I decided to say heck with working this morning and took off for the mtn!!!  15 minutes into my journey to make first chair I realized I had forgotten to grab my Season's Pass..  There went first chair..  At least I realized it before I got to the mtn.. Laughing..

When I finally made it to the mountain there wasn't a whole lot of people there.. PERFECT! I flashed my riding clothes on in record time and off to the chair I went..  Let the havoc begin.. I searched out any sorta fluff I could find.. After a couple of quick test runs to reacquaint myself with the board I'd brought I hopped into the trees.. Ooo I found FLUFF!   AND all sorts of hidden "treasures!"   Tree stumps, rocks, roots Ooo my!  Laughing..  Good thing I can bend like gumby..

2 hours into my seek and destroy fluff mission I heard the music of my cell over the music of my ipod..   Drat my vehicle for ratting me out..  Now I could pretend not to have heard it but since I'm not good about making up missed calls I answered..   I get a "Hey Doll meet us at the park".. Hmmm.. Now I could pretend they were breaking up and I couldn't hear them.. Then go back to my seek and destroy fluff mission.   Alas I'm not good at acting either.. Soo I   s_l_o_w_l_y   made my way to the park.. I told myself the WHOLE WAY I was just going to watch them have at the rails.. I was just going to watch!  Yeah uh huh right.. And into the trap I fell..  I'd ask where my brains went but alas they were still in my head fully intact..

All my friends know I don't like to ride rails (back during my halfpipe competition days I saw a kid break his jaw on a rail.. Lots of blood..).. And to give my friends credit they never push me to ride the rails nor give me crap about it.. However there wasn't only rails in Birch Park.. There was a 25' culvert..  And there spelled my doom..   "Come on Doll you can ride that".. "Look it's easy"..   Ooo they definitely made it look easy.. And the nifty little tricks they were all pulling.. Looked fun..  DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB BLONDE!  I jumped up with a feeling of WOOHOO.. Charged that sucker.. I was sliding and feeling elated that I was going to make it.. Got 3/4 of the way through it (with my teeth chattering the whole way) and next thing I knew I was taking a snow sample..  The only comment I heard was a snickered "Want me to kiss it and make it better"..

I swear to God they set me up..

After all systems were checked and found to be in good working order.. The dumb blonde that I am tried again..  And took another snow sample, and another and another.. But you know what.. I finally made it!  Laughing.. Take that BOYS!

I made them buy me lunch..

I had a great time on the snow.. I can't wait until it starts dumping..

Hey a bunch of my photos are up on the TWS site. No biggie.. Here's a little sampler incase you don't feel like clicking on the link to below.

This shot here is pretty bad ass. Its probably the best image of mountain peeks ever captured. The funny thing is I actually didn't even slow down the sled to get it, I just shot it over my shoulder. I'm getting pretty good at framing stuff without thinking these days..

I'm the only photographer Dev will even consider shooting with these days. We have this unspoken trust thing going on between us thats real difficult to put into words. We just vibe off each other and make magic like the shot above. Nuff said.

Its real close because we're both super talented but I'd have to say my photos style is actually better then Dev's riding style in this particular photo. The thing with photography most people don't really understand is that you gotta play for keeps.

Click here to see the rest of my shots.

Tadashi's uncle's sponsor me vid. Wow, his on some next level video game type moves..

Not bad for 50..

These Rosemonts could be yours free

so  here it is, march 28, and in southern ontario it's still snowing. apparently this is unusual?!

for my first season here, it went pretty well, all things considered. of course i miss being out west on the real hills, but at least i'm not somewhere where i can't ride at all. we had some pretty wild storms this year, which helped appease me. the season managed to start at the end of november, which i have no real complaints with. and it's still going now, so hopefully i can get another day or two in before heading to whistler! it's also snowing today so i guess that's alright.

SSL21782.jpg picture by tombuk

i've sampled a bit of what ontario has to offer by way of ski bumps, and managed to find something to keep me occupied at all of them, with the exception of chicopee. sorry to any who call that home, but ouch. i didn't make it to glen eden, mslm, or tremblant. leaves me something to do next year! this year i did get a hot new onesie, which is fanfreakintastic.

SSL22006.jpg picture by tombuk

so here's where i went this year.... complete with pictures now since apparently i should always include pictures! in no particular order..

