Holy crap.. Did you see that Party Snake teaser yet? If so there's really only been two responses. 1. You loved it and can't wait to see more or 2. You hated it and wish it would die. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground on this on. Check out some of the comments I found on the Gnarcore site.

I'm still waiting on a revised teaser before I post it directly in the furious blog but you can check the rough version out on the Gnarcore site or find it on FB. There's some pretty funny comments there too:

I woke up the other morning to the realisation that it's already the month of June. Which means that winter is less than six months away. One reason I suspect the time seems to have gone by so quickly is that, by most standards, the weather this spring has been rather sub-par with cooler than usual temperatures and lots of rain (let's save that precipitation for the winter folks). In the spirit of making the best of it, the Snowboard.Com east coast crew decided to end the month of May with a bang (from a boom stick) by taking in a musical.

The city of Toronto has a rather vibrant theatre scene. Which is not something you would expect snowboarders to notice but we can be highbrow once in a while too. Of particular interest, the Diesel Playhouse was putting on an adaptation of a classic cult zombie movie Evil Dead throughout the spring. When I tell people about it, they usually give me a strange "it's a musical about zombies?" look. I'm quick to point out that It can't possibly be any worse than the opera adaptation of An Inconvenient Truth (an opera about a PowerPoint presentation? Really?) Besides, how often can you say you've been to a musical and left covered in fake blood (I assume it's fake). It's like Shakespeare meets Gwar, how can this possibly suck?

The Ottawa contingent of the crew stayed at the Holiday Inn on King street, only two blocks away from the playhouse. Upon arriving, we shared the elevator with some nice ladies who were in town to see the Dirty Dancing musical at the Princess, and they asked us if we were there for the same reason. Based on my general appearance, I found this question somewhat odd. The look on their face was priceless once we told them we were going to see Evil Dead, and it led me to the conclusion that we probably wouldn't to be going down with them (in the elevator you perverts).

Can you find the snowboarders?
The East Coast Crew waiting to get Evil

After scattering to track down food and beer for later, it was time to meet up with the rest of the crew. Since we were all coming from different directions, and not everyone had actually met in person prior to this meet, the logistics of meeting up were a slight bit difficult. In fact, one of my road trip companions, Chris, called my cell to tell me he was going to meet one of the other members of the crew, also named Chris, whom he had never met previously. I said "you don't know what he looks like, how are you going to spot him on a downtown Toronto street?" His response: "He's a snowboarder." That's when it occurred to me that we snowboarders do live at a different pace than most people (skiers too). Especially in a metropolitan area such as Toronto where people seem to be in much more of a hurry and much more concerned about their image than in most places. I actually had faith, due in no small part to Chris' response, that my shred pals would have no problems finding each other. I was not mistaken, I caught up with the rest of the group in front of the hotel and we made our way to the playhouse.

The musical itself was extremely entertaining. Since it's based on the Evil Dead series of movies (Evil Dead , Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness), we were expecting a certain amount of camp, and this stage show was certainly full of it. It was done in the perfect self-effacing way which rendered it amusing rather than annoying. The actors even joked about how Spider-Man 3 was a horrible movie (Sam Raimi directed the Evil Dead movie). The highlight of the musical was the final battle at where Ash slayed all the zombies (sorry for the spoiler). I have never seen so much fake blood used in my life. It was squirting out of the walls all over the crowd. Fun times.

After the show, stoked on being evil, the crew got up to some pre-drinking at the hotel in preparation for painting the town red (with blood?). After getting nicely warmed up, we were off to find establishments to consume refreshments. Yet somehow this feat could not be managed without a tree being transplanted into the hallway to our hotel. Apparently alcohol turns people into landscapers.

After walking around for a while and ducking into a number of pubs for refreshments, along with some other random shenanigans, it was time to call it a night since the bars were closing. On the way back to the hotel, I received a text message from Chris saying that apparently someone was shot behind the princess theatre. They were cleaning up the scene as he was walking to meet his ride to Whitby. All this time, I was expecting that our musical would prove more violent than Dirty Dancing, which our lovely friends from the elevator were attending. Clearly I was mistaken on that count.

Check out my crazy hair.
Puppet Jesus sitting at the top of the Big Apple in Colborne.

