Romain Straps it On

Romain de Marchi says: Stop letting the economic crisis paralyze you; don’t listen to the talking heads on TV news; don’t slow down. Your life and the lives of those around you depend on your passion and stoke.

YOU’VE NEVER HEARD ROMAIN DE MARCHI SAY ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE

MAUI, HAWAII – For a moment there I thought I was pondering the intricacies of the Universe, God, and life with Deepak Chopra – the esoteric Indian doctor, author, philosopher – not Romain de Marchi – ball-to-the-walls, huck-myself-down-any-freakin’-thing – snowboard legend.

Prejudiced with images of his suicidal rippings in epic Absinthe films, tabloid sensationalism knocking him as a party freak, and his tattoo covered body, I went into this, our first longer meeting, thinking it would turn out to be another “shoot the shi*t interview” with another fortunate, yet undeserving rider. I got adjusted, hard.

Romain on Travelling

RDM: When I travel I like discovering different philosophies and new cultures. I try to learn more and more the world. TV I don’t think is a good example to learn the world. To me it’s better to be on the terrain and figure out by yourself. That’s what I’m looking for when I go travel: meet new cultures and new people basically.

SWB: How does riding factor into your travels? Can you describe that stoke that you feel?

RDM: Well, I always… when I’m travelling, it’s not really the places you go to, but the experience you share with people. I like the fact that when I go to different resorts, I meet different people and they give me their stoke-ness of wanting to share with me their culture, their mountain and their way of seeing their mountain. That’s what I appreciate a lot when I get to see different places. So, that’s what really stokes me out.

Romain on Fatherhood

SWB: I saw your daughter Annella there. Tell me about her!

RDM: Well, she’s almost 2 years old and she’s growing up by the minute. She’s a fan of Dora as you can see on the T-Shirt and she loves her mama a lot. No, it’s fascinating, I mean, it’s ahhhh, it makes you more mature, makes you go forward in life, to be able to see your kids, the way they interpret life, to see their innocence and their soul. I think it gives you a lot of inspiration! They really inspire me.

SWB: so how did you start to feel in riding after you became a parent? Were there differences in your behavior after you became a parent?

RDM: Yeah, a lot of people said: now that you have a kid your ride should be different, you should be more cautious. Actually for me it went the other way around. I’m more crazy now than before. It really pushed me to go out there and do what I love. Now more than ever, I do it for more and more reason. First it was just for me when I was younger, but now it’s also for my daughter and my kids because I want them to feel my passion and translate that to them, so now I go out there and try to get as stoked as I can, so when I get home they can see how happy I am to do what I love to do and they can feel that. So for me it went the other way around.

SWB: interesting! So she made you live life even more to its fullest?

RDM: Even more.

Romain on the World Economic Recession

RDM: I’m not gonna say it doesn’t affect me. It affects everybody, but, I think that many people live in fear and they’re like “ohhh no, I can’t do this, I can’t do that.” People have been brainwashed with that and they’ve stopped living. I bet if each individual in the world like they did before the crisis, everything would be good, because money would still be spent, people would still be happy and do happy things and the world would still go around. Now everybody is watching TV saying “ohhh no, I can’t do this, because the TV said it’s fear, it’s economic, and it’s the world war, the terrorism and what not…” I think that’s pretty sad that people have been brainwashed like that and have stopped living just because some dude said it on TV. Of course, the economy isn’t as good now, but I think we are as much responsible for it as the people who are leading our country. I think we should keep living and everything is going to be fine.

SWB: ohh man, that’s a great insight. People paralyze themselves by listening to these so-called experts on TV and…

RDM: yeah, it’s been like that for centuries, you know like, create fear so that we can control people. I try to have my own opinion. I know times are hard, but it’s hard for everybody, but you keep living and if you can’t pay the mortgage one day and what not, then well, sell the house and do something else. The world is not going to end just like that. We have many options in life, so it’s not worth worrying about a mortgage or things like that.

Romain on Back Protection and Why Everyone Should Wear One

RDM: For sure it gives you extra confidence. If I hit a rock at least I have the Slytech 2nd Skin to protect my spine.

But I also try not to rely on it too much, because then you forget how your muscles work in your body; they are the first armor, right?

The Slytech 2nd Skin is more prevention. It’s not because I have a back protector that I’m going to launch a bigger thing. Whether I ride the resort or I jump, I always wear it in case something happens. It’s a precaution. It’s not like, “ohhh yeah, I’m just going riding the resorts, so I’m not going to put it on.” No, I put it on anyway.

Whether big jump or not, you know, now that I’m getting older, I got a family, so I kinda need to have that extra protection for me. But I’m not forgetting as well that my body is my first armor. For my state of mind it’s more uhhh… like in a car, you can have one airbag or you can have 5 airbags. Same thing with second skin: I’d rather have more airbags than just 1.

SWB: There are all kind of back protectors out there. What was it about Slytech 2nd Skin to make you choose to use it?

RDM: It’s easy to put on. It’s really comfortable to wear it. The good thing is, the foam they use, it’s really molding your back, so you really don’t feel it. I’ve tried other ones and they’re really uncomfortable. They’ve been using that for dirt biking at first. I feel pretty confident: dirt bikers get more beat up than snowboarders. When they fall, they hit the hard ground! Snow is soft. It makes you feel even better that it’s tested by dirt bike people.

SWB: How were you introduced to the Slytech people?

RDM: What went down is… basically, I got hooked up with Shred and they said, “hey, you want to try the Slytech 2ndSkin?” and I’m like “YEAH SURE!” They sent me some and I went riding and I didn’t feel it. I went riding all day and I didn’t feel it at all, “OK, wow! This is a freakin great product!” You have it on and it’s extra precaution for you and it doesn’t even bother you; it doesn’t even make you uncomfortable when you ride so I was like “yeah right on! This is a great product, so let’s do something with it!”

SWB: Would you recommend a back protector for non-professional athletes?

RDM: Yeah, I would recommend all the protection they can get. Most of the time, beginners just sit on a hump on the slope and if a skier or snowboarder just comes up from behind and BOOM, it could paralyze them. But if you have a back protector, it might save you from that. Helmet, back protectors are key.

As I left that interview, I never thought that I – as a philosophy guy living in Hawaii with all the inspiration I need around me – would have walked away with so much newfound inspiration to go for whatever I could possibly conceive of.

I want to publicly thank Romain de Marchi for sharing the inspiring stoke he collects through his experiences as a shredder, a father, a world traveler and as a free spirit (the snowboarding world’s own mini Deepak). Thanks also for believing in and endorsing the Slytech Back Protector. It took many years to develop and test, and now that it’s available to the general public we hope it will be as universally loved.

About Slytech Protection
The team and riders at Slytech Protection feel that life is best lived with maximum passion, confidence, comfort and protection (comfortable protection). We’re based around a rider's love for shredding and being free, to keep pushing the limits and to give yourself the chance to get up and ride again. Being sidelined with a bad spinal injury is the last thing we want, and so comfortable back protection is the first thing we grab.

