Good times in the backcountry. Some of the crew took their Level 1 Avalanche course, so we set out for a backcountry trip to build a road gap, ride some pillow fields and spend the night in a cool cabin. No roads for hours, no tracks but our own and we were surrounded by huge mountain peaks. After building a nice road gap jump, we hit it until well after sundown. Then we rode back to the front door of the cabin and chilled for the night. Good food, good music and great company. We woke up to about 15cms of fresh snow overnight. After a pretty funny cook up on the stove, we headed out to ride a powder pillow field for the day. Good times, a great crew, amazing powder and funny stories. www.corecamps.com

Smokin Snowboards
So the Smokin Snowboard factory tour last week had more to it than just the tour, we also went down to pick up some 2010 newly pressed decks. I was lucky enough to nab the new M.I.P. D.I.R.T. Rocker with Magne-Traction with some custom graphics brought to you by JP Lagos at Thesnowlife.com. I was even more excited to try out Smokin’s Magne-Traction since out snow has been rock hard as of late and last time I rode a board with magne it made the saying “Turns ice into powder” hold true. Friday afternoon of last week Squaw was still pretty firm with a nice east wind keeping things rather chilly, so what better time to go try out Smokin Jay “the evil genius’s“new concept.

My first thoughts was the same as any of the other reverse camber boards I have ridden, the nose seems to hook a little quick when you really get the board on edge. Once I detuned the nose and tail a little the board simply took off. The M.I.P. has a great predictable flex that reminds me of many of the old boards from the good old days. Jay doesn’t use fancy barely known named stuff to create his sticks yet he produces a board that rivals all those high-end uber scientific factories. The M.I.P. holds a super fun edge, makes a snappy turn and rebounds really predictably that you can stray away from the park and still rip turns. I have complained for a few years now that many companies are making boards to specific to one discipline and are hard to enjoy on every part of the hill. I think the smoking M.I.P. brings back the idea that you can have a great park board that doesn’t sacrifice the rest of the mountain.

If you are looking for a great park and all around board that’s actually handmade the new 2010 Smokin M.I.P. D.I.R.T. Rocker is gonna blow your mind.

What about the graphics? JP Lagos designed the graphic based loosely off the Obey “Obama” Poster series. Taking funny pictures and translating them into the Obey scheme, JP created a series of Bromodel snowboards. All the boards were either using Smokin’s 2010 M.I.P. blank or the 2010 Superpark blank. So the boards that were in the pictures being finished during the factory tour were none other than the bromodel boards. Special thanks to JP for including my funny grill on a snowboard and Smokin Jay for pressing a super fun board!

Where is your snowboard made? Some foreign country where all the workers have no idea what snowboarding actually is? In northern Reno NV, in an area where trailer parks abound sits a snowboard factory where a creative evil genius lives. You won’t find any high tech computerized equipment or even security guards protecting the company’s secrets from prying eyes. You will find the type of place where some of the best innovation has always come from… a ghetto garage!

Smokin Jay is an evil genius… not in the crazy axe murdering type way, more the artistic friend you had in school that you weren’t sure where his mind was. Jay was busy gluing one of his new 2010 models when we arrived and as soon as he had a chance to step away he was off and running with the “Factory Tour”. I use the term factory loosely since most of the time you might equate the term Factory to thousands of square feet and a building in an industrial district of town. Smokins factory looks like a cross between an old bomb shelter and chop shop. Inside most of the equipment has been piecemealed together, with bare wires and jays own inventions throughout the building.

Joining on the tour was Jay’s sidekick binky who was just as stoked to show us all the funny corners in the building. While at first glance it looks like a lot stuff packed around stuff but as Binky explains it you can start to see Jay’s twisted vision of how the process works. From the room with all the templates and edges, the room where he cuts out the sidewalls and the workstation that he uses to glue the boards together. And as you watch Jay and Binky work what looks like chaos starts to looks like an interpretive dance where both play off each other though out the entire process.

