FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The North Face Masters of Snowboarding 2009 Tour Dates Announced by The North Face and Mountain Sports International

The North Face Masters of Snowboarding is the largest big mountain snowboarding tour in the country, with a prize purse of $45,000 and two new world-class venues

Registration is now open on www.thenorthfacemasters.com

Salt Lake City, Utah, December 17, 2008 – Now in its sophomore year, The North Face Masters of Snowboarding (TNF Masters) has become the largest cohesive competitive big mountain snowboarding tour in the country. A three-stop tour, TNF Masters is designed to cater to the motivation, talent and skill of world-class big mountain snowboarders. The 2009 tour visits Snowbird, Utah, Crested Butte, Colorado, and culminates at the ultimate big mountain competition venue of Kirkwood, California.

“The North Face Masters tour is going to be off the chain this year,” said TNF Masters Alyeska, Alaska, 2008 champion Rob Kingwill. “I am excited to be a part of the movement toward giving big mountain snowboarding competition the recognition it deserves. All three 2009 venues are world-class, and I can't wait to see what happens.”

TNF Masters features a $45,000 cash prize purse and serves as a qualifier event to the Freeride World Tour. Winners from the Snowbird and Crested Butte TNF Masters events will have the opportunity to compete in the Nissan Tram Face at Squaw Valley, California.

"Freeriding, the use of natural terrain, fall line, and innovation from riding style is the essence of big mountain snowboarding,” said TNF Masters Head Judge Tom Burt. “The TNF Masters series is designed around this and that is the reason why I agreed to become the head judge. The terrain will be delivered by Snowbird, Crested Butte, and Kirkwood. All have different flavors of terrain so each will bring its own challenges for the riders, and every rider will bring their own style and innovation to each venue. When the two mesh the best freerider will emerge.“

TNF Masters gathers big mountain snowboarding tribes from all around the world. All male and female snowboarding competitors above age 18 are welcomed to participate. Registration is now open on www.thenorthfacemasters.com.

Peanut Butter and Rail Jam 2009

Peanut Butter and Rail Jam 2009

Seria imprez jibbingowych spod znaku Volcoma ponownie atakuje Europę.

Friday the 15th marked the beginning of the first annual Westbeach Chinese Downhill and an effort to reconnect with the spirit of shredding often lost in the myriad of publicly traded companies, profit margins and share-holder accountability that make up the current snowboarding landscape. Although all in the name of fun and beer drinking, a definite air of competitiveness was present amongst the 35 or so contestants vying for the title of fastest shred.

Westbeach's Dave Short and posse, pre mayhem gondy ride.

Notable attendees included, Shin Campos, Rube Goldberg, Kevin Sansalone, Jon Cartwright, Colin Adair, Ryan Tiene, Steph Just, Beau Bishop, Wiley Tesseo, Robjin Taylor and all the local shreds that made this event great. The rules were simple: first person to reach the Creekside Underground skatepark from the top of Million Dollar ridge and successfully finish a beer would win the affections of his peers and $500.

grey-out.jpg

Weather? Dude it was epic...of course.

hock_robjn.jpg

Brian Hockenstein and Robjn Taylor. Check out the polar opposites of emotions.

In the end it was a mix of veterans Kevin “Snacksie-pants” Sansalone and Shin “Getsu” Campos racing spring-chickens John Caulfield and Anthony Weglan to the finish line. Their shred skills had brought them to the bottom in a possible record time of 4 minutes 53 seconds but the contest was ultimately decided by the beer chugging skills of Shin. Who says professional snowboarding doesn’t teach valuable life skills?

Can i get a lens wipe? Filmer Corey G's rig under attack from the elements.

Perhaps the best part, and the intended effect, was the sense of camaraderie felt by everyone there. It was a great reason for people who are often segregated by work and busy winter schedules to come together and snowboard for the sake of snowboarding. Thanks Westbeach, see you next year.

tiene_gross.jpg

DC Canada team manger Gerhard Gross and DC am Ryan Tiene may not have won the race but they won a spot in our hearts. "Its ok ryan, it's not all about winning, its about having fun... i love you man." they would later hug for an hour straight.

Hallo guys, my year was pretty fun actually, from parties to slopes, from contests to special events, from hard training days far away home, to really charming moments with the closest friends & crew.
A taste of different cultures & snowboard reality.I flied to  natural terrains i parks to film the esence of the snowboard, and one of those greatest places was Colorado, ridin' Aspen, Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge & Copper, With the support of real people with real style, real problems, real rockstar life, real funny faces, ones that will be drawn on my mind till' i dead.

This pic was taken, on the Slopestyle terrain at Breckenridge CO. USA.by Daniel  in the videocamera.
"i really felt it, see Jp flyin' to the next level in his beginner snowboard carreer is funny"
    Breckenridge CO. freeway park terrain.