The twin ninja babies are here! We love Mexico. Kale..

Congrats Tadashi and Yuko on the cutest twin ninja babies I've ever seen. Can't wait to meet them.

Its a fact, we love mexico. I remember. not too clearly but I do remember celebrating Halloween dressed as what we "drunk Canadian teens" thought mexicans looked like for something like 3 years in a row.

The photo above of Dev and Kale was taken somewhere around 98. I think we dressed up as mexicans for like 3 halloweens in a row... It only took us roughly a decade to finally come out with a goggle dedicated to the special little place in the world that blessed us with fish taco's, salsa, guacamole and terrible hangovers. Better late than never. Mexico, this ones for you!

Kale news: Kale has devised a new method of remembering all the super important things he has to do on a daily basis.

Ladies and Gentlemen, can I please have your attention...

Our office is located in East Vancouver. For those who don't know East Van has a bit of a bad rep. Everyday I show up for work there's something weird going on. Here's just a taste of what I witnessed Today.

Actually this isn't that weird, its my collection of old skate shoes. If I actually still skated there'd be way more up there.

This was in the way of the first place I was gonna park, no biggie but then I

Roll up to the next spot and See Mic Mac invited a buddy to live next to him on our street.

Steve scored the only decent parking spot left on our street snuggled in tightly to some old mattresses.

When we told Dave about the old mattresses he rushed right out and tried to 3 flip them.

As I capture the moment our good buddy Birdie strolls by. Just a warning if you run into Birdie in our hood or at the Bourbon on any given Thursday night... He's more of an outdoor, keep a good distance, don't actually talk to him, just take a photo while you're driving by and hope he doesn't throw anything at you type bud. We tight though..

Dev "the boss man" gets another TWS cover!

Here's the cover of the September issue of Transworld Snowboarding.

Dev was the only one out of the crew to hit this death gap. When "the crew" includes Jussi Oksanen and Andrea's Wiig it really puts into perspective how insane the gap is. Dev truly is the King of modern day back country riding. It's gotta be the goggles.. Look out for his part in Double Decade. He'll blow your mind... Again!

Zeddy called me to say: Hey did you know Todays international sex day!

Update from J man's Portuguese vacation:

Only J Man would meet sand ninjas on his first day in Portugal. I was skeptical too till he sent me this photo to back up the story.

The sand Ninjas were kind enough to take J Man in as one of their own and share their Choco Crack with him.

While enjoying the new exciting Portuguese treat J Man saw what seemed to be a familiar character dancing in the distance.

Thinking it was Zeddy stuck in a dance trance, he ran up to greet his good buddy.

As he got closer he realized it wasn't Zeddy at all. It was actually a young gentlemen by the name of Alvaro. The two conversed on the beach the rest of the day and have now become inseparable. Alvaro, pictured above in the stripes has since invited J man to join his Portuguese folk dance crew.

They'll be touring Portugal for the rest of the month.

One down, a bunch to go...

! made! Through my first week back to work from vacation that is and wow, what a doozy it was. Not sure if its just me but I never feel rested or relaxed after time off. I actually usually feel like I need another vacation. I must be doing something wrong.

See the shades Tman's sporting in the photo above. They're the Mont Royal white stripes, we're all sold out of em. Leave a comment below if you think we should do another run. If you need them right away I did see one pair in the display case at Boardroom on west forth yesterday after lunch. Good luck.

Magic Kales stump back mountain

Kale just got back from nearly a week at Super park with Jbone & Paavo filming for both Airhole and 8mile. On the first day he slide back first over a huge stump located in one of the landings just barely missing his spine. It put him out for a couple days but he still managed to get a couple tricks on the last day of his trip.

Instead of flying directly back to Vancouver Kale stopped over in Vegas to hang with his man Chris Angel, the latest addition to Airhole squad. According to Kale they're working on a new "sexy magic theme" for the 09/10 line of Ninja masks. When asked about their insta-relationship Angel quickly breaks it down for us "Kale blows minds boarding they same way I blow minds with my magic. We're both at the top of our game so it cool just vibing off each other, the energy's wild. You're gonna see this energy unfold first hand through my new "extreme" blend of Chris Angel magic which I'll be showcasing in the Airhole movie out this fall. Hopefully I'm as big of an inspiration to Kale as he has been to me. Who knows, you may even see a magic trick or two in Kales part??".

It blows my mind that Christian groups in the United States are boycotting "The Golden Compass."  If their beliefs are as strong as they believe them to be then surely they can take a little questioning.
Here is a great read from Mark Moford regarding this issue.
-----

It has become a rule, some sort of law of the popular culture upon which any open-minded human worth her soul can rely with utter and perfect clarity.

It goes like this: If there is a piece of art, a TV show, a column, a book, a movie, a blog, a movement, a wine bottle or sexual position that somehow deeply threatens the various ultraconservative sects of Christian-blasted America to the point where their pale, dour representatives demand boycotts and distribute angry pamphlets to try to stop people from experiencing said hunk of culture because of how negatively it portrays their seething, condemnatory God, well, it's time to break out the Champagne. Or buy that book. Or get very, very naked. Or all of the above.

So it is with the first movie made from Philip Pullman's astonishing "His Dark Materials" trilogy, "The Golden Compass," a complex, mystically gorgeous, spiritually dense, big-budget fantasy epic so far removed from the cute wizardry of Harry Potter and the thin, childish, monochromatic Christian morality of, say, "The Chronicles of Narnia," that it might as well be a Coen brothers movie. On acid.

Oh my God yes - they are protesting. They are pamphleting. From the Catholic League and Focus on the Family to evangelical/fundamentalist Christian blogs from here to Colorado Springs, they are calling on their trembling armies to boycott the film because they believe that Pullman's brilliant books - which, by the way, if I had the power, I would place in the eager hands of every youngish human on the planet, especially the girls - are not only aggressively anti-Christian, but that they also describe, as their grand finale, nothing less than the death of God. This is what they say.

And here is the terrific thing: They are absolutely right.

But let's be a bit more specific, shall we? Because as any fan of "HDM" knows, it ain't really about God, per se. Pullman's luminous novels have nothing to do with rejecting faith or destroying the spirit or inhibiting the exploration of what it means to be divine. They are, in fact, the exact opposite. They relish spirit and the magic of belief and love, are soaked through with divine inspiration of a kind any intelligent Christian (or honest spiritual seeker of any stripe, for that matter) should crave. This is what makes them so incredible.

The nefarious thing the books aim to kill is religious authority. It's about the destruction of dogma. It's about power, about who wants to control and manipulate life on Earth, about the blind, ignorant, even violent adherence to insidiously narrow codes of thought, belief, behavior, sex, desire and love.

