least, we got on the Sports Cafe show hosted by some of the All Blacks (NZ national heroes).. they started asking us some tricky questions when a streaker jumped out of the public and shaked it right before my eyes on live national TV!! I was quite stoked to be there when that happened

anyways got to Queentsown the next day for the Oakley Chicks day out! which took place in Snowpark with another 50 girls.. the sun was shining and the park was super good, we shred together all day, i tryed to give them a couple tips, and we all rode back together to queenstown in a very loud busride. At night we all went for a bootie shake at the subculture bar where our friend RIA was DJing.. she killed it! she played tons of funk, which i love and we all danced all night.. and now I m tired and ready to go back to Euroland!

Thanks to Oakley and thanks tons to KT for organising this trip! thanks to all the girls for coming shredding with us, see you all next year!

The season kicked off this past weekend with the freestyle.ch in-city event in Zurich, Switzerland. For the snowboarding part of the action sports show, the biggest names in the game gathered on the lakeside of "Downtown Zurich“, including Burton shreds Mikkel Bang, Chris Sörman, Marko Grilc, Peetu Piiroinen, Wang Lei and last year's winner Stephan Maurer.

The Burton Euro Squad was busy all weekend throwing it down on the 37 meter tall ramp, the signing session marathons and the late night parties. And everybody scored at some point!

We will stick to talking about the official competition on snow here: Peetu Piiroinen opened his season like he ended the past one – on the podium! He only got beaten by Stephan Gimpl and Hampus Mosseson, and landed himself in the third spot with high scores for his Backside Rodeo 7 Tailgrab and Cab 1080.

Great atmosphere also at the LAAX booth on Saturday during the Burton Euro Team Signing Session – all dressed up nicely in the “10 years BEO” Birthday shirts. On duty for the Signing Session were Mikkel Bang, Marko Grilc, Chris Sörman, Stephan Maurer, Sina Candrian and Peetu Piiroinen.

11 year old snowboarder, Kyle Mack is added to the Infamous team?

British Columbia - September 8, 2008 - Infamous Management is proud to announce the signing of young snowboard phenom, Kyle Mack to a multi-year contract.

Kyle has been a force on the Burton Smalls since his introduction to the team in 2005. As a part of the Smalls crew he has shot, filmed and competed with some of the sports' most influential riders, photographers and videographers. Recently Kyle was featured in two back to back issues of Snowboarder Magazine, a feat for snowboarders twice his age. With his career on the upswing Kyle's parents sought honest representation for their son, and found it in Infamous Management.

"I'm looking forward to being part of the Infamous crew! It's going to be great working with Roberta and getting to meet the other team riders. My sponsors believe that this is a great step in my career, and I just keep thinking that I'm only 11, what is a career? I'm just having a great time shredding. But seriously, I do believe that being part of this crew is going to be an awesome experience all around, both personally and professionally." -Kyle Mack

At just eleven years old Kyle has begun to make his mark in the snowboard industry because of his raw talent and good style. Infamous has taken note of Kyle's athletic ability and achievements, and wants to provide him with direction as he makes the first and most vital decisions in his snowboard career. Infamous will ensure that he becomes a well-rounded and highly marketable athlete, and that his snowboarding will continue to stand out among his peers.

"In an era where there are more followers than leaders Kyle stands out, not just with his talent and style, but also with his knowledge and passion for snowboarding. Kyle knows what a real pro snowboarder is and doesn't let the mainstream market dictate that to him. He respects the riders that are doing real tricks and pushing the sport. In the near future Kyle will be the one setting the standard, I have no doubt about that. He has talent, maturity, and passion,  plus the support of a loving family behind him.  With the added support of Infamous and our athletes he will succeed." -Roberta Rodger

Kyle's ultimate goal is to become one of the best snowboarders in the world, which is why he wants to develop experiences in heli-boarding, the backcountry and at rail events. Not to mention he would like to have continuing success in halfpipe and slopestyle competitions.

Mammoth Mountain Unbound Terrain Parks Undergo Big Improvements in Preparation for 2008/09 Winter Season

Mammoth Mountain, CA – Although it is Mid-August and there are no signs of snow on the ground, the Unbound Park Crew is as busy as ever preparing for the upcoming season.  In keeping with its vision of creating the best terrain parks in the world, Mammoth Mountain has made $750,000 in capital investments including improved grading and expansion of current terrain, new “Adventure Zones,” enhanced snowmaking and two brand-new Piston Bully 400 Park Bully Snowcats.

Leading off the improvements for the upcoming season is the massive amount of grading and shaping being done to enhance the existing terrain in Unbound Main.  25,000 cubic yards of dirt are being moved which doubles the useable area of Thunder Road, the site of Lower Unbound Main Park.  With the addition of this new terrain, the Unbound Park Crew will have more freedom than ever to create the best jump and jib setups possible.