Smokin Jay takes a huge amount of pride in the boards he produces and each board must be perfect for him to sell it. His entire process feels more artistic than mechanical and each board seems like its own individual masterpiece. He inspects each board for any imperfection or graphic blemish before giving the stamp of approval to sell the board. So when you see the tag handmade you know that the board you are receiving was entirely handmade by Smokin Jay and the pride taken to create the board reflects in the quality of the product you are receiving.

When you get a chance try out a Smokin snowboard, these are quality snowboards made by an evil genius snowboarder who believes in making quality snowboards.

Thank you Jay and Binky for the Great night! check out http://smokinsnowboards.com/ for more info or check out the Smokin Snowboards we carry.

This weekend my really good friend Jay came in from NYC, and we kicked his ass. I picked him up at the airport at 11:41 am on Friday by 2:00 we were in the backcountry taking hot laps with Andy Spotts and Peter Tankersley. By nightfall we were tired and went home. Up Saturday morning with the sleds gassed up, lunches packed and a new tape in the camera, we headed out again. We met up with Josh Hall and Dave Harabedian and went full throttle making turns and shuttling on the sleds. Sunday was an on hill day at Squaw, what a trip I have been in the backcountry all season, that was my first day at the resort this year. Squaw was fun, but the backcountry was calling us back. I hit up Chappy, my boss and asked for Monday off, he said yes because he is RAD. So up again Monday, more lunches packed and Andy, Jay, Dave , Peter and myself were ready for another day out back.... Check out the Team Old Guy Vid...oh yes there are some funny bails too...

I love receiving last minute phone calls with the 2 stroke hum of snowmobiles in the background. PortersTahoe.com Team Rider Brendon Drury hit me up and said he and his younger brother were up at Mt. Rose riding around on his snowmobiles in search of some terrain for some snowboarding.

It is always fun riding side saddle getting up to your destination as it can be quite a task. I did bail once off the sled on my belly like a land seal! Out in the backcountry you never know what kind of characters you'll run into as we ran into these slednecks who offered us cheeseburgers, beer and some of that funny smelling "rope".

After a brief chat with these friendly dudes (Brendon snatched a brew), we proceeded to find our zone where we could get some shots. Brendon dropped into a face that was really sunbaked and it was hard to get the spray that we wanted. It was a fun turn but we wanted more.

Brendon got another ride up on the sled and I was scouting a zone trying to find a good place where he could snap a turn. The snow surface had about a 3-4 inch crust layer on it so I had to find an area that was thinner. I found just the spot.
Brendon hiked over to where i was camped out & we planned our shot.

In pure anal photographer fashion...I had to light this shot up. Packing light this time out I had my Lumedyne 400 WS Action Pack, Canon 1D Mark II, Canon 15mm fisheye lens, Canon 50mm 1.4 prime, and my Canon 70-200mm lenses. This is a great 3 lens & one light setup to have out in the backcountry or anywhere for that matter. This is what we got.

Not bad considering the snow only had an inch of crust in this zone. He did break through to the bottom and hit the rock, but in the end it was all worth it. On the way down we had to stop just one more time to take in another epic Lake Tahoe sunset.

Just watched this movie past weekend, and now our teacher is making us watch it. On 10 this movie deserves a 5 or 6. The only parts that were funny were, either in the previews or not worth the 4$. It was just too silly, there was no plot and too much swearing, I'm not a guy who doesn't swear but adding the Syllable 'f*ck' to any word DOES NOT MAKE IT FUNNY. Movie got too serious at the end too.
I'd rather work in class than watch this movie again. Oh well, at least I get to screw around before the bell, and since we're watching a movie everything changed place so I just keep dragging a girl on a chair around class.

just realized i haven't posted anything new in forever... well.. maybe not that long.  but close.  i don't have my forever-th birthday for a few months still.

anywho, not sure if you guys noticed, but have you heard?... times are tough.  people can't afford their houses, cars are being repossesed, people are being laid off and banks... yes, banks, needed to borrow money from the government.  i thought they were the ones who lent money to people?  crazy times i tell you.

i thought i'd share some money saving tips to help you all out in case you are finding times tough.