This, of course, is the God of organized religion. This is the false deity that promotes numb groupthink, inhibits growth and abhors the feminine divine (perhaps the books' most beautiful, inspiring theme), the same paranoid, dreadful God that votes for George W. Bush because he will smite the icky gays and protect us from vile pagans and Buddhists and Muslims and feminists and frumpy genius atheist British writers. If humanity is to flourish, to get over its addiction to war and guilt and fear, this is the false God that should - that must - die.

Although the books have as their evil antagonist a sinister cabal called the Magisterium (obvious parallel: Catholic Church), they also have a slew of dark characters in service of the Magisterium, various assassins, double agents and robot drones running around trying to annihilate the children's spirit, destroy magic and lock down faith forever. Let us call these robotic drones, oh, say, the Catholic League. Or Focus on the Family. Gosh, no wonder they're a little peeved.

But it's almost too easy, is it not? Even a child can see that these people are so far from true spirit, so far from open consciousness, it's a bit like comparing a lint ball to a cloud bank, a dung beetle to a flower bed. They are spiritual caricatures, the creepy clowns in organized religion's gloomy circus, all scrunched brows and gnarled hands and so much repressed sexuality that it would make a porn star wince. Really, why give their silly protests any attention at all?

For one thing, because these groups have proven that they can be highly dangerous, utterly toxic to the culture as a whole. You already know the list - FCC crackdowns, stem cell research, ultraconservative judges, abstinence education, anti-choice laws, vicious homophobia, intelligent design, the rejection of science - all of which aim for the creation of a fascist theocracy in America.

In fact, director Chris Weitz, who adapted "The Golden Compass" for the screen, reportedly removed any direct mentions of God or religion from the film version, fearing, along with New Line Cinema, some sort of Christian conservative backlash. Fans were, appropriately, outraged. It remains to be seen how much of those vital themes Weitz left intact, but you could argue that the Bible-thumpers have already taken their sad toll.

(But I do look forward to the bloodcurdling screams that will surely come from these groups when they see the third film, which, if the creators hold at all true to the original book, and presuming the movie gets made at all, features a pair of wonderful, immensely powerful, tragic gay angels.)

It might not matter. With any luck, and if "The Golden Compass" turns out to be even half as wondrous as the book, it will hopefully fuel a surge in sales of the "HDM" trilogy in America and, perhaps, inspire a new literary awakening among young readers, darker and more complex and even (gasp) slightly sexual, far beyond the clever but innocuous magic of Harry Potter - which, by the way, had its share of religious bonk-jobs calling for its destruction, as wizardry is clearly the dominion of the devil. We all know what a huge drop in sales that protest caused.

But there is another note of good news from this tale of fear and whining and outcry, and it takes the form of another delightful rule upon which your soul can happily rely, as well as a heartfelt lesson for trembling ultraconservative sects everywhere.

It's this: If your ancient, authoritarian, immutable belief system is threatened by a handful of popular novels, if your ostensibly all-powerful, unyielding creed is rendered meek and defenseless when faced with the story of a fiery, rebellious young girl who effortlessly rejects your stiff misogynistic religiosity in favor of adventure, love, sex, the ability to discover and define her soul on her own terms, well, it might be time for you to roll it all up and shut it all down and crawl back home, and let the divine breathe and move and dance as she sees fit. Don't you agree?

Hallo guys, my year was pretty fun actually, from parties to slopes, from contests to special events, from hard training days far away home, to really charming moments with the closest friends & crew.
A taste of different cultures & snowboard reality.I flied to  natural terrains i parks to film the esence of the snowboard, and one of those greatest places was Colorado, ridin' Aspen, Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge & Copper, With the support of real people with real style, real problems, real rockstar life, real funny faces, ones that will be drawn on my mind till' i dead.

This pic was taken, on the Slopestyle terrain at Breckenridge CO. USA.by Daniel  in the videocamera.
"i really felt it, see Jp flyin' to the next level in his beginner snowboard carreer is funny"
    Breckenridge CO. freeway park terrain.

This pic was taken by Otton, in an improvised kicker with a snow cliff to land near the Hotel Tres Puntas.
really fun shooting with the Still Underage new filming crew, Santiago and Lucas Perez, Iñaqui and me supported by OTTON BEANIES HAHA. Baka from Burton is in the videocamera.

"IN MEMORY" street session in Santiago. after the first snow in the city, we drive by, and hook up with some friends to shoot this rail.(first attempt in the history was taken last year by Pepo Parker RIPow dawg!, best rider, trainer, person, boyfriend, brother, workperson & son ever!) iñaqui irarrazabal AKA thashupael BLAER! kill it!

haha! well first of all...this was a dumb ass story of a film day with Heikki Sorsa & Shaun White, we where on a rock drop, just takin' a look and Santiago planned to drop it when this guys were filming, so the magic happens and he totally broke the landing so Heikki start to shout like crazy man! Inspiration is a wonderful thing, it's the origination point of art and encourages people to do the most amazing feats. Where to find inspiration, however, is not always clear and varies among individuals. Do you know where you find inspiration? What inspires you to do the things that you do? Sometimes that inspiration comes from less than obvious places.

The other day I went to the skate park with the Warrinator for our usual lunch-time "get away from work" session. On this day, my partner in crime was intent on doing a particular trick that he had tried many times yet could not find the courage to commit to it (concrete bowls are scary). Over the course of the session, he tried it a number of times and, from where I was standing, I could tell that he had it if he would only just commit to dropping back into the bowl. Each time he would come back to the starting point frustrated at the fact that he just didn't have the balls to do it. This went on for a while until we noticed a new face at the park; a female face. She immediately went over to the big bowl and dropped in a couple times to test it out, then proceeded to get her shred on Jason Jesse style.

You want to do WHAT to my knee pads?!?.While the Warrinator was busy checking out the new park resident, admittedly not at all unattractive, I decided to take a quick rip through the park. As I was cresting up onto the flat bank to stop, I saw Warren drop into the bowl and hit the trick he had been trying all session without any hesitation. As soon as he got back I laughed and said "Dude! You're in love aren't you?" I can't verify this but I think he might have blushed just a little.

On the ride back to work, we were discussing the new member of the Legacy clan. "You've found your new muse haven't you?" I said as we pulled into the gas station so Warren could buy smokes. "I'll be back in two shakes of the hot girl's knee pads" he said as he walked into the store. As he got back to the car, smokes in hand, I said, "I didn't catch that when you went into the store, did you say two shakes of the hot girl's knee pads or two shakes from the hot girl *on* her knee pads?" This was followed by laughter and much more conversation that was not really relevant to the point of the point of this article; notably:

  • Sometimes inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places.
  • Other times inspiration is in plain sight and gives you a strange feeling in your pants (as I think may have been the case with the Warrinator).
  • Although dangerous, hanging out at the skate park is a great way of meeting new and interesting people. Besides, when Warren and his new girlfriend are naked together, they can compare skate scars: "I got this one when I fell on my face, I like to fall on my face".