The following morning, we decided to locate a Golden Griddle we had seen the night before to have breakfast before we left. After fueling up on the all you can eat buffet and omelet bar, it was time to hit the road. On the way home, we decided to stop at the Big Apple in Colborne to buy some pies. This is where our trip took on a whole new dimension of cool when picked up an itinerant puppet with long hair, a beard, and some crazy ideas. That puppet turned out to be Jesus (or at least a very striking likeness thereof). The irony in all this is that we found him at a Big Apple which, if memory serves, is the forbidden fruit of the Genesis. Jesus was quick to participate in our road games of "hot or not" and was surprisingly good at it. Although I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since he is the son of god. In any case, Jesus is dope and he's certainly a good road trip companion, a fan of metal and a darn good dancer. When we first picked him up, he was rather subdued. Nathan even thought he was dead but we knew not to worry, "he'll be full of life in three days." It certainly didn't take three days, especially after a can of Saskatoon Beaver Buzz.

The Beaver Buzz turned out to be a bit of a mistake. Although tasty, it must contain some kind of super diaretic because it made me have to pull off the highway to pee. I was going to wait for the gas station restrooms until Jesus pointed out that the world is my gas station rest room. He's so wise. We finally made it home satisfied with our road trip shenanigans and happy for having found Jesus.

In sticking with my usual modus operandi of never walking away from an experience without learning something, here's what I learned this past weekend:

  • Snowboarders are recognisable everywhere. They seem to have a different gate about them.
  • Apparently the Dirty Dancing musical, counter to conventional wisdom, was much more violent that the Evil Dead musical... go figure.
  • Jesus Saves... road trips. Although ours didn't need saving by any stretch. He sure made it more interesting. Keep your eye open for him, you never know where you might find Jesus.

Phew! Those are important life lessons indeed. Now I'm looking forward to my next live theatre excursion. Rumour has it that Monty Python's Spamalot is coming to Toronto in the fall, maybe I'll check that out. I'll be staying away from the Dirty Dancing musical though, that's much do violent for my sensibilities. In the meantime, I'm rejoicing in the fact that there's less than six months until winter and you can bet that I'm counting down the days.

ITs as if Global warming does have an affect in our world! Especially in Saskatchewan! Its middle to near the end of Jan and it feels like we barely had a winter, it is as if spring is now here and winter is gone. Pretty soon it will disappear all together and that will suck. Which mean no more practicing my snowboarding on our lil "mountains" lol out here, which also means more expenses to travel to Alberta and British Columbia for extreme boarding! so where do i practice now? do i need to buy a snow machine? i don't know but it makes me so fricken mad!!

so mike and i are officially in ontario. and how. we got to drive the whole way (well, mike drove while i took pictures and sang), only got lost four times (two of which i still maintain were not our fault!), never ran out of gas, and still made it to ontario in time for thanksgiving.

SSL20016.jpg Just North of Squamish, BC picture by tombuk

we started it all off with the def leppard and styx concert in vancouver. it was everything i'd built it up to be, complete with middle-aged groupies and lighters waving in time with music. both bands actually put on a surprisingly good show, and although there's nothing better than watching a band perform in the prime of their lives, watching them perform throughout middle age is one of a kind.

our next stop was whistler, where mo was kind enough to throw us a goodbye party. it was awesome to see everyone, and thanks to all who came out. wish we could have stayed longer, but as always, it was onwards and forwards the next day. we had a long drive through to calgary. went the wrong way on the reserve north of pemberton, and again in lilloet. but we were pretty good at correcting ourselves, and didn't go too far out of our way! in lilloet we stopped at the tourist info centre, which doubled as a hunting museum. it was a little eerie asking directions under the glassy-eyed stares of the counter girl and multiple elk, bighorn sheep, deer, and moose heads.

SSL20106.jpg Fraser River, Interior BC picture by tombuk

we got through the rockies while it was still light out, and the views made it all worthwhile. the highway we were on was in desperate need of repairs for the most part... in fact, just outside kamloops we actually got caught in construction! not that we really minded, i mean, toyota paseos are built for offroading right?? well, mike thought so anyways. it wasn't until we went over the railroad in alberta that my poor little car got its first taste of flight.