SSL21677.jpg picture by tombuk
made full use of my 5x7 pass. it was nice to stand at the top and see water, reminded me of riding mt washington at home in that sense. i pretty much lucked out on the days i went, had one icy day the entire year, and that's not so bad. taught a couple friends to ride here, and it was still fun. broke my helmet overshooting a landing. glades weren't too bad, they had snow again the other day so i was happy. figured since i'm in ontario i should check out the park, but definitely wasn't ready for the big air/big rails of the real park, so it was nice to have a couple beginner options. not that i used them much, i was too busy hip checking trees!
SSL21759.jpg picture by tombuk

SSL21491.jpg picture by tombuk
for the first day of the season it wasn't all bad. pretty tiny, they only had one lift open and a couple runs, but it was enough to say "winter's finally here!". it was great to get a feel for my new setup, it felt fantastic from the moment i strapped in.

SSL22091.jpg picture by tombuk
having a free place to stay in huntsville made this more exciting. easy to get bored here though, not a lot of challenge on the main runs. had a decent park for beginners though, so i got to pretend like i was a real ontario rider and hop on and off rails.
SSL22103.jpg picture by tombuk

we went for $10 tuesday, thinking damn, can't beat that deal! and so it was insanely crowded (it was also march break). their idea of a black diamond is about half a second of steep incline followed by flat. the park was poorly designed and there was no park etiquette to speak of. in fact, no mountain etiquette at all.

if only it were a more impressive list... but i guess we make do with what we have! and being in dundas is actually pretty good, since we're right on the escarpment. when there was snow in town, it made it easy to find at least little hills to ride on.

the dundas valley conservation area was my favourite though.
mike1.jpg picture by tombuk
after the disappointment of chicopee mike and i went to the conservation area, built our own mini booter not 5 minutes from our door, and spent the rest of the day practising hitting that. i finally figured out how to pop and grab, and it turned into one of the best days all season for me.
kendra1.jpg picture by tombuk

sure ontario doesn't hold a candle to out west, but i figure, for ontario, this season wasn't half bad. i can't wait to ride some real glades in whistler, hike a couple bowls, and ride some runs that last for more than thirty seconds.

hoo-ray for telus!

Group Name:

Animal Nation

Artists:

Steige 'Tall Man' Turner, Mike 'Armadillo Slim' Armitage.

How/What started Animal Nation?

Tall Man - An almost fight between me and Mike about whether or not a certain band was any good. I told him he wouldn't know good music if he made it himself. Turns out he did.

When did you decide that this was something that you two wanted to take to the next level?

TM - I don't remember taking it to the first level! Haha. I mean, it's been about ten billion tiny little baby steps, so it's been more of an uphill climb. Up a steep pitch. And we're both pulling really heavy refrigerators.

AS - And my refrigerator is filled with beer! (for a little while)

What’s your music background?

TM - I guess my dad used to play the drums. He was a studio musician for a while, but he hung up the kit when I was born, so I never really knew about that side of him until I found a drum kit in the garage one day. Jackpot!

AS - I don't have too much of a musical background besides the fact that I used to write a lot of poetry growing up. My mom tried to get me playing the piano and the violin when I was younger but I was too much of a rebel to listen to her. Momma's always right!

Who plays instruments?

AS - We have a house full of different instruments from slide whistles to potato shakers, but for the most part we just use them to jam out with. Steige plays the guitars and MPC and is getting good at the piano too. I just stick to the turntables and my voicebox mostly.

Take us through the process of creating a new song?

TM - We like drink until we blackout. That has nothing to do with creating a song, but we like to drink until we blackout.

AS - Its a really magical feeling knowing that you can create something besides a baby when you are drunk as a skunk and cruising in auto-pilot!

How do you guys get your beats? Do you create everything? Who is more into creating the beats and song flow?

TM - We gotsta do mad hutlez for beatzz! Sometimes we'll trade a beat we've made for a beat that we like that someone else has made. Sometimes we'll buy beats with money we've made selling our beats. Sometimes we'll make beats to use. Mike makes tons of beats, like a new one every other night. It's kind of ridiculous. He loves digging through old records and what not. I used to love the art of the chop (sampling), but I've gotten too much into listening to the music lately. And I always find it hard to sample a song that I want to keep listening to.

AS- The internet has played an integral role in the networking of Animal Nation which, in return, has allowed us to work with producers from all over the world. Hence the title, "TimeZone".

TM - As far as writing the song goes usually one of us will come up with the idea of the song, write a verse or a chorus for it, and give it to the other person. We'll pass it back and forth a few times, adding different parts, or changing the layout of a song, then record it. Recording the song completely changes the song. Halfway through recording you'll realize that you want to throw a couple instrumental bars in, or you'll want to take out the drum track for the second verse or something. Sometimes a song will take two hours to make, sometimes it will take two months.

What is your favorite song to perform?

TM - The corner of broadway. When we recorded it I recorded the entire song as a story, but when we do it live we go back and forth on nearly every line. It's cool to deconstruct and recreate your own music. Bop!