Well, that's pretty much all I have to say this week, however, the next time I find my own inspiration you can be sure that you'll be reading about it here. In the meantime does anyone know what that song is during the segment at Turf in Santa Cruz' Streets on Fire skate video? I'm pretty sure it's a Sonic Youth jam. Hopefully the answer will be forthcoming. Until then...

Keep shreddin' the GNAR!

About the film...

LOST AND FOUND is the story of the extraordinary season of 2006.07 as seen through the eyes of world-class skiers and snowboarders. With global drought persisting and ski resorts closing around the world, athletes are forced to follow the snow, sending them deep into the uncharted north country of Alaska and Canada – including of course – the
Whistler area. Filmed almost entirely in North America, LOST AND FOUND is a testament to the terrain and conditions that only exist in the Western Hemisphere.

It wouldn’t be complete without mind-blowing performances by some of our favourite Whistler athletes, Ian McIntosh, Dana Flahr, Kye Petersen, and Victoria Jealouse. McIntosh returns to try one-upping the films best breakthrough performance in last year’s film – his own – while Flahr is pumped on his return from injuries, and it shows. Once again, the Whistler crew pretty much shows the pros how we rock here in Whistler, and well, how last winter rocked us.
This film will take you into the vast, unexplored Tordrillo Mountains of Alaska, proving that some of the best big mountain riding in the world is still completely undiscovered. Athletes take advantage of the bountiful winter in British Columbia, hit disturbing park features in Aspen and score over-the-head powder pillows at Skeena Heliskiing.
The winter of 2007 was feast or famine; LOST AND FOUND documents the feast.

The Step it Up series brought to Whistler a new bread of event bringing guest speakers into a bar environment to educate the young hip and cool crowd of Whistler about different themes relating to the protection of our environment including the wellness of our own body, mind and spirit.

Surfrider Foundation in WhistlerLike it’s previous events, Hilltrip’s goal with the Step it Up series was to fight global warming. With an event every month from November 2006 to April 2007, the series included six different educational sessions about sustainability with a global warming twist. Through the whole series, Hilltrip was able to raise $550 to benefit the Snowrider Project of Surfrider Vancouver and a lot of people learned about ways to become a better steward of the environment and themselves.

Starting with a Sustainable Mountains Session in November , Step it Up no1 sent a strong message to the snow sport industry by having Jonaven Moore, a renown professional snowboarder, do a presentation on global warming and how negative PR is affecting our understanding of the issue, well timed after Tyler Bradley, the environmental chemist behind the creation of the first environmentally friendly ski wax in the world; Hillbilly Wax-Works & Ethica Enviro-Wax who had a satirical look at the state of the snow sport industry itself.

DJ Mat The Alien in WhistlerStep it Up no2 being close to Christmas, Hilltrip thought educating people about how making informed choices during the holiday season would help them reduce their environmental footprint and be good for their own body environment and organized a Sustainable Food Session. The session covered the concepts of SLOW food with Diana Rochon, RAW food with Sarinda Hoilett, SUPER food with Randall Carpenter and there was a slide show to give ideas to people on how they can green their holidays.
If you are interested you learn about how you can GREEN Christmas Holiday click here >>

Yoga in WhistlerFor the third Step it Up, we decided to do something a bit different than the usual sustainable environment type event by having an Awakening Session and introduce a spiritual approach to sustainability. We believe awareness and consciousness can play a big role in improving someone’s life and the world. For the occasion, we had Kelly Oswald of The Oracle, Tina James of World Yoga Within and Robbie Dagg & Friends with OM MANI PADME HUM.

The fourth session was done in conjunction with Surfrider Vancouver. The theme was Sustainable Watershed and Pina Belperio of Whistler Water Watch and June Van Der Star of Surfrider did great presentations followed by a Sea to Summit, a video where snowboarders, skateboarder, and surfers are talking about the entire hydrological cycle and how it relates to their day to day life. Following the session, we had the Enviro-Mental Showdown Party following the qualifier of the Showcase Showdown, an annual snowboard competition.

The fifth one was a Sustainable Energy Session and we had Sarah Valentine giving a few tips on how we can reduce our energy consumption easily and than Hilltrip went all out and presented 15 documentaries about energy and climate change over 2 days as part of the Sierra Club Energy Film Festival.
You can read more about the Energy Film Festive by clicking here >>
Step it Up in Whistler
As a way to end the series, Hilltrip teamed up with a bunch of local artists to present an Expression Session on Earth Day, April 22nd, and the last day of the World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF) this year. Kostaman & The Vibrations opened at 7pm with a few reggae songs, Angie Nolan and MollyFi followed with poems and spoken words, Daniel Poisson, Chris Dyer, Olivier Roy, Jon Parris and Stan Matwychcuk had art pieces on display, Chili Thom & Feet Banks came to show their short film “High in the Mountain”, Animal Nation did a few raps, and Rainbo performed a hula hoops go-go set to the sound of DJ Parris. During the evening we also had the OxyMoron Martini, a heathy martini containin FrequenSea.

This last Step it Up event was also the launch of Green.Colonies.com in Whistler! It is also during that event that the winner for the Surf trip, the Option Snowboard, the SPY goggle and the O’Neill goodies were draw. There was so much going on, it was a great way to close the festival and the series in beauty.

Thanks to Whistler Brewing Company, Clif Bar, O’Neill, Deep Snow and Surf Experience, Option Snowboards and Spy for sponsoring the Step it Up series, Maxx Fish Bar & Lounge for letting us host the series, Surfrider Vancouver for setting an information table at each event, the speakers and artists for their performances and inspiration as well as all the people that have helped make this series of event happen…Nadia Cote, Marie-Lou, Giselle, Haley, Elexa, Sarah, Andrew, Adrian and all of those who came.

My Journal: Creek
By: LeSereine

Every Weekend...

It's the same roads...

The same scenery...

The same place...

The same people...

I hardly fight for change, unless life warrants it....But life is good when there is stability and the comfort of familiarity....

While some friends headed up North, I opted to stay behind and get the most of out of my season pass. I sure needed to with the late season start.

So I found myself everday of this long weekend at Creek, the best I've seen it the past few years, especially with the consistency of the conditions....The season did start late for us Jersey folk, but I can't complain. Every outing has been short of perfection since the mountain's opening....

It was just plain good.....With the sunshine and the soft snow....It was even better when I ran into some old friends whom I haven't seen since my first years riding....We stuck together for most of the day, like little school girls in a candy store, forgetting what life brings from the nine to fives and the late weeknights...

Riding took us away for a bit....like it always does...Into a world we wished we could live a little longer...No worries, just fun. No commuting headaches, just lift lines. No co-workers, just friends. No meetings, just mingling. No contemplations, just inspiration. No stress, just happiness..

