The 4 annual Jibassic Pro Invitational went down last Saturday night, and the riding was better then ever. Porters team riders Brandon Cocard and Chaz Guldemond dropped some heavy 270's in three different directions. Johnny Lazz had some awesome boarding, but was taken out by a heavy fall later in the competition, and Johnny Brady also had an immaculate backside 180 on to cab 360 out on the rail feature. Forrest Baily produced some awesome combinations on the down rail. And holding it down for the ladies was Jessie with a mean backside lipslide down the rail. All in all the event was a success, with Andrew Brewer taking first with his smooth style and well executed manuevers including a frontboard same way 270 to 5-0. Judge Sean Carney said " The riding was higher quality then the Vans Cup."

Sound the didgeridoos, the 2008 Burton Australian Open has come to a close and Torstein Horgmo (NOR) and Jamie Anderson (USA) have come out on top, winning the men’s and women’s slopestyle competition today at Perisher Blue Resort. After a week of dodgy weather, the sun broke through this morning, illuminating the 400m long slopestyle course that featured a downrail, battleship rail and three massive kickers.

With a field comprised of an Olympic gold medalist, the men’s and women’s New Zealand Open slopestyle winners, two TTR World Champions, six Winter X-Games medalists and some of Australia’s best, the day promised some serious riding and it didn’t disappoint. While the standard was high in both the men’s and the women’s fields, both winners were stand outs with Torstein Horgmo nearly ten points clear of Danny Davis (USA) and Jamie Anderson an impressive 15 points clear of her nearest rival, Raewyn Reid (CAN).

Horgmo’s $7,500 AUD winning run featured a fakie backside tail 270 on the downrail, into a switch 50/50 Cab 180 on the battleship, followed by a backside 720 melon, into a frontside 900 indy, finishing with a ridiculously big switch backside 1260 melon. “I feel really good right now,” said Torstein. “It’s crazy, I thought this course was so much fun, better than last year; you could do bigger tricks and have way more flow through the park. Everybody killed it today so I feel really fortunate to end up on top.”

Danny Davis landed 2nd place with a run that included back-to-back 900’s, riding away with $3,500 AUD. Eric Willet (USA) took home $1,500 AUD for his 3rd place finish, his winning run featured a switch backside 900 mute and frontside 1080 tailgrab.

Women’s slopestyle champion Jamie Anderson continued to be unstoppable in her pursuit for perfection with another podium win. She started her winning run with a tailpress on the downrail, followed by a noseslide-to-fakie on the battleship, sticking a switch backside 360 stalefish on the first kicker, into a Cab 540 mute on the second, finishing with an frontside 540 melon. “I am so stoked to win, it was a really fun day and we had great weather,” said Anderson. “The other girls were sweet; everyone was riding so well, it was an awesome day.”

Raewyn Reid had an impressive showing for the ladies with a backside lipslide on the downrail and a 50/50 frontside boardslide on the battleship, taking home 2nd place and $3,500 AUD. Kara Rennie (CAN) won $1,500 AUD and the third place title by styling it out on the rails with a backside lipslide and 50/50 to boardslide.

With the Burton Australian Open over, it’s on to the Canadian Open, taking place at CODA’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary from December 1-7, 2008. The Canadian Open is the third stop on the 2008-2009 Burton Global Open Series. Jamie Anderson and Luke Mitrani are currently in the lead for the $100,000 Burton Global Open Series Championship title. The BGOS boasts the most lucrative cumulative prize purse in snowboarding – over $900,000 – with equal prize money to men and women

After today’s Swatch TTR 5Star slopestyle event, Jamie Anderson continues to defend her 2007/08 TTR World Tour Champion title, while Chas Guldemond maintains his tour lead. For more information, visit www.ttrworldtour.com.

Heavy snow resulting in poor visibility tested competitors today during men’s and women’s slopestyle qualifications at Perisher Blue Resort. Riders from all over the world took on the inclement weather during day three of the Burton Australian Open to earn a place in Friday’s slopestyle finals, alongside some of the world’s best snowboarders including Mikkel Bang, Chas Guldemond, Torstein Horgmo, Mason Aguirre, Kimmy Fasani and Jamie Anderson.

The slopestyle course challenged riders with a variety of features including a down rail, battleship rail, three kickers and a wall ride. Top men’s qualifier, Eric Willett (USA) landed a solid run that started off a front lipslide 270 out on the down rail, followed by a 50/50 gap to front 180, 50/50 out on the battleship, into a switch backside 540 mute, followed by backside 720 melon, finishing with a frontside 900 tailgrab.