AS - I like to do the 'Aw Man Aw Well' remix produced by my man Matthias Relling in Germany. That one goes back and forth too and it relates to most people’s current financial situation. Cheery-O.

TM - I'm broke again! Aw man!

AS - Aw well.

What is a crowd favorite?

TM - I Never Cared (About the Troubles). That's the track right there! Scamp made the beat and it is amazing! We could have rapped about lasagna and it still would have been a good song. Although people seem to like that song we have about lasagna too, so who knows.

AS - Yeah that song pretty much appeals to everyone’s ear buds! Nuff said.

You guys have built your own recording studio at your place, how’s that?

AS - It’s awesome because we can do everything music related from our house but it sucks sometimes because we can’t always rock out as loud as we want due to the neighborly situation. Overall, it’s pretty convenient, though.

TM - People don't like harmonicas at 4 in the morning.

What was it like to be picked up by a record company? How is it?

TM - It was a thrill at first. Then we quickly started to realize that we could do everything that they can do, but we can do it without wasting time in meetings or wasting money on other people's efforts. I mean, I work 8 hours a day at my day job, then come home and spend another 8 hours doing music. I have no social life and I can't remember what kissing feels like, but at the end of the day we're the ones deciding how much we get out of it, and where we want to go with it. It rules.

AS - Yeah record labels pretty much suck.

You guys did a little trip over to Europe in the fall. How did people take to your shows?

AS - We got a great response from the Euro-Folk! People actually get into live performances and music in general over there. I just wish that all girls here looked like the ones in Denmark... DAMMMMN!

TM - I dunno man, the girls around here are pretty top notch. Too fine to give me any time, hah!

What’s the biggest/most publicity performance you guys have done?

AS - Thats a 3-way tie between the Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival, the pilot we filmed for MTV, and the morning news show we did for Global. The TWSSF was good because it was our first main stage act for a festival, the MTV pilot was awesome because all our fans/friends showed up to make the crowd rowdy, and the morning news was good because that was probably the biggest audience we've ever played for. Either way, they're all fun and games until somebody gets too hammered and needs to be carried home!

TM - Or loses two iPods on the same night.

Do you guys get to ride much?

TM - Dude! I got a pass super early this year because I was so stoked to get up on the hill, and I still haven't gone up once! Right before all the snow came I bought myself a fancy new guitar, so I've been spending most of my weekends locked up in the studio with my head in the clouds.

AS - I bunged up my shoulder early on this winter so I won’t be shredding again until spring. That’s ok, it’s not like this has been a good season or anything. NOT!

TM - Double NOT! Good luck untying that one.

Where can we hear your music?

TM - Check out our myspace page. That's easy. http://myspace.com/animalnation.

Where can we buy your music?

TM - Order it online at myspace for a hard copy, or iTunes for digital. You can get it in most indie record shops. If it's not on the shelves of your favorite record shop hold the place hostage with a butter knife and demand that they stock it!

My Journal: euro trip
By: O-Henry

London – We flew into Heathrow and the plan was to catch a train to Jamies grandmothers house in Oxford but her house was flooded.  So we got a tube to Camden & met up with Jamies cousin David who agreed to let us stay for a few days.  The first night in London we met up with some of Jamie’s friends.   We didn’t really want to do any of the touristy stuff in London, but we did go the National Gallery and Trafalger Sqaure. The exchange rate for pounds to Canadian dollars was pretty brutal so we didn’t spend much.  We caught up with a friend from school, Nicole who was in Kensington.  We walked past Hyde Park but we didn’t go check out the Princesss Diana memorial, so I didn’t get the chance to pee in it.  If London wasn’t so ridiculously expensive I would love to live there, going to the pub for a pint is a great way to spend an evening.

