It's that time again...

That's right. Time for Vancouver's favorite Monday night party to return. This year promises to be one of our best yet. First off we had to say good-bye to the Royal, which shut it's doors in May. Lots of good times were had and we're sad to see it go. On the flip-side we're stoked to have found our new home at the METropole located at 320 Abbott St. They've gone out of their way to make us feel at home by installing a dozen HD TVs and a brand new HD projector and screen. On top that they have a full feature arcade with pool table and foosball.

We were so excited to get this season rolling that we've taken over Mondays already. The Pre-season is going on with no cover charge and $5 doubles so you can get in shape for the winter party season. The freshest beats are calling you to the dancefloor with resident elDJloco on the 1s and 2s.

Stay tuned right here for the latest party info or check us out at our blog:

Discover tomorrow’s artistic superstars. Debuting at this year’s Festival is the mutant sibling of the Pro Photographer Showdown, the ThreePointOh Multimedia Challenge. Plus, State of the Art, the Canada-wide Designer Search and Expose, and the new Chef Challenge.

Skate comes to the party. The new Festival opener, Skate & Deploy, followed by the Skate of the Art Opening party offers the perfect segue from winter to spring for fans of flow.

Day 2/30: Big Timber mission & more!

I must admit, there have been a few hurdles this season, but I am having SO much fun! I’ve started the 30 day snowboard challenge for myself and this was Day Two. It is about more than just physically and mentally pushing myself - it’s about looking at this playground in a new and different way, finding new places and doing things I haven’t done before.

I headed out early on Monday morning with my aggressive skier friend Derek - he wanted to show me a cabin in Big Timber on Whistler Mountain. It was SO cold! -21C to be exact, so I was all layered up, ready for a long day!

After coffees and chats on the Whistler Village Gondola we headed up Peak Chair and down the Peak to Creek. We cut through some perfectly spaced trees off Upper Peak to Creek and guess what?! Fresh lines! I was floating through huge old growth trees and at that moment I felt like I was somewhere completely new! After a short hike we came to the cabin in the woods. It was built in honor of a fellow rider who lost his life doing what he loved. We took a moment to enjoy - it’s so awesome finding little spots like that.

We cruised back down through the trees to the long cat track to Creekside. Again I was floating along with only a couple of tracks in front of me! The sun was shining and the views of Sprout and Rainbow mountains were amazing. I passed by Kadenwood and continued onto Lower Peak to Creek, which was a bit icy. It took at least 2 hours in total, the snow was dry and fluffy and there was not another person in sight.

After lunch we uploaded the Creekside Gondola, to Big Red Express and across PEAK 2 PEAK to end the day with a few laps in the Crystal zone. Getting fresh groomers after lunch is practically unheard of and I loved every minute of it. Nothing beats a 4pm ride out to the valley!

Keep on shredding!

New Seymour Partysnake edit

Matt Heneghan just uploaded this new Seymour Partysnake edit laced to some CNN.

Silver, Bronze, Gold, youngbrownwalsh and a fishburger.

IS Team Rider BRad Martin sent me this photo of himself on the podium with a Silver Medal around his neck at the recent world cup event held at Stoneham. Yeah Brad!

New IS team rider Janelle Pritchard (No relation to "Dean Pritchard" from the movie Oldschool) got some podium action of her own up at Whistler this weekend receiving Bronze at the Showdown. Good work Janelle! Don't blow all that loot on some fancy radio.

Hey Dave found the gold. Follow this link to a low res version of the YoungBrownWalsh vid he found on our other bud Dave's site.

Call with Kale: Kale gave me a call Sunday afternoon to share his excitement about trying out the new fishburger at Wendy's. He was like "they're using the good fish now, some delicious Alaska code or something". Then he let me go so he could place his order. I decided to call him back Today to see if the fishburgers lived up to the hype. Kale ensured me that they did and stated the new fish burgers at Wendy's actually tasted like some delicious type of fish burger you'd find at a high end fish and chips spot. I felt good about the conversation and let him go.

Events/News - Whistler Blackcomb: A week of snow & sun
By: WhistlerBlackcomb

What a week! It all started Monday morning... I opened my eyes to see something that caught me off guard; fluffy snow covering the trees outside my window! Snowphone Steve assured me there was at least 25cms of pow in the alpine, so after a flurry of phone calls to friends, I headed up the hill.

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE powder days, but it's always such a scramble! We had a tough time sticking together in a group of 5 with 3 snowboarders and 2 skiers. We all met up doing a couple of Jersey Cream laps, getting fresh lines and face shots on Cougar Milk. Pretty much all of the alpine was still closed for Avi-control, so we chose to line up at Crystal Chair. We waited and waited... Some trouble maker in the line started throwing snowballs and that was it, a full on snowball war ensued! Our group decided to bail and go riding and it opened after we left! ALWAYS stick with the lift line you choose, that was my lesson of the day.