SSL20174.jpg Rockies, BC picture by tombuk

we finally chugged into calgary, having made surprisingly good time after all. something about men drivers and stuff... anyways, we had talked to kyle and he was willing to put us up for a couple nights in exchange for my questionable talents as a model and makeup artist. so, with misplaced faith in googlemaps, we turned left where we should have turned right (the map said slight left! so really, we were following directions perfectly!), and got lost in hidden valley. the thing with calgary is, every little section uses derivations of the same name to demarcate itself from the rest of the town. so we were faced with the choices of hidden valley road, hidden valley crescent, hidden valley heights, hidden valley close, and so on and so on. for how easily we found it, it damn sure wasn't hidden well enough! in the dark, we trundled back and forth until mike said "oh, i think this looks familiar... let's go this way..." and suddenly we were on the map again. whew! i think we were both quite relieved when we found the address we thought was right, and kyle answered the door, instead of some irate old lady in a housecoat. or worse, a happy old man asking if we liked popsicles.

SSL20103.jpg Lake in BC picture by tombuk

the next day, kyle graciously showed us around calgary, and the weather cooperated (there were a lot of clouds in BC), so we had a fun day. we'd booked the photo shoot for 5, and after two hours of having my hair pulled out by the roots, i was able to slap on some makeup and get the real photos started! apparently my hairdo was worth $300 or so... it looked fantastic, but my only masochistic tendencies involve ink and needles, so i was rather happy that my $300 wasn't necessary, and i can put it to much better use! as for the shoot itself, you'll all just have to wait for the calendar to see the fruits of our labours!

SSL20210.jpg Rockies and Fields in Alberta picture by tombuk

the next morning we were off to drumheller, to look at dinosaurs. mike was making every dinosaur joke under the sun (and then some...), which i didn't find very amusing after the first five minutes, let alone the next three hours... but the museum made up for my frustration! i felt a lot better once we got inside, because bones don't talk, and they definitely don't make jokes about "ooh, dinosaur crossing! we have to be careful not to hit one, or they might go extinct again!" once we'd had all the dinosaur bones we could take, we went off to find our hotel. mike was pretty excited when he saw a hotel advertising "WATERSLIDES!!"

SSL20235.jpg Badlands, AB picture by tombuk

and so we stayed with the waterslides. mike had way too much fun with that... he would go up the stairs, and throw himself into the slide, emerging at the bottom giggling like a little schoolgirl, having almost cracked his skull open on the opposite side of the pool. i went once, but really didn't get the magicalness of it. oh well. we were joined in the pool by an older, rather large man, and seeing mike having such fun, he decided he just had to try it too. i was scared he was going to get stuck, but no, he made it through fine and plopped into the water, also giggling like a little schoolgirl. must be a guy thing.

SSL20254a.jpg Mike in Horseshoe Canyon, AB picture by tombuk

the next morning we stopped off to visit the largest t-rex ever, which for a minimal fee, we could have climbed up to look out over the town of drumheller. we adopted the "lets not and say we did" philosophy, and took a couple pictures to satisfy our inner tourist, and hopped in the car, heading off to saskatoon.

SSL20280.jpg Mike fighting a Trex, Drumheller, AB picture by tombuk

we'd planned to stop in tramping lake along the way, where my grandmother was born. our directions (again, google maps), specifically told us to go left on highway 21. we found highway 31, and thought "oh, it will be soon!". miles of fields and a few dirt roads later, we found ourselves at highway 4. shi*t. we'd gone too far. but we hadn't seen a single sign indicating which dirt road was highway 21. so we doubled back a bit, trying to find a street sign, any street sign, which would tell us where the hell highway 21 was. or highway 656, that would've worked too. we knew we were supposed to be driving over a lake, and when we drove over a ... pond ... mike said "that might have been it!" he nearly had me convinced, when we passed over another, larger pond. "oh, i bet that was it" he said. after the third "lake" we crossed, i stopped listening to him.

SSL20313.jpg Grain Silos in AB picture by tombuk

we never did find it, and eventually admitted defeat, continuing on to saskatoon. i guess finding a community of 20 people is a little more difficult than it should be.

SSL20305.jpg Hay Bales in AB picture by tombuk

the next day was saskatoon to winnipeg. a lot of people will say the prairies are boring. i agree. sort of. growing up on an island in the pacific ocean, i definitely didn't have much exposure to rolling fields of grain, so i found it interesting. there was always something to look at, and a lot of ramshackle old barns and sheds, which i quite like. winnipeg turned out to be quite the treat, believe it or not.