Amsterdam – I knew this would be the highlight of the trip, I’d heard a lot of stories about what we should do and where to go in Amsterdam.   To be fair there is a lot of cool stuff to do if sex drugs aren’t your thing …. we did go visit Anne Franks house, and the Rijksmuseum which has about 1000 Van Gogh and Rembrandt paintings.  But my favorite museum was the Heineken Experience which lovingly tells the story of Hollands favorite beer with interactive displays.  As you make your way through the “museum” there are 3 different pubs where you get to sample the beer.
The nightlife in Amsterdam is amazing, we went to Boom Chicago which is an improv comedy club.  I was surprised how everyone in Holland spoke English, and the Dutch have no accent.  It sounds a bit American and a bit English, but I would have a hard time spotting a Dutchman.
I wanted to check out a coffee house in Amsterdam, but I was not planning on trying any drugs.  We went into a coffee house on the first night & they had a menu of what you could buy – they had cookies and brownies and doughnuts, and hashie milkshakes.   I tried a brownie, it was supposed to be the equivalent of 2 joints.  I think I was more influenced from the jug of beer we had at boom Chicago.   On our second night in Amsterdam we decided to get a gram of marijuana.  I’m not an expert but it was good stuff.  Amsterdam has to be one of the most interesting places, the people dress like Vogue models.  The red light district was not as sleazy as I expected, it seemed pretty touristy actually.   I was surprised when Jamie suggested we go see a live sex show, I was happy to try anything & everything we could on our trip. It was just regular sex, a guy & a girl, 2 lesbians and then a jungle woman with triple-D boobs having sex with a guy in a gorilla suit.  It was something fun to do as a one-off, but I don’t think it would be something you would do every week, like instead of going to the movies you would catch a sex show.
On our last night in Amsterdam we met up with the rest of our Contiki group.  There were 50 people in our group, mostly Australians & New Zealanders and some South Africans, Canadians, Americans.  There were a couple of Brazilians and Tawainese too, so it was a good mix of people.

Munich – we were all pretty hung over when we left Amsterdam at 6am to drive to Munich, Germany.  Our tour guide was Rachel, a cool chick from New Zealand, she basically talked to us like a school teacher & told us we would have to stay with the group & leave when she told us or they’d leave without us.  We arrived in Munich at about 4PM, just in time to go see the Glockinspeil.  Rachel told us it was the highlight of Munich … basically it’s a huge cuckoo clock. It went for 10 minutes, and there were literally 1000s of people watching.  When the clock finally stopped chiming we went for a tour of Munchen.  In the middle of the city is a park where office workers go & sit and eat their lunch and take their clothes off … it was a nudist park!  We went to a beer hall in Munich for dinner, the very one where Hitler used to go to give some of his famous speeches.   German food is pretty good, the main course was literally just a pork leg … no vegetables, no side dish, just meat!  I had 2 steins with my dinner so I don’t remember miuch else happening in Munich, except back at the hotel half the group went to bed & half the group went to the bar for another drink.  Jamie and I met a local Munchen man who offered to buy us a drink, cos he enjoyed speaking English and just wanted to talk to us …. ahh ok we went to bed pretty quickly then.   We drove to Switzerland the next morning, but we did make a stop at the Dacchau concentration camp, they turned the original buildings into a museum. I have to respect Germany for not trying to cover up their darkest chapter in history.

Geneva / Lucerne / Zurich – the trip itinerary was very full, we spent a lot of time each day on the bus traveling to our next destination.  We arrived in Zurich at lunch time, it’s the one city in Europe that looked exactly how I expected & was looking forward to explore it.  Too bad Rachel gave us 30 minutes to see the city & have lunch …. just enough time to grab a McSwiss burger.  The Swiss Alps were beautiful and I definitely want to go back with my snowboard.  It was funny seeing the Australians and South Africans get excited about seeing snow for the first time.  In Lucerne we saw a yodeling demonstration and had a traditional Swiss dinner.  But the highlight of Lucerne was the hotel, which was basically overtaken by our group.  It’s where the group really bonded, and I leant heaps of new drinking games.

Cannes / Nice / Monaco – it was a long drive from Lucerne to Cannes, with a short stop in Zurich.  When Rachel gave the group the choice of having a quiet night at the camping grounds or going to Monaco we unanimously voted for Monaco.  Jamie & I were dressed up to hit the Grand Royale casino …. I wanted to order a vodka martini, Jamie wanted to bet 10∍ on black.  There was a 20∍ cover charge to enter the Grand Royale, so we hit the mini-casino next door.  Jamie was insistent that he was going to gamble in Monaco so he put 10∍ in the giant slot machine … and won 950∍! Back in Antibes we got a bottle of vodka to celebrate.  The funniest moment of the trip was in Monaco when Rachel pointed out Prinicess Stephanie’s palace to us, and Aussie Dave yelled out ‘jeez its bloody nice hey, I thought my house was nice but this is bloody beautiful!’.  We got to spend the next day in Cannes, you feel like a schmuck seeing all the sports cars and huge yachts and villas.  The only other interesting thing that happened in Cannes was a guy in our group nearly got arrested for taking photos of topless women on the beach.  There was a circus with lots of carnival rides next to the campgrounds where we were staying.  After a few beers a bunch of us went on the giant drop, it wasn’t until we got to the top when Derrick reminded everyone about the 13 year old girl who lost her feet on the same ride.  But we survived and went back to the huts for more beer and card games.