“Practice was nice yesterday, but the new snow today made the course really slow. It was definitely a challenge, but it was super fun, the course is really nice and the jumps were well built, said Eric Willett. “Speed was kind of an issue but hopefully it won’t be too bad for Friday’s finals.”

Joining Willett in Friday’s slopestyle finals are Jaako Ruha (FIN), Halldor Helgason (ICE), Andreas Monsberger (AUT) and Markus Malin (FIN), in addition to fellow American, Sage Kotsenburg, who placed first in yesterday’s halfpipe qualifications.

1 Eric Willett USA VANS 69.33
2 Jaakko Ruha FIN KISSMARK 66.00
3 Halldor Helgason ICE DC 64.83
4 Markus Malin FIN BONFIRE 64.00
5 Sage Kotsenburg USA QUIKSILVER 62.83
6 Andreas Monsberger AUT K2 61.83

Although the snow continued to fall, the ladies braved the elements and took to the course. Kara Rennie out of Canada earned the top spot for the women in slopestyle quals this afternoon with a run that started off with a 50/50 to backside lipslide on the down rail, followed by a huge straight air on the first kicker, followed by a tailgrab, finishing with another straight air. Laurie Currier and Ashley Wendorf, both out of the US will be competing in Friday’s finals against back-to-back slopestyle X-Games gold medalist and New Zealand Open slopestyle winner, Jamie Anderson.

1 Kara Rennie CAN NIKITA 50.67
2 Laurie Currier USA OAKLEY 46.67
3 Ashley Wendorf USA --- 45.83

The twin ninja babies are here! We love Mexico. Kale..

Congrats Tadashi and Yuko on the cutest twin ninja babies I've ever seen. Can't wait to meet them.

Its a fact, we love mexico. I remember. not too clearly but I do remember celebrating Halloween dressed as what we "drunk Canadian teens" thought mexicans looked like for something like 3 years in a row.

The photo above of Dev and Kale was taken somewhere around 98. I think we dressed up as mexicans for like 3 halloweens in a row... It only took us roughly a decade to finally come out with a goggle dedicated to the special little place in the world that blessed us with fish taco's, salsa, guacamole and terrible hangovers. Better late than never. Mexico, this ones for you!

Kale news: Kale has devised a new method of remembering all the super important things he has to do on a daily basis.

Ladies and Gentlemen, can I please have your attention...

Our office is located in East Vancouver. For those who don't know East Van has a bit of a bad rep. Everyday I show up for work there's something weird going on. Here's just a taste of what I witnessed Today.

Actually this isn't that weird, its my collection of old skate shoes. If I actually still skated there'd be way more up there.

This was in the way of the first place I was gonna park, no biggie but then I

Roll up to the next spot and See Mic Mac invited a buddy to live next to him on our street.

Steve scored the only decent parking spot left on our street snuggled in tightly to some old mattresses.

When we told Dave about the old mattresses he rushed right out and tried to 3 flip them.

As I capture the moment our good buddy Birdie strolls by. Just a warning if you run into Birdie in our hood or at the Bourbon on any given Thursday night... He's more of an outdoor, keep a good distance, don't actually talk to him, just take a photo while you're driving by and hope he doesn't throw anything at you type bud. We tight though..

Dev "the boss man" gets another TWS cover!

Here's the cover of the September issue of Transworld Snowboarding.

Dev was the only one out of the crew to hit this death gap. When "the crew" includes Jussi Oksanen and Andrea's Wiig it really puts into perspective how insane the gap is. Dev truly is the King of modern day back country riding. It's gotta be the goggles.. Look out for his part in Double Decade. He'll blow your mind... Again!

Zeddy called me to say: Hey did you know Todays international sex day!

Update from J man's Portuguese vacation:

Only J Man would meet sand ninjas on his first day in Portugal. I was skeptical too till he sent me this photo to back up the story.

The sand Ninjas were kind enough to take J Man in as one of their own and share their Choco Crack with him.

While enjoying the new exciting Portuguese treat J Man saw what seemed to be a familiar character dancing in the distance.

Thinking it was Zeddy stuck in a dance trance, he ran up to greet his good buddy.

As he got closer he realized it wasn't Zeddy at all. It was actually a young gentlemen by the name of Alvaro. The two conversed on the beach the rest of the day and have now become inseparable. Alvaro, pictured above in the stripes has since invited J man to join his Portuguese folk dance crew.