Creek is just a short drive from my home, but it is always the best drive this time of year..And the half hour or so it takes to get there, it always seems worlds away...At least that is where it takes me when I get there...And we all need that time to time....

And as little as this mountain may be compared to others I've been to, it's nice to have something so close to home...Because it's not where you are, it's what you make of it.....

One evening, I asked my eldest daughter how her homework was coming along. "Terrible," she said, "I have to read the Odyssey. Of what relevance is a story about some Greek who was supposed to have lived thousands of years ago to me today?" I picked up her copy of the Immortal Bard's epic poem and fondly remembered when I had read it as a high school freshman more than 30 years earlier. But while I had always enjoyed mythology, my daughter was no fan of Hellenic legend. In an attempt to motivate her with this assignment, I told her, "Sherri, although I didn't know it at the time, this book showed me how to set a world record and gave me a new lease on life. If you'd read it with an open mind, it just might do you some of the good it did me." To prove my claim, I told her the story of my odyssey.

When I entered New Trier in 1963, I was well aware of its reputation as the "Harvard of High Schools" because of its lofty academic standards and the achievements of its students. Many considered the school's crown jewel to be its English Department. Incoming freshman cut their teeth on the Odyssey, and my love of mythology made this assignment one of my more enjoyable school tasks.

But we were taught more than the Homeric account of Odysseus' return to Ithaca from Troy. In every myth lay some grains of truth. Some of those facts I verified in my Ancient World History class. I read of Heinrich Schliemann's excavations in Asia Minor during the late Nineteenth Century where several "Troys" were unearthed. I was also taught that the men who destroyed those cities were the ancestors of the people who established the Greek civilization. Odysseus personified those men. When Rome conquered Greece, the story of the clever Greek gained a wider audience and he became better known by his Latin name, Ulysses.

I read other books in English and studied other peoples in history, but I never forgot the Odyssey. What made it unforgettable to me was the drive that compelled Ulysses to overcome insurmountable obstacles on a ten- year voyage home after fighting a decade-long war. Was his compulsion fictional like the poem or was Homer aware of some force that explained this extraordinary drive? I didn't know but hoped that one day I would find the answer to my question.

New Trier not only taxed the minds of its students but their bodies as well. Physical education exposed pupils to a variety of sports and other physical endeavors. I enjoyed gym because I had always been athletically inclined and had established a daily physical fitness program consisting of five calisthenic exercises. After eight months I had become quite proficient in the push-up.

Students were tested annually in five physical fitness tests, one of which was the push-up. Since my personal best was 200, I felt confident that I could break the school record. When tested, however, I performed only 123 push-ups, four shy of a new standard. The classmate who counted my total sensed my disappointment and suggested that I lighten up because I had just proved that push-ups were as simple as one, two, three. Outwardly, I smiled at his joke but inwardly I had become a push-up perfectionist and felt that I had failed.

Solace was found in the words of Jascha Heifetz, the concert violinist, who said, "There is no such thing as perfection, there are only standards. And after you have set a standard you learn that it was not high enough. You want to surpass it." In an effort to be able to perform calisthenic totals close to my personal bests anytime, I established daily minimum repetitions for all of my exercises and began to increase those minimums.

Late that fall and the following winter, I tried out for and earned positions on both of New Trier's Freshman and Sophomore Gymnastic Squads. During a January practice, a member of the varsity team told me that he didn't believe my push-up total and challenged me to perform 100. Picking up the gauntlet, I made a believer out of him. Successfully meeting this challenge energized me. Still flush with victory and feeling especially "good" during my workout the next day, I performed 222 push-ups. Twenty-four hours later, I still felt "good" and shattered my performance of the day before by ticking off 333 push-ups. Two weeks later, the "good" feeling returned and I executed 444.

I owed my January push-up records to Heifetz's maxim of raising standards. Every day I performed at least one more push-up than the day before. I was like a mountain climber, using these minimums as "base camps" from which I could launch new push-up heights when feeling "good." But the greatest result of my three new personal bests was the breaking of a psychological barrier. Until that time, I was convinced that records could only be broken by small increments. By more than doubling my personal record in less than three weeks, I knew that I didn't have to settle for being merely good at the push-up, I could be great.

How great was an open question. The summer before, I read the Guinness Book of World Records. I found that the book listed records for two of my exercises, sit-ups and chin-ups, but not push-ups. I did, however, have an inkling of what that record was. Several years before while watching the TV show "People are Funny," one of the guests was the world push-up champion who had set a standard of 3,000. I set my sights at exceeding that number and dreamed of my name in the Guinness Book. By the spring, my daily workouts consumed so much of my time that I decided not to go out for the track and field team as a pole vaulter. But my sacrifice of this sport was not in vain. I kept raising the base number of push-ups I performed daily and waited for days when I felt "good" to set new records. By the end of my freshman year, my personal best stood at 2,002 push-ups.

On a day in late July, I executed 3,003 push-ups. But my dream for inclusion in the Guinness Book was dashed. After mentioning my achievement to a friend, he informed me that a Marine had performed 5,000 push-ups. So it was back to completing at least one more push-up than the day before. More than a year passed before the "good" feeling returned. In late August 1965, I performed 4,004 push-ups. The "good" feeling returned four days later and I executed 5,005. Barring some new revelation, I was the world's unofficial push-up champion. Now it was time to put it all together, a record-breaking effort in front of witnesses to make it official.

I decided to go for it during the physical fitness tests administered at school. The year before, I performed 1,000 push-ups, the most I could squeeze into a gym period. This time, I had obtained permission to sign out of a last period study hall and finish the test after school.

On October 5, 1965, I reported to the gym for my junior year push-up test. As I stretched out on a mat, I felt a bit apprehensive. Up until that time, all of my personal best efforts hadn't been planned but rather took place on days that I felt "good." I asked myself, "Can I make this day 'good'?"

After three hours of continuous exercise, my fears had proven groundless. I passed my personal best of 5,005 push-ups and felt so "good" that only the sky was the limit. However, at 5,900, the test administrator informed me that he would stop the exam when I reached my pre-test target of 6,006. For the next fifty push-ups, I pleaded with him to let me continue. But as the responsible adult in charge, he wanted to be sure that I wasn't doing something physically damaging to myself without knowing it. If I didn't stop, he'd sit on me to ensure test termination.

After performing my 6,006th push-up, I stopped and received a round of applause from an audience of about twenty students. The test administrator announced that he was reporting my feat to the newspapers and that any future record-breaking effort by me would have to be monitored by a medical doctor. When I arrived home, dinner had already been served so I ate alone. While dining, I thought about what I had just accomplished.

I had succeeded beyond my wildest expectations. Deep in my heart, I knew that every drop of sweat, every hour of training, and every personal sacrifice I had made to achieve this record had been worth it. I was on top of the world and I liked the view. As Christmas grew near, I began planning to break my own record. After all, I had been stopped when I knew I could do more. Push-ups had become an obsession. Heifetz was right, even though my standard was now the best in the world, it wasn't enough. I felt that I had to surpass it.

