This is gonna be one helluva show.....

PortersTahoe.com, Burton Snowboards, Corona, Transworld Snowboarding, Alpine Meadows, Ubisoft, Sobe and the Supersuckers are teaming up on the evening of Saturday, October 25th at The Underground club on 555 East 4th Street in downtown Reno, Nevada to present the Burton Team movie It’s Always Snowing Somewhere. A 7pm all-ages, free showing will be followed at 9pm by a $4.99 cover for a 21-and-over premier of the movie and after-party featuring the Supersuckers. Tickets for the second, 21+ screening are available online HERE or at any of Porters’ four North Lake Tahoe shop locations.

The movie It’s Always Snowing Somewhere follows the Burton Team traveling the northern hemisphere, from Austria to Alaska. It features action footage from Shaun White, Terje Haakonsen, Natasza Zurek, Gigi Rüf, JP Solberg, Heikki Sorsa, Nicolas Müller, Tadashi Fuse, Frederik Kalbermatten, Jeremy Jones, Jussi Oksanen, DCP, Mads Jonsson, Trevor Andrew, Keegan Valaika, Kevin Pearce, Danny Davis, Kazuhiro Kokubo, Mikkel Bang, Mikey Rencz and Peetu Piiroinen.

There are only ten other screenings of the movie across the country, and this will be the only showing anywhere in Northern California or Nevada this year. The first 100 people at the family-friendly, all-ages, free showing at 7pm sharp will receive a free lift ticket voucher to Alpine Meadows Resort and a free tour stop t-shirt. An autograph session will follow at 8pm with Burton Snowboards team riders Jussi Oksanen, Danny Davis, Kevin Pearce, Mason Aguirre, Heikki Sorsa, and Kelly Clark scheduled to appear. Doors open at 9pm for the 21+ movie and after party. Tickets are $4.99 in advance and this is expected to be a sold out show.

Local Tahoe bands Cohesion and Hunks of Metal will play before the second showing of the movie. Hunks of Metal feature early pioneers and legends of snowboarding such as Terry Kidwell, Shawn Farmer, and Bob Klein. When asked to play at the event Bob said, “Who has a chance to open for not only the Supersuckers, but a world class snowboard movie as well? We’re looking forward to rocking the Underground for the first time, hopefully not the last, unless we get too drunk and rowdy!” Immediately after the 11pm screening of It’s Always Snowing Somewhere the greatest live rock ‘n roll band in the world – Supersuckers – will take the stage for a rowdy and raucous set. More local bands are scheduled to finish the late night / early morning in the back lounge room while The Underground’s resident DJ will spin the rest of early morning in the main showroom.

For more information on this awesome night email me at chappy@porterstahoe.com or call us us toll free at 866.967.6783.

"Enjoy The Ride...More" is DC’s marketing slogan for their highly anticipated release of snowboards this winter. Last night at 50-50 Brewery in Truckee, CA, PortersTahoe.com and the DC crew – including riders Devun Walsh, Iikka Backstrom, Aaron Biittner, and Lauri Heiskari – all came out with more than just their A-game to kick off this 20th anniversary edition of Mack Dawg’s "Double Decade."

Somewhere between 400 to 500 people joined Porters and DC at the biggest movie premier ever at 50-50 Brewery. There were two screens – inside and outside – showing the next progression in riding with several very well-received segments from not only the DC crew, but riders like Wille Yli-Luoma, Eero Ettala, and the closing part of Jussi Oksanen. The movie also sprinkled in 20 years worth of snowboarding pioneers and ground breaking MDP parts over the years from names like Chris Roach, Nate Cole, Noah Salasnek, JP Walker, and Jeremy Jones (past and present). "Double Decade" truly does give you more by throwing in a great, eclectic mix of music from the likes of the Pet Shop Boys, Devo, David Bowie, Doobie Brothers, and – believe it or not – the Grass Root’s "Let’s Live For Today" for a very soulful and artistic Jussi part.

But that wasn’t all for the day.

Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson from Snow Park Technologies arranged for some of the Porters crew and the DC boys – Devun Walsh, Iikka Backstrom, Aaron Biitner, and first-time golfer Lauri Heiskari – to play a round of golf at Northstar-at-Tahoe earlier in the afternoon. Conditions were ideal. Scores were very competitive in a "best ball", two-man format of 5 teams. In the end, a little home-field advantage – and let’s face it – just plain better skills from Gunny and Walsh propelled them to the win.

Longtime Nor Cal industry veteran and DC sales rep Ron Depp put the evening in perspective this way, "It’s amazing that we could draw such a large crowd with only 5 days advance notice and have so many ex-pros and industry people come out of the woodwork...or the Truckee woods!" Bill Markham, DC Snow Sales Manager, added, "Double Decade is a walk down memory lane that showcases many legends of the 90’s rail brigade. The film also captures how shredding has progressed from backyard rails to big mountain kickers. Couple this with almost 500 kids, beer from 50-50, great support from Porters and DC pro shreds Iikka, Devun, Biittner and Lauri and you got a night you won’t forget....or remember in some cases!"

Judging by how big of a smile Lauri Heiskari had at the end of the night, everyone truly had a great time...and MORE!

My Blog: News Just In!
By: JumpCamp

This just in: Forbidden has over 400cms mid mountain!! Possibly the most snow anywhere on the planet.

Well, all the JumpCamp coaches are just psyched this year with all the powder dumping down so far. We've been on some killer trips to Mount Cain as well as a few sick trips into the backcountry snowmobiling. The snow's been so darn deep that we've only yanked our sleds out a few times so far. Coach Javan Wyker has been taking full advantage of this year's conditions. He's planning on having another kid so he's got to get all the shreddin' in he can this year before he's on double diaper duty. Check out the Javdog launching the "Ole" drop on Forbidden.

My main man Curtis at Edge Performance has rebuilt my sled after I ran it out of oil last year. Smart move, I know. Go see Curtis if you need any sled work done, he's the best.

New Coach Myles Delange has been shralpin' it hard this season. Here's a pic of him launching one of our cabins up on Forbidden. We've got so much snow that we're riding the roofs! Check out Myles' new bio on the coaches page of the website. Welcome to the family Myles, now you can never get out.

Cover Of Comox Valley's Health and Recreation Guide!

Shred dawg extraordinaire and currently injured JumpCamp coach; Morgan Stevenson, graces the cover of the Winter issue of CV's rec guide. Yeah Brah! Did you stick it? Thanks to Allan at Comox Health & Recreation and Brad at Logistica Systems.

JumpCamp China Story.

Ni hao. Ni hao ma? We've got four articles coming out in China's only snowboard magazine; "Speed". Here's the first of four. It's all about the history of Forbidden Plateau and all the myths and legends that surround it, but you'll have to take my word for it if you don't know mandarin. Thanks a lot to our friend Ali Waugh for hooking us up. Xie xie.

Did you see our ad in the SBC Ski & Snowboard Resort Guide 2008 Annual? Nice eh.

Camps are filling up, get those registration's in to secure your spot.
That's all folks! See ya in the hills.

DONNER SKI RANCH, CA

For some of you young bucks out there, you have no idea of who the original pioneers are in our wonderful sport of snowboarding.  There was a time with no parks or half pipes that were sculpted to perfection. Also, back in the day the rivalry between snowboarders and the skiing right wing Reich was at an all time high.  Well today was a step back in time where Sorels, duct tape, leashes, neon, flannels and a f--- you attitude reigned supreme.

Pioneers in attendance:

  • Mike Chantry
  • Bob Klein
  • Terry Kidwell
  • Tom Burt
  • Jeff Brushie
  • Chris Roach
  • Monty Roach
  • Mike Basich
  • Pauly Johansen
  • Temple Cummins
  • Barret Christy
  • Shawn Farmer
  • Andy Hetzel
  • Tim Manning
  • Pat Bridges
  • And many more

Andy Finch gave me a buzz around 10 am and asked me if wanted to roll with him up to the Ranch and watch the event.  I gladly accepted, as I wanted to witness what the old dogs still had in their bag of tricks.  Donner Ski Ranch was refuge for snowboarders who were not allowed on the hill at the corporate resorts in Tahoe in the early days.  I can remember how many photographs graced the pages of Snowboarding and Snowboarder all taken at the Ranch.  All those pioneers and early shots were what got my original stoke going and hasn’t stopped.  Visiting the Ranch to this day is still like a step back in time.  No high-speed quads, no fancy day lodge and no overpriced gas guzzling yuppie bay area mobiles in the parking lot.  Just ear–to-ear smiles and a good vibe.