SSL20387.jpg Derelict barn in AB picture by tombuk

we decided to stay at the holiday inn, since i was paying, or so mike says. when we checked in, we were offered a suite, a fancy room, or a kids room. being cheap, we went for the kids room, and man did we ever make the right choice! as soon as we got on the elevator, mike was already getting giddy, talking to the fish in their aquarium. as soon as the door opened, the first thing we saw was a pirate mural. mike started giggling. we stepped out and looked to our right, where there was a huge jungle gym with another pirate walking the plank. mike giggled some more. we walked down to our room, and there was a treasure chest on our door. mike ... well, you probably have a good idea by now what he was doing!

cross-canada235.jpg Our Pirate room in Winnipeg, MB picture by tombuk

in essence, a kids room is a glorified playpen. inside our room there was a queen bed (supposedly for the parents), and a whole separate room for the kids, complete with bunkbeds and more pirate murals! the kids also had their own TV and PS2, which we did not use becuase we spent too much time in the 'play room' right outside our window. we played foosball, went swimming in the kiddie pool, and got attacked by a shark named jeffrey (his mother was quite content to let him chase us around the pool). as usual, onwards and forwards the next day, we pushed into the dreaded ontario, and saw one of our only sunsets on the trip (lots of clouds).

SSL20646.jpg Sunset in Ontario picture by tombuk

thunder bay to sault ste marie the next day, we really wanted a hotel with a pool, so we asked around, and since the best western (mike REALLY wanted to enjoy its waterslide, unfortunate for him) was playing host to three tour buses, we opted for the quiter option, which turned out to be not all that quiet in the end anyways. we did get to enjoy a thunderstorm that night though, which i found pretty exciting!

SSL20668.jpg Kakabeka Falls picture by tombuk

ontario was where we finally decided to get out of the car at real rest stops, not just pulling onto the shoulder for thirty seconds of waving cameras around. i figured since i'm going to have to live here, i might as well make it worth my while!

SSL20770.jpg Lakeshore in Ontario picture by tombuk

the thunderstorm followed us all the way home the next day, and i was a bit scared that the power would go out right at the end of the canucks game, but it managed to hold together and i got to watch the canucks win in overtime, so at least my first night as a resident of dundas was exciting!!!

SSL20717.jpg Our trip, Terry Fox Memorial Viewpoint, ON picture by tombuk

and now i realise i've written way too much, as usual. oh well, i guess that happens! mike and i have been settling in (or back in, in his case). it's been a whirlwind, but i think things are finally starting to settle down. our internet is finally up, which means i can actually start applying for jobs. yay! hope everyone is well and you guys didn't miss us too much!

So it's been a while since i have wrote anything but i have lots to say.  First of all i have to say that I met every single member of the Pussycat Dolls and had a full conversation with each one for 5 to 10 minutes. If you don't know i work the overnight shift at a hotel in Calgary.  They were here last Thursday night for a consert.  I had the good fortune of having to get there bags from all there rooms. They all had seperet rooms so I would go to each room to get there bags and start talk about shi*t.  I asked one if she liked the reality show that they did, she hung her head and looked away. That tells you what they think of the show.  I asked anouther doll  if her 100 pound bag had her make up and her other faces in the bag (f*cken bag almost crippled me). Now they look smoken hot on TV, but in person a couple look jacked up. I think a few live in Silicone Valley.  Man make up does a lot for a gal.  Now they were gettin on a bus and going to Saskatoon for a show there. Half of them looked like they were dress for the bar the others were dressed to sleep on a bus .  Got to say that they all were dope and not all Hollywood bitch queens but there abs were so nice you could eat jello off of them and they tip pritty good.
That is one of my better nights i have had, others nights i get to kick vagrents out of the hotel for trying to sleep in bathrooms or under stairs, so much f*cken fun.

To end this, I can't think of one Pussycat Doll song but if I ever get the chance I will Tag them all.

You know you're from BC (granted, most of this generally applies to the lower mainland and Vancouver Island) when...