Over the next couple days the skies opened up and puked a whopping 84cms! My next day to ride was Thursday, so I headed up for a cruise and I couldn't believe it, blue bird! New snow & sunny skies = perfection. The week isn’t even over yet, the Showcase Showdown returns on Saturday (tomorrow) with a different style; the Backyard Slopestyle. Inspired by the mini-parks in locals' backyards all over Whistler, the Showdown will blow the scene up with a snowboard slopestyle at the base of Whistler Mountain. I cannot wait to check it out! Get more info at showcaseshowdown.ca

Keep on shredding!

This weekend my really good friend Jay came in from NYC, and we kicked his ass. I picked him up at the airport at 11:41 am on Friday by 2:00 we were in the backcountry taking hot laps with Andy Spotts and Peter Tankersley. By nightfall we were tired and went home. Up Saturday morning with the sleds gassed up, lunches packed and a new tape in the camera, we headed out again. We met up with Josh Hall and Dave Harabedian and went full throttle making turns and shuttling on the sleds. Sunday was an on hill day at Squaw, what a trip I have been in the backcountry all season, that was my first day at the resort this year. Squaw was fun, but the backcountry was calling us back. I hit up Chappy, my boss and asked for Monday off, he said yes because he is RAD. So up again Monday, more lunches packed and Andy, Jay, Dave , Peter and myself were ready for another day out back.... Check out the Team Old Guy Vid...oh yes there are some funny bails too...

Participants arrive at Squaw on February 26, opening ceremonies take place on Friday, February 27 and competition is scheduled for Saturday, February 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to an alternate date between February 29 and March 5. Spectators can enjoy the festive atmosphere with live music and ongoing events at The Village at Squaw Valley plus another village at Squaw Valley’s High Camp.

Riders participating in the Squaw event, which is the second leg of the Freeride World Tour, will arrive in California after showing their stuff in Sochi, Russia. New Dave updates

Ok, so here is what I don't understand. I don't understand how things can be going great, and then suddenly everything can crash down all around you. How do things go from being blissfully peacefully to drama filled and horrible. I've never been so frustrated with how things turn out more.
Recently I've started running to help deal with all the crap in my life. I have never ran more.... This week alone (Monday to now) I have ran almost 5 miles. Last week I ran just over 5. I have never ever had the desire to run until now. I literally use running as a type of therapy. Yesterday I went running for 2.4 miles, and literally felt like I was going to hurt myself because I was pushing myself harder than I have ever before. I guess this "therapy" isn't bad for my snowboarding because it's building up my leg muscles, but some how I just don't think it's healthy to use one thing so faithfully as a release. It's almost as if running has become a drug to me. I think I need to cut back a bit. Then again, if I cut back on the one thing keeping me sane, other things may happen that are not so good.
OH and not to make you all think I'm some emo, depressed, psycho girl. I'm really not, times are just tough. I had one guy I was really really close to tell me that we couldn't be friends because he started seeing someone. Then I had my mother decide she was going to turn into a psycho control freak, and basically restrict all of my freedoms. Then I was stupid and used a pickup line on a guy I liked, and that back fired and now he's avoiding me. Oh and I can't forget all the drama with my friends continuously ditching me, and giving me crap about my decisions on where I'd like to go to college. It's just not really happy times for me right now. I mean I'll live and get through it all, it just won't be a barrel of monkeys like I would prefer.

Indeed.
-pops a piece of bubblegum in his mouth-
Today is so intrepid. But why describe it. Why waste the potassium.
Is it really only Tuesday? It seems like Monday was ages ago. Funny how that is when you try your best to fill up each moment with something. When a good friend sends trickles of divinity your way. All that jazz
-pops a bubble in your general direction-
The war has already begun. I do not stand alone in this blasted landscape. We are all intrepid together. Ones strength gives into another, a weakness becomes as nothing in the stalwart stance of several. Yet this is no sureity. Battles are lost, battles are won, only the best leaders determine the outcome.

dude, it’s been a rockstar few weeks in minnesnowta. the state fair just rolled through, the republicans had their little convention, and rage against the machine played. yeah, rage against the machine.

i usually tell people that minneapolis and saint paul are like big cities nobody has moved into, yet. they look like big cities, but traffic isn’t that bad (i’m looking at you, bay bridge), and it’s mostly just half-rich white kids getting bored and causing trouble. that safe feeling fully eroded after seeing what the police had done to our cities.

unkown

since last saturday, 422 people have been arrested in association with the RNC, with like 280 of them happening on monday. some of those rowdy rousers were the anarchist type, and you know how dumb breeds dumb. a mini riot broke out on monday, and that set the tone for the rest of the week.

