(Saint-Sauveur, April 5, 2008) – Mont-Tremblant native Charles Reid has won the 2008 Empire

Shakedown grand finale, presented this Saturday at Mont Saint-Sauveur.  In addition to honours, the 17

year old snowboarder also won himself $15 000 in prize money.

Empire Shakedown is one of the premium snowboarding events in the world - classed in the top five by

the snowboarding industry.  This year’s competition also had two other Quebecois boarders climb onto the

podium, namely Sébastien Toutant, a 15 year old boarder from Lanaudière, and Sherbrook’s Antonin

Chamberland.  Chamberland was in fact one of only two amateur snowboarders to take part in the finals,

the other being Saint-Sauveur’s Matt Kulisek.

In total, 35 professional and 3 amateur snowboarders participated in the event; the finals saw the 15 best

athletes retained for a showdown.

‘I’m very excited to have won, it was a fantastic day, and the conditions were ideal for snowboarding – we

could have even competed in fleece and t-shirts!  I think the moves I really succeeded with, the front side

1080 and the back side 270 were what won me the competition.  I don’t really know what to do with the

$15 000 prize money, but for the moment, its going to the bank.  One thing is certain; I will be ready for

Shakedown 2009.’  explained an elated Reid.

Empire Shakedown is a unique competition among competitions, requiring that athletes master two

different snowboarding disciplines (the AMP booter jump, followed by the rail) in a jam format (unique to

the Shakedown).

Additionally, during the VANS Skateboarding half-time show and competition, Thomas Parent won top

honours and a money prize of $2 000.

An estimated 20 000 people have been present for the competition which has taken place over the past

two days.  ‘The level of competition is very high and the boarders have been extremely creative; some

jumps we’ve never even seen before.   The ambiance was incredible, especially today with the beautiful

weather we’re experiencing’ commented Brendan O’Dowd, President of DIZZLE Productions Inc, and one

of the Empire Shakedown’s organizers.

Top 3 Runs:

1st Charles Reid

- Jump: Front side 1080

- Double Kink rail: back side 270 lip on the kink rail

2nd Sebastien Toutant:

-Jump: Backside 1080 double cork

-Double Kink rail: gap to back lip

3rd Antonin Chamberland

- Jump: Front side 900

- Down rail: Front side 270

So it is now spring time but judging by the conditions in Whistler right now you would think it is mid winter. check the photo below with Jake basically drowning in powder up at the lake the other day. We Just had a good 4 day stint of sunshine so Logan and I were snowmobiling everyday and we are a tad bit tired and sore now. Below you can see a picture of our backcountry tour guide (and fellow Endeavor rider) Kale Stephens taking care of his morning business before we went to build some jumps. We stayed up till about 7:30pm yesterday to hit our jump right till sunset and it worked out great! I raced to the city and barely got my life together, then jumped on a flight to Montreal for the Empire Shakedown this weekend. Stay tuned for some photos and video update from the trip out east.

later boys and girls,

Johnny & Logan

Presents the amateur qualification.
On Friday April 4th, from 10am to 4pm

The top 3 riders to qualify will be invited to the Shakedown to
measure themselves against the professional riders.

This is an exceptional chance for the best am’s in Canada to be
noticed. We all remember Sebastien Toutant’s story, who after
qualifying during the am qualification in 2006, surprised everyone
by taking away the 10 000$ check.

Dickie used all his life saving to go to the biggest and the best snowboard comp in Canada, the Empire Shakedown. This was Dickie first time flying and he compares it to be like an acid trip.  He rode in the practice on Saturday and showed everybody what’s up, throwing down crazy moves on the rails and jump. I asked him why he wasn’t doing the comp and he said "Dickie doesn’t give a f++k about contest, Dickie only came for the parties and the Ho’s". That same night Red Bull had a private party for all the cool people and Dickie went nuts all night dancing and drinking heavily, rumor as that there was an incident involving a window being in his way, Dickie you're a total prick and we love you for it.

Qualifying rounds of Shakedown went down yesterday at Mont Saint Sauveur, as expected the crew from Empire continue to step it up.

Out of 80 riders, Adam Chuntz from Ontario took home first place wining an all expenses paid trip to Super Park in Colorado from Snowboarder Magazine.

Gabriel Mercier-Drouin rounded up second and with such tight competition Alexandre Ferland and Fred Lacroix both got on the podium sharing third place.

20 pro riders competed for $5,000 in the Coors Light Rail Jam, Louif Paradis and Charles Reid made it difficult for the judges to choose a winner, both riders were on their game, but in the end the $5,000 went to Louif Paradis.

For complete results and a detailed summary from the organizers see their results/release in French.

Or their blog for more pics.

This is probably the reason why Mikey piss the bed and puke all over himself, Happy birthday Mikey we are so proud of you. Some of the Wildcats are heading down to Canada's Biggest Snowboard Party, the Shakedown in Saint Sauveur Que. We will have a full report early next week, shi*t is bound to go down.