1. You know the provincial flower: the dogwood
2. You can taste the difference between Tim Horton's, Second Cup, and Seattle's Best.
3. Lower Mainland only: The last time there was snow, you were so confused you tried to snort it.
4. You can't tell, is marijuana still illegal?
5. You hate the Calgary Flames with a passion.
6. You point out Vancouver landmarks in nearly every movie and TV show
7. You don't understand why Manitoba and Saskatchewan are considered western Canada
8. While driving on your morning commute, you switch between heat and air conditioning multiple times
9. You consider 2 degrees freezing cold
10. You know that there is actually a town called Dawson Creek
11. You know how to distinguish between the different types of Asian food
12. You know how to pronounce Squamish, Osoyoos, Ucluelet, Esquimalt, Sooke & Nanaimo.
13. You actually care about the CFL.
14. You still believe the Canucks have a shot at winning the Stanley cup.
15. You can point out at least two ski resorts, even if the city is coated in fog.
16. A nice day means when you can see the mountains
17. You go bankrupt from paying your rent
18. You have come to accept that there are only two seasons
19. Cold and Rainy, and Warm and dry
20. You don't understand what's so great about Toronto
21. You never go camping without waterproof matches and a 100% water proof raincoat
22. You know more people with boats than air conditioners
23. You have trouble figuring out why French is an official language or why we have to learn it in school
24. You swear that you're in China or Japan
25. You don't find it weird that every time you go downtown, some crazy guy is talking to himself
26. Your premier was convicted of drunk driving
27. You know what venti and a macchiato are.
28. You ski and play golf in the same day
20. You are aware that Surrey, New West, Burnaby, Delta, Port Moody, North Van, West Van, Langley and Richmond are NOT part of the City of Vancouver

30. You're confused when people from anywhere else say that the hill you just walked up is a mountain
31. You think that Atlantic salmon doesn't even deserve to be called salmon when compared to Pacific Salmon
32. You've had a California roll for lunch.
33. You take the bus and are shocked to hear two people carrying on a conversation in English.
34. You don't even listen when the forecast announces "chance of showers."
35. The more expensive the car, the worse the driver.
36. When you get more excited about the Canucks making the playoffs than you do about the Olympics coming to Vancouver
37. Have to take a ferry to get to your capital city.
38. You are aware that Vancouver and Vancouver Island are not one in the same
39. You're legally an adult, but you still can only drive with one passenger in the car.
40. You can tell the difference between the fresh mountain air and the air in other provinces right when you get out of the airport
41. You know that your province started the "white towel" craze that so many other sports teams have borrowed.
42. You consider a week with no rain to be "good weather".
43. You drink the tap water
44. You know the only thing dividing China and India is the Fraser River
45. The only time you can get a tan is if you go to a tanning salon
46. When at any given time about 90% of people you pass on the street are wearing either LuLuLemmon or Mountain Equipment Co-Op clothing
47. Climbing the grouse grind is something you do for fun
48. You HATE Mick McGeough
49. You hate the leafs for no real reason
50. You are SHOCKED to hear someone speaking French.
51. Every time you go out you see at least two people pulled over for speeding/street racing.
52. You can't stand when someone from outside Canada asks if you're from Toronto.
53. You ask Albertans if they really have ski slopes.
54. The police don't respond to a crime scene because they are busy trying to find any reason to pull over a "N" license driver.
55. You are tired of people wanting to go to Barkerville
56. You know in Greater Vancouver that West Van, the west side, and the west end are all different places.
57. There are few things you hate more then following people from other provinces on the highway because they aren't use to all the turning.
58. You have to check the sports headlines daily to find out who the new Canucks goalie is.
59. You chuckle when you say the words "fast ferries"

61. The news has extensive coverage of just how badly people in Vancouver can drive in 3 inches of snow
62. You get a harsher punishment for having an extra passenger with an L license than your premier does for driving drunk
63. You leave the province to see the rest of Canada; you realize that there is nothing better to see.
64. You are genuinely confused with people that don't consider "Pirate Packs" to be an integral part of a healthy childhood.
65. You assume cab fares will cost a minimum of $25.
66. You're slightly irritated by the inaccuracies of Tony Hawk Underground's representation of Vancouver.
67. You think of Kokanee as a discount beer
68. Your license is the hardest to fake of any province
69. You're surprised and pissed to have to pay for the luggage carts when you get to any other airport
70. You know that it's "Science World", not the "Telus World of Science".
71. When you don't like the weather you go inside and wait 15 minutes for it to change
72. You say "I'm from Kelowna" and the ontario-ian says "so do you miss ?" even after you have corrected them 5 times.....
73. Your driving on the highway where the speed in the left lane is slower than the right lane
73. You have been lost in the woods on several occasions, you know you will be again, and you're ok with that.
74. You think $1.00/L is cheap for gas
