I find posting once every two years is best. One it takes me that long to be creative enough to entertain you monkies (I mean that lovingly) and two... I'm lazy.

Anyway, so the day starts off balls ass cold. What is balls ass cold you ask? Well, balls ass cold is somewhere below "Holy Jewish Christ it's cold!" and just slightly above "Dude, I can't feel my nuts!". Tim and Dan can fill you in more on how cold it was, since they decided to sleep in their car... on the mountain... at 5am... with the heat off. Yeah, them Maryland boys ain't all there.

So as I was saying, it was balls ass cold, and we decide to warm up with a nice easy run. Now this run, had this stuff called packed powder on it. I'm not sure what it really was because it was light and fluffy and responsive and easy to ride. Where I'm from, packed powder is the frozen painfull shi*t you get the day after all the man made snow froze. I have to say, I like Vermont's version a lot better. Anyway, we're on this run, and there's this little roller of a jump at the start. Now, everyone is hitting this thing and landing with ease. I says to myself "SELF! that looks fun and easy so I'm gonna try it!". Sadly, what my mind failed to take into account was that the ones who went over it where Dan, Tim, and a few others who have been riding a hell of a lot longer than me and therefore, can actually ride really well. So just because they make something look easy, it may not actually be so... easy. Apparently, I left this part of my brain back in VA. So I tuck and make a straight line for this thing hit the top and leap. It's at this point that I realize I have no earthly clue what in the blue flying catholic %$&* to do whilst airborne. This becomes even more obvious when I land with all the grace of a drowned bubonic rat. But this isn't Liberty, so the landing area wasn't made of rock. Unfazed, I get up and ride down.

From there we wait and get on the tram. The tram by the way is the slowest means known to man to get people up a mountain. Seriously. Anyway, we get to the top of this beast and I'm looking around at the kind of terrain I've never ever ridden before. I can't wait to ride down this bitch! So I strap and and get ready to roll. It's at this point that I realize one of the straps on my binding has snapped in half making my foot wobble around in my binding like a drunken irishman on st patty's day. Getting down is going to be a bit of a challenge. The only thing I can do at this point is ride down and pray for a repair at the base. So Carmen and I take off for the base.

I will point out that the ride down was pretty awesome. Especially for a mid atlantic rider. Lots of terrain, snow, and no ice. Again, NO ICE. Hah! Anyway, I'm almost all the way down I start to get cocky again. Yes I know, not exactly a bright move when im working with half a binding on my back foot. Like I said, I left that part of my brain at home. There are these nice rollers/hills/whatever the hell you call them, that were just screaming for me to get some speed and jump at the top. Soo, I jump em. And amazingly, I land the first one. Excited, I tuck and get ready for the next one. Up I go and again I land without bailing. At this point I'm flying down the hill and there's one more coming. I figure go for 3!! Haha, yeah bad idea. I tuck and throw everything I have into my legs to jump the last one sending me into a low orbit. I try to land but my balance is off and I come crashing down right on my head. That's when the lights go out. But only for a second or two. Thank god for brain buckets. But this has certainly put my ego in check for the rest of the trip... Kinda

Finally at the bottom, a little woozy, I go into the shop in the hopes that they sell flows. In the middle of burton country (yeah). They don't in fact, no one does... anywhere. I'm stuck buying the only large size bindings they have. a $70 pair of Burton Freestyles aka $70 of pure unholy suck. But whatever, I meet up with everyone and again head up the tram. We're headed for something called the ugly tree. I don't know which of the 80 billion trees was the ugly one but I'll get to that shortly. So we're riding to this thing and I'm trying to get used to the new bindings. I'm kind of getting the hang of it and let myself get some decent speed on the way to this glade run. That's when I catch an edge and come down on what is becoming my prefered landing cushion... my head. Honestly, I'm pretty sure there's some important SQL knowledge that i've forever lost up that hill somewhere. I can still tie my own shoes though so I'm good. However, I've managed to shatter my goggle lenses in this fall. Yeah I don't know how I managed that either. See below for pics

Now for the trees. Keep in mind that I've never even really been on a black before. Sure I rode a handfull of them at 7 springs for one day ut those are about as challenging as picking my nose. This is a run through trees n shi*t... TREES! But I'm with a bunch of people who know what they're doing so I'll be all right... Kinda. They head on through these trees and in a matter of 3.4 seconds, I've lost all of them. I can't see them, I can't hear them, they're just gone lol. Now these new bindings aren't responding very well to my "oh shi*t turn now!" commands. So I'm spending most of my time on my ass, and my back, etc etc. It takes a retarded amount of time to finally work my way out of the trees. Once I do, I find that I'm all kinds of alone. So I spend the rest of the day exploring this huge mountain. Next time, I'll bring a radio that works!

Friday was a different day. After some inventive binding "repair", I'm back on my flows. And I brought some spare lenses for my goggles so I'm back to working condition again. Time to make another run through some trees!

I've learned a few lessons about riding through trees with this group. 1) Never follow rob because he loves his superman impression. But unlike superman, he doesn't stay airborne. 2) Follow Zach (cifex), because he takes lines through trees that people can actually survive. 3) Never ever ever follow Tim through the trees, unless you brought your golf clubs, and a shovel, oh and a tent. More on that below At this point I'm doing a decent job keeping up with these folks. Again they've been doing this a hell of a lot longer than me and I sure as hell would never attempt these runs on my own. This is one of the things I liked best about this trip. Hitting terrain that i never thought I could do and pushing myself damn hard to keep up.

Anyway, I follow Zach as best I can through these trees. I gotta admit, riding through trees is a huge rush. I've never done anything like it before. It's better than snorting blow off a hooker's ass! After a few hundred falls, and crashes into trees, I pop out onto the trail where everyone is waiting. Somehow, I've managed to beat Tim out of the woods. Which is odd because it took me just under a decade to get out. Then I found out why.