That good vibe resonated through the competitors as you could tell they were all having a good time.  The contest setup was pure as apple pie, a knee-high highway half pipe.  In 1987 I would have been stoked to ride something like that at my local mountain, where a half pipe to this day still doesn’t exist.  Watching my old heroes get loose out of that ditch felt like being 14 years old all over again.  Brushie and the Roaches still have that skate style influence that snowboarders have adapted into their own.  I’ve never seen tom Burt grab that much in one run.  Hetzel still has skills pulling back-to-back fives.  Tim Manning was boosting his old stiff-ass Gnu.  Mike Basich was getting it real loose and keeping it real with some laid out back flips and tweaked methods.  The cool thing was, all those guys had big old grins on their faces and lots of high fives were going down.  Lets also remember that all of their boards we old school.  A few of the boards didn’t even have edges or high-backs.  Also, there wasn’t any side-cut on those bad boys as well.  There was a little hoopla between the guys because Brushie did have the most recent board and his stance did go wider than 17 inches!  Yeah, 17 inches and that’s all you could get back then.

Finch and I were so fired up that we had to take a couple of runs on Bob Klein’s Terry Kidwell pro model Apocalypse.  What a good time!  I forgot how much you have to slide those old boards around and really give it more of a surf style.  Bob’s board was setup for goofy and I had to ride that thing Fakie.  Yup, fakie not switch as the lingo has evolved.  Switchstace frontside 180?  Isn’t that a frontside cab?

The contest went down in Jam format for 30 minutes and in the end it was the Hetzel with the win, Chris roach in 2nd and Brushie in 3rd.  All the riders pitched in 20 bucks and the winner took all the cash.  Hetzel walked away with 500 bucks and said “Not bad for and old washed up snowboarder”.

If you want to see some legends and how it was done back then, come on out next year.

PRO PHOTOGRAPHER SHOWDOWN FINALISTS ANNOUNCED BY

WHISTLER’S WORLD SKI & SNOWBOARD FESTIVAL

Action Sport/Lifestyle Competition Features World’s Best Shooters in Showdown for $10,000 Purse

Whistler is gearing up for a clash of the titans, when five of the world’s best lifestyle and action sports photographers compete in the tenth annual Pro Photographer Showdown at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, April 18 2007.

The five selected photographers will be flown to Whistler for a gala presentation on April 18, 2007, lured by the bright lights of the Festival, the industry’s preeminent celebration of action and lifestyle photography and a $10,000 prize purse.

At the Pro Photographer Showdown, the most dynamic moments in action sports are captured and mounted, trophy-style, for an appreciative 2000-strong crowd in a series of self-curated 9 minute multimedia presentations.

The “Best of Show” designation conferred at the renowned photography expose will see the winner join an alumni that includes Kevin Zacher, Eric Berger and Aaron Chang, who will judge the Showdown alongside Whistler’s “King of Light” Paul Morrison, and long-time host of the Pro Photographer Search, writer and creative mastermind Leslie Anthony.

Throughout its ten year history, the Pro Photographer Showdown has featured stunning photography from renowned surf photographers Aaron Chang, Jason Childs, Jeff Divine and Warren Bolster; skateboard gurus J. Grant Brittain and Jon Humphries; acclaimed mountain bike photographer Sterling Lorence; ski & snowboard legends Kevin Zacher, Eric Berger, Paul Morrison, Blake Jorgenson, Mark Gallup, Scott Markewitz, Dave Heath, Vianney Tisseau and Mattias Fredriksson, among others.

The five finalists are:

Peter Taras – San Clemente based Taras comes by his boho-creative blood legitimately. His grandfather was a revolutionist photographer who fought the reds and was hung by Stalin.  Having worked as Photo Editor for Transworld Surf Magazine since he was 24 means Taras spends more time in the editing suite than out shooting, and his brain is full of shot-lists still to be captured.