Another big change for the upcoming season is the enhanced snowmaking capabilities for the Superpipe and Unbound Main Terrain Park.  Instead of simply adding new water and air pipes into the ground, Mammoth Mountain decided to recycle underutilized snowmaking systems that were already in place to create a more efficient layout.  “We thought it was more environmentally friendly to rearrange what we already had with better placement and layout, rather than putting more metal in the ground,” said Oren Tanzer, Director of Youth Action Sports Marketing at Mammoth Mountain.  “This will allow us to have the best selection of features and an earlier opening of Mammoth’s world-famous Superpipe.”

Mammoth Mountain prides itself on offering terrain parks for every level of rider to allow for smooth progression from beginners to seasoned professionals.  With this in mind, Mammoth Mountain is excited to announce the addition of four new “Adventure Zones” to complement their Family Fun Parks.  These new runs will be fun tracks built into the trees featuring a variety of berms, rollers and small bumps.  “For years, the Ski and Snowboard School and Race Team kids have been exploring these ‘secret spots.’ We just decided to share these well kept secrets with all our guests in the hope that everyone will have more fun,” said Finlay Torrence, Director of Eagle Lodge Ski and Snowboard School at Mammoth Mountain.  “Adventure Zones” will be located near Disco Park, Forest Trail Park, Wonderland Park and Eagle Express Lift.

Rounding out the list of major improvements for the Unbound Terrain Parks will be the addition of multiple new jibs for the 2008/09 season, some of which are signature features for Vans and Dragons to complement the popular 2007/08 Quiksilver signature jib – a large skate-inspired pyramid made of 100% steel and coated in clear Lexan plastic.  Mammoth Mountain is consistently ranked as having some of the best terrain parks in the world by multiple industry publications and these new additions reinforce the commitment Mammoth Mountain puts into its world-famous Unbound Terrain Parks year after year.

The Mammoth Mountain Unbound Terrain Parks lead the industry in innovation and quality with seven parks, three pipes, 65+ jibs and 50+ jumps on 90 acres of California’s favorite mountain resort. Using state-of-the-art equipment to provide a progressive environment for all levels, from beginners to a team of 13 professional athletes, the Unbound earns consistent ratings among the top parks of the world. For more information on the Unbound and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, visit mammothunbound.wordpress.com or call 800.MAMMOTH.

Burton Snowboards

Porters Sports of Lake Tahoe – one of the country’s premier ski and snowboard shops – is proud to announce the launch of a new version of its website porterstahoe.com. In less than two years, its first version achieved multi-million dollar revenues and became one of the fastest growing ski and snowboard ecommerce websites in the country. The new website offers greater and easier navigation, the inclusion of community forums and user-generated product reviews as well as a series of Porters-produced, on-snow ski and snowboard video reviews.

Beyond the enhanced features, there have been several major customer service improvements. Porterstahoe.com now pays the sales tax for California and Nevada residents, meaning that any purchases made online from porterstahoe.com are completely sales tax free. In addition, porterstahoe.com now offers a 100% “Satisfaction & Price Match Guarantee” as well as lifetime, unconditional return policy. It still offers free, ground UPS shipping for anyone in the United States’ “lower 48.” This past spring it also began shipping a large percentage of the almost 20,000 items available to purchase on porterstahoe.com to international customers. However certain brands, such as Burton and K2, can only be shipped domestically due to contractual limitations.

Porters Sports of Lake Tahoe began selling ski equipment in Tahoe City, CA in 1960 – the year the Winter Olympics came to Squaw Valley. Since that time it has added two other locations in Truckee, CA and Incline Village, NV. It also has an “off-price” only store next to the Tahoe City dam and Truckee river outlet affectionately named the “Dam Outlet.” Porterstahoe.com was launched in the fall of 2006.

Wednesday theme slash trusty technics..

Not sure if you've noticed but this is my third blog post in 3 days. Yes, I'm trying to live up to my word. What to blog about today?? Boring team news like??? ah... Kales sleeping, Duff drank 10 coffee's, Dev's golfing, Mikey has a new weird voice mail message, Wille's experimenting with a new hair cut, Tadashi's eating rice... Nah.. I know, I'll use my trusty google and youtube search technic.

Its Wednesday so I googled "Wednesday images". Super creative, yes I know. Anyway, this is the gold that appeared.

You don't stop when you're on a hot streak so I hit youtube next, searched "Wednesday" again and tadah

I've never seen the movie "Big Wednesday" but will definitely be hunting it down to bring along on my "surf trip" or more realistically "drinking beer on the beach trip" at the end of the month.

You ever realize that once you're on youtube its almost impossible to get off. Its like internet crack. 90 percent of the time you're just watching junk but at the time its more like a butter sandwich. So good going down but you know its bad for you. I don't even know why I'm posting this but I bet you'll watch it till the end.

I guarantee your favorite action sports brand will be sponsoring these dudes next week..

This month kicked off with some awesome snow and cold winter conditions. We had some excellent fresh powder riding for April fools day thanks to some short hikes into the high alpine. We are currently in the middle of the World Ski and Snowboard Festival here in Whistler which means lots of free bands in the village and world class snowboard competitions.