Apparently, Tim decided he wanted to go golfing. f*ck this riding shiz, boy wanted to break out his clubs and hit the back nine! Soo, he headed for the golf course. Which is obviously well out of boundes. For some reason Tim thinks this is a really good idea anyway. Even though he didn't bring his gold clubs... and there's snow on the ground. It's the little details that count. By the time he figures this out, he's waist deep in powder in the middle of a ravine on the opposite side of Vermont. So while we wait for the gallant golfer to carry his lanky ass back to the rest of us, we decide to keep ourselves entertained.

Dan works on his backflip (not quite as funny as Andrea's backflip but with much less ankle twistage).

Waiting for Tim

Several others play jump the tree stump.. thingy.

All the while shouting for Tim so he could get a bead on where vermont was again. (I think he cried). Dan was a bit upset that he was the only one shouting but that was because we were all laughing too god damn hard and the filth flowing from his pie hole like a raunchy poet. If Danimal was a religion, I'd f*cking worship it. Apologies to all the random folk riding by that heard what was said. But it was epic funny!

I'd write more but I think this post if long enough already. Needless to say I had the time of my life. I broke bindings, a helmet, goggle lenses, my ass, bought 2 pairs of bindings, got a horrid chest cold (btw, you can get a great buzz off of 5 advil, 3 strong swigs of robotussin, a cup of thera flu, and 4 sudafed caplets.), bit out a chunk of my mouth, spit blood in front of some random skier (that was pretty funny) and was molested by more than one tree (It wasn't gay because I didn't push back) But at least I didn't slip getting out of the hottub and bust my ass like a certain porch flying canadian

So I got sick of carrying a camera and the digi-cam and really failed at my usual 100+ pics.  I did have Cassi take alot of video on the trip, although most of it in the car.  I took one vid of my riding from Pierre's Knob chair at Bridger Bowl down to the base...I took it pretty easy as carrying the digi sucked as when riding...also got a cool chunk of Perr hittng 2 kickers in the trees.  I have a few pics on my phone I need to upload, and several others on the trip have pics I needto compile as they get posted.  I wouldn't expect the video until the end of the season, as I plan to edit it all and put music over parts seeing as our commentary probably sucks ass.

So, for now, I will just sahre a bit from the trip.  The usually shi*tty long drive sucked, but was worth it.  Our cabin was pretty sweet this year, with the intent on having stalls for 6 quarter-horses on the lower level.  Beautiful scenery everywhere.  Moonlight Basin was amazing, and easily my new favorite resort.....tree runs there were just sick.  Bridger Bowl was status quo, but tons o gapers on Monday.

The big ticket of this trip was the 5-man group riding Lone Peak....talk about intense!  The peak was shrouded in clouds, especially the south face where we plannd to ride down the Liberty Bowl.  The initial drop-in was smooth and not very steep until you rounded the gates/fences (I assume these are to protect people from losing gear at the top in the wind or getting blown into dangerous places).  At the lip, it was a much different story....I could see down only about 150-200 yards in the clouds and talk about steep!  Wow!  It was intimidating to get moving down it, but once I got my first 2 turns in and a rythm going it was a cake walk.  I had to stop 4 times to catch my breath, which each progressive stop coming further apart....glad I quit smoking 90 days ago or it would have been worse!  I am guessing about 1200 to 1500 feet down the clouds started to break and I could see another 1500 feet or so to the drop in of the Rockville Bowl by the Shedhorn lift.  We stopped at the entrance to the Bavarian forest for the last time, then rode the last stretch non-stop to Shedhorn.  It took an hour to complete and was easily the gnarliest ride I had taken yet.  I highly reccomend it to anyone that visits Big Sky.

Anyways, I think Archie got some pics of us resting durng our peak ride.  I know others have pics as well.  I will post them as I get them and hope to have the vid up ASAP.

Shred till your dead!  Hope everyone else is having an ill season as well!

What's wrong with gay marriage? Marriage, in my opinion, is a civil liberty. Everyone is allowed the right to get married. If we don't discriminate against people applying for a job, then why should we discriminate in the act of marriage? A recent poll was taken and found that opposition to gay marriage is highest amongst the most religious. As I'm sure you know, these people believe that, according to the Bible, gay marriage is wrong. And for some strange reason, I'm reminded of "seperation of church and state". Hmm ... I wonder why.

A woman, alone, has the right to have an abortion. It's the woman who has to carry the baby for nine months ... and sometimes, those mothers don't survive. It's the woman's life who is most affected by a pregnancy.

....FOR FREEDOM!!!

“In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act. –George Orwell

The year is 1913, Woodrow Wilson is president, and powerful banking interests, who have been trying for year, finally achieved their long term goal, of silently taking control of the American government.

The first thing the did to accomplish their take over was convince secretary of state, Flan Denox, to lie to the American people, and tell them that the 16th amendment [Income Tax Amendment] had been legally ratified by the states when it was not. The bankers knew that this tax would ultimately end up in their pockets.

Because of this fraud the American people were led to believe there was a tax on their labor. Congress and the President ARE completely aware of this fraud and it was cited in a recent court case:

“If you… examined [the 16th amendment] carefully, you would find that a sufficient number of states ratified that amendment.” -U.S. District Court Judge, James C. Fox, 2003

That very same year [1913] the bankers committed their second, and by far most diabolical fraud ever perpetrated on the American people, by bribing senators to pass the Federal Reserve Act, without the required Constitutional amendment. They did this during Christmas vacation, when many senators where home celebrating Christmas with their families.

And that is how the unconstitutional Federal Reserve Act came into being. They were very clever, and understood that who ever issued the money for America controlled the government.

“Give me control of a nations money supply, and I care not who makes its laws.” -Mayer Rothschild, Private Banker

President Wilson, who signed the Federal Reserve Act later said in regret:

“I’m a most unhappy man; I have unwittingly ruined my country a great industrial nation is now controlled by a system of credit. We are no longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinions and duress of a small group of dominant men.” -Woodrow Wilson, 1919

How did America transform from being a truly free country with a servant government where our individual rights are protected by our Constitution, to being a country that talked about being free but really wasn’t?