1. don't buy toilet paper... use yesterdays newspaper.  not only will it work at removing the feces, but you can get some gratification wiping shi*t all over that jon arbuckle in the garfield comic.... you aren't funny!

2. unplug your clocks during the night... i mean come on.. who needs to know what time it is while they are sleeping right?

3. encourage not cleaning up spilled food.  if you have cats, the mice the food brings in will provide free pet food.

4.  bring your rolled canadian pennies to the states to cash in.  that way, you'll get an extra 10 cents per roll with the exchange!

5. for christmas, buy people $50 gift cards for places that they rarely go to... that way, when they never get around to using it,  no one will even notice that you already spent the 50 bucks and just gave an empty card.

6. save on water by not showering.  not only will it save on the water bill, but you'll save even more when people refuse to accept your dinner offers.

7. learn to love e-bay, craigslist and kijiji... not just buying things cheaper, but you can sell not only old clutter at your house, but your re-found 'virginity'.

8. get all your drinking done in one night.  though it may not sound like a money saver, the next morning, when you wake up and say, 'never again', you have just given yourself at least a week before your next bender without having to hop on the wagon.  and on that bender, drink fast and on an empty stomach.

9. cancel that gym membership... come on now... its obvious you aren't using it fatty.  you aren't fooling anyone.

10. stop purchasing any type of prophylactic be it the pill or condoms, might as well be money in your wallet instead.  because after all... if you follow the other tips on here, no way does anyone want to sleep with you.

hope these tips help and if you are able to save a couple bucks, feel free to buy me a beer next time you see me.

Indeed.
-pops a piece of bubblegum in his mouth-
Today is so intrepid. But why describe it. Why waste the potassium.
Is it really only Tuesday? It seems like Monday was ages ago. Funny how that is when you try your best to fill up each moment with something. When a good friend sends trickles of divinity your way. All that jazz
-pops a bubble in your general direction-
The war has already begun. I do not stand alone in this blasted landscape. We are all intrepid together. Ones strength gives into another, a weakness becomes as nothing in the stalwart stance of several. Yet this is no sureity. Battles are lost, battles are won, only the best leaders determine the outcome.

My Blog: Me
By: JaredMG

I wonder what enlightened individual can answer the question of who they are. I cannot.
Stroke by stroke I paint this picture of myself, or is it a revelation of self?, throughout all these years of life. Most days I wander about dazed or lately... quietly amusingly lost.
I look at all these connections spinning out ahead of me into the future and... it doesn't seem right in a way. So I wander around life looking at people a little too hard, searching for those few whom who'll complete me, whom I'll help complete.
Here I am writing a blog that no one may ever read yet one special person may. It's that prospect of the latter which tickles me funny. I think it's silly of me to write here, nonetheless all I can do is write here and shake my head at myself while I sip hot chocolate.

Airhole Visit / T.I. Interview / Dave Harris

The Airhole crew came by for a little visit yesterday. I'm pretty sure Kale's from another planet. Here's a taste of the visit.

Dave Harris is the funniest person in the world. The stuff I've heard come out of his mouth over the years is beyond ridiculous. I've been wanting to catch him in the act forever now but he isn't easy to film. Last Sunday I had a major breakthrough.

Keep posted for more Dave on the Dave updates channel on our Video player. The channel will be featuring content by anyone who goes by the name "Dave". Should be good.

This is probably the best Rapper interview I've ever seen.

Chucky's tattoo

After a short little visit by Chucky and his good buddy Dustin Craven yesterday I learned they picked up some pretty epic impulse tatty's last May.

Under the image of the hand throwing up the peace sign it's written "best summer ever" some how predicting the summer they both eventually experienced. Keep an eye out for the next issue of Updown Magazine for more heart warming stories about friendship in Dustin's "Greasy" little interview by yours truly.

