(Saint-Sauveur, April 5, 2008) – Mont-Tremblant native Charles Reid has won the 2008 Empire

Shakedown grand finale, presented this Saturday at Mont Saint-Sauveur.  In addition to honours, the 17

year old snowboarder also won himself $15 000 in prize money.

Empire Shakedown is one of the premium snowboarding events in the world - classed in the top five by

the snowboarding industry.  This year’s competition also had two other Quebecois boarders climb onto the

podium, namely Sébastien Toutant, a 15 year old boarder from Lanaudière, and Sherbrook’s Antonin

Chamberland.  Chamberland was in fact one of only two amateur snowboarders to take part in the finals,

the other being Saint-Sauveur’s Matt Kulisek.

In total, 35 professional and 3 amateur snowboarders participated in the event; the finals saw the 15 best

athletes retained for a showdown.

‘I’m very excited to have won, it was a fantastic day, and the conditions were ideal for snowboarding – we

could have even competed in fleece and t-shirts!  I think the moves I really succeeded with, the front side

1080 and the back side 270 were what won me the competition.  I don’t really know what to do with the

$15 000 prize money, but for the moment, its going to the bank.  One thing is certain; I will be ready for

Shakedown 2009.’  explained an elated Reid.

Empire Shakedown is a unique competition among competitions, requiring that athletes master two

different snowboarding disciplines (the AMP booter jump, followed by the rail) in a jam format (unique to

the Shakedown).

Additionally, during the VANS Skateboarding half-time show and competition, Thomas Parent won top

honours and a money prize of $2 000.

An estimated 20 000 people have been present for the competition which has taken place over the past

two days.  ‘The level of competition is very high and the boarders have been extremely creative; some

jumps we’ve never even seen before.   The ambiance was incredible, especially today with the beautiful

weather we’re experiencing’ commented Brendan O’Dowd, President of DIZZLE Productions Inc, and one

of the Empire Shakedown’s organizers.

Qualifying rounds of Shakedown went down yesterday at Mont Saint Sauveur, as expected the crew from Empire continue to step it up.

Out of 80 riders, Adam Chuntz from Ontario took home first place wining an all expenses paid trip to Super Park in Colorado from Snowboarder Magazine.

Gabriel Mercier-Drouin rounded up second and with such tight competition Alexandre Ferland and Fred Lacroix both got on the podium sharing third place.

okay this post is really random but anyway! my goal for this season would be to practice a lot so I can be able to go at the Shakedown contest, in Mont Saint-Sauveur. the best that can happen would be getting sponsored, but it's not given to evryone. If it happen then it would be really sick since I really love snowboard and I like to travel a lot.

It's that time of year again, The Empire Shakedown (aka the biggest pro contest in the east of Canada) is going down this weekend @ Saint Sauveur. The competitors list is insane: MFM, Jeremy Jones, Eddie Wall, Chris Dufficy, Mikey LeBlanc, Justin Benee, Justin Hebbel, Darrel Mathes, Cory Cronk, and it goes on for days. Most of the sickest urban style riders are set to throw down.
Gonna take the boys up (since i score a pile of tix from the Sobe Arush contest) and ride in the morning and snap a shi*teload of pics of the competition. It's gonna be bonkers!

Saint-Sauveur is located 45 minutes North of Montreal Quebec, which is Canada’s mainly French-speaking province. It has the largest mountains in the Eastern portion of the country and is deep in talented rippers. Quebec has been producing some of the top names in snowboarding for a long time and we had a chance to see the next generation of talent. The future looks bright!

I found this on someone else's profile...I thought it was cool.

I just got back from Nationals on Mont. Avila in Saint Sauveur, Quebec. It was soooo fun. It was pretty crazy though. The day before Jr. Nationals I got really sick, and I woke up in the morning, and I could barely breath, and then I looked down and my snowboard before I left, and it seemed as if I broke my Custom X and my coach had to lend me his Jussi and I got to do 2 runs on it before I dropped into my contest run, and because I had such a bad morning I thought I was gonna fall and die, but I ended up doing way better then I thought I would. Its just like Senior Nationals, I didnt think I was gonna do good at all, but I stomped both my runs, I was pretty happy. It was such a good trip. I wanna go back. They had some goood poutine! Hahahaha. And now that everything is closed I'm not going to see anybody til next year. Oh well, I'm not to worried, now its summer time. Time to pull out the old skateboard.