The change started when the Federal Reserve came into existence, and America adopted one of the major planks of the Communist Manifesto by creating for America this central bank.

The very same people that back the Federal Reserve System also back the graduated income tax, a second plank from the Communist Manifesto.

And now our Congress so dominated by the banks, is helping them entrap people even further by passing new Bankruptcy Laws making it more difficult for the people to declare bankruptcy and get a fresh start.

“The Constitution is just a goddamn piece of paper.” -George W. Bush, Nov. 2005, Capitol Hill Blue

During the 1990’s President Clinton monitored millions of private phone calls placed by U.S. citizens. He did this under a secret program code named: Echelon. The wide spread use of wire tapping Americans during the Clinton administration proves that this practice was not started because of 9/11 but is standard procedure.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The new legislation for the national ID card is in and takes three to for pages to describe. It will be connected to our driver’s licenses and Social security numbers. A physical ID such as finger prints or retinal print will be on it.

This law known as the Real ID Act takes effect in May 2008. Anyone with out a card will not be permitted to board an air plain, Amtrak train, open a bank account, or enter a federal building.

The bill mandates that all drivers’ licenses contain “common readable technology. A radio frequency identification (RFID) chip will be used.

“It is time to wake up America. Those ID cards are NOT about defeating terrorism, they are all about controlling the American people.” -Aaron Russo

The latest technology for identifying people when they make purchases is the implantable chip that can be directly imbedded into human flesh. Its tiny glass capsule is about the size if a grain if rice. It contains an RFID computer chip with a coiled antenna.

Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and others have expressed great interest in being able to more closely monitor the American people. And one way to do that would be to determine who buys what and where they take these things.

Radio frequency can travel through walls, wood, the things we normally rely on to protect our privacy. For example your backpack, your pocket, anything you’re wearing or carrying.

They were talking about having reader devices in every airport, on every bus, every train, on every port and every dock.

One of the most worrisome applications of RFID is proposals to put in cash. Meaning that you’d be able to track every bank note, where it has been, who it has been issued to, and create an essence an audit trail that would essentially take away the anonymity of cash, that we enjoy today.

The ATM machine itself, as the money came through the roller device, would be reading each number. And it would know who you are; of course you identify yourself at banks or ATMs. And the ATM would tag the number, and transfer the possession name from, say Bank of America to Joe Jones.

Once every thing you do is tied down to a single number, and there is no longer the option to pay with cash, then all it takes to render you a non citizen is to simply turn you chip off. Then you won’t be able to participate in ant function in society, including buy food.

Through the implementation of the Federal Reserve System, the American citizen has gone from being a private individual who had real money, and gold in possession that was private, to a citizen who has no privacy because all money is now being digitized. They can deduct however amount of money they want out of your digits when ever they want, and they can trace you when ever they want. You’ll be at there mercy. God forbid we allow this to happen in America

“This is outrageous! I mean your talking about the government looking over your shoulder at absolutely everything you do, every purchase you make, every place you go, every company you interact with, would be recorded back to potentially the government.” -Katherine Albrecht, author of “Spy Chips”

Have we become so controlled and ignorant about our rights, that big institution and big governments can do whatever they want with us even with out our approval?

I know for certain that our founding fathers would resist to the death what is happening in America today. And I for one will not accept a national ID card. And if nobody accepts a national ID card, and nobody can board a plain without one, then let the airlines go bankrupt. And if you can’t open an account in a big national bank, then open one in a small local bank. And if we can’t walk into a federal building, I’d personally consider that a blessing.

Don’t allow these institutions to dictate to us how we conduct our lives. This is America, and we have free choice! We the people have the power not the government. The government gets its power from us, not the other way around.

Think of all the men and women that died in all our wars fighting for freedom, not Federal Reserve bankers. Do you think they sacrificed their lives so America could get chipped like a dog, so we can all have homing devices inside us? NO! This ID card is the last step before they implant us, and that is precisely the reason no one should accept one.

And you know what they’re going to do? They’re going to call in the propaganda machine, the media, and try to sell this RFID chip as if it was in everybody’s best interest.

“We shall have a world government whether or not we like it. The only question is whether the world government will be achieved by conquest or consent.” -Paul Warburg, architect of the Federal Reserve System, 1950

The central bankers of the world are working together to create a one world government. A global police sinister was the only thing George Orwell ever wrote about. Where every person on the planet Earth will have an RFID chip implant, where the bankers and the governments have access to every transaction you make.

A chip in every in everybody would be the universal monitory system, because there would be no escape from it.

Most people don’t have a clue that these unelected private bankers, actually control the governments of the world. They have actually financed and profited from ever war since World War I, without concern for humanity. The war in Iraq is an attempt by the Federal Reserve and their partner the Bank of England to control the middle east, and make it part of the new world order.

“Military men are just dumb stupid animals, to be used as pawn in foreign policies.” -Henry Kissinger

The war on terrorism is the war on your freedom.

“The bankers own take it away from them but leave them the power to create money, and with the flick of the pen they will create enough money to buy it back again. However, take away the power to create money, and all great fortunes like mine will disappear and ought to disappear, for this would be a happier and better world to live in.

But if you wish to remain slaves of the bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, let them continue to create money.” - Sir Josiah Stamp, former director of the Bank of England

“We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years.

It would have been impossible for us to develop our plans for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But now the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march toward a world government. The supra national sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto determination, practiced in past centuries.”

-David Rockefeller, private banker, council on foreign relations, June 1991

“The real rulers in Washington are invisible and exercise power from behind the scenes.” -Felix Frankfuter, U.S. Supreme Court Justice

“It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning.” -Henry Ford

Now that you do understand what happened in 1913, and how it is leading to world government, the future depends on you. Will you choose freedom or slavery? Stop living in fear of your government. Government is the servant. We are the masters.