This pic was taken by Otton, in an improvised kicker with a snow cliff to land near the Hotel Tres Puntas.
really fun shooting with the Still Underage new filming crew, Santiago and Lucas Perez, Iñaqui and me supported by OTTON BEANIES HAHA. Baka from Burton is in the videocamera.

"IN MEMORY" street session in Santiago. after the first snow in the city, we drive by, and hook up with some friends to shoot this rail.(first attempt in the history was taken last year by Pepo Parker RIPow dawg!, best rider, trainer, person, boyfriend, brother, workperson & son ever!) iñaqui irarrazabal AKA thashupael BLAER! kill it!

haha! well first of all...this was a dumb ass story of a film day with Heikki Sorsa & Shaun White, we where on a rock drop, just takin' a look and Santiago planned to drop it when this guys were filming, so the magic happens and he totally broke the landing so Heikki start to shout like crazy man! "fucckkk!"  we finished at the Giovanni's Restaurant cheering and apologizing to the little disaster local kids haha, see you next year badass!

As the spring was arriving, i was trying to get some fun Halfpipe moments before the Spring pipe Contests, one of those focused in the memory of Pepo.
pic taken by MAN, and there is our lovely swizz inspiration ROXxY just taking a look on my back!

in memory Pipe contest, only the closest mountain friends of Pepo were deleited with a sweet breakfast from hands of Manu & family, and Pepo's family...
awesome moves, i awesome food!

pic taken by Fips, at the US backcountry...

being faraway from home is dificult, but beautiful...Que pasa con los BRISS! cabin.

Also i love to skate when i'm not in the slopes or when we have bad weather on the mountain, is just feel some board on my feet and kill it!

well it's getting to be summer and i haven't posted in here in forever and i pretty much haven't used snowboard.com for much of anything in a year or two. but i'm back for now and i'm gunna re-do my profile and crap so it'll be sweet. pretty much....... this past season was amazing. i rode a ton, met a lot of awesome people, rode with a lot of awesome people, learned a ton, and became part of something that's pushing my riding even further. i'm bummed that the season is over and i'm bummed that i'm not going back to snowboard camp this summer. but i'm ok with it... through my trip there last summer, i learned that i can actually do a Lot of stuff on my board that i never thought i could do, if i just suck it up and try it... i also learned that riding with other people helps me out a TON with learning everything... so yes. it was a good season, besides being out a bunch of random weeks from a ton of random injuries.

this summer i'm gunna go crazy wanting to ride and i still haven't quite figured out what i'm gunna do about it this year. paintball is always a huge adrenaline rush for me but i can't do it nearly as often as i snowboard... i want to get those friggen ollies down while moving and learn to skate bowls this summer. i also want to get some freeline skates. if i had the money i would buy a kite for my wakeboard so i could go kiteboarding.... but those are crazy expensive. i just wanna have a lot of fun this summer and try a bunch of new things to push my limits.

unfortunately it's really hard for me to find ANYTHING that compares to snowboarding. i'm addicted to the adrenaline and oddly, getting hurt makes me want to go at it again and really nail the trick. i do alot of things during the summer that are really fun, but most lack the whole adrenaline thing. there's a little adrenaline with freebording.. it's mostly just fun though. street surfing doesn't create any adrenaline except for the 5 seconds before riding over the railroad tracks. skimboarding.... meh. it's not challenging anymore. fun, yes. but i don't feed off any part of it. aggressive skating... i could get into that again if i lived closer than 2 hours from a skatepark. skating around the street by myself got really old a few years ago. paintball creates crazy adrenaline... but it's not something that you create yourself like when snowboarding. unless you go rambo running out in the open shooting everyone you see and trying to dodge everyone's paintballs. i guess i tend to do that a lot though... i can't wakeboard anymore cause we don't have the board anymore. i'd like to get into rockclimbing.... i dunno i guess skating is the only thing that would keep me good till winter but i'd rather start off with that in a skatepark. and again, it's far away. so yeah this is my dillema. i'm addicted to snowboarding and i'm addicted  to adrenaline and there's usually quite a lack of both during the off season. and it's crappy!

next season i'm planning on  bumping everything up a notch. i've learned all the basics of everything so hopefully i'll get myself to take em to bigger things. should be interesting..

anyway buy this film www.iheartsnowproductions.com bye bye

On April 9th, 2007 Emerica posted an article and an interview about signing Jerry Hsu.

Emerica Article:
No more guessing. You nailed it. Please help us welcome super shredder Jerry Hsu to Emerica Footwear and Gear. Have you seen Enjoi’s Bag Of Suck video? What about Man Down from the Tilt Mode Army? If you just said no twice, it’s sincere-iously time to wake up from the coma you’ve been in and get your ass down to your local skate shop for a screening! Everyone else, ’nuff said--you already know that Jerry’s skating is truly of epic proportions!

A longtime friend of Emerica, NorCal ruler Jerry fits in with the team like a brand-new pair of our shoes: absolutely perfect! In addition to joining the distinguished pros of Emerica Footwear, Jerry will also accompany Heath Kirchart and am Marquis Preston on Emerica Gear, and start breaking shi*t off for the next Emerica video, Stay Gold, coming in 2008. Daaaaayum! Jerry's interview is already up, so go dive on in for more details. Welcome to Emerica, Jerry!

