URBAN RAIL JAM MISSION CRESCENDOES IN TORONTO

TRIP FOR WHISTLER UP FOR GRABS:

SATURDAY MARCH 3, DUNDAS SQUARE

February 27, 2007 – Whistler, BC – After stompeding into the heart of Calgary on Saturday 17, then grinding out in downtown Montreal on Saturday 24, the Old Spice Experience Rail Tour is about to take it to the rails in downtown Toronto on March 3.

Old Spice has joined forces with Whistler’s biggest festival to bring the mountain to the masses with the cross-country launch of the Old Spice Experience Rail Tour.

From 3:30 until 8:30pm on Saturday 3 March, Dundas Square is the scene of the showdown, where the “steeze” of the big mountain meets the streetscape of Toronto’s Dundas Square.

Trucked-in snow, a custom-constructed rail, and the best pro snowboarders will create the ultimate show as riders compete for the top prize – a cash purse to be peer-judged.

The tour will culminate with the Old Spice Snowboarding Classic in Whistler at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, April 13-22 2007.

Visitors to the Toronto chapter of the tour can take the Old Spice Experience Training from 3:30pm, and earn a chance to WIN the ultimate snowboarding trip for two to Whistler, BC during the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

Participating pro-riders include Geoff Brown, Andrew Skelhorn, Andrew Rusk, Jonathon Rusk, Morgan Parker, Nick Harlos, Brad Gauley, Corey Gallon, Aaron Shapiro, Jeremy Cloutier, Kyle Lutes, Ryan Caesar, Mikey Walker, Tom Derry, Steve Powling, Ryan Helstern, Brody P, Kevin Konnings, Matt Konnings, and Zach Stone.

The 3rd Annual Jib Jamboree went off last Friday without a hitch. People cam from all corners of the province, the stage was set for what would turn out to be London’s gateway into the 07 season. With the top rail riders set, the Rusk brothers, Brad Gauler, Max Thompson, Natalie Gough and Danielle Brown we all knew we were in for something special, something that happens only few times.

They battled each other for hours oooiing and aahing the London faithful in the IM Park parking lot behind Jim Bob Ray’s. The public unleashed their raw never before seen talent on the crowd battling for the 5 spots available to get into the money. Our gracious sponsors had put up $500 for the best rider of the night, $300 for the DC best trick and $200 for the Nikita Women’s session.

About two weeks before he event Spy put up head to toe Spy product for 2 lucky winners and their friends. With three days too go names were drawn, Robbin Smith and Emily Pool were showered with gifts from Spy and got too watch the event from the VIP patio. Thanks to everyone for entering.

After a night of scavenger hunts, a free barbecue, hand stands and hot music the big boys and girls hit the stage. The show that the crowd had come for. The Nikita Women’s session was heated with Natalie, Laura Duke, Marie Noelle-Legere and Victoria Marshall all neck and neck to the last second. Valerie ended up sticking her nose in front right at the finish line and grabbing the cash in the Nikita Women’s session. In the lads category the judges had chosen 12 riders they had to call their trick and go head to head with another dude. Sudden Death Style!! It got down to the final three and they jammed for 20 minutes, Max Thompson, Andrew Rusk and Corey Gallon opened a can on London for the 3rd annual Jib Jamboree staking their claim for the very first champion. Max ended up taking the best rider of the night, I’m pretty sure he didn’t fall once. Andrew Rusk took down the DC best trick.

Thanks too everyone who came out despite the weather. Check out all the photos and videos from Rothphoto and Hightide Productions at www.jibjamboree.com

Cheers

Sounds like Andrew Rusk had a not average weekend...