Hey Mate!! I was at the Oakley Style Wars in Fallscreek  Australia last week.. I had tons of Fun there! great parties at the Silver Ski Lodge with the whole Epic crew! I got to see my old friend PC from the Epic book.. runs in the gum trees, watch Travis’ movie.. I was hosting the contest for the web.. which was kind of funny.. I had tons of fun at the parties! we have seen some water spitting, beer fights, and even some wrestling at some point.. all in a fun party mood in the Aussie way. A that we improvised a trip to Torquay on the way down and went surfing, the water was freezing cold, but it was fun to catch a couple waves..

After the surfing, I joined the 2 Kristis ( Leskinen skier, and KT the Oakley marketing girl in Australia). We flew Sydney, ate some kanguru, did a couple PR stuff there with Alpha magazine and Sports Tonight Australia. I pet a koala and flew to New Zealand.. we spent the first day in Auckland for some more interviews for Sunrise (TV), Curl magazine, Sports Tonight NZ (TV), couple radio stations, and last but not least, we got on the Sports Cafe show hosted by some of the All Blacks (NZ national heroes).. they started asking us some tricky questions when a streaker jumped out of the public and shaked it right before my eyes on live national TV!! I was quite stoked to be there when that happened

anyways got to Queentsown the next day for the Oakley Chicks day out! which took place in Snowpark with another 50 girls.. the sun was shining and the park was super good, we shred together all day, i tryed to give them a couple tips, and we all rode back together to queenstown in a very loud busride. At night we all went for a bootie shake at the subculture bar where our friend RIA was DJing.. she killed it! she played tons of funk, which i love and we all danced all night.. and now I m tired and ready to go back to Euroland!

Thanks to Oakley and thanks tons to KT for organising this trip! thanks to all the girls for coming shredding with us, see you all next year!

Russia, I’ve always wanted to go there!! And here I am, landing in Sochi designated host of the 2014 Olympic games. The small airport stands by the black sea and I m quite surprised to see palm trees through the plane window.. We made our way through the taxi drivers  scrum, chose one of them by the size of his car and drove up towards Krasnaya Polyana.. It s a 45 minutes drive.. this place looks like a remote and small European resort.. but 40 years ago. Oakley is always a fun crew! Grete Eliassen, Gretchen Bleiler, Angeline who has missed her flight, Marie-France Roy who had some visa issues and will arrive a couple of days later and I.

The lift is sketchy!! You sit on that red metal 2 seater chairlift while the chairlift guy holds it by handcraft for 1 second.. your board on your knees as well as your backpack, gloves, ipod etc.. you are hanging about 40 or 60m off the ground and the lift makes weird noises.. or stops and runs the wrong direction for 10 seconds.. the way out is even sketchier! Same thing, the guy grabs the chair and you have 1 second to jump off and run with your gear in your hands…

Everywhere nearby the chairlift you can find some tough Russian body guards.. they looked scary.. but Gretchen got them to be our friends by getting them into our photo albums! So everyday.. they looked just mean and tough.. but when we showed up, they gave us their biggest smiles.. with hardly any teeth appearing or maybe a couple golden ones..

Never mind, it’s sunny and the snow looks epic.. but it’s really warm.. and yep it has been really warm and sunny a full day already, you should have been there YESTERDAY! It looked like fun hot pow but my board got glued so hard to the ground that I couldn’t even turn or keep my nose up! That snow was pretty much the worst you can get! No way to work it.. and worst was to come.. it rained for a week.

And still we went up and got a couple of jibs done.. there was no water in the house (no showers) but all was good..  cause the girls were soo fun to hang out with! While the skiers were building a wall ride, Gretchen and I took the lift to the top.. Super sketchy avalanches went down on the whole mountain! Wett heavy huge avalanches all over the place..  but the top stayed good.. cause it was just cold enough to keep it together.. That night we decided to drink it blue witch is an easy thing to do in Russia.. Anna showed Gretchen and I a couple breakdance moves, I painted on Shin’s face while Marie-France was holding him and thanks to Grete who puked that night cause it worked and got sunny the next day!