Barcelona  -  Spain was the last stop on our contiki trip.  I’ve always thought that Italy has the worlds most beautiful women, but Spain is a serious challenger to the title.  The architecture in Spain was amazing.   It was the groups last night & we went to a flamenco demonstration & to a nightclub which was I was looking forward to doing for the whole trip.  I tried Sangria in Barcelona, which was pretty smooth so I drank more and more.  Maybe it was the alcohol but everybody was pretty emotional about it being our last night, a bunch of us are planning on reuniting for another contiki trip next year.

Paris – Jamie & I flew to Paris the next morning .  Air travel in Europe is realy cheap, our tickets were $30, the same that it costs me to get a train to Toronto!  I’d been to Paris twice before & Jamie had been a bunch of times before too. We had 3 nights in Paris and Jamiie said he wanted to blow his 950 winnings from Monaco on a fancy hotel, but we eventually decided to stay at a hostel.  We got a room at the Woodstock, a pretty famous hotel near the Sacre de Couer.  We’d planned on doing a lot in Paris,, but we were both pretty knackered, so we ended up going to the Louvre and Les Invalides.  We met a Scottish guy at the Woodstock who spoke fluent French and he & Jamie explored the Latin Quarter.  I thought the Parisiens were pretty rude, but I would have been disappointed if they weren’t.  We got kicked out of out hotel room at 10:30 (they have a rule you’re not allowed in your room between 10:30 and 5), and our room got flooded from the sun roof that was left open.   Our last night in Paris was the best night of the trip, we were planning on a having a few quiet beers at the Woodstock, but the bar was full of tourists participating in a drinking Olympics.

It was one of the most frequently asked questions this season….
"What is the name of the song behind Niklas Bystrom his videopart in Sample Me and who the f*ck sings it ! "

Those who were able to find out themselves kept it secret and those who did not…....

Well to avoid anymore physical damage or worse we hereby present you… SUPERSCI

What do you get when a big city phenomena like hip hop grows root in a landscape of vast northern forests?
The answer is Supersci – classical hip hop aesthetics mixed with Northern melancholy.

Supersci, also known as Superscientifiku, have made a name for themselves as the jazziest constellation in Swedish hip hop. Their soulful music has one foot in the american east coast hiphop of the 90's and the other one firmly planted in swedish jazz and folktone tradition. The texts are smart and cunning, and blend melancholy with humour in a laid back way.

Limes Are Good

Okay, I mean, seriously. They are good. Here's what I do:

1. Slice the lime into 4 sections, starting from one side, then working clockwise across the circumference of the lime. (If you didn't understand that, JUST CUT THE LIME UP!)

2. Squeeze the lime into a cup. I prefer a small plastic cup.

3. Wash your hands with soap and dip your fingers into the juice.

4. Add proportionally-sized amount of salt.

5. Get ready.

6. Chug it all up as fast as you can.

7. Feel the burn of your esophagus.

8. Lick any remaining juice from the cup (this is where the small comes into play. You should be able to stick your tougue all the way to the bottom of the cup, too be able to lick every remaining amount of juice)

Delicious!

I also met this guy online who likes to eat limes. Well, actually I think they were lemons. We had this big argument about which is better? lemon or lime? Of course, I sided with lime. This is how he does it:

1. Peel the lime (OR LEMON *angry smiley here*)

2. Slice up the meat of the lime into small little chunks.

3. (Optional) Get a small bowl or plate and pour a tiny amount of salt on it.

4. Pop them in your mouth.

5. Feel the burn! Oh, yeah!

Good thing about this method is that you don't need a cup and you don't need to lick anything. Still, I think lime is much, much, much, much, better than lemons. Lemons are like... ecchk! Yuck! If you're too lazy, buy those plastic limes (or lemons) from concentrate. But I don't recommend it. It's not as healthy!

Speaking of that, not only are limes delicious, they are healthy for you! They have that kick to them that makes you jump up, but the aftertaste is sweet, especially when you add some salt. You can basically do anything with limes. They are the main ingredient of cooking! Without limes (or lemons), food would have no flavor, except with some salt. Unless you're eating Japanese food or something.

Apparently, it's healthy to eat food that is not flavored with salt of spices. That's why Japanese people live so long. Their colons are quite healthy! Although, I think Japanese restaurants in America are quite delicious. I LOVE JAPANESE THOUGH! It tastes great! Soy sauce is my best friend. How did we get from limes to Japanese food? Hmm... now that’s what you call a mindless rant. How did we ever get here? Geez! Let's go back to limes now.

Actually, I have nothing more to say about limes... they are very good and healthy though. Well, I guess that concludes this rant. EAT LIMES AND PROSPER WITH YOUR HAIR!