Endre Løvaas – This 36 year old Norwegian says he has no plans to quit his day job as Marketing Manager and Senior Photographer at Fri Flyt, Norway’s biggest ski and snowboard mag to focus solely on photography.   He’s shot with Matchstick Productions and produced images that have been published all over the world.

Nick Hamilton– He’s got the mongrel accent of a half Finnish, half British, half American guy, with multiple seasons in the French Alps under his belt. Currently photo editor at TransWorld SNOWboarding magazine, the 29 year old shutter-veteran edited British snowboard mag White Lines before moving to Cardiff, SoCal to take up his current role. There, he earned TransWord a Henry R Luce Cover of the Year special citation. And still can’t surf worth a damn.

Jeff Curtes – Boulder-based Curtes is the Principal Photographer for Burton Snowboards, and has been tripping around the world shooting for Burton since his big break in 1994. He has a degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a single credit in photojournalism from the Agricultural Journalism department and a stash of childhood memories of snowboarding with his brother Joe in the backwoods of the Wisconsin countryside.

Jody Morris – He spent a 10 year stint as senior photographer for Transworld Skateboarding magazine, and has freelanced for almost every major skateboard magazine in the world, as well as Men’s Fitness, Transworld Snowboarding and shooting a host of skateboarding's most iconic and influential ad campaigns, such as DC Shoes, Etnies, Adio Footwear, Quicksilver, Nixon, World Industries, Dakine, and Tony Hawk Inc.

For more info on the finalists check out: http://www.whistler2007.com/2007/photo/

And enter for your chance to win a trip to the festival:

Hey crew
Its been a super tough week this past week with one of australian skateboarding's nicest and raddest young fella's - Shane Cross - taken from us by an unfortunate accident and one of australia's true legends of vert - Ben Pappas - also taken from us in mysterious circumstances...
I've been crying, i've been a shoulder for others to lean on and i've been super cranky plus so many other emotions all rolled into one this week and there's still the funeral's and stuff to attend...
All i can say to you reading this is i treasure your friendship even if i've never met you face to face because we share something in common a love for life in its various forms...
Both of these guys loved life and lived it to the fullest and i'm sure they're smilin down on us without any regrets other than the things that they could have still accomplished in the years to come...
I'm sure they've joined my other skateboarding mates where ever it is you go and they're all waiting for us to come join the eternal sessions in the sky...

JumpCamp breaking news, current events, the latest headlines, news photos, analysis & opinion on top stories, world, business, politics and general shred dogging!

Jib Jam-boree a hit!

The inaugural JumpCamp Jib Jam-boree rocked! Competitors came from far and wide with one thing in mind; JumpCamp Glory! We're talkin' spin-in, spin-out tricks on our brand new ledge ( thanks for the ledge Jim! ), frontside to backside slides on the rainbow rail and some crazy buttering of the muffin on the JumpCamp roof step-up, built especially for the comp. Other highlights include eating burgers and hot dogs in the rain. Thanks to all the sponsors and shreds for coming out! We're going to have another contest before the end of the season so check the website for dates.

Coach Matt Brown considers shaving his long locks after seeing Britney Spears' new do. "I think I'd look good with a buzz-cut", Brown said before press time.

Road trips!
We're been on a few road trips lately. At JumpCamp we really love holiday road.
We headed off to Las Vegas to hob-nob with the snowboard industry a little while ago. We rode around in limos, gambled and ate buffets daily.
Coach Javan Wyker, that lucky ass, is off to Revelstoke to test out all the new '08 Ski-Doo sleds. Hope he gets stuck lots! Haha...

Another beauty, was a road trip we did to see some pals in Nelson. It was -18, sunny and the powder was awesome! Our main man Marlin showed us around and shot pictures. Thanks Marl! Check out Gnarly Marly's website at www.marlinolynyk.com

Nathaniel Vossen's long awaited movie "This Was Your Life" is finally done.
No, for real, I'm not kidding this time 'round! You gotta believe me... C'mon dude, I'm serious. Nathaniel's been in production of this skateboard/snowboard/lifestyle movie for 12 years so you know the finished product is going to be amazing. He's told me that April is when he's going to be having all the premier parties for it around the Island and the Lower Mainland. Keep posted for premier dates, you don't wanna miss this!