To achieve that new standard, I'd need a "good" day, witnesses, and medical supervision. But my quest to discover the limit for my favorite exercise was never realized. Sixty-nine days after breaking the world push-up record, I broke something else, my neck, during a gymnastics practice and was permanently paralyzed.

As I lay in my hospital bed, I looked toward the future and saw only darkness. The body I had worked so long and hard to develop now failed to respond to my commands and imprisoned me. I worried that I would never be able to work or take care of myself and would be a burden on my family. Fears that I might die were replaced by the dread that I would live.

But while my body was shattered, my spirit, although badly bruised, was still intact. I decided to fight back and redirected the effort that had made me a champion toward the arduous task I hoped would lead to my physical independence.

During my rehabilitation, I harkened back to my quest for the push-up record when the going got rough. Knowing that I was capable of achieving what other people considered impossible, I did all that was asked of me and more. I lived in a world of three colors. Black represented the things I couldn't do, white the activities I could. Between these two tones were many shades of gray. I concentrated on this tint and through trial and error discovered what was truly light and dark. While doing so, I brightened my world to an extent that surprised my doctors, nurses, therapists, and me.

When I saw my name in the 1968 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, my spirit was buoyed and I worked even harder. When the next edition came out two years later, my situation had greatly improved and I was attending the University of Illinois.

In 1973, I graduated, married, and continued my education. Two years later, I began a career as a federal civil servant. Shortly after, I was informed that my record had been broken. I wrote to Guinness for confirmation and my letter was forwarded to Robert Knecht, a professional acrobat. He answered my letter by stating that he had trained for eight years to perform 7,026 consecutive push-ups. "My hat is off to you," he wrote, "Your record was a tough one to beat."

Sherri interrupted and said that while my story was interesting, I hadn't told her how reading the Odyssey helped me set my record or gave me a new lease on life. I responded by asking her what question did I ask myself as a high school freshman. When she answered, "what motivated Ulysses," I told her of a book I had read several years earlier, The Ulysses Factor by J.R.L. Anderson. It was the author's premise that "There is some factor in man, some form of special adaptation which prompts a few individuals to exploits which, however purposeless that they may seem, are of value to the survival of the race." Anderson had found that the grain of truth to the Odyssey was that Homer knew that in the soul of man there is a factor driving him to firsthand discovery. Although this factor is present in all humans, it is highly developed in only a few. In times of trouble, those few lead themselves and others to safety.

Homer personified this factor in the character of Ulysses. The hero of the Odyssey wasn't driven around the Mediterranean by the whim of the gods alone. He drove himself. Once committed to the fight, there was no stopping him. Even though he was eager to return home, he had to know what was across the sea, over a range of hills, and beyond the horizon. History proved Homer correct. Conquerors and explorers who followed were also driven by this force that compelled them to unveil the unknown.

After all the seas were crossed and the land was explored, men invented new challenges to satisfy this compulsion. Some explored the polar regions, climbed mountains, and sailed across the oceans alone in small boats. Others were athletes who prepared their bodies and minds to new extremes.

I was such an athlete. At first all I wanted to do was to improve my physical condition. As my fitness program continued, I discovered that I had a propensity for the push-up. I didn't know what my physical limit for this exercise was, but I simply had to find out.

While seeking that limit, I surpassed all who had come before me. A catastrophic injury put an end to my quest, and I was never able to find my limit. Disappointed, I nevertheless was consoled by the fact that I am one of the few who objectively knows that he'd done something better than it's ever been done before. For ten years and four months no one performed more push-ups than I had.

Eventually, my record would have been broken no matter how many push-ups I would have done. I was touched by the Ulysses factor but Robert was too. Someone will always be waiting in the wings who has trained harder, longer, and wants the record more.

But in the greater scheme of things, it really doesn't matter who can do the most push-ups. What is important is what I derived from the quest. I discovered and cultivated the virtues of discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance within me while pursuing a dream. Shortly after achieving that dream, I found myself engulfed in a nightmare. But the survival component of the Ulysses factor, that leads people to safety in times of trouble, came to my rescue. Had I known in advance that I was going to break my neck, I couldn't have prepared myself better for the demanding task of rehabilitation than to train for the world push-up record. I strove, sought, and found, but unlike Tennyson's Ulysses, my quest yielded me the fortitude I needed to rehabilitate myself to complete independence. My story inspired Sherri to the extent that she read the Odyssey with enough comprehension to pass her English teacher's test. Should her little sister Katie need similar inspiration when she is assigned to read the Odyssey, I'll repeat my story. While it's too early to know whether my daughters will set any records, I hope that they'll give their best efforts to those things that are truly important to them and find within themselves the strength to persevere.

During my life, I have fought many battles, winning some while losing others. After a loss, I still remember the moment when I stood on top of the world. That one act proved to me what I was capable of if I set my mind, body, and spirit to it. It has fortified me to go on fighting battles. The experience has stood me in good stead, because the very essence of the independent life I fought so hard to regain is struggle. The founder of the modern Olympic movement, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, equated those contests to life when he said, "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle." My greatest hope is that during my final battle I will be able to look back on my life and know in my heart that I struggled well.

ARC’TERYX and Whistler Blackcomb will present the inaugural Deep Winter Photo Challenge January 3 through 6, 2007. The contest celebrates the typical January weather systems that pelt the majestic Coast Mountain Range with storms, leaving behind epic powder days and deep tree skiing throughout the winter months.

Deep Winter has invited five photographers to team up with athletes of their choosing, and spend three days inbounds on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Their goal is to capture the essence of the legendary winter storms and bring that to life in a slideshow presentation. The photographers will present their work in front of judges and the public on Saturday, January 6 in Whistler.

Deep Winter will showcase some of the who’s who among Whistler’s ski and snowboard photographers. Contest participants include: Whistler ski photography legend Paul Morrison; Future Snowboarding Magazine photo editor and long-time Whistler snowboard photographer Dano Pendygrasse; Snowboarder Magazine’s senior photographer Oli Gagnon; contributing photographer to Transworld Snowboarding and Snowboard Canada Dice-K Maru; and 2005’s Powder Magazine ‘photo of the year’ winner Bryn Hughes. The five will compete for $3,250 in prize money and the right to boast the title ‘king of storms’. This contest will be a deeply inspiring event for every winter storm lover, as each photographer will no doubt deliver a compelling journey through Whistler’s deep winter.

“This contest was born out of the fact that many ski or snowboard photos depict blue sky days and don’t often pay tribute to the awesome winter weather that can roll through the mountains,” says Mike Douglas, professional skier, long time Whistler local, and the inspiration behind the contest. “The really stormy days here in Whistler make for some epic days on the mountains. This contest is all about celebrating and embracing that weather, and sharing those moments with others who are as passionate about winter storms!”