--------------------------------------------------------

RunEscape?!?! WTF?!

That is correct. Run. Escape. WTF?! So, anyways, here's to the story. I play a lot of RuneScape, right? In case you didn't know, RuneScape is a MMORPG game, a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. It's great fun for a while. But anyways, I've been playing so much that my parents started to get suspicious and asked me all these questions about it. What is the purpose of this game? What do you gain from playing this? LET'S STUDY FOR THE SAT FIRST BEFORE YOU PLAY! DO SOMETHING BETTER WITH YOUR TIME! LET'S PRESENT IT AT MY COMPUTER ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING CONFERENCE IN JAPAN (yes, here comes Japan again) THIS SUMMER! Gah! sorry... where was I?

Ah, yes. So, I told my parents about the game and they asked me, what is it called? Runes-Cape? I corrected them with Rune-Scape! I mean, what is with that? The R and the S were so obviously capitalized (RuneScape), showing the start of the syllables! Okay, so they finally got it right for once. But they forgot. Oh, yes, they forgot! They kept calling it "game". "Stop play game!", "No game!", "DIE SPAZ MUFFIN PICKLE!" *cough*

So finally, they started using the name of "game". Which is RuneScape. Unfortunately... RUN ESCAPE?!?! WTF?! RUN. ESCAPE. GAH! Why do you old people never understand the terrible pain you have caused me with your anachronistic knowledge?! Yes, like I said, God invented dictionary.com so look it up. It infuriorates me! I am very angry. RuneScape. DO YOU NOT SEE THE BOLDED CAPITAL LETTERS? WHAT, ARE YOU BLIND?! No, I'm sorry I don't mean that, my beautiful, beloved parents.

But I bet some of your parents probably, at one point in time, if they ever heard of it, called it that. It's funny really, because there are a few ways you can split up "RuneScape" into syllables so that they actually spell out words. Rune-Scape, for one. Then there's Runes-Cape. And of course, the horribly dreaded RUN-ESCAPE! Gah I might as well collapse and die if anyone says that again. And my parents are English teachers! How could they not know how to pronounce a simple word like that? Rune! Scape! HOW HARD CAN THAT BEEEEEEEEE?!?! OH THE PAIN, THE INHUMANITY! (as Double-D from Ed, Edd, and Eddy say)

Anyways, that sums up my rant on... dun dun dun... RUN ESCAPE. Omgz it kills me to say that. But of course I'm not dead. Yet. Dun dun dun... a lot of people know where I live. And they are not exactly the sane type of people... oh godz, NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------

I Don't Snowboard

Seriously, I don't. I probably can if you give me a board and 3 months. I'm very athletic, ya know. I once threw a backpack across the bus and hit someone on the head, intentionally. I don't want to talk about it... =(. I DIDN'T MEAN IT I AM SO SORRY WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE THAT WAY!??! GAAAAAAAAAAH!

Anyone have a Kleenex? Oh, I have a box right here. I have a cold, you see. On the last day of school, we went to a state park for a field trip. I have another thought, but that will have to wait. The park had a natural waterfall and lots of kids were playing in it. I, not planning to swim, did not bring a bathing suit. Or a towel for that matter. But I wanted to swim. So, I took out my keys, iPod (an article about this coming up on the next edition), Sharpies, etc. out of my pocket and stuffed them in my backpack.

So, I waded across the water, only planning to get half of my body wet (the lower half). Anyways, considering that it was a natural waterfall, there were lots of rocks. Good thing I had sandals on eh? Bad idea. They did not offer enough support for me and I tripped on the rocks. Let's just say they (the sandals) can't curve around rocks the way my feet can. So, I was totally drenched, head in the water, ears clogged up with dirt. But I thought, now that I'm wet, who cares?

I jumped out of the water and started heading for the waterfall. I dramatically took my glasses off, holding them to the side, away from the water. I then put my head right under the water. Ahhhh, it was so refreshing. Unfortunately, since I had no towel, I was completely drenched for the next hour we were there, as well as the half-hour on the bus ride home. And well, that's how I got the cold.

Wasn't this rant about why I don't snowboard? Hmm. Well, back to that then. I don't snowboard.

--------------------------------------------------------

Closing Remarks

I would like to say, thank you for reading this issue and thanks for all of your support (not... yet.). It was very fun writing all of this and it got me almost 20,000 keystrokes on my WhatPulse (whatpulse.org! joinz!), which should propel me to a 2nd place rank in my team. I hope. Probably not, I haven't even checked there in ages.