They'll be touring Portugal for the rest of the month.

One down, a bunch to go...

! made! Through my first week back to work from vacation that is and wow, what a doozy it was. Not sure if its just me but I never feel rested or relaxed after time off. I actually usually feel like I need another vacation. I must be doing something wrong.

See the shades Tman's sporting in the photo above. They're the Mont Royal white stripes, we're all sold out of em. Leave a comment below if you think we should do another run. If you need them right away I did see one pair in the display case at Boardroom on west forth yesterday after lunch. Good luck.

Porters Lake Tahoe Boat PartyOne of the most beautiful things about Lake Tahoe is well….. the lake and there is no better way to enjoy it then with friends. On Saturday evening the Porters Crew headed out on a three hour tour of the lake on the Tahoe Gal, now you must be thinking a “three hour tour” hmmmm there must have been a few Gilligans and some Professors. Not on this three hour tour as it was the “Love Boat”. For those of you that grew up with the Love Boat know the era and the fashion for the kiddies that have no clue take a look at the pictures in this post and you will see our cruise worthy apparel. Lake Tahoe Boating
North Lake Tahoe Boating

We had a few captains, one that was actually navigating the Tahoe Gal, and another whom is our fearless leader, Chappy. We had ladies in lovely 70’s evening attire with furs coats, heels and gold clutches, we had gentlemen in sweaters and action slacks, I do have to say that Burton's Nor Cal rep Trevor Patterson had on a wonderful mustard yellow sweater, and needless to say there were a few Hawaiian shirts and boat shoes! Michelle Parker who is on the Porters team as well as the K2 skis team and Orage was there with some very stylish Vans boat shoes. The outfits of the evening went to Lars our web guy who showed up with two outfits and Aaron Gaines, our warehouse manager who showed up with three things! Notice how I didn’t say three outfits, take a gander at the pictures below and see if you can figure it out.

Tahoe Gal

The Tahoe Gal crew put on a great party for us, the food was great and bartender was doing it right. Chappy brought his computer so we could have some Love Boat era tunes and once the alcohol started to take effect the grooving dance moves started to pop up. At the end of our three hour tour most of us still had sea legs as we exited the boat but that didn’t stop us from heading to our after party at Lakeside Pizza in Tahoe City, formerly known as Pierce Street. Do not be fooled by the new name as it is also a night club and they are doing it right there. With free keg of CL smooth and beats to make you move there was no stopping the Love Boat crew. A few left early as they did most of their drinking on the boat, others stayed to get their dance on and others stayed even later. Rumor has that the club locked the doors and Chappy and a few ladies stayed and dance until three in the morning.

Lake Tahoe

I do have to say the Porters Crew knows how to party and I think I speak for all of us when I say thanks to Kelly and Chap!

I woke up the other morning to the realisation that it's already the month of June. Which means that winter is less than six months away. One reason I suspect the time seems to have gone by so quickly is that, by most standards, the weather this spring has been rather sub-par with cooler than usual temperatures and lots of rain (let's save that precipitation for the winter folks). In the spirit of making the best of it, the Snowboard.Com east coast crew decided to end the month of May with a bang (from a boom stick) by taking in a musical.

The city of Toronto has a rather vibrant theatre scene. Which is not something you would expect snowboarders to notice but we can be highbrow once in a while too. Of particular interest, the Diesel Playhouse was putting on an adaptation of a classic cult zombie movie Evil Dead throughout the spring. When I tell people about it, they usually give me a strange "it's a musical about zombies?" look. I'm quick to point out that It can't possibly be any worse than the opera adaptation of An Inconvenient Truth (an opera about a PowerPoint presentation? Really?) Besides, how often can you say you've been to a musical and left covered in fake blood (I assume it's fake). It's like Shakespeare meets Gwar, how can this possibly suck?

The Ottawa contingent of the crew stayed at the Holiday Inn on King street, only two blocks away from the playhouse. Upon arriving, we shared the elevator with some nice ladies who were in town to see the Dirty Dancing musical at the Princess, and they asked us if we were there for the same reason. Based on my general appearance, I found this question somewhat odd. The look on their face was priceless once we told them we were going to see Evil Dead, and it led me to the conclusion that we probably wouldn't to be going down with them (in the elevator you perverts).