It had snowed and blown quite a bit on the very top.. and that was our chance to make it happen.. we hiked 2 bowls behind the top chairlift and found a couple lines, slashes and cliffs… the snow was super fun in the shady spots.. I was stoked to finally get to ride! And to slash pow YEAH!! The last run down was soo fun!! And then we had to traverse for about an hour and hike another hour to get back to the slopes.. it was  close to dark, all lifts were closed and there were both of Grete’s fans!! Waiting for her to appear out of the woods. What a good day!! It s funny how 1 good day makes it up for ten bad ones.

That was our last night in the mountains and we all went to the Russian Sauna to get  naked and beaten with branches by a Russian type of Tarzan!! The best thing ever!

We left to Moscow the next day and that was super fun too! The Red Square was on my to see list.. pretty mind blowing!  Thanks to Oakley, Shin, Anna and Marie for making this trip a trip to remember!

You Can Fix the Xbox 360 Red Light Easy!

Click here: Xbox 360 Red Light Fix

Although it might seem unbearable, it is actually not that difficult to learn how to fix a broken Xbox 360.

In fact, it is feasible to repair yours right at home without any  technical
know how or use of special equipment. Most individuals shouldn't have any problems at all when fixing their Xbox 360, 99% of them time and depending on what the problem is, you should be able to fix it within an hour to 2 hours.

When it comes to fixing your console, you'll find within this article, exactly what you should do and where you should go to get started on repairing your broken Xbox 360, I won't necessarily be able to describe the entire process in this article, but I can recommend a great place to start.

Because the Xbox 360 contains such a large amount of processing power in such a small space it is quite prone to overheating.Just play one for a few of hours non-stop and it is likely that the console will become
exceedingly hot.

Of course this heat is not at all good for the delicate components inside, and the
lack of an efficient cooling system only adds to the issue.

Extreme amounts of heat can cause damage to the processor, memory, hard drive
and basically anything else inside!

The funny thing is, why the every so notorious "3 Rings of Death" occur, is because the Xbox 360 heats up so much that it melts lead free based soldering around the GPU processor, leading to 3 flashing lights on the outside of the console and an entire system shutdown.

Because of the poor design of the Xbox 360, you can now better understand how to repair a broken Xbox 360, because you now understand why most problems due eventually happen from overheating.

Before you jump in knee deep and start taking your Xbox 360 apart, you're going to first have to identify the main fault and what you need to do to repair it properly.

One of the best moves you can make for yourself is to get a repair manual, not just any repair manual, but Xbox 360 red Lights repair manual, but that's just my opinion, however, whatever repair manual you choose, you'll get the instructions, video tutorials and step by step guidance you need to get the job done correctly the first time, you can be sure of that!

Another thing you can do, is find a few reviews on the different, there are lots of Xbox 360 repair guides available, but not all of them are good, so finding a review or two, you'll get a better idea of what guide will work best for you and your particular Xbox 360 error code.

Holy crap.. Did you see that Party Snake teaser yet? If so there's really only been two responses. 1. You loved it and can't wait to see more or 2. You hated it and wish it would die. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground on this on. Check out some of the comments I found on the Gnarcore site.

I'm still waiting on a revised teaser before I post it directly in the furious blog but you can check the rough version out on the Gnarcore site or find it on FB. There's some pretty funny comments there too:

Hey a bunch of my photos are up on the TWS site. No biggie.. Here's a little sampler incase you don't feel like clicking on the link to below.

This shot here is pretty bad ass. Its probably the best image of mountain peeks ever captured. The funny thing is I actually didn't even slow down the sled to get it, I just shot it over my shoulder. I'm getting pretty good at framing stuff without thinking these days..

I'm the only photographer Dev will even consider shooting with these days. We have this unspoken trust thing going on between us thats real difficult to put into words. We just vibe off each other and make magic like the shot above. Nuff said.