Please contact me if you would like to help out with iRant! I can't keep on ranting by myself like this, it would get boring. Speaking of that, I would also like to thank boredom for all of its support, as without it, I would have never even thought about ranting. Then again, I rant all the time in my head. Half the time I don't even know what I'm ranting about. I just have random thoughts, ya know. Yea.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this first issue of the iRant. And as I have said before, live long and prosper with your hair!

"America is shifting to a 'green culture,' with more and more businesses understanding that environmental responsibility is everyone's responsibility, By switching to alternative, renewable power sources, PepsiCo is proving that going green can be the choice of every generation." --said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson

Green power is produced from renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. These energy sources are considered cleaner and have a superior environmental profile than conventional sources of electricity. Purchasing RECs helps drive the development of additional renewable energy capacity nationwide.

With some $30 trillion to be invested in energy production over the next 30 years, making the right low-carbon investments is one of the keys to fighting climate change. Carbon offsets help put a price on the climate change consequences of these investment decisions, and if properly structured can help move a portion of that $30 trillion investment into clean energy. While a lot of that investment will be in the developing world, some of it will be domestic. Demand for new power continues to rise in the US. It is our hope that carbon offsets can help new domestic energy be as clean as possible.

and man was it amazing. i had such an awesome time, met so many great people and relaxed my ass off. ate delicious food (and some not so delicious food... damn misleading buffets!) every day, enjoyed the sunshine and the BEACH. oh man, the beach.

miles and miles of sand and sun and more sand. and pretty much deserted, as we were at the only resort within the area. there were coral reefs just offshore, and so we spent lots of time snorkelling around them. saw some interesting corals and fish, and we even met a spear fisherman trailing a long line of fish, strung through their gills. every morning after breakfast we'd walk along the beaches... through the mangroves, and wading through the shallows, swimming whenever we felt like it. there was always a game of beach volleyball going on that we could join in, then at noon it was time to learn the merengue on the beach.

after merengue lessons it was aerobics time, when we got to watch muscly men in spandex shorts run on the spot and hump thin air while we ran on the spot and humped thin air right along with them. (this was before we discovered stretching class with eryn's favourite perv-recipient)

after lunch, it was nap (siesta) time. i don't know who the brilliant person was who invented siesta time, but i owe him/her a HUGE thank you. with the siesta i was able to play volleyball and swim all afternoon, and last all night on the dance floor.

about five times a day, we'd hear the resort theme song, and be coerced into dancing the choreography to the song. the entertainment staff (some of the cutest girls and boys i've ever seen) was great at convincing everyone we really wanted to dance, and not only dance, but sing along with the song. by the end both eryn and i had the choreography down pat, even if we did miss a few of the thrusts due to bad timing. what can i say, uncoordination runs in the family.

speaking of the entertainment staff, they are the ones who kept us going, and who made our stay so amusing. eryn and i would walk around the pool, and as soon as one of them saw us, they'd shout "SEESTERS!" and we'd be talked into a round of bocce ball, sandal flipping, volleyball, ping pong... you name it, we did it. and at night, the whole family would be out, and we'd get called up as "seesters and mami and papi!". made it like one big family. and i am proud to say we met an italian man named fabio! what a fantastic name! we'd never met a fabio before... fabio. he was a good dancer too. and almost as crazy as eryn and i. and without further ado, may i introduce the one and only, FABIO!

for the first three days of our stay it was sunny and warm and beautiful. for the fourth day it was rainy and warm and beautiful. day number five was mixed sun and cloud and warm and beautiful. days six and seven were more of the same. are we seeing a pattern here!? warm and beautiful!!!! it was great. even on the cloudy days we could wear bikinis around, which i'm sure the old men at the resort appreciated.

one of our days we spent on a "jeep safari". we took an open bus through the backroads of the dominican, into the interior. we saw a lot of the dominican people, their houses, their ways of life, their children. most of the people travel by motorbike/dirtbike. quite a few by donkey/horse, and more by SUV/4WD. makes sense, since the roads are pretty crappy. we did a lot of bouncing around in the jeep, and seatbelts were useful and mandatory. we stopped at a rubber production ... house. there was rubber hanging everywhere to dry, and a press to thin it out. the children gave us flowers and wanted to be in every picture we took. i had one young boy so intrigued by my camera that he spent ten minutes watching the display screen and comparing it to what was really in front of him. and whenever i went to take a picture of something, he ran to be in the shot. after that, we travelled through the jungle some more, through streams and over hills, to a farm. there we sampled the local produce, and my god was it delicious. fresh fruits, cocoa beans, coffee, coconut... i'd never had fresh fresh coconut before, and man was it tasty. i could've eaten that and nothing else for the rest of the trip, but then i'd have been pooping constantly, because fresh coconut is probably the best laxative out there. i mean.... girls don't poop. right. anyways. we had hot chocolate made directly from cocoa beans, i dont know what they put in it, but i felt like i was in heaven. then it was bananas covered in grated cocoa and honey made from coffee flowers. damn, i'm drooling just writing about this. ok, time to move on... let's just say, dominican food rocks!