The slide show, taking place at Millennium Place on Saturday January 6, will be followed by a party at the newly renovated Glacier Shop, located right across the pedestrian stroll. Millennium Place doors open at 7pm with the slide show beginning at 8pm. Tickets for the slide show and after-party are $9.99 and can be purchased at Millennium Place, Ticketmaster or online at Ticketmaster.ca.

“What a great way to celebrate the drama of the coastal storm season,” says John Irvine, Sports Marketing Director at ARC’TERYX. “At ARC’TERYX we are inspired by the majesty of the mountain environment, and each storm provides a fresh and dynamic canvas for these artists/photographers, and the athletes they will work with. To assemble Whistlers’ best photographers to capture this as a subject will be a unique and amazing spectacle.”

“We are very excited to bring these five amazing local photographers together under one roof to see what they create after three days on the mountains,” says Whistler Blackcomb’s public relations & communications manager Christina Moore. “This contest really speaks to our roots as a resort. Whistler has built its reputation in part on our stormy weather, as this is what delivers such incredible ski conditions throughout the winter. We’re thrilled to be celebrating this along with these renowned photographers. It’s going to be a great event.”

The three judges for the event include well-known professional Whistler snowsports photographer Eric Berger, Snowboard Canada’s photo editor and snowboard photographer Colin Adair, and ARC’TERYX’s Creative Director Tom Duguid. Deep Winter is presented in partnership by ARC’TERYX and Whistler Blackcomb, along with media partners Snowboard Canada and Skier Magazines.

Event information, current snow conditions and accommodation deals for the January 6th weekend are all available at whistlerblackcomb.com/deepwinter.

All these songs and poems mean alot to me, i wrote them throughout the years, and everyone is my inspiration, friends, family, life, how i feel, what i go or have gone through i express it from my writing! Its only the first draft of them, i dont really have the time to work on them properly, Im going to get a acoustic guitar soon so i can start learning then hopefully when im ready perform them !
music and song writing is like my therapy, when ever something tragic happens I write it down, and when I write a poem or song out of it, it makes me think of the situation in a positive way and seeing it down on paper into something amazing rather then sulk about it for days on end! I dont know what I would do without my music! If people only knew how much they inspire me to write!

I need your opinions people ..bad, good? any improvements?..all comments are welcome..negative and positive!

Caught Up

You're so amazing, you're in a band
strumming a guitar, the screaming fans

You feel alive standing on stage, lights on you, you're ready to play

Your caught up in the music
Your caught up with the fame
Your surrounded in that moment feeling no shame

You sing your heart out, you gave me yours
Don't want you to forget who I am, your girlfriend your life your whole life plan
I love you I need you don't get caught up in the band

Your caught up in the music
Your caught up in the fame
Here I am wondering if you will ever be the same

Your so talented your voice, your scene
making money and following your dream
You feel the energy I feel pain hoping that someday everything will be okay

You told me you love me, you told me I'm your world I feel the same caught up in a fantasy world

Don't get caught up with your music, the fame and all
Don't get caught up with your fans, ill start to fall

For every song that you sing remember who you are for every word of support I have given you my baby is a star
Get caught up in your dreams
Get caught up with the fun
Don't ever forget your special someone

A Broken Angel

An angel is for guidance, for you and me,
you broke its wing why can..t you see
this angel can't fly without its wing
you broke the angel the angel within me

An angel is for protection, for all alive,
misusing yourself has made the angel cry,
feels betrayed and the one to blame
thinking if you will ever be the same

An angel is forever an angel is for life
loose the precious angel, a part of the angel has already died

An angel is for love,
something we never had,
thinking if you are my angel only makes me sad,
you broke its wing it will never fly,
all the angel wanted was to be with you to the day you die

An angel is forever an angel is for life,
lost a part of the angel that you will never find

An angel is for friendship,
to make you laugh and smile,
exchanging words together makes it all worthwhile,
days go by there's a distance near,
i will never be the same angel as my image of you has now disappeared..

I was your angel

Hold Me

If I had my way Id wish you were here with me today,
if I had a choice Id do anything to hear your voice
If I could, I would want you to

CHORUS
hold me, and not let go
I wish you were here with me
I have to know, if our love is everything

If I could have my way Id want you to stay,
if I had one wish Id long for your kiss,
no matter how I feel I'm praying this is real

hold me, and not let go
I wish you were here with me
I have to know, if our love is everything

Ohh, I want you I need you
Ohh I cant explain
Ohh how much you mean to me
I have to wait and see

hold me don..t dare let go
I wish you were here with me
I have to know..

I need your arms around me, I'll wait for the day
when you are with me I want you to stay and hold me

Sad Little Girl

Just when I think, your there for me, I turn around and look what I see, this sad little girl, my reflection I see, not wanting to admit that little girl is me..

Just when I think
your there for me, I turn around and look what I see
this sad little girl
my reflection I see
not wanting to admit..not wanting to admit..
that little girl is me

I look around no ones there, I take this life without a care, is anyone there for me, I cant see, all I see is this sad little girl staring back at me

Now a tear has fallen from my face, I look again feel like a disgrace, not wanting to live not wanting to die, all I say is why why why..

A new day has come, can I face it?. Looking at me will I break it?. Are these feelings that I feel inside normal for every girl wanting to hide..

Just when I think
Just when I think
your there for me, I turn around and look what I see
this sad little girl
my reflection I see
not wanting to admit..not wanting to admit..
I want to forget...
that's me

If You

If you only knew how i feel today,
tears comes from my eyes flowing away
If you only knew how much i miss your warming hugs and non existant kiss
If you only knew where i was
thinking of you just because..

I only wanted you to be mine
Everyday i would go home crying
Seeing you everyday makes me wonder
what would have happened..

If you only knew what it took for me to smile
knowing ill be waiting here for awhile
If you only knew how much you meant
Ill never forget the day we met

I only cared, I only loved you
I lost you once, ill never forget who
took you away and i am lost
I need help to heal my broken heart

If you only knew how i feel today
tears coming from my eyes
Why wouldnt you stay!!!

I only wanted you to be mine
Everyday i would go home crying
Seeing you everyday made me wonder
what would have happened
if you..

A Piece of Me

I don't understand why life is unfair
took you away without a care
I knew he meant well and yes he did
left me here ..without you.. to grow up from
when I was a kid

And why a piece of me has gone
I can't go on without you I'l try..
and why a piece of me has gone
knowing I will never see you

I don't understand why I can't seem to accept
that you are no longer here, I'd rather forget
I lost you now I have to move on
pray every night that I will carry on ..without you..

and why a piece of me has gone
I can..t go on without you ..I'll try..
and why a piece of me has gone
knowing I have lost you

and why a piece of me has gone
I feel so alone ..alone.. knowing your gone
I have to carry on I..ll try..