Its real close because we're both super talented but I'd have to say my photos style is actually better then Dev's riding style in this particular photo. The thing with photography most people don't really understand is that you gotta play for keeps.

Click here to see the rest of my shots.

Tadashi's uncle's sponsor me vid. Wow, his on some next level video game type moves..

Not bad for 50..

The coming winter must be on a few peoples minds (other than those people who are experiencing it in the southern hemisphere). I turned on the tv the other night and caught two major US cable shows featuring snowboarding in Whistler. E Weekend News had a full feature on Whistler and then Gene Simmons - Family Jewels (Of KISS fame - the guy with the makeup and big tongue) started a two show feature on Whistler and one of our coaches was on the show.

Gene Simmons Family Jewels

I knew that Ryan (Rausch) had done some work with Gene during the world ski and snowboard festival here in Whistler this April. What I didn't know was just how cheesy the show was going to be. Gene is all about making $$ and he owns a label called "Money Bags". During the show they were looking for a new face for "Money Bags" and Ryan was one of their options. Ryan definitely got the best deal out of the three candidates as he scored a heli day and some snowmobile time. It he hadn't blown out his knee during the filming (a total put on - Ryan is fine) he would have been the new face of "Money Bags". Funny stuff and all scripted. You may be able to check it out this out later this week

Summer Camp on the Glacier

Summer Camp has now been and gone for another year. The glacier was in really great shape this year and the half pipe was awesome, We scored some great weather with lots of blue sky days and a super fun shred was had by all.

Winter Programs

We have had lots of bookings come in already for the December and January 12 week courses. Freeride, freestyle and snowboard instructor camps and courses start the beginning of December with the first 12 week course starting on the 6th. We have an early booking discount of $350 for anyone booking a 12 week course before August 31 with a 50% payment and we have secured an extra lift ticket for anyone booking two week courses before October 31. You will get 2 extra lift tickets if you book your two week course by September 30. See the http://www.pro-ride.com/courses.cfm page for more details.

Videos

Karen has been busy working on the videos from this past winters footage. We now have a freestyle video, two freeride videos and a womens shred video all finished. Next off the press will be the Mt Baker road trip feature.

Here are the links to the latest completed videos.

The New Gondola

We got an up close look at the new gondola while heading up to the glacier this summer and it really is a marvel of engineering. The lift station itself is a huge building and they have already strung the guide wires across the valley for the new cable system. Check out some pictures at

My Blog: Racing
By: Savinglives101

This last sunday I participated in my first cross country (XC) race on my mountain bike. I have raced before but in the discipline of Downhill (DH). I did rather well my first DH season, but it was too expensive to continue doing it out of my own pocket. The XC race was something else though.
With DH, you just go down the selected course as fast as possible. There are jumps, rock drop offs, technical sections and other man made features to try and throw you on your face. You get physically worn out when your pedaling through flat sections, but most of it is mental planning and rider control. All you really need is a helmet, a bike, some understanding of physics, mad bike skillz and balls the size of jupiter.
With XC, its all about rider endurance. The course I rode was just over 10 miles of shale rock singletrack, ravines, riverbeds ect. ect. I was out of my league when I signed up for this. I had no clue what I was getting into. At the start I was amazed at the pace of the riders around me. What was funny is that pace never stopped! After 2 miles I was spent, but my nevar lose attitude kept me in the sights of the leaders. I got to the point where I was so physically spent, my mind didn't care and my bike handling skillz suffered greatly. I am a pretty good rider, probably considered intermediate to advanced. I've done drops and jumps big enough to park large vehicles or even small houses under. But the XC race kicked my a$$ into the dirt. It gives racing a whole new meaning. I thought it was just about skillz. Now I know its about keeping your composure under extreme physical conditions and pushing the human body to the farthest extents.

I finished in 56 minutes 48 seconds putting me in 6th place of 17 riders in my class.