after another drive, we stopped at a ranch for lunch, where we witnessed a cockfight. now, the roosters just pecked at each other, and the ranchers didn't let them kill each other, but it's a national sport so to expose us tourists to the culture, it was deemed necessary. i thought it was interesting, my dad was disgusted. there ya go. our tour guide warned us not to eat too much at lunch, because we were off to the beach next for a walk and a swim. it was an awesome beach, full of volcanic rocks and even more sand. plus the surf was up high, so it made for some fun wading around as we had to wait for the wave to recede before we could get around the rocks! after the beach it was on to the waterfall, where most of us enjoyed a short walk (i heard one of the older ladies complaining - she was rather large) to the river. we all cooled off in the water under the fall, and a local boy jumped into the pool from 40 feet up a tree. finally it was time to return to the resort, after a long day. it was an eye opener to be sure, seeing more of the less well-off areas of the island. the one thing that stuck out for me was how happy everyone was. not just the children, but the adults smiled and waved as the bus went past. there didn't seem to be any resentment towards foreigners, and i thought that was pretty special.

on the day we walked to the closest town, las terrenas, it poured rain on us. during the downpour, a taxi stopped in front of us, offering us a lift. as we only had enough for the taxi ride home, we declined, but he insisted he was going to las terrenas anyways, and he would take us there for free. i thought that was pretty cool of him, he wanted to chat and practise his english. eryn and i met another man like that on our very first day. he was sitting on the beach above the high tide mark, and he beckoned us over. initially i thought he was a beach vendor, but he just wanted to "talk english" with us.

at the resort, the entire staff was also very friendly and helpful. i know the entertainment crew were paid to be so, but it wasn't just them, and everyone seemed genuine in their happiness to be with the guests. every night at dance time, the staff would walk through the seated guests, picking them at random to dance with. it encouraged everyone to get up and dance and practise their newly learned merengue moves. eryn even graciously accepted me as her steady dance partner! we had fun with it, and other guests told us how much they'd enjoyed watching the two of us dance together. whether that was just the fact that they liked seeing two girls dancing together or whether we actually pulled off dancing as a couple, i don't know. either way, it was fun, and i'd go back any day! i just wish it wasn't an 8 hour plane ride to get there.

PS to anyone thinking of going there: sunscreen and lip balm are your friends. your bestest of best friends!

Infection in my mind you burn a fever inside of me
I want to take you on a test drive, I can start you with my key
But there's one more thing about you that my X-ray eyes can see
I know just as soon as ya think ya can, you gonna walk all over me

I don't want to need ya, I don't want to need ya
I just wanna see ya, I don't wanna be ya
I don't wanna need ya, I just wanna see ya
I don't wanna need ya, I just wanna see ya
I don't wanna neeeeeeeeed, yeh yehe yeh!

You slip me your sweet poison till your runnin through my veins
Pherimones and sexy clothes and body melt my brain
You give me your free samples, pretty soon I'll have to pay
Then I turn around I don't know up from down, I say you're Godamn all the same
I don't wanna need you, I don't wanna need you...

All my life it seems I venture down that twisting road
Every time I turn around there's someone feedin on my soul
If someone finds a cure I hope they'll surely let me know
Cause they batt their eyes and they shake those thighs and I lose my self control
I don't want to need ya, I don't want to need ya...

This is to everyone trying to do what's right, and those who try to scam them.
(exp.  Graphic Designers being paid $15 /hr)

Many entry level jobs start at $15 per hour. Working as an alcohol sample demonstrator in liquor stores you can make $15 per hour. Serving food and drinks with tips? That's definately more. I'm not saying anyone is more important than anyone else. It's just the investment of time must be rewarded in a way that is sustainable, no matter what your job is.
It's absolutely RIDICULOUS to think it's right to pay graphic designers $15 per hour when asking for these qualifications! My 2 year graphic design diploma tuition costs $25,000. My classmates and I spend 8 hours in class and then have hours of homework and mostly have to work as well (I had 3 jobs at once!). The computer programs we we work with are some of the most complex to master and evolve rapidly, requiring constant learning. There is a long list of attributes and skills one must possess to be a quality designer.
My dream is to live in a way which I feel is minimally harmful and which utilizes my natural artistic ability. I'll work hard and I'm not greedy. If that's seen by employers as wrong, then I see a society which is failing.