Can you find the snowboarders?
The East Coast Crew waiting to get Evil

After scattering to track down food and beer for later, it was time to meet up with the rest of the crew. Since we were all coming from different directions, and not everyone had actually met in person prior to this meet, the logistics of meeting up were a slight bit difficult. In fact, one of my road trip companions, Chris, called my cell to tell me he was going to meet one of the other members of the crew, also named Chris, whom he had never met previously. I said "you don't know what he looks like, how are you going to spot him on a downtown Toronto street?" His response: "He's a snowboarder." That's when it occurred to me that we snowboarders do live at a different pace than most people (skiers too). Especially in a metropolitan area such as Toronto where people seem to be in much more of a hurry and much more concerned about their image than in most places. I actually had faith, due in no small part to Chris' response, that my shred pals would have no problems finding each other. I was not mistaken, I caught up with the rest of the group in front of the hotel and we made our way to the playhouse.

The musical itself was extremely entertaining. Since it's based on the Evil Dead series of movies (Evil Dead , Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness), we were expecting a certain amount of camp, and this stage show was certainly full of it. It was done in the perfect self-effacing way which rendered it amusing rather than annoying. The actors even joked about how Spider-Man 3 was a horrible movie (Sam Raimi directed the Evil Dead movie). The highlight of the musical was the final battle at where Ash slayed all the zombies (sorry for the spoiler). I have never seen so much fake blood used in my life. It was squirting out of the walls all over the crowd. Fun times.

After the show, stoked on being evil, the crew got up to some pre-drinking at the hotel in preparation for painting the town red (with blood?). After getting nicely warmed up, we were off to find establishments to consume refreshments. Yet somehow this feat could not be managed without a tree being transplanted into the hallway to our hotel. Apparently alcohol turns people into landscapers.

After walking around for a while and ducking into a number of pubs for refreshments, along with some other random shenanigans, it was time to call it a night since the bars were closing. On the way back to the hotel, I received a text message from Chris saying that apparently someone was shot behind the princess theatre. They were cleaning up the scene as he was walking to meet his ride to Whitby. All this time, I was expecting that our musical would prove more violent than Dirty Dancing, which our lovely friends from the elevator were attending. Clearly I was mistaken on that count.

Check out my crazy hair.
Puppet Jesus sitting at the top of the Big Apple in Colborne.

The following morning, we decided to locate a Golden Griddle we had seen the night before to have breakfast before we left. After fueling up on the all you can eat buffet and omelet bar, it was time to hit the road. On the way home, we decided to stop at the Big Apple in Colborne to buy some pies. This is where our trip took on a whole new dimension of cool when picked up an itinerant puppet with long hair, a beard, and some crazy ideas. That puppet turned out to be Jesus (or at least a very striking likeness thereof). The irony in all this is that we found him at a Big Apple which, if memory serves, is the forbidden fruit of the Genesis. Jesus was quick to participate in our road games of "hot or not" and was surprisingly good at it. Although I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since he is the son of god. In any case, Jesus is dope and he's certainly a good road trip companion, a fan of metal and a darn good dancer. When we first picked him up, he was rather subdued. Nathan even thought he was dead but we knew not to worry, "he'll be full of life in three days." It certainly didn't take three days, especially after a can of Saskatoon Beaver Buzz.

The Beaver Buzz turned out to be a bit of a mistake. Although tasty, it must contain some kind of super diaretic because it made me have to pull off the highway to pee. I was going to wait for the gas station restrooms until Jesus pointed out that the world is my gas station rest room. He's so wise. We finally made it home satisfied with our road trip shenanigans and happy for having found Jesus.

In sticking with my usual modus operandi of never walking away from an experience without learning something, here's what I learned this past weekend:

  • Snowboarders are recognisable everywhere. They seem to have a different gate about them.
  • Apparently the Dirty Dancing musical, counter to conventional wisdom, was much more violent that the Evil Dead musical... go figure.
  • Jesus Saves... road trips. Although ours didn't need saving by any stretch. He sure made it more interesting. Keep your eye open for him, you never know where you might find Jesus.

Phew! Those are important life lessons indeed. Now I'm looking forward to my next live theatre excursion. Rumour has it that Monty Python's Spamalot is coming to Toronto in the fall, maybe I'll check that out. I'll be staying away from the Dirty Dancing musical though, that's much do violent for my sensibilities. In the meantime, I'm rejoicing in the fact that there's less than six months until winter and you can bet that I'm counting down the days.