A piece of me x3

and why a piece of me has gone, I can..t go on without you
I'll try.. and why a piece of me has gone knowing I have lost...you

What If

What if I walked left or right
what if it was day or night
I chose one way and the day
that is why I am here today

What if I smiled to a stranger or a friend
What if I cried a million tears having nothing to shed
I chose to smile at a friend
A shoulder to cry on
saved me in the end

What if I said I liked you more as a mate
what if I believed we could start to date
I told you how I feel
I chose to say
I have to deal with the hurt
whatever comes my way

What it Takes

When I try and be who I am
thinking of my whole life plan
when I want to be happy in life
not resort into taking my life

What it takes to be with you
what it takes to hold onto my life
I dream of being with you
I dream it will last

What it takes to show you how I feel
What it takes to show you this is real
that I love you and need you

When I try and make it all work out
when I fail and try to sort it all out
my whole life plan and what you mean to me
I know one day we can be

I know im not perfect I know I cant try

All I want is to be with you
you make living life so worthwhile
What it takes for you to be my future and find out the real me

Who I am my whole life plan
being happy in life
not resort into taking my life

I know im not perfect I know i cant try no one ever knows why

In My Eyes

I have lived my life the way it is
I have cried and tried to forgive you
but now I know no one..s worth the pain
and

In my eyes I see the truth
the reason why I cried for you
and now I know I have to let go
and

In my eyes I know the reason why
I trusted you and how you were there
But now you just don't care
and when I cry no ones worth the pain
and

I don't want to cry I don't want to die inside
I don't want to see I don't want to believe
that one day you were a part of me
and

In my eyes I see the truth
the reason why I cried for you
and now I know after all this time
now I know after all I cried
left me feeling empty inside and
what I see now in my eyes

Stranger

I stand there alone
strangers around
,
suddenly I become so aware of the ground

strangers are near
here I am hoping that you would be here
Im left on my own
wondering why, waiting and watching as the time goes by
A stranger walks past, my heart skips a beat
If you only knew how my life would be complete
for that stranger to walk my way
for that stranger to hold my hand and try to understand
why im standing in the first place
why I bother and care
feeling a sense of loss
because you werent there

Ill Be There

Wherever you are, however you feel,
your not alone Im on your side
and wherever I am whatever I do I'll always be there for you
dont think your on your own and hope is gone
dont think that you cant relate and dont feel the need to appreciate
what you have, who you are even when hope seems so far

Ill be there to catch you when you fall,
cry your tears, ill take away your fears

Ill be there to guide you to help you understand
to make you dream of your whole life plan

Ill be there to catch you when you fall,
cry your tears, I'll take away your fears

You have chances, you have goals
dreams of becoming someone special
You have a voice, you have a mind,
a heart to remind you your one of a kind
A voice you can speak through
a helping hand my dear friend to help you understand

Wherever you are, however you feel your not alone Im on your side and wherever I am, whatever I do, I'll always be there for you

And Now I

And Now I'm Stairing At The Sky
Wondering If Time Will Pass Me By.
Will I Get The Sun Or The Moon?
Some People Think Lifes Not Fair Too Me
They Just Need to Look Around And See.
The Gold Chariot Awaits Us When You Show
This Is One Of My All Time Lows.

Because Waiting Here For You
Makes My Heart Ache.
And Sitting Here For You Makes My Heart Feel Fake.

Wait I Want You Here, Sitting With Me Under The Bright Streetlights.
Wait I Want to See Your Perfect Smile, Pressure Me To Be Something.
Your Eyes Are Mezmerizeing Can't Seem To Get Them Out Of My Head.
Wait I Want To See You Laugh Again, Your Beautiful.

And I'll Wait For You Forever
Even If You Think We Don't Belong Together.
I Know We Do
And I Know Its True.
But When Waking Up To Your Eyes Seems Natural.
Then The Rest Of Our Lives Will Be Normal.
Do You Need Me?
Cause I Really Need You Now

Because Waiting Here For You
Makes My Heart Ache.
And Sitting Here For You Makes My Heart Feel Fake.

Wait I Want You Here, Sitting With Me Under The Bright Streetlights.
Wait I Want to See Your Perfect Smile, Pressure Me To Be Something.
Your Eyes Are Mezmerizeing Can't Seem To Get Them Out Of My Head.
Wait I Want To See You Laugh Again, Your Beautiful.

And I Will Wake Up And Taste Your Lips.
Crush Me With Your Deadly Kiss
Because I'm Not Afraid To Die.
As Long As None Of This Is Just A Lie.
Because I Want You And I Need You.
So Give Me One More Shot.
Underneth It All Im Not So Bad.
Im Not So Bad.

Because Waiting Here For You
Makes My Heart Ache
And Sitting Here For You Makes My Heart Feel Fake.

Wait I Want You Here, Sitting With Me Under The Bright Streetlights.
Wait I Want to See Your Perfect Smile, Pressure Me To Be Something.
Your Eyes Are Mezmerizeing Can't Seem To Get Them Out Of My Head.
Wait I Want To See You Laugh Again, Your Beautiful.

I Want To See You Laugh. I Want To See You Smile.
I Want To Look In Your Eyes And Tell You I Love You.

-Matty

This Isnt GoodBye

I didn't know how you felt, I didn't know all the pain
If I could id go back into the past and make everything alright again

All I know is these tears and all my fears are because of you, your beautiful
and this is not goodbye, these tears forever will cry and you will always be a part of my life

I didn't know your love, I didn't know your thoughts
If I could id go back into the past and make everything alright again

All I know is these tears and all of my fears are because of you, your beautiful
and this is not goodbye, ill never understand why you had to go, ill miss you so, these tears forever will cry and you will always be a part of my life

and this is not goodbye, I'll miss you, I'll see your face in the skies above smiling down on me, I know this is not goodbye

He wrote his first story when he was six....The old black composition notebook was filled with a child's first attempt in writing in script. I was only a year younger and was impressed that I could actually read what he wrote in his articulate and inventive manner. To this day I still remember that story, about a school field trip that suddenly turned out to be the biggest mystery that our small town ever encountered. It was all coming from a mind of boy in the first grade.

He views the world around him as the dreamer that he is, finding inspiration in the littlest of things. His words transcends above actions, creatively telling someone he is fighting, loving, dreaming, living, without having to be literal which is the most difficult sometimes....

Since his first experience putting pen to paper, I have been inspired to write...He had taught me how to stand up for myself through my words, tell someone I love them, without having to speak, to share happiness with others, even if I am not with them, to see the world with a different set of eyes....To always continue to dream.........

He has left his story writing behind, but still writes more in rhyme and rhythm of poetry. Either way he's inspirational, and he is the reason I write.....

My brother is a local poet, in the New York City area.

He has performances monthly in various venues in Manhattan....

Check him out, alongside his writing partner........http://www.myspace.com/81549298