Our bros at Onethirtythree have got a new website up! You can check out their team,skate/snowboard pics, spots, vids and sales going on at the shop. Pretty cool. Check it out at www.onethirtythree.com

CONCRETE - THE SKATE PARK ISSUE March 2007

Remember the mag Concrete Powder? Well, now it's just Concrete 'cause it's all skateboarding, no shred-doggin'. Anyways, the new Concrete No Powder has a killer article about Courtenay and some rad pics in the skateparks around here. Our good buddy Sascha Daley has a bunch of wicked pics in there including a sick one of him kickflipping in the corner of Courtenay's indoor bowl at The Linc and one of him ollieing off a wharf into the water in Tofino. Brrrrr, shrinky, shrinky! My favourite one is of some little kid in the old Courtenay park going huge over one of the hips and there's some good ones in the new park such as a sequence of local home-dog Calen Drysdale. Nice one boys. Go grab it on newstands or at your local skate shop yo!

SBC Skier Magazine: The North Issue, Volume 6 Issue 4
The new SBC Skier is out and there's a great article about Vancouver Island in it. Local two-planker legends Al Hokanson and Yasha Berg grace the pages of the magazine shralping such Island destinations as Mount Cain and Forbidden Plateau.

I thought you should know that...

JumpCamps are starting this weekend!

Session #1 Feb. 24-25 ( full )

Session #2 March 3-4
Session #3 March 17-18
Session #4 March 21-22
Session #5 March 24 ( one day Jam )

"Basic Thugonomics"
by: John Cena

So, you think you're untouchable?

[Chorus (scratched) x2:]
Word life--this is Basic Thugonomics
Word life--I'm untouchable but I'm forcin' you to feel me

Whether fightin' or spittin' my discipline is unforgiven
Got you backin' up in a defensive position
An ass-kcikin' anthem, heavyweight or bantam
Holdin' camps for ransom, the microphone phantom
Teams hit the floor this the new fight joint
Like a broken needle kid you missin' the point
We dominate your conference with offense, that's no nonsense
My theme song hits, get you reinforcements
We strike quick with hard kicks, duckin' night sticks
Bare-knuckled men through fight pits, beat you lifeless
Never survive this, you forgot like Alzhmiers
Two-face rappers walk away with four shiners
The raw rhymer, turnin' legends to old-timers
My incisors like a vipor bitin' through your one-liners
New DeadMan Inc., and we about to make you famous
Takin' over Earth and still kickin' in Uranus

[Chorus]

You ain't advanced enough to process, potential for medical concepts
Some objects are foreign, like Loch Ness
Arts and sex are complex regardless of your finesse or fitness is the condition of business
Your lame vision of a underground physical image
You're underneath to undermine your whole typical image
With the precision of percentages and the collision of sentences
Poetry beats your mics
We untouchable like righteous sluts with no crevasses
Streets unite, we rock righter with dumber beats
You cats couldn't come this hot ? in the summer heat
Forget two takes--kill your birds the first time
You better stay worthy of my filler of worse rhymes
I'm better than nice, check the veterans twice
You be beside your self with fear
I'll kill you and bury you twice despite the cover of night
Trackin' ya flight like guerrilla warfare
When the grass is dense
Approaching me is a quick way to get referred to in the past tense
Dead-da, when the lights, the mic is on
The crowd is dead like intermission and you on the Titan Tron

I mentioned a quick bit about it a couple days ago, but here is the actual scientific evidence of the legends of shredding on Blackcomb's opening day. The only guys missing would be Johnson, Kearns, and Kevin Young. If you don't know what I am talking about, you really need to watch some old snowboard videos, and you are an idiot. The first shot is Marc Morrisett, Wes Makepeace, Dano Pendygrasse, myself, Alex Warburton, Devun and JF. I pretty much just snuck into the shot to show I am down with these guys. The picture was taken by fellow legend and Whiteout Filmer Anthony Vitale. Quick Fact- Wes launched huge road gaps with no shirts on (Whisky 2), and Marc and KY have the best shred-style... ever. The second photo is Shin Campos, Browner, Brad Makepeace, Chris Dufficy, Roth, Colin Adair, Dano, Kale and Warburton. We all had a sweet-ass time up there, and it is always fun to meet up with these guys. What you should do now is try and find some of the amazing movies these dudes were in, including the Whisky videos, Child Games, Sexual Chocolate, A Young, Brown Walsh, and see how good all these guys are. "History,my friends, is just as important as Science!!" Marty.