the rage concert was ok. i wish i could say it was great, but the acoustics sucked. not their fault, but at $72 a ticket, i want my f*cking acoustics. rage played a lot from the first album, a few less from evil empire, and even less from battle of la. i was ok with that. single encore, then a plea from the band to “leave peacefully, but not passively.” zach encouraged everyone to show discipline, to show the police that we can get down in peace while still saying “f*ck you, i won’t do whatchu tell me.” yeah, it’s ironic, but get over it. it’s still possible.

the papers said we were greeted outside the concert by about 50 riot police. unless they meant “per sidewalk,” that number was a bit low. whatever. point is, unless you’re insanely drunk (i wasn’t), there’s no way you can walk past that many armed and armored police and feel like sneezing won’t get you your sheat beat down.

it took about a half hour before any half-assed protest broke out. the loudest kids didn’t like being told they couldn’t sit in the middle of the street (me: let evolution do its thing). the rest of us just didn’t like the idea of being told you can’t stand on this sidewalk by police in riot gear (and now gas masks). the police stopped us about half way down the block.

unkown

after some fat guy yelling through a loudspeaker about as clear as they do at the airport, the police blockade broke down. someone in the group said “walk that way” and everyone did. and we kept walking, probably about a few blocks, in the road, mostly because it was cleared. as soon as the block wasn’t cleared of traffic, these retired american gladiator cops on schwinns started riding people down, shoving them to the sidewalk, and almost getting a couple of the crowd to push back on them. dude, i know there are good cops, but some of the cops out that night had that look like “say what again mother f*cker.”

drive:Users:malbiniak:Desktop:ratm:IMG_0065.jpg

somewhere between the schwinns and the cops on super horses, 3 little piggies came riding up on one of those atv golf carts (didn’t see any segways) with that short stubby looking thing that usually shoots tear gas. after we heard the pop pop, we looked for the area with the least amount of cops, ran, and gtfo. police said it wasn’t tear gas, but, they were the ones wearing the gas masks.

drive:Users:malbiniak:Desktop:teargasmobile.jpg

hey man, there’s usually not shi*t to talk about in minnesota.

This month kicked off with some awesome snow and cold winter conditions. We had some excellent fresh powder riding for April fools day thanks to some short hikes into the high alpine. We are currently in the middle of the World Ski and Snowboard Festival here in Whistler which means lots of free bands in the village and world class snowboard competitions.

Local Camp News

At camp things are starting to slow down a little with only onr more week of programs for the winter calendar. That doesn't mean that we are slowing down as we are busy preparing for summer with our new NZ trip (Which is happening in September) as well as summer camp training in June and July. If you are keen to come out to Whistler the you can now book for new winter for our freestyle and freeride snowboard instructor training. If you would like to come to NZ you can check out the information on-line at

Cooler Magazine

Keep an eye out for Cooler Magazine on the shelves at your local news agent. Cherry from http://www.coolermag.com was just out at camp three weeks ago to check us out and write a story about our programs. They are a womens snow, surf and lifestyle magazine out of Europe which is an alternative lifestyle haven for young women.

New Zealand 'World Trip'

If you have ever dreamed about snowboarding in New Zealand and would like to come with our Pro Ride limited numbers adult (18+) improvement camp please let us know - there are now 10 spots available for our 8 and 11 day trip to Wanaka NZ (Middle Earth for those who have watched Lord of the Rings) - the date is set for September 6th. If you are already in NZ or planning to be there you can drop into our 5 of 6 day training only clinic. Drop us an email if you are keen to snowboard@pro-ride.com - you can check out the web page at http://www.pro-ride.com/new-zealand-snowboard-camps.cfm We already have several bookings and lots of expressions of interest. This will be a super fun holiday experience with the flexibility for us to be able to switch up our schedule based on conditions and the groups riding goals. We have 4 star comfortable accommodations with a gym, heated pool and bbq area so when we are off the slopes we will be living in style. We are also going to partake in some jet boating, bungee, snowmobiling and heliskiing for those who are keen as optional extras.

Camper News

Our most recent Level 1 and 2 candidates all dominated their exams with above standard being a common thread for many of the results sheets. We had a huge party at the end of March with many of the long term campers finishing up for the winter. Most of the crew have decided to stay in town and ride until the end of the April and make the most of the excellent snow conditions.

Coach News

A couple of weekends ago the Canadian Nationals half pipe competition was on down in Vancouver at Cypress Mountain. Crispin, Ryan and Neil all went down for the event and came 4th, 6th and 9th. Katie went down to represent the women and came 12th. In other coach news Dylan is still slaving away on the house he is building down in Squamish and is planning on heading east for the summer to build log homes. Duncan was in Toronto with his girlfriend and jsut got back. Lisa and Luke are planning on heading down to Mt Buller in Australia for the summer snow sliding season and Ants L is hanging in Whistler for the summer and playing golf.

Mountain News

As most of the world’s ski resorts close for winter 07-08, Whistler has announced more than two months of its long snowsports season is still ahead.