So what are you going to do about it? Join together in civil disobedience. Be willing to take part in nationwide strikes, boycotts, and marches on Washington. Force Congress to use their power to shut down the Federal Reserve. Government has authority to issue money, without paying interest to the bankers. This will take away the power to control our government from the bankers. Only vote for candidates who have signed an affidavit to shut down the Federal Reserve System and stop world government.

If you are in the military or law enforcement, remember you swore an oath to defend the American Constitution. You didn’t swear an oath to promote world government. Honor your Oath.

DONOT accept the national ID card, even if it’s your drivers’ license. We must demand that the American peoples gold be audited, and make certain that it has not been stolen. This asset must be returned to the American people.

Abolish computer voting in the state where you live. Stop being a good Democrat, stop being a good Republican, start being good Americans.

And when the media starts telling you that the country will fall apart if this is done, don’t be fooled. This is just the Federal Reserve trying to save itself. Squash it!

“I like the old idea, where you could do what you thought you could do and what you wanted to do as long as you didn’t hurt anyone.”

 -Ron Paul

If you believe in civil disobedience and wish to organize with millions of Americans in this battle for liberty, please sign up at freedomtofascism.com, and if you choose not to help, report to Central Services immediately and we will have you fitted for an RFID chip… for you own safety, of course.

”We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.”
-Benjamin Franklin, at the signing of the Declaration of
Independence, July 4, 1776

I realzied that I hadnt posted here since like September. i moved back east in December, just in time for snowboard season. Id been riding around 15-25 times so far, with trips to Liberty Mountain in southern Pennsylvania and Windham in the Catskills.

Bigups to Liberty for showing me how a terrain park is SUPPOSED to be laid out, as well as for having a SnowboardCross track for me to ride on!

No bigups to Windham for making me make a trip to check out their halfpipe only to find out it was a 16 foot pipe. i was looking for an 8-10 ft. Guess I'll have to hit Big Boulder before the season's out.

Season's going good so far at Creek. Ive gotten a lot of my confidence back that I lost a few years ago when i injured myself, which is cool. Im riding faster, hittin more rails, hitting or at least attempting ALL the jumps. Good stuff. I hope we get a big snowstorm mid March to keep the season going till april!

so like, right now for example. the haitians need to come to america. but some people are all, "what about the strain on our resources?" and well it's like when i had this garden party for my father's birthday, right? i put R.S.V.P. 'cause it was a sit-down dinner. but some people came that like did not R.S.V.P. and so i was like totally buggin'. i had to haul ass to the kitchen, redistribute the food, and squish in extra place settings. but by the end of the day it was, like, the more the merrier. and so if the government could just get to the kitchen, rearrange some things, we could certainly party with the haitians. and in conclusion may i please remind you it does not say R.S.V.P. on the statue of liberty. thank you very much.

So here I am HOME, back again from a month of traveling.

Another brief hiatus/escape from this mountain paradise we call HOME.

Mireille and I needed a little sun, relaxation and some time to explore and that’s exactly what we did. Spent a few weeks in Bermuda to start with family and friends. Lots and Lots of time on the boats, circumnavigated the island a few times, went diving, n snorkeling in the turquoise waters, surfed some hurricane swells breaking on the jagged outer reefs(few cut and bruises to mention, thanks Zan)even did some drinkin, and explored some of the most private and beautiful beaches on this planet.

AHH!!  Bermuda... Never changes...

Off then to NYC and Long Island from some time with the sister and family. I had not idea this place(NYC) was soo BIG, I mean endless. Ground Zero(sighh..WOW) central park, times square, statue of liberty, subway, and Penn station off on the train to Long Island.

Stopped by for a quick trip thru Vegas on the way home, staying in some dodgy hotel on the outskirts of the strip. Definitely a true Vegas experiment, talk about @$#%%%$ up people in this town.

So now it's sled tune up time, and prep time for winter.

Start my 90HR Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) and CPR C course on Monday and take my Avalanche Level 1 in early Dec.

LET IT SNOW...

Never Forget

walking side by side, just me and you
talking of all the things we have gone through
talking about all the time that has passed
knowing our memories will always last
through all the good times and all the bad
through all the happiness and the sad
through all the wind and all the rain
through all the love and all the pain
through all the things we go through
there's not a day i won't think of you
through all the miles we are apart
i promise i'll take you with me in my heart

Angel

everywhere i am, everyone i see
you are right here standing here next to me
no matter where i am, you are here too
so dont be ashamed your a dream come true

This Poem was made after the september 11th event and it was made by Lea's Aunt Penny!!

American Hearts

The alarm goes off, you cover your head
Wishing you could just stay in bed
You wipe the sleep from your eyes
Yawn and stretch and begin to rise

Another day so much to do
Shopping, bills to pay, a meeting to get to
When you hear something that takes you by surprise,
All the sudden tears swell in your eyes

Beautiful buildings gone in the blink of an eye
Because someone isn't happy so many people should die
So many lives gone,
Because someone thinks freedom is wrong

Life, liberty, and freedom is not wrong
Together as Americans we will stand strong
You think this cruel act tore us apart
Well then, you don't know an American's heart

In every American through and through
Are the honor and pride of the red, white, and blue
All you did was brought us together