It's 7 in the morning, on the 6th of February and my cell goes off. Its my mom, "Good luck on your trip. Take care!" "Thanks mom, Call you when we get there!" I get out of one of the rest rooms at Remi's place go on his computer to check the various weather sites for the trip. It doesn't look good. Snowfall warnings for the Pine Pass, the very route we must take to our destination, Powderking. Lance and Remi both agree, we must go, we'll beat out the weather and it'll work out. Marc's parents on the other hand aren't so sure. So our Fantastic 4 has now been cut to The Thunderous 3, we aren't happy losing Marc, but the show must go on. So we're on the road by 10:00 in my mini-van with our boards in the Thule and our gear and booze and other stuff in the back. We get to Dawson Creek around noon. Lance picks up a Warstiener Keg at a Liquor store, and we go for lunch at Rockwell's. What a lunch! Such a nice little restaurant with flat-screens a fireplace and free pool, but the food is really what sets it apart. (Best burger I've ever had!) So we continue on, the weather is still blue skies until we hit the Hausler turn-off which is a half-hour past Chetwyne. Its snowing.. pretty hard. I put in my orange-lensed driving sun-glasses. We make it through the pass no problem, all the way to Mackenzie, where we check in at the Willingston Lake Lodge. I call Marc's parents and my own to tell them we made it ok. So we unload our stuff and play some Guitar Hero than go hit Little Mac (The local in-town hill) So we ride a bit, and get a tip about Wing Night at the Legion, so we go there for supper. than we go back to our room, have a couple of beers and call it a day. In the last 24 hours before we got there it snowed 50 cm! We got another 30 while we were there.)

So we get up at 7:30. We get ready and out the door by 8:30. We stop at 7-11 to pick up some Poweraid and other stuff for the day. The temp is -24 with a windchill that makes it feel like -35 on the mountain. But at least theres lots of powder! Almost to much! Every time you fell, it was a battle to get up, since you couldn't touch bottom! So we ride the morning and meet up with the staff of our local hill. (Little Smoky Ski Hill) We have a sick time slashing pow and I get frostbite on my cheeks and fingers, nothing too serious. So we drive back to Mackenzie, hit the local hill again, meet some locals at the hill. Than its closing time and Remi says to me, "I wanna go down the road." "Ok, I'll give you a start push... with the van!" So he gets infront and I send him down the hill, sparks blazing from the odd gravel he hits with his edges. I follow him down. When I get to him, he says "I want those 2 mins. back." I guess it wasn't that fun. So we get back to the Hotel, when my phone rings. "Where are you?" the voice says, I don't recognize. "MacKenzie..." "I know that! Eric's wondering if your coming over to party or not?!" Its Shantel, now I know! "Soon, alright?" "Alright, bye!" so we head over, with our Keg and when we get there, it seems the party has already started. Clem the Hill manager, has already had a few Bud. So we crack the Keg, and have a few with Clem. Before you know it, we empty the thing. So we party there till we get a noise complaint and we decide to jet. Steph and Jocelyn (Sorry if I spelt it wrong! I suck at French!) come back to our Hotel to keep partying. So we have 8 more beers and play Guitar Hero, than out of nowheres, a HUGE pillow fight erupts!!! Its so epic, that we total the room! Mattresses off the beds, crooked paintings, clothes everywheres!! The only thing still clean is the bathroom! So I take the girls back to there Hotel and in turn go to bed when I get back to mine.

So we get up at 7:30 to the radio. We turn on the boob tube to the weather network, -23 with a windchill for the day! Yay... awww crap, the Keg was upside down all night and it leaked on to the bench leaving a big puddle of beer on it, along with making our coupons for our lifts soggly and smelling like beer. But we use them anyways. So we head out and hit P.K. for another day. Total Fun-fest! We freeze our faces off and choke on 3 feet of powder, Skittlely-doo! A good time all round. Another cold Champagne day in the memories of glory and fortune of shred trips. So we get back to Mackenzie and hit the local hill again. At the closing of the hill that night, two girls that we've seen at the hill every night that we've been there come up to me and Remi, and introduce themselves. So we start talking to them and they ask us where we're from and where we're staying. So we finish up our convo, and say goodbye to the two ladies (Which I thought were quite cute.) and go back to our Hotel. We tell Lance of our encounter, and he informs us that they were hitting on us, and it never occured to either of us. I kicked myself for the rest of the night. Than we have some eats and go to our room and relax till its nod off time again.