Thought I would do a little educational blog today since I hung out with Marty all day. We were up for the opening of Blackcomb and boy oh boy, Marty is riding stronger than ever. Once he clicks into those bindings...he's gone. Most of the whiteout riders were up in Whistler shredding some of the best conditions we all have ever seen up there. Anthony was up there with the "legends of snowboarding" crew, you'll see who I am talking about on a later post. Anyways, today's blog is going to look at what pretty much everyday of filming in the backcountry starts out looking like.
-First up,you set a meeting time, and no matter where you meet up some things never change. Anthony is always the first one there, and 99% of the time is smoking a cig and drinking a coffee. Kale on the other hand is always the last one to show up, most likely due to his truck breaking down on his way up from Squamish or just straight up sleeping in. Last year during one shoot he even forgot his shred pants, and ended up launching some cliffs in some grey sweatpants. Awesome.
-Next, everyone pulls into a small unloading zone and parks however they see fit. As it fills up, parking gets sketchier and trucks get closer and closer together. As you can see, Mikey and EEro try to make sure everyone parks in an orderly fashion. Sometimes they are successful, and often they are not even close.
It should also be noted that every time we meet up to hit up the backcountry, there are a few more common facts besides Anthony being the first to show and Kale being the last.
Fact- Mikey and Eero buy all of the Cajun Beef Rolls from the Husky Station.
Fact- Even if Trev has been to the spot a few times before, he is convinced that it is his first time there.
Fact- Tadashi speaks less and less English each time we meet up.
Fact- JF still has those crazy chops on his face.
Fact- Paavo has an amazing Techno CD pumping in his truck, and Benji and Reno are probably dancing to it.
Fact- Kale has most likely packed a block of cheese for his lunch.
Fact- Jaakko will still not be pleased with us calling him Orlando Bloom.
Special thanks to Marty for these facts!

Source Information: http://www.indigenouspeople.net/cherokee.htm

The Tsalagi (Cherokee) are a nation of North American Indians that formerly inhabited the mountainous region of the western Carolinas, northern Georgia, and eastern Tennessee. An Iroquoian-speaking people, they originally lived near the Great Lakes they migrated to the Southeast, eventually becoming the largest and most powerful group in that region. Their traditional culture included maize agriculture, settled villages, and well-developed ceremonialism. In 1827 the Tsalagi (Cherokee) established a constitutional form of government.

The first explorers of the Southeast discovered the most talented Indians north of Mexico. Builders, agriculturists, artisans, fishermen, and hunters epitomized especially the Tsalagi (Cherokees)' varied skills. Knowledgeable in herb culture, they developed useful medicines from them that are still used today. They also developed environmental concepts about ecological thought and survival. We are blessed by the legacies of Tsalagi (Cherokee) oral traditions, providing ethnologists with opportunities for cultural interpretations: legends about man, animals, supernatural deities, witches, and other evil influences. Their most famous leader, Sequoya, believing literacy provided power to the white man, alone developed the Tsalagi (Cherokee) alphabet (c.1820), and became immortalized when his name was given to Sequoia National Park in California.

A series of fraudulent, land-acquiring treaties were imposed on the Tsalagi (Cherokee) in the 1830s. The Treaty of New Echota (1835), in which a small tribal faction sold 2.83 million ha (7 million acres) of Tsalagi (Cherokee) land, required their removal westward within 3 years. The vast majority of the Tsalagi (Cherokee) Nation repudiated this document, but under Gen. Winfield SCOTT, most remaining Tsalagi (Cherokee) were driven from their land and forcibly marched to Arkansas and Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) in 1838-39. About 4,000 of the more than 15,000 Tsalagi (Cherokee) who made the journey died of disease and exposure.

