Whistler Blackcomb's annual Showcase Showdown went off last Saturday as onlookers crowded into Skiers' Plaza and onto patios to watch the action at the base of Whistler Mountain. After a hard fought battle, Caley Vanular claimed first place in the women's category. Second place went to Molly Milligan and third went to Janelle Prtichard. Meanwhile, Andrew Burns took first in the men's category, while Rusty Ockeneden claimed second place and Mike Osachuk took third.

The six riders, who won a total of $5,000 cash and prizes from event sponsors, including Nixon headphones and Sandbox helmets, will also be featured in Sandbox's next snowboard film "Shine On."

In its twelfth year, the Showcase Showdown has enjoyed another successful transformation and has proven once again why Whistler Blackcomb's Nintendo Terrain Parks are ranked No. 1 in North America.

This year's course was inspired by the mini-parks in locals' backyards all over Whistler. The slopestyle course design, which included rails and industrial-style jib features with happy faces, was a collaboration of Showcase Team Manager Brad Broughton; Kevin Sansalone of Sandbox Films; Steve Petrie master park-builder and designer and builder of the 2010 Olympic Halfpipe; and Whistler Blackcomb's Park Rangers.

Whistler Blackcomb’s Showcase Showdown is back Saturday, February 28 with a new format; the Backyard Slopestyle. Inspired by the mini-parks in locals’ backyards all over Whistler, the Showdown will blow the scene up with a snowboard slopestyle at the base of Whistler Mountain. Despite the larger venue and cash prizes on the line, the chill vibe of the backyard throwdown will remain.


The top three men and women will feature in Sandbox’s next snowboard film “Shine On,” and $5000 cash and prizes from event sponsors including Nixon headphones are up for grabs.


The Women’s competition will take place from 9am to 11am. The Men’s competition will start at 11am with Finals starting around 4pm.


Athlete Registration Information

Athletes can register in person at any Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations desk. Registration is $50+GST per rider and is open to 60 men and 20 women. Competitor’s check in will take place on Friday, February 27 at the Village Showcase Snowboards from 5-7pm.

******Helmets and bibs are mandatory for all runs including practice.

Hey just thought i'd promote the rail jam being put on by the City of Revelstoke tomorrow (Feb 7). There's an amateur class and open(Pro) class for skiers and snowboarders. Ams have the opportunities to win gear prizes etc, while there's $5000 cash up for grabs in the pro category! Helmets are mandatory!

Another Season of Mountain Madness Mondays is about to start. And to kick it off we are hosting a very special edition of Mountain Madness on Thursday Nov. 6th.
Alterna Films will be holding the Vancouver Premiere of "Knock Out", their tenth  snowboarding feature at the Royal in HD. Tickets are available at Second Wave board shop in North Vancouver. From 6^th to 13^th of April 2008 Kühtai hosted the BAGJUMP SpringBreak08 Snowboard&Freeski Camp. The Film&Foto Award presented by TVB-Kühtai was an additional feature to the Camp where filmer and photographers had the chance to get the best shots from the whole resort and be rewarded with 2000Euro prize-money. Good riders had the chance to get some international coverage and present their skills. This event was a unique experience for snowboarder, freeskier, filmer- and photographer!

A perfect shaped park, the BAGJUMP MegaBag for training and 4 IOU-Special obstacles prepared for shootings throughout the backcountry. The Völkl Pro Team was here to coach and film for the Völkl-Movie the whole week and many other international Pros to get some last shots from the 2007/08 Season with over 40 international photographers and filmers around. Some lucky campers got a Völkl Sponsorship because of their amazing riding skills. The weather was like it is in April: unpredictable! As we had Snowstorms and waist deep powder for the first 3 days and fine spring slush with mostly blue sky for the rest of the SpringBreak08. Camp-Hotel Marlstein was located close by and the food was excellent with breakfast buffets in the morning and 4 course dinners in the evenings.

Campers and daily visitors had the chance to win Zimtstern, Völkl, Gravis and X-Double prizes in the everyday mini-competitions like Poker-Tournaments, Best Trick-MegaBag, Night-Sessions on the special spots and the XBOX360 Guitar Hero Madness. Due to the bad weather Saturdays SpringOFF Slopestyle Contest took place on the rails whit over 60 motivated riders giving their best to win money and prizes.

Everyone could get 2009 Boards and Skis at the Völkl Test in the chill area and test their new Board or Ski of Choice. Listening to fine tunes coming from the RedBull Event Car mixed by Dj Seren and eating at the BAGJUMP BBQ/Grill was a good chance to regain energy for riding. While watching international Pros practicing contest winning tricks into the MegaBag not only media but also the crowd and people passing by took out the camera to capture the action.

Every participating Photographer is shooting 1-6 days in the whole resort Kühtai with Snowboarders and/or Freeskiers.  Every participating photographer can hand in his/her best 5 pictures/sequences. All pictures handed in must be taken during the SpringBreak week and from the whole Resort Kühtai. Hand in deadline is Sunday the 13^th of April 5pm. The pictures will be judged by Richard Walch (professional Photographer), Sami Tuoriniemi (senior editor Onboard) and Markus Fischer (senior editor Pleasure). Every Judge can give a maximum of 50 points per picture. Winner is the Picture with the most points out of 150 and will be posted on www.BAGJUMP.com.

 

The Film Award

 

Every participating Filmer is shooting 1 to 6 days in the whole resort Kühtai with Snowboarders and/or Freeskiers.  Every participating filmer can hand in his/her best 3-Minute Video Clip. The whole Clip which is handed in must be taken during the SpringBreak week and from the whole Resort Kühtai. Hand in deadline is Sunday the 13^th of April 5pm. Mount Seymour, BC—The Volcom PBRJ back for its seventh straight season and like every year, it's a FREE, limited entry snowboard rail contest featuring some incredible rail features, FREE PB&RJ lunch, and loads of prizes.

There are four divisions; 15 & under, 16 & over, Girls and Open (pro-am).

The first two JumpCamp's rocked!


Mother nature was a real doll and gave us some killer weather and the snow conditions were soft and slushy, perfect for jumping and freeriding. Campers were stoked on all the new features in the park and all the natural terrain on Forbidden that we sessioned.




We even set up a cliff feature for some adventurous campers to launch. Campers really impressed me with their drive to learn new tricks and strengthen their riding. Tons of camper firsts went down over the course of the two sessions; First time grabs, spins, spins with grabs, inverted spins... It was insane! All the campers had a wicked time and really progressed their skills a lot. Thanks to all our sponsors and coaches for an amazing set of camps. The entry fee with a corporate pass is $30 per participant and $62 per participant for those without. Pre-register your office team at malakye.com/ob.

Event Schedule / format

*In case you’re not familiar with the Office Booyz contest please note that all obstacles are “office sized” and even more importantly, “office friendly”.

-Registration for the event will be held from 9am to 11am in front of Starbucks
-A massive on hill Coffee and Donut buffet will be available during the time of registration
-The event will run with an open jam style format
-It kicks off at noon sharp and will go till 2pm or till we’re ready to quit
-After party to be announced soon

Office Booyz is for everyone so anyone who wants to take on a prize category or get involved in anyway whatsoever feel free to hit me up at karl@iseyewear.com. The more prizes the merrier! Our usual prize theme is “Prizes for things you never thought you could win a prize for”. I have an extensive list of categories you can choose from or you can come up with a custom category which better suites your outfit..

Office furniture donations. Anyone???