If you are feeling suicidal now, please stop long enough to read this. It will only take about five minutes. I do not want to talk you out of your bad feelings. I am not a therapist or other mental health professional - only someone who knows what it is like to be in pain.I don’t know who you are, or why you are reading this page. I only know that for the moment, you’re reading it, and that is good. I can assume that you are here because you are troubled and considering ending your life. If it were possible, I would prefer to be there with you at this moment, to sit with you and talk, face to face and heart to heart. But since that is not possible, we will have to make do with this.I have known a lot of people who have wanted to kill themselves, so I have some small idea of what you might be feeling. I know that you might not be up to reading a long book, so I am going to keep this short. While we are together here for the next five minutes, I have five simple, practical things I would like to share with you. I won’t argue with you about whether you should kill yourself. But I assume that if you are thinking about it, you feel pretty bad.Well, you’re still reading, and that’s very good. I’d like to ask you to stay with me for the rest of this page. I hope it means that you’re at least a tiny bit unsure, somewhere deep inside, about whether or not you really will end your life. Often people feel that, even in the deepest darkness of despair. Being unsure about dying is okay and normal. The fact that you are still alive at this minute means you are still a little bit unsure. It means that even while you want to die, at the same time some part of you still wants to live. So let’s hang on to that, and keep going for a few more minutes.Start by considering this statement:“Suicide is not chosen; it happenswhen pain exceeds resources for coping with pain.” That’s all it’s about. You are not a bad person, or crazy, or weak, or flawed, because you feel suicidal. It doesn’t even mean that you really want to die - it only means that you have more pain than you can cope with right now. If I start piling weights on your shoulders, you will eventually collapse if I add enough weights... no matter how much you want to remain standing. Willpower has nothing to do with it. Of course you would cheer yourself up, if you could. Don’t accept it if someone tells you, “that’s not enough to be suicidal about.” There are many kinds of pain that may lead to suicide. Whether or not the pain is bearable may differ from person to person. What might be bearable to someone else, may not be bearable to you. The point at which the pain becomes unbearable depends on what kinds of coping resources you have. Individuals vary greatly in their capacity to withstand pain. When pain exceeds pain-coping resources, suicidal feelings are the result. Suicide is neither wrong nor right; it is not a defect of character; it is morally neutral. It is simply an imbalance of pain versus coping resources. You can survive suicidal feelings if you do either of two things: (1) find a way to reduce your pain, or (2) find a way to increase your coping resources. Both are possible. Now I want to tell you five things to think about.1 You need to hear that people do get through this -- even people who feel as badly as you are feeling now. Statistically, there is a very good chance that you are going to live. I hope that this information gives you some sense of hope. 2 Give yourself some distance. Say to yourself, “I will wait 24 hours before I do anything.” Or a week. Remember that feelings and actions are two different things - just because you feel like killing yourself, doesn’t mean that you have to actually do it right this minute. Put some distance between your suicidal feelings and suicidal action. Even if it’s just 24 hours. You have already done it for 5 minutes, just by reading this page. You can do it for another 5 minutes by continuing to read this page. Keep going, and realize that while you still feel suicidal, you are not, at this moment, acting on it. That is very encouraging to me, and I hope it is to you. 3 People often turn to suicide because they are seeking relief from pain. Remember that relief is a feeling. And you have to be alive to feel it. You will not feel the relief you so desperately seek, if you are dead. 4 Some people will react badly to your suicidal feelings, either because they are frightened, or angry; they may actually increase your pain instead of helping you, despite their intentions, by saying or doing thoughtless things. You have to understand that their bad reactions are about their fears, not about you.But there are people out there who can be with you in this horrible time, and will not judge you, or argue with you, or send you to a hospital, or try to talk you out of how badly you feel. They will simply care for you. Find one of them. Now. Use your 24 hours, or your week, and tell someone what’s going on with you. It is okay to ask for help. Try:Send an anonymous e-mail to The Samaritans Call 1-800-SUICIDE in the U.S. Teenagers, call Covenant House NineLine, 1-800-999-9999 Look in the front of your phone book for a crisis line Call a psychotherapist Carefully choose a friend or a minister or rabbi, someone who is likely to listen But don’t give yourself the additional burden of trying to deal with this alone. Just talking about how you got to where you are, releases an awful lot of the pressure, and it might be just the additional coping resource you need to regain your balance. 5 Suicidal feelings are, in and of themselves, traumatic. After they subside, you need to continue caring for yourself. Therapy is a really good idea. So are the various self-help groups available both in your community and on the Internet. Well, it’s been a few minutes and you’re still with me. I’m really glad.Since you have made it this far, you deserve a reward. I think you should reward yourself by giving yourself a gift. The gift you will give yourself is a coping resource. Remember, back up near the top of the page, I said that the idea is to make sure you have more coping resources than you have pain. So let’s give you another coping resource, or two, or ten...! until they outnumber your sources of pain. Now, while this page may have given you some small relief, the best coping resource we can give you is another human being to talk with. If you find someone who wants to listen, and tell them how you are feeling and how you got to this point, you will have increased your coping resources by one. Hopefully the first person you choose won’t be the last. There are a lot of people out there who really want to hear from you. It’s time to start looking around for one of them. Now: I’d like you to call someone. And while you’re at it, you can still stay with me for a bit. Order the bookHow I Stayed Alive When My Brain Was Trying to Kill Me: One Person's Guide to Suicide Prevention by Susan Rose Blauner (William Morrow, 2002, $17.47, ISBN 0066211212). The volunteers give generously of themselves, but it costs them money to continue operating and saving lives - money for facilities, phones and computers. Money is a reality. They need it; we give it. Sending them this small donation is our way of thanking them and helping them continue to help others. If you would like to know where the money goes, visit the Samaritans website. If you prefer not to make a donation to the Samaritans, take the book information above to your local bookstore and order the books there instead. If you would like to make a donation directly to the Samaritans, click here.Out of the Nightmare: Recovery From Depression And Suicidal Pain, by David L. Conroy, PhD (New Liberty Press, 1991, ISBN 1-879204-00-2). Unfortunately out of print; sometimes used copies become available. As if suicidal persons weren't feeling bad enough already, our thoughtless attitudes can cause them to feel guilt and shame, and keep them from getting help in time. Dr. Conroy blasts apart the myths of suicide, and looks at suicidal feelings from the inside, in a down to earth, non-judgmental way. This is a book that will save lives by washing away the stigma of suicide and opening the door to a real way out of the nightmare. More info and reviewsWould you like to print out this page? Losing Insight