Local Camp News

At camp things are starting to slow down a little with only onr more week of programs for the winter calendar. That doesn't mean that we are slowing down as we are busy preparing for summer with our new NZ trip (Which is happening in September) as well as summer camp training in June and July. If you are keen to come out to Whistler the you can now book for new winter for our freestyle and freeride snowboard instructor training. If you would like to come to NZ you can check out the information on-line at

Cooler Magazine

Keep an eye out for Cooler Magazine on the shelves at your local news agent. Cherry from http://www.coolermag.com was just out at camp three weeks ago to check us out and write a story about our programs. They are a womens snow, surf and lifestyle magazine out of Europe which is an alternative lifestyle haven for young women.

This will be a super fun holiday experience with the flexibility for us to be able to switch up our schedule based on conditions and the groups riding goals. We have 4 star comfortable accommodations with a gym, heated pool and bbq area so when we are off the slopes we will be living in style. We are also going to partake in some jet boating, bungee, snowmobiling and heliskiing for those who are keen as optional extras.

Camper News

Our most recent Level 1 and 2 candidates all dominated their exams with above standard being a common thread for many of the results sheets. We had a huge party at the end of March with many of the long term campers finishing up for the winter. Most of the crew have decided to stay in town and ride until the end of the April and make the most of the excellent snow conditions.

WHISTLER GETS SET TO SPOTLIGHT BIGGEST TALENTS IN MUSIC, SPORTS AND ARTS, APRIL 11-20

Preparations underway to ready Whistler for

13th TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival

WHISTLER, BC, April 10, 2008 –

The TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival’s unique fusion sports, music and arts gets underway April 11 in Whistler and operations crews are busy getting the resort ready for ten days and nights of non-stop events and entertainment.

In the Village, where 11cm of snow fell earlier in the week to freshen up the 265cm base, 10 tonnes of scaffolding is being set up to build viewing platforms, the Pontiac Battle of the Bands stage, and the Outdoor Concert Series Main Stage, where headline acts De La Soul, Lil’Jaz, The John Butler Trio, Blackalicious, The Trews, Ill Scarlett, Daniel Wesley, Julian Marley and Michael Franti & Spearhead will perform free concerts daily from 2:30pm.

On the mountain, 3 different competition venues are being constructed, providing elite level features to showcase the world’s best skiers and snowboarders. The Big Air (finals taking place at the base of Whistler, April 12, 8pm) will feature a brand new design, with a 65 foot step-over gap jump that Whistler Blackcomb Events Manager, YP (Peter) Young says, “will allow the riders to go higher and farther than ever before.”

In addition, the 500 foot long Superpipe has been rebuilt to feature sheer 20 foot walls that will see riders and skiers at the April 16-19 competition gain maximum amplitude.

The Chief of Course for the Big Air and the Superpipe, master park-builder Steve Petrie, is also the designer and builder of the 2010 Olympic Halfpipe.

With Whistler Blackcomb’s talented crew of groomers and pipe builders logging more than 350 hours on the venues, and more than 7 million gallons of water pumped through the system by the snowmaking team, the Superpipe and Big Air jump will be ready to draw the best performances from over 200 skiers and snowboarders from around the world.

Saturday, April 12 will also see Blackcomb Mountain host the resurrected Orage Masters, a slopestyle contest that features the hottest skiers in the new school world, on a course designed by pro athlete, Vernon lad, TJ Schiller and built by a Whistler Blackcomb team under the guidance of park builder extaordinaire, Marty Gautrey.

Sporting events with a non-stop mind-blowing soundtrack is not all that’s in store at the thirteenth TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

The event’s artistic side has been nurtured over previous years, with 10,000 tickets available in a showcase of mountain culture, from Icon Gone, a debate about whether the best of Whistler is history (April 13), to the Schick Extreme 3 Fashion Exposed (April 18), to the theatre performance of The Chairlift Revue (April 20).

The Festival’s multi-media visual feasts, the Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown (April 17), the D250 Filmmaker Showdown and Second Cuts Screening (April 15-16), and the world premiere of mountain bike film Seasons (April 11), guarantee that every seat feels front and centre to capture the action with the ground-breaking multimedia installation, currently being constructed.

The 6-sided screen, dubbed “the Borg”, is being installed by a 10 person team at Rocky Mountain Productions, with 900 foot of truss, 7 miles of cable, and a total amplification of sound of 55,000W. (That’s nearly 800 times the sound of your home stereo, according to the godfather of the installation, Scott McPhee.)

The Borg will then be struck down to make room for the Festival’s finale, the DJ Experience, featuring DJ Dan and Donald Glaude, Mark Farina and Mat the Alien, ensuring that the party doesn’t end when the sun goes down, April 19.

175 pieces of original art from leading street artists around the world are being hung in the 10,000 square foot gallery foyer of the TELUS Conference Centre, for the urban art exhibit, Brave Art, April 11-18. The exhibit receptions on April 12 and 13 will feature live painting from over 40 artists.

Whistler is a hive of activity, preparing the resort for ten days and nights of non-stop events and entertainment, that will turn Whistler into ground zero for the biggest celebration of mountain life, starting tomorrow.