So Friday night Jon and I went down to London for the Jib Jamboree put on by Eventsing.  The evening went swell.  We rode, we went to the after party, I got best trick, yipee hooray.  Then we decided to make the trek home.  Well we got ourselves a parking ticket, fine no biggie.  Then, about 5 min from the highway, I notice a cop car has been tailing us for a few of blocks.  We come to stop at a traffic light and out of nowhere another cop car skids in front us, the guy behind us pulls in tight on our ass, another car boxes us in from the left and another car blocks out the rest of the intersection.  The lights are blaring and a whole crap load of cops have completely surrounded us yelling at us to get out of the truck with our hands up.  I believe it was "HANDS UP! GET THE F**K OUT OF THE CAR! HANDS UP! HANDS UP!!!".  My brother was dragged off to the car that slid in front us while I got manhandled by 3 other cops.  I was thrown up against the cop car that blocked us in from the driverside handcuffed, searched and put in the back of the car which was behind us.  "Your under arrest for the possession of stolen property, you have the right to call a lawyer..."  These cops think they have got themselves a nice bust on their hands, well unfortunately for them they are terribly wrong.  You see a few years ago while at the Canadian Nationals in St Sauveur we had our brand new 2003 Chevy Avalanche stolen right out of our hotel parking lot the first night we were there.  We even watched it drive away on the security recording.  Well after that was all straightened out we got a new truck, a 2004, and our plates re-issued.  Well it seems that when you run the plates the stolen trucks VIN is still in the computer due to the fact it has never been recovered.  This has caused us a few problems before but never to this extent.  So after explaining everything to the officers and having them do their final checks it was all cleared and we were released.  As a parting gesture one officer even said "well at least you will have something to talk about at your Christmas party".  Ha ha, yeah no kidding (f**kin dick).  After they cleared the scene we pulled into a gas station to clear our heads and call/text everyone.  shi*t those cuffs were tight, like so tight they almost drew blood.

So that was our adventure last night we feel like real thugs now.  Ah well time to spend the winnings and get new plates hahaha.

It’s always nice to find something in the mail box that’s useful. Everyday we get bills and junk mail, so whenever the new SCB mag arrives, I’m sure it brings that added pleasure to bathrooms across the nation.   Here's a few things you find between the pages:

 - Keith Martin and Andrew Rusk let you know what their favorite TV show is in Random Information pg.59

-  Dennis Bannock show us how to perfectly execute a tree jib, 270 out in Technique pg. 90

- Molly Milligan and Andrew Rusk both have Who Dat? Sections pg.124 & pg. 132

- Aaron Shapiro talks about his Catboarding trip to Baldface Lodge in the Luxury On Track Article pg.178

You can also check out the SBC Resort Guide which covers 70+ resorts, with Andrew Skelhorn popping up multiple times with airs from coast to coast.

Well Aug 4th marked the second of two rail jams this summer in Blue Mountains Village.  The setup remained the same with a few minor tweaks to the in-run.  There was a handful of RUSKfilm riders out to impress including Brad Gauley, Cory Gallon, Jon Rusk, Andrew Skelhorn and Andrew Rusk.  The DC best trick went to Gauley for a nollie over 270 lipslide SO SICK! The overall title for the night went to Andrew Rusk putting a second win in his pocket.  Congratulations homies!

Mr. Laverty letting everyone know just what exactly is being thrown down by the riders.  With the occasional spout of humor of course.

JDub Rusk and his bloody bow.  Jon spent 8 hours in the emergency room waiting to get stitches for that gash.

Brad is awesomely awesome.  Good shreddin buddy!

Ruska himself switchin it up for the cash.

Thanks to Eventsing and Skool for a super fun night.

On July 15th the Village of Blue Mountain hosted The Village Street Beat Festival.  Two days of everything to hit the street including live bands, DJ’s, graffiti art displays, break dancing competitions, freestyle moto-x, a mini rail comp and skateboarding comp.
A few RUSKfilm riders were there anxious to to strap in even in the blistering heat.  The setup consisted of a mini down rail and riders were casually judged as to who threw down.  After all the sweat and smelling like a barn from all the hay Andrew Rusk came out on top.  Kevin Konings took second and there was a tie for third between Jon Rusk and Matt Konings.  The Rusk and Konings brothers sweep the podium!