We get up the next day. Its our rest day, we get out of bed around 11:00. We get lunch at Subway, go to Video Gallery where we rent Robin Williams on Broadway and I buy Tenaicious D and Transformers and we watch Robin Williams than go to hit the local hill, which we find out is closed for the day, but we go and ride it anyways. Lance and Remi ride off the Little Mac's chalet roof, and we Destroy 12 cans of Lucky in Various ways. (Which I had bought for Marc, but myself could never drink.) We hit there box a couple times than me and Remi ride it down the Hill as a Bobsled before leaving. We put everything back tho, I like that little hill. So for supper we go get Chinese, head back to the room, watch Tenacious D and pack up for the next day.

So we get up on the bright. Pick up all our stuff and pack it into the van. We fuel up on gas and food at the 7-11 before we leave Mackenzie for the last day of our trip. We get to P.K., our last day, the nicest day weatherwise, going from -19 in the morning to -11 when we leave. So on our first run, near the top of the mountain, just above Satisfaction, we crack our last 3 beers and cheers the trip. Damn god beers, and we get donw to business. We take full advantage of the day. We ride steady all day, right to the end. We hit some of the best powder and jumps that day. I don't think I could have frowned even if my dog had died that day. It was just that awesome! So we head through the pass. without incondent. Unlike the 3 Semi's we saw in the ditch. So we get to Dawson Creek for supper. We stop at Rockwell's my new favorite restaurant. We have steak and wings and onion rings, and it rocked! So we get to Remi's by 10:00. Tired, but glad we had gone on the trip. So we had a group hug and said our goodbyes. Another Kick-ass trip in my books. Powderking, is a special place, forever part of my heart and my joy. Thank you for being a place of good memories.

P.S: The next day, a massive avalanche takes out the Pine Pass, which we travelled through the day before. Closing it for 3 days. We lucked out, and it feels good!!! LoL! Peace and Powder my Friends!

Beijing, CHINA –

Hundreds of people from all over the world gathered
in the Nokia Nanshan Melow Park under floodlights that could be seen
for miles.  China’s top riders were showing the crowd what this great
country has produced; rail ninjas true and true.

DJ Wordy took to the decks at 8pm with his original hip-hop-to-heavy-
metal-mash-up sound while spectators from near and far headed up to
the park.  The riders jibbed, destroyed and got their grind on in
this rail only event during the one-hour jam session and showed us
all what Chinese snowboarding is about.  The park was in perfect
condition, including the ispo rainbow box made entirely from snow not
to mention free beers were flowing courtesy of Quiksilver and ispo
china.

The riders had only 60 minutes to show what they had and Li Xian Yi
was the first to pull a sick Gap to Flat to BS Boardslide Down which
scored him the first of the crisp cool 50 kuai bills offered by the
judges.  X-Fox was also on point with a couple of mad whirly birds
over the fun box leaving him in the running for Rail Disaster Of The
Night.  Andrew Wilde warmed up and schooled them all with a more then
sick FS to BS Boardslide Combo and we were definitely blown away by
Wanglei who pulled a crazy  Rodeo Back Flip Maneuver over the ispo
Ice Box.  Whew!  All these guys walked away with sick prizes courtesy
of our gracious sponsors.  Even the ladies were on point with Yindi
leading the pack and walking away with a  Dakine wheelie board bag,
not to mention three crisp, cool 50 kuai bills.

With tonight’s giant crowd including some of the biggest names of the
Snowboard industry, The Quiksilver Night Rail Session made history
once again.  This once small but influential event brought the top
riders of this great country together and along with the love from
ispo china and Quiksilver we were able to promote snowboarding and
push our favorite sport even further.

Everyone had a fabulous time and we really could not have asked for a
better night. A special thanks to our sponsors Quiksilver, ispo,
Dakine and Kagen…Yee Haw!

