so it was saturday night. there was a pred grad going down. for those who dont kow, a pre grad is a dance, like a night club (but wihtout the legal sale of alcohol seeing how its for minors). it wasa good time, it ended around 1:30 in the morning.
instead of busing home, one of my friends, jothem, who drove to pre grad offered me a ride seeing how most of the guys that he came with cabbed home. now if that isnt confusing enough, its not actually jothems car, its his friend will who is an extreme drug user, jothem just had the keys because Will so so incredably high, so he was taken back to his car to sleep.
anyways, jothem and his girlfirend were walking back to the car with myself and 2 of our other friends ben and benny. so we get to the car to see if will was still there, hoping that he hadnt left, cause we probbly would never find him agian. however he was still there.
the car was a camry, which holds 4 passengers and a driver. if you have been following, there is 6 people. so we came to the decision that i would drive, jo and his girl would both sit together in the front and ben and benny would sit in the back with our half dead friend will.
we decieded to take the cabie street bridge home; we assumed seeing how there was construction on, there would be no road checks. we were wrong.
we were already part way up the bridge before we saw the cops. we were all going "shi*t, now what". you see we were braking the law in more then one way. i did not have my licence on me(which is atleast over $100 fine) and i only have a novice licence(for anyone who doesnt know, this was a stage which everone has to go through before you can get your class 5. it restricts you to 0.0% blood alcohol level and 1 passenger max(fine + license suspension). to go along with a novice license, you alsohave to display and "n" plate on the car, whihc was also not done(it also comees with a fine).
before we got to the road block check, jothem was like "put it in reverse!!!". we couldn't U-turn cause there was a barrier in the way. I was just thinking how am i going to explain this whole situation over the phone from the police station to my parents to try and get bail. i was holding my cool way better then the rest of the guys, except will who was passed out and had no idea what was going on.
i drive up, and the cop takes one quick look at the inside of the car and asks us to pull us over. so i did. the cop said to me "have you had anything to drink tonight," and i said no in calm sober state. and then he quickly said with kidna a huumorous tone "you seem to have too many people for the amount of seats in your car". and then he asked me, if i had my license. i replied
"i do have a licence, but i dont have it with me" he quickly asked
"why not." i then siad
"well this isnt my car, i was planning on busing home. but they asked me to drive them home because they had been drinking." and then if things wernt bad enough, he looks at ben in the back seat and asks him
"were is your seatbelt" (you see, i assumed everyone had there seatbelt on, i guess they just really trust me to not crash). when i turned around to see that ben didnt have his seatbelt on i though
"f*ck, were screwed now" but ben answered the cop straight up
"there is a seatbelt, i just dont have it on" i thought to myself "f*ck ben, it didnt accur to you to put your seatbelt on when we saw the raod check!". however to my surprise the cop just said "ok" and left ben alone. what the cop said was
"heres whats going to happen, im sure you are a very good driver, but you never know about the person in the other lane, and if your crash she(pointing at jothem girlfriend, sitting ontop of jothem with no seatbelt on) will fly straight through the wind shield. so what i want you to do is drive off the bridge and pull over to the side and call someone to take your extra passenger"
we all said thank you(well except will who still looked like he was dead).
dude, the smiles of relief on everyones face was priceless. we ofcourse didnt pull over at the end of the bridge, however there was an idle cop car with its lights flashing, we were hoping it wasnt contacted to pull us over, so we took a side street for a few blocks, and no cop followed us.
i was getting major props for keeping it cool with the cop and saying how clutch it was that we picked the cop on the left side of the bridge. god, i love vancouver cops.