Interview:
How and when did you start skating?
1992. It was a gang initiation thing.
Who were you skating with at first?
Myself.
What terrain were you riding at first?
Flat ground and a piece of wood with a 2 x 4 under one end.
Who were some early influences on your skating?
The bad, older kids with green hair and 42-inch waist jeans.
Do you enjoy skating in contests?
No.
How could contests be improved?
Weapons.
What is good / bad about being a pro?
Everything's good, nothing's bad.
What do you think of skate videos?
Less blah-blah-blah, more raw-raw-raw.
Which are your favorites?
Barbarians at the Gate.
Do you enjoy shooting video parts?
Oh, its the best!
Do you skate small stuff like curbs and parking bumps?
Exclusively.
Why are curbs not allowed in magazines and videos anymore?
They're not allowed anymore?!
When was the last time you saw a curb in a magazine or video? Do you skate vert ramps?
Not really. If I do, it’s toward the bottom where its flat.
Do you skate backyard pools?
I don't do pools.
What do you think of public concrete skateparks?
They’re a good place to sell shoe packages.
How could they improve the design?
By not letting complete boneheads design them.
Should skateparks copy real street spots like Love Park and EMB?
Yes, but security guards and homeless people should be included in the overall design.
How did you get on Emerica?
Bethany Regan is a close personal friend of mine.
What do you like about Emerica?
They're my bros and they pay for my crystal healing sessions in New Mexico.
Who do you skate with now?
Everybody.
Who are your favorite skaters of all time?
Tino Razo.
What have been the highlights of your skateboarding career?
I was on the BET Network once, I think.
Is there anything in skateboarding you haven't done that you'd like to accomplish?
A reality show and sports drink deal. Duh.
What do you enjoy besides skating?
I enjoy everything besides skating.
What music, art, books have you been enjoying lately?
Religious literacy by S. Prothero.
What are your future goals?
To floss every night.

JumpCamp breaking news, current events, the latest headlines, news photos, analysis & opinion on top stories, world, business, politics and general shred dogging!

Jib Jam-boree a hit!

The inaugural JumpCamp Jib Jam-boree rocked! Competitors came from far and wide with one thing in mind; JumpCamp Glory! We're talkin' spin-in, spin-out tricks on our brand new ledge ( thanks for the ledge Jim! ), frontside to backside slides on the rainbow rail and some crazy buttering of the muffin on the JumpCamp roof step-up, built especially for the comp. Other highlights include eating burgers and hot dogs in the rain. Thanks to all the sponsors and shreds for coming out! We're going to have another contest before the end of the season so check the website for dates.

Coach Matt Brown considers shaving his long locks after seeing Britney Spears' new do. "I think I'd look good with a buzz-cut", Brown said before press time.

Road trips!
We're been on a few road trips lately. At JumpCamp we really love holiday road.
We headed off to Las Vegas to hob-nob with the snowboard industry a little while ago. We rode around in limos, gambled and ate buffets daily.
Coach Javan Wyker, that lucky ass, is off to Revelstoke to test out all the new '08 Ski-Doo sleds. Hope he gets stuck lots! Haha...

Another beauty, was a road trip we did to see some pals in Nelson. It was -18, sunny and the powder was awesome! Our main man Marlin showed us around and shot pictures. Thanks Marl! Check out Gnarly Marly's website at www.marlinolynyk.com

Nathaniel Vossen's long awaited movie "This Was Your Life" is finally done.
No, for real, I'm not kidding this time 'round! You gotta believe me... C'mon dude, I'm serious. Nathaniel's been in production of this skateboard/snowboard/lifestyle movie for 12 years so you know the finished product is going to be amazing. He's told me that April is when he's going to be having all the premier parties for it around the Island and the Lower Mainland. Keep posted for premier dates, you don't wanna miss this!

Our bros at Onethirtythree have got a new website up! You can check out their team,skate/snowboard pics, spots, vids and sales going on at the shop. Pretty cool. Check it out at www.onethirtythree.com

CONCRETE - THE SKATE PARK ISSUE March 2007

Remember the mag Concrete Powder? Well, now it's just Concrete 'cause it's all skateboarding, no shred-doggin'. Anyways, the new Concrete No Powder has a killer article about Courtenay and some rad pics in the skateparks around here. Our good buddy Sascha Daley has a bunch of wicked pics in there including a sick one of him kickflipping in the corner of Courtenay's indoor bowl at The Linc and one of him ollieing off a wharf into the water in Tofino. Brrrrr, shrinky, shrinky! My favourite one is of some little kid in the old Courtenay park going huge over one of the hips and there's some good ones in the new park such as a sequence of local home-dog Calen Drysdale. Nice one boys. Go grab it on newstands or at your local skate shop yo!