So I'm about to leave to go shred my local hill on the 2nd of February a little hung over from the night before, when I get a phone call, "You coming to the hill today?" Its Clem, the manager of the ski hill. "Ya..." I say. "Ok, good we're going to put in the rails you and your bud (Marc) designed and got built today, I want to get the park done by sunday night." "Alright, I'm on my way" and I'm out the door. I get to the hill, and we go to the bottom, fuel up the Snowcat and take off the groomer. (If you have never ridin' in a Snowcat, it is one of the dopest pieces of equipment ever! Its just a fun ride no matter what! We chain up the first rail, a red Flat-down rail we later name "The Meat-Waggon" we bring it up, we put it in no problem. We have lunch and My new-schooler bud Curtis shows up, minus the gear. He comes and gives a hand to sculpt and groom the area around the Red and Green which we name for the color and not for the size, its a flat beginner rail, about 10 feet long and a foot off the ground, which we also put in with Curtis's help. I get to shred for a half hour that day! Thats it! The hill closes, we put in the blue rail, we call Cookie-monster, which is a 15 foot up-rail, a foot wide with puck-board in the middle, with a 5 foot drop not including the landing which turns it into a 13 foot drop minimum. Than Clem works on the flow of the hill, moving snow to make landings and run ins for the jumps in the park. (7 jumps to be correct... I think) So I go back to the bar that night, the band that was there the night before is back! Awesome! I get drunk, I dance, than me and my bud Josh find some poles.... And we make money pole dancing! And we didn't have to take our clothes off! ROTFL! One of the ladies that was throwing money at me is married to one of my Co-workers (One of his daughters was there also.). And she told him! He thought it was funny! So I go home not totally poor. I get up the next day and back to the hill I go. We put in the last rail, a yellow one, we call it Big-Bird, its a 21 foot battleship rail. We put it in, and I go do the finishing touches on the rails. I ride the rest of the day till 3. I'm sitting in the Chalet, when Patrick walks in (he works at the hill) "Clem wants you." So I get on the radio. "This is Rubber-duckie, What do you need King-of-the-Hill?" "Go try out the Yellow rail." I say "O-K!" I try it out, and it was awesome! "Try out the rest of the park, tell me what you think. But just you and your bro. K?" "O-K, Sir!" By now I am as happy as a kid in a Candy store! So I go get my brain bucket and hit the park. It is total fun! Even if Clem isn't totally done grooming. He gets Pat to shuttle me and my Bro up the hill on a Sled till 5 p.m. It was total fun! I never thought I would get to hit it up before everyone elsa did! Work hard and get something awesome! It works for me.