In Indian Territory, they joined the CHICKASAW, CHOCTAW, CREEK, and SEMINOLE to form the so-called FIVE CIVILIZED TRIBES. Tribal lands were lost in the 1860s, after the Five Tribes sided with the South during the Civil War, and again in the early 1880s, when the federal government abolished tribal ownership of lands. When Indian Territory became the state of Oklahoma in 1907, all tribal lands were opened for white settlement.

In the 1980s, 43,000 persons of Tsalagi (Cherokee) descent lived in eastern Oklahoma; about 15,000 of these are considered full-blooded. The Tsalagi (Cherokee) who avoided the forced removal of 1838 escaped into the Great Smoky Mountains and resettled in North Carolina, where they formed a tribal corporation in 1889. Tsalagi (Cherokee) on or near the reservation in North Carolina numbered 6,110 in 1987.

My Journal: i got the itch
By: kendrat

so the tattoo bug bit again, and i finally got my rib tat that i've been working up to for years. she's a lot bigger than i at first anticipated, but it was love at first sight, and as soon as i saw her i knew... she's the one for me! that's right, i'm in love with a mermaid. she's my first multiple sitting tattoo, i feel like i'm losing my virginity all over again.

for me, there really is no significance behind a mermaid, except that my sister drew the original and i thought she looked awesome enough to make into a tattoo. so i let my artist loose on her, and couldn't be happier with the result. so thanks to eryn for the original, and thanks to leroy for marking me for life!

now, my mermaid's no sissy ariel figure like the little mermaid (ok, i might be little, but my tattoo's huge!). mermaid legends have been around since the assyrians, and that's a damn long time for them to have been wandering the oceans and singing sailors to their death. during shipwrecks, mermaids would pretend to rescue sailors but actually squeeze them to death and steal their souls. so i gues ariel got that part right when she tried to rescue prince whatever... only, she's not supposed to fall in love with him. eh well. that's disney for you.

My Blog: Istanbul 2005
By: Martin88

25th of May 2005,
From 45 minutes of dismay to the best night of our lives.
As the clocks started in the final, we all believed,
Until one minute in when we all bereaved.
1-0 Milan and it only got worse,
Then 2-0 and 3-0 was our night of glory cursed?

Our heads were hung low, but there was still hope in our hearts,
And that hope turned to belief 9 minutes into the 2nd half.
Gerrard rose above the rest, to put the fire back in the crest upon his chest,
Because the best DO NOT rest! They stand tall,
And within 2 minutes that passion provided another goal.

You'll Never Walk Alone echoed throughout the crowd and with this our warriors in red stood proud.
The chants rang loud as our confidence grew,
Would this legacy be passed from the old to the new?
And with that something remarkable occurred,
Almost drowned out by the passion of the pool a whistle was heard.
Penalty to Liverpool was this my imagination?
Then as Xabi drilled in the re-bound a roar was heard across the nation.
The mighty reds of Liverpool had achieved the impossible,
Now our night of glory again seemed quite possible.

Legs worked harder and hearts craved success,
But this night belonged to L.F.C some say we may have been blessed.
True we have a few legends,
Residing now in heaven,
But down on earth wearing red shirts I was counting legends and there were eleven.

Every player gave all they had to realise their wildest dreams,
And remember to do this you have to overcome and beat the best of teams.
So as extra time loomed and bodies became worn-out,
Another verse of our famous anthem rang again throughout.

Our 12th man roared again to rally their incredible team,
And every single one of them was dreaming the same dream.
Seeing that huge, big trophy in our captain's grasp,
Then a huge gasp, and a sigh of relief,
As Shevchenko's double shot was saved by Dudek.
See all you need is a little belief!!
And rumour has it if you watch the replay in slow-motion and follow nothing but the ball,
There were two goalies on the line that night: Dudek and Pope John Paul.

So as penalties followed and Serginho first stepped up,
Stevie G secretly had one eye on the cup.
Pirlo followed and missed his chance,
Dudek took Carra's advice and did a little dance.
Smicer's kick was a good one, and it was Milans last chance to redeem,
But Dudek guessed the right way and realised every Liverpudlian's dream!

Finally 21 years later after that glorious night in rome,
A new era for Liverpool was born and THE CUP WAS COMING HOME.
As celebrations continued I realised it REALLY was not a lie,
At the end of the storm there REALLY IS a golden sky!