Ellie Williamson

We live in a society that constantly forces us to make “proper” choices concerning our future. In this environment our developing conscience puts pressure on our sanity. Everyday our beliefs are placed out on the table in front of us; we might see them, yet never do anything to protect them or pursue them even if those beliefs produce happiness and liberty. When this happens, our entire existence relies on the input of others and we no longer have reason to live for ourselves. We lose ourselves. We find bigger and brighter successes that we prefer to fear. We hope and we dream that one day we can experience our goals and dreams. The truth to our fearfulness is that success can lead to many choices within the conscience and, therefore, the paths to whence our lives may go. That is the beauty of it. With the developing conscience there is no right or wrong, it is only a matter of getting there; to success. Conscience can takes us anywhere in life, especially where we have always wanted to go. In the literary texts studied throughout the course, it is evident that conscience is a matter of exploration and experience.

Each individual pursues their dreams and deep down we all hope that each of us can achieve them. If all our dreams are met, well then there is a good chance mine can be reached as well. If lightning strikes once, why not twice? Hunter S. Thompson finds conscience through individuality in the pursuit of the American Dream: “…And that I think was the handle--- that sense of inevitable victory of the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simple prevail. There was no point in fighting---on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave…” (Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) Hunter declared that once you find your conscience and it is discovered, there is no turning back. It’s like this wave; the only direction it is going is forward, and it is bound to get bigger and stronger along the way. The wave is a metaphor of conscience. The wave is the Americans conscience, it may throw us around a little but in the end we will always be rolled back into shore. Robert Bolt has his own way of explaining Man’s journey to conscience: “…We must just pray, that when your heads finished turning your face is to the front again.” (Bolt, pg 17) When our heads begin to spin it is an indication that we are confused with what life has given us. The symbol that Robert Bolt tries to promote to us is that being confused and uncertain about your conscience is normal, as well as not knowing how to deal with it. As long as, in the end, we learn something and have come out with something to teach the world, to share with everyone we love so that they don’t have to go through the same journey. Life is about making personal choices that suit our need to serve ourselves and about accepting the consequences that follow those choices and decisions. Bolt symbolizes anyone without conviction of beliefs through his consistent stand up for being “grown” in such a way of conscience: “There are terrors for children, Mr Secretary, not for me!” (Bolt, pg 69) Mr. More already understands the charges that are at hand and Cromwell tries to make More change what he stands for and what he believes, just to please the jury. More chooses to follow his conscience and accepts what the consequences are and abides by them with every last fiber of intensity in his conscience. If we witness people pursue the things they want in a society then we can have better faith in ourselves to become that dream for that person, and we can possess the potential to reach our goals, and spread our successes for a beautiful and more clear Utopia. Sometimes, it only takes the power of one person to bring the winds of change.

One thing we must learn to do is stop avoiding our conscience. If we learn how to stay loyal to our conscience we can pursue our dreams for success without having to deal with the distractions of society. We live in a very dynamic society. One way of understanding people and the conscience of those individuals is through different perspectives, stepping into another’s shoes, or walking in the line of another. The world looks different from each unique spot that we stand upon, because we are all unique, in our own ways. Bolt describes how perspective is key to understand oneself: “Some men think that the Earth is round, others think it is flat; it is a matter capable of question.” (Bolt, pg 79) Bolt indirectly wrote about the journey through discovering the outer corners of the earth through the way of sailing. Over the duration of ones life, some may find out that man is incapable of success without the masses of society. Yet, we mustn’t get absorbed into the drama of society by allowing our conscience to lead us.  Man discovered the farther regions of the earth not only by himself, but also with the support of friends and family. Sailing is a symbol of journey, which ends up being a learning experience. Through Bolt’s way of preaching, he is able to show us how making a journey through conscience, is also making a journey into someone else’s dream, which can lead to success. It’s all relative. We are all related, the human and the insect, the lion and the rat and everything that is out there, is out there for us to learn something from it. Throughout the play, Bolt makes sure the characters are tested with their conscience: “Better a live rat than a dead lion.” (Bolt, pg 75) A clear test of conscience. The Common Man would rather be a coward and live a long cowardly life than to die a hero and have lived a courageous, but short life. The lion is a creature of courage and a rat is a creature of deception. There are many kinds of people in this society but when it all comes down to it, there are a lot more rats than lions. This is due to lack of individuality of conscience. Pure conscience cannot be pursued unless you let your lion lead you; the lion that sits in all of us, but never gets the signal to come out. Robert Bolt states how the country is controlled by immoral men and not God: “This country’s planted thick with laws from coast to coast – Man’s laws, not God’s – and if you cut them down – and you’re just the man to do it – d’you really think that you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? (Quietly) Yes, I’d give the Devil benefit of the law for my own safety’s sake.” (Bolt, pg 39) Another one of More’s beliefs is that laws were not already existent, they were created. Somebody chose to plant these laws within the country and that Man has control over these laws, religion or any other religious riffraff do not control them. But this is only the truth. Man never saw a chain, until he built it himself. Bolt uses this metaphor in a way of explaining the chains of society. We must break the chains of society because those are the weights that hold us back from our dreams and goals that are motioned by our conscience.