I'd like to start off by saying, Will Smith is the shi*t! I Am Legend kicked total ass! The mutants, the way he lived..... Wait, I watched that the weekend after the trip. Ok, I got up at 7:00 on the 27th of December. I was up and dressed and running out the door with enough gear for the five day adventure I was about to go on. O yes, Powderking, Western Canada's best place to get that feeling of peaceful mellow shred and a friendly wave from everyone you meet. ( A great f*cking mountain! May it never close!) Not to mention crazy snowfall all season long! ( Thus the name Powderking. Duh! 61 feet last year, what more evidence does anyone need?) So we leave the yard by 8:00, our little convoy, made up of an F-150, a Mini-van, and an Envoy are off  on the 5 hour trek to P.K. As we pass Baytree a town not on any maps except the U.F.A Cardlock location map.... Weird.... As we get passed the little town we hit smoke, lots of smoke, smoke so thick that we're stuck at a 50 km/h crawl for 20 mins. I really wanted to get to P.K. for a half-day of shred, and by 1:00 we are there and it is snowing big flakes. So I get my lift ticket, and up the triple-chair I go. On my way down I run into a group of skiers and snowboarders building a jump on the side of the run. I say hi, we talk about the snow, gear, and the condition of the jump, and before you know it we're shreddin' together and jumpin' off trees into 4-5 feet of powder. (Fastplants and front flips for everyone!) A fine half-day. So we drive to Mackenzie, we check in at The Willingston Lake Lodge. We unpack and unwind with a few beers, some pizza, and Guitar Hero till about 11:00, than lights out.
The next day I go straight for the top, up the T and hikin' towards the bowl. As I get to the boundaries I can't find no trail, broken up into the bowl to speak of. So I start breakin' trail in balls deep powder, ( Its one of the toughest parts of snowboarding, having to hike for some shred but it the end its always worth it.) I get half way up the bowl when I look over to the left and I see two guys with snowshoes a little lower down heading up an already broke trail, I broke trail for nothing! So I start leftward and I meet up with the two guys, we start chatting about the conditions, and I find out there name are Matt and J (Jason) from Wembley and Grande Praire . "Dope, I'm from around a place called Falher." "Frenchtown!" they both say laughing, obviously they've been there before. So we get to the top and sit down for a break, than we strap in. Its still snowing as we head down, the first 20 feet is hard-packed than... BANG! We cut into 3 feet of untouched powder! Straight Champagain! We're cuttin' it hard and every hell slash is a wave of powder to choke on. Beautiful, just beautiful. So we ride on down into the trees, and sweet jesus. Slash and burn, kill and turn, we throw it off anything and everything. A total powder play dream! I'm so stoked on the snow I smile all the way down to the parking lot. Matt and J are staying at the hill in campers in the parking lot with a third member of there group, Dano. We get there and they invite me over for a brew. How can I say no? ( And every run ends that way for the rest of the trip. Those guys we're totally wicked!) So us 4 ride the far left trees up by the 84's and the two creek valley for the rest of the day. The day ends, I tell the guys I'll meet up with them the next day.
Day 3 rools in, and I meet them at there Campers and we head up the mountain. Its snowing, again. We reach the top, and I set up my camera, I want to get and Artsy, Sceneic shot, success. Another piece for EtchaSketch. (Our shred video coming out the summer of 08') Thats all I film that day. Than I pack back up and this time the spot we drop in on is a steep slope with snow sculpted behind and between small trees by the wind, thus making steps that are flat out to about 6 feet and drop down to about 10-12 feet. So we head down popin' off one step, and gaping to the next. One of the funnest abd best rushes of the trip. We keep the fun-fest  up until we hit the tree-line. Than it was Heaven, just like the days before.  I just ride the pow, never giving a second thought of getting any shots for the rest of the day.
The final shred day, day 4. It comes in with sun-light and blue skies. The first of the trip. (We got 8 inches of fresh while we were there.) So this day I ride with my goggle-cam on to catch any wicked shred that goes down. So we ride out into the backcountry and run into a man in his 50's at least, with a Prior split board and the dopest gear I had ever scene. We talked to the guy about the part of the backcountry we were in, and about his gear. He turns out to be the coolest guy I've ever met, truly a snowboarder, a man pure in the sport, he was what snowboarding truly should be. There for the ride and nothing elsa, no sponsors, no attitudes, just the need to shred and have fun. We say our good-byes and good-shreds as we rip down the slope, we never did get his name.... I want to be just like him if I reach 50. On our second last run we come upon an abandoned road on the side of the mountain, it goes through an open spot and is cut slightly into the slope to give the high side a cliff look. Perfect! We all get the idea, road-gap. So we build the jump in the line we want to hit it on. Matt and J hike up to hit it. Its a 30 feet from lip to landing. Matt drops in, lands square on the landing and rides away. We all cheer and the session starts right up. J's up, than Dano, than Matt again, than I hit it with my goggle-cam, as I air over, I hit the landing and get bucked forward onto my face. I get up, not hurting one bit. (Except for my pride.) I hike up again, this time I do a frontside fakie with a Stalefish in the mix, by the the time I stop tumbling, I'm looking up-hill at my feet. Damn, not getting it  but still having fun. (The only person to stick the damn thing was Matt, lucky prick!) So we ride down to the highway and start walking back to P.K. I wave to every vehicle, and got nothing but funny looks, I didn't care, it was one of the best riding days of my life! We're half way back when the owner of P.K. stops with his truck and trailer half loaded with garbage. "Wanna lift? Jump in the trailer!" We all jump in laughing, we keep on laughing all the way to the parking lot. (Thanks for the lift! It smelt bad, but damn did it save my legs.) What a wicked 3 and a half days of riding, awesome snow, awesome crew. I can't wait till I go back.

I'm forever hooked on the P.K. white!!

P.S. On the way back we stopped at the A&W in Chetwyne. They have the hottest group of ladies working at a fast-food joint I have ever seen. Go Chetwyne!!!!!

Paint the Town Red crew along with Stub Films (www.stubfilms.com) and Kontakt Filmproductions would like to Congratulate Jamie Corneal on a stellar performance at the Barn Shack Rail Attack this past Saturday.  Jamie put down on the 40 ft I beam and walked away with 1st place prize money, and some sweet stunts on film too.  Cory Gallon was riding amazing as he usually does and he was award the 'Mufff' best trick and some sweet cash.   P.S.  I think Cory may be one of my fav riders to watch.  We would also like to congratulate Jamie on being one hell of a dancer at the after party.  Dancing on a bar with 5 ladies with your pants down past your ass is true talent and a pretty sight for all.  Janelle Leclair held it down while still in Ontario on a break from world travel.  Janelle was not only one of few ladies' to make it too the end of the beam but she did it with pure steeze and threw it down better then a lot of individuals that were competing.  Big ups J-Nizzle.