The issue we are in a constant struggle to overcome is that we have to give primacy to our unique thoughts so that the ideas of our friends and family do not embed themselves into our conscience. When we lose our personal insight on our dreams we become lost. Einstein saw this paradox in the pursuit of his dreams: “Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.” (Albert Einstein) Most people just deny their own eyes and hearts to do what they have been told to do. In order to please others and sometimes just to diminish their responsibilities, people avoid the change that would come from following their own eyes and heart. People deny the truth because the truth is born from our history. Some would rather face the future with a blindfold, than to look back on the past and face it for what it’s worth. But for others, like Brutus in Julius Caesar, they would rather give up, hand over their identity and become something without a conscience: “Brutus had rather be a villager than to repute himself a son of Rome under these hard conditions as time is like to lay upon us…” (Brutus, A. I, Sc. Ii, Ln 17) The conscience that Brutus is forced to deal with, is his desire to give himself away to the masses of society rather than to claim himself a true Roman under the rule of Caesar. He has lost his confidence in his conscience due to the troubled times Caesar created. Brutus lost himself because he was no longer able to find confidence in the conscience he once knew. In A Man For All Seasons, Bolt uses a jailer as a symbol because the jailer has a duty and obligation before he can let his conscience speak out: “…I want no part of it. They can sort it out between them. I feel my deafness coming on.” (Bolt, pg 80) As a jailer his duty to guard comes before his feelings and conscience. The Jailer unknowingly joins a herd of animals, his intentions and dreams are lost. When duties replace conscience, it is weakened. What we all do not realize as a mass society is that without independent success we are nothing more than the next cow in the slaughterhouse waiting for something better to happen; we are all clueless because we focus too much on what the other cow has to say. When we join a herd we realize that it is something we have always walked amongst. When insight is lost, we become lost.

Life isn’t just surviving the slaughterhouse. It’s finding out what is on the table and sitting down to dinner! Life is letting out the sails of your boat and dreams and slicing through the waves of change. There is a whole world of endless opportunity. Open eyes and an open heart allow us to take hold of conscience with both hands, and never let go. We cannot let the chains and threats of society bring us down, we are worth more than all those suckers out there in that plentiful herd. Choose a path, pick any one of them, as long as we move forward. Life will not let us down. The cynics and realists are the ones who will be endlessly anchored at a forgotten port, because that is the only place that the world will allow them to fit. We should never be fearful of showing our dreams and goals because even those with slight and small goals are still vastly better off than those with none at all. These literary texts teach us that conscience is possible. Everyone has the potential to do what they pursue, in one way or another, but it is only the conscionable people who figure out that without experience, there is no history and without exploration, there is no future.

My Journal: i love work....
By: tooscoops

what is wrong with people?  i generally like to think that everyone i meet is a nice person and i like to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are intelligent...

i may have to change my method.  it seems that most people i meet generally are not intelligent and turn out to be a**holes.  maybe its just because i meet them while i'm at work.  people i meet outside of work tend to be ok.  so why is it that people become morons when they have to purchase a car?  i mean, come on... i'm not going to give you a discount because your math skills remind me of my 10 year old nephew.

today it was a customer who was extremely happy that we made a diesel suv (the liberty)... so he was getting all excited about it and telling me the only other thing he was conidering was a tourag but they are too expensive... i told him i could sell him a liberty for around 30000 bucks... he got all excited saying that was great... less than half the tourag he was looking at, which was good because he can only afford maybe 300 a month.............. ok.   where did this guy go to school?  300 goes into 30000, 100 times.  so not including taxes or any interest, he thinks i can finace him for over 8 years?  realistically with taxes and such and a low interest rate, he'd need me to finance it over about 12 years.  sorry to get into business talk here, but what runs through peoples heads?  even a lease would be twice what he wants to pay......

now, i have another woman who came in and got quite upset with me the other day because i didn't want to drive the third car she picked out... i said, "why don't we figure it out on paper before taking the time to drive it?" and she got all bitchy and said i had to take her out because it was my job.... sorry, my job is to sell cars, not to sit in the passenger seat of a car being scared for my life becasue you can't drive.  f*ck you... i was real suprised to hear she was single... not just for the bitchiness, but for the fact that she looked like she had been beaten with a bag full of hot nickels.

Everyone exposed to the magic of electricity, at some point in their life, is astonished by light being produced by flipping of a light switch.  At the time of putting this marvelous relationship together questions are normally asked.  How does it work?  Where does it come from?  What makes it happen?  These might be some common questions associated with the wonder of electricity.

After this initial understanding and personal research, we go on with our lives knowing that the power comes from the power company, and later on, deal with the responsibility of having to pay our electric bills.

The question is raised however: are we making our electricity in the safest fashion possible for the well being of our fellow man and ultimately our planet?  There are many ways to create electricity, from pulling energy from the thermal heat originating in the core of our earth, to spinning generators with the power of water.  We also use fossil fuel and wind to generate electricity.  Among these methods is the villainous electrical source of nuclear power.

Nuclear power and the responsibility of its use is an issue I believe every person must consider.  Nuclear power companies would have everyone believe that their method   of producing electricity is the safest most efficient means available, given our current technology.  The claims of this multi billion dollar industry are not only wrong, but should be considered criminal.  I’m not saying that our other methods of creating electricity are perfectly safe, but when you weigh the consequences of this technology and it’s impact on our planet and its occupants with other forms of power generation I believe you will find nuclear power and it’s continued use, to be a mistake of a most grandiose magnitude.

According to an unknown author in a highly informative website with a positive outlook on the subject “Nuclear power plants have experienced an admirable safety record. About 20% of electricity generated in the U.S. comes from nuclear power, and in the last forty years of this production, not one single fatality has occurred as a result of the operation of a civilian nuclear power plant in the United States”(www.fortliberty.org).

This is an impeccable record by any standard.  The operators and technicians currently running our nuclear facilities should be praised and awarded for their contributions to our current safety.  However, people aren’t perfect.  We make mistakes on a daily basis, and will continue to make mistakes until we can congratulate the last member of our species for becoming perfect.

Taking a look from a global perspective at the deadly elements used in the production of nuclear electricity, we are allowed no faults or mistakes with our current concoction.  Just because America hasn’t had a fatality yet doesn’t mean that we can by any means exonerate ourselves as free of possibility and error.  In addition, just because America as a nation hasn’t had any problems, doesn’t mean that Chernobyl never happened.

Take into consideration the words of the founding president of Physicians for Social Responsibility, Dr. Helen Caldicott:

“From a medical perspective, nuclear waste threatens global health. The toxicity of many elements in this radioactive mess is long-lived”(Dr. Caldicott www.healthandenergy.com).

Plutonium is the worst culprit when it comes to nuclear waste.  Less than one quarter pound of this substance, globally dispersed could generate cancer in all of our planets inhabitants.  It lasts for approximately half a million years and infiltrates our body by way of the lungs, where it obviously causes cancer due to its highly carcinogenic properties.  Plutonium also causes bone cancer, leukemia, liver cancer, and causes birth defects in unborn children.  If this isn’t enough information for you, plutonium is like a magnet to the testicles of our planets animals, and causes genetic mutation that is inherited by offspring and passed on to their offspring on down the line(www.healthandenergy.com).

Dr. Caldicott’s information is only a glimpse into the universally enormous possibilities that can arise from exposure to these elements.  The mutagenic possibilities of genetics are endless.  Any Biology teacher can tell you that.  Since these mutations are passed down from generation to generation, no future offspring of anything could escape the wrath of a global exposure.

Since it takes less than a quarter of a pound of plutonium to globally dose the population with carcinogenic radiation; I bring up two questions: How much plutonium have we accumulated thus far and how long does it actually last?  According to Carl Hoffman,

“ 70,000 metric tons of highly radioactive nuclear waste for 10 millennia… and  America's 103 operating nuclear powerplants are generating another 3,000 metric tons a year. … The half-life of plutonium is 24,000 years, which means it'll actually take 240,000 years before you can hold a chunk in your hand without being poisoned by radiation”(Carl Hoffman 58).

In my opinion one millionth of a gram of plutonium is too much.  It’s found nowhere in nature, and quite frankly has no place there either.  Nuclear power plants continue and will continue to make plutonium as a byproduct of power generation as long as billions of dollars worth of currency fund this growing buisness.

Consider the information you’ve just received and ask yourself: “is the continued production of plutonium acceptable from any standard, whether it’s the byproduct of power generation or nuclear weapons?”  I think you’ll find that anything that aids in the production of such a potentially catastrophic substance is just as bad as the production of atomic weapons.

I have one more point to make about my opposition toward this “light switch wizard”.  We currently have no safer place than nuclear power plants to store this waste.  According to Carl Hoffman over 20 years ago Americas scientists had located a spot to place all this waste in the desert of Las Vegas.  This location is known as Yucca  Mountain and is owned by Americas government.  The problem with Yucca Mountain is that, after spending billions of dollars to investigate the structure and hydrology of the mountain our scientists found that there is a possibility of more water located there, than our initial calculations could account for.  The issue with water is that it has the potential to corrode the casks all of this waste will be stored in, and allow nuclear radiation to penetrate our water table( 58).

Mr. Hoffman goes on to say,

“If the Nuclear Regulatory Commission licenses Yucca Mountain in 2009, the first stage of a 300-year project will commence in 2010: the boring of 60 miles of access and emplacement tunnels 250 feet apart and up to 25 feet in diameter, 1,000 feet underground” (Carl Hoffman 58).

Carl includes a description of how the inner workings of Yucca mountain will function.  They include packaging the waste in 19x7ft. cylindrical containers that weigh 80 tons a piece.  The temperature of these containers will be close to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.  With waste this hot and so radioactive, movement will have to be conducted by a machine run, entirely computerized network of train like vehicles and cranes, similar to the ones you can win stuffed animals in at the bowling alley( 58).

This is our best solution we as a nation can look forward to thus far, toward the disposal of this waste with our current technology.  Yucca Mountain’s future repository sounds to me like something out of a science fiction novel.  An entirely computerized system of monitoring and moving tons of nuclear waste in close proximity to more nuclear waste, and its safety for 300 years can be allowed no error; just like the imaginary perfect people of the future.

It turns out however, that Yucca Mountain is receiving more opposition than the Nuclear Regulatory Commission expected.  According to the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management

”…the DOE is likely to push back its planned opening for the proposed Yucca Mountain spent fuel repository from 2010 to 2012… U.S. Representative Shelley Berkley (D-NV), commented that even a 2012 goal is unlikely to be met.

"I think Margaret Chu and the administration can say 2010, 2012, but I suggest they start looking at 20-never," said Berkley. "They will never be able to make Yucca Mountain the appropriate site"(Nuclear Power Today).

Plutonium is created as a byproduct of nuclear power.  Plutonium is deadly and remains deadly for thousands of years no matter where we send it, other than directly to our sun.  We already have far too much plutonium on the planet to deal with, and generating more of this man made substance should be globally banned for all nations including America.

From the information gathered here I question the integrity, morality, and humanity of every person that created and continues production of nuclear power.  I believe nuclear power should be cut out of our society like the tumors’ it has the potential to create; before the light reflected off the eyes of our young species, admiring the magic of the light switch, becomes permanently dulled.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

International Women's Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. When women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their Day, they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.

International Women's Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war; during the French Revolution, Parisian women calling for "liberty, equality, fraternity" marched on Versailles to demand women's suffrage.

Few causes promoted by the United Nations have generated more intense and widespread support than the campaign to promote and protect the equal rights of women. The Charter of the United Nations, signed in San Francisco in 1945, was the first international agreement to proclaim gender equality as a fundamental human right. Since then, the Organization has helped create a historic legacy of internationally agreed strategies, standards, programmes and goals to advance the status of women worldwide.

Over the years, United Nations action for the advancement of women has taken four clear directions: promotion of legal measures; mobilization of public opinion and international action; training and research, including the compilation of gender desegregated statistics; and direct assistance to disadvantaged groups. Today a central organizing principle of the work of the United Nations is that no enduring solution to society's most threatening social, economic and political problems can be found without the full participation, and the full empowerment, of the world's women.
