Torah Bright & Peetu Piiroinen Win $100,000 Burton Global Open Series
Shaun White & Cheryl Maas Drive Home New Volvo C30 R-Designs
STRATTON, Vt. (March 22, 2008) – Glory, fame and fortune were on the line today at the US Open Snowboarding Championships, where the world's top riders battled for five different prestigious titles, two Volvo C30 R-Designs and cash awards worth a total of $471,500. Today's big winners were 2008 BGOS champions Torah Bright (AUS) and Peetu Piiroinen (FIN); 2008 US Open halfpipe champions Torah Bright (AUS) and Shaun White (USA); 2008 Men's Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion Kevin Pearce (USA); Volvo Most Valuable Riders Cheryl Maas and Shaun White; and 2008 US Open big air champions Cheryl Maas and Tim Humphreys.
Last season's Burton Global Open Series champion Torah Bright had this to say about her second BGOS title and $100,000 title win, "I had tears coming down under my goggles. I just couldn't believe that I could win the title twice. I'm really very happy."
Finnish rider Peetu Piiroinen, who has never won a major title in his snowboard career, said, "I never thought I had a chance to win the BGOS title. I just cannot wait to call my family in Finland – they won't believe it!"
The action-packed day kicked off with the men and women's halfpipe finals, where history repeated itself when 2007 US Open halfpipe champions Shaun White and Torah Bright once again took first place and $20,000 each. Just like at last year's US Open, Shaun also won the Volvo for his overall riding at the event.
At the start of the halfpipe finals, four men and two women were still in contention for the $100,000 Burton Global Open Series title, and every rider in the running had calculated what ranking he or she needed to take home competitive snowboarding's biggest single payout. In the best-of-three run finals Torah Bright took the lead early with a run that featured a backside 3 Indy, switch backside 720 mute (Winner of Zune Best Trick and $5,000), backside 540, melon-to-fakie with a Cab 720 at the end. Coming off a win at yesterday's slopestyle, Shaun White won his third US Open halfpipe title, ending his day with a victory lap. Shaun's winning run consisted of a first-hit frontside 1080 stalefish to Cab 1080 into his signature frontside 540 stalefish, McTwist, frontside 900 with a backside 900 ender—all huge and flawless. Scotty Lago clocked the Zune Best Trick and $5,000 with a double cork frontside 1080.
Later that night, the big air went down and the Volvo Most Valuable Rider awards were given out. Tim Humphreys did every trick in the book from frontside and backside 1080s, backside and switch backside 720s and a backside rodeo 540 to win the title. Cheryl Maas also impressed the judges with her trick arsenal that included a frontside 360, backside 540 and a backside 720 tailgrab (SoBe $2,500 Sick Trick award), earning her the top spot. Chas Guldemond earned the SoBe Sick Trick for his backside 1260 melon.
Cheryl's overall performance at the event earned her the Volvo. "I'm super stoked, I was just about to sell my old car and I never thought I'd have a car this nice,” said Cheryl about her Volvo win.
Kevin Pearce also had a big day as he took third in the US Open halfpipe competition and was crowned the new 07/08 Men's Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion, earning $50,000.
After the big air competition, Grammy-nominated heavy metal band Mastodon heated things up with a free show on the concert stage at Stratton's main base area from 8:00-9:00 p.m. Be sure to catch the 2008 US Open halfpipe, slopestyle and big air action on NBC, Sunday, March 23 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. EDT.

The touch of death
acidic grace
an entity  beyond control
Always lurking
giving chase
as loves embrace now takes it's toll
The pain will cling
like mental tar
concious thought is now erased
The warmth of light
has slipped so far
darkness falls, a bitter taste
We bear the grown
of bloodied lace
a nature which cannot be pure
No tear can touch
a flawless face
a lack of feeling shall insure
the dawning of
a darker day
Death will soon be on its way.

It has again been a long time since i last posted, or visited snowboard. I'm not very satisfied with my work right now...the place is too big, too many people i have to deal with, and too many of their mistakes i have to fix. Hopefully, the management realize that i am the one that gets things working again, but it's hard to tell. Also going to sleep by 8pm is kinda sad.

I finished work on the castle. Maybe i'll be able to get pics of it up. I did post a picture of the engagement ring. put me under a pretty penny, but its a really nice ring. Bridgett was no fool. Princess cut in white gold means you need to pick a diamond that is near colorless and flawless. that equals pricey.

Winter approaches and i am getting excited for the season!!

The finals of the Es Game of Skate took place at the ASR trade show in San Diego on Saturday, September 9. Thousands of people pack into the San Diego Convention center to watch the madness. The day started off with the am contest, where kids from all over the world got to showcase their talent.  I was super impressed with the consistency of all these guys, and the new innovative tricks they were pulling out of their asses. In the end it was Alex Mizurov from Germany who made it to the top.

The pro contest was straight up crazy.  The crowd was constantly oh’ing, and ah’ing and when someone would flawlessly execute a difficult trick they would be crazy.  Chris Cole and Taylor Smith worked their way through the field, taking out guys left right and center; Cole taking out PJ Ladd along they way.  But it was the unexpected German from earlier in the day that had worked his way into the Pro contest that would eventually take the victory. Congratulations Alex Mizurov.

After the contest I poked my head into the ASR trade show where the booze had already started flowing.  A couple of beers later I cruise back across town to find skaters everywhere.  It seemed as though every ledge and curb in sight was being skated.

A simple test, probing loss, lokking for a view
Tapping on a grave they call their own
I desire, I invite this process, injection begin
Begin, break the skin, salvation quickly driven in
Pride in fracture, in subjection
A new supply running red with purpose
Nothing less than flawless in design
Systemtaic in possession, igniting all within
Running red with purpose
Nothing less than flawless in design

With last season ending up being a complete bust, due to all the old crew moving for school and not riding together once, we decided to kick off this winter with a different approach. An early snowfall coated the small peaks of southern Ontario at the end of November, coming a month earlier than most years, and the entire crew made a pact not to let the distance ruin another season of shredding. After a few warm up sessions at the smallest hill around, we decided to take our skills to a slightley larger venue. There it was, two small twenty-five ft booters followed by a fifty-five ft'er with a forteen ft lip, along with an arrangement of jibable metal objects.
We couldn't have been more ready to kick the season of reunion off to a start. The first few runs were of the warming up kind, me getting used to the new Capita from my unofficial sponsership from the local shop, a couple big airs here, and a couple small spins there. We all decide that this was going to be the year that we remember as the turning point in our snowboarding careers and we decide to up the ante. I go first, lining up the first small booter as a speed gainer for the last. I take off flawlessly backside with a floating three to leave me riding regular for the big underflip that awaited on the larger booter. I spotted the landing and stomped flatbased, lightly sweeping my arm throught the snow during the followthrough, when it hit me. A loud snap that was followed by a numbness in my left arm.
With a short stay in the ski patrol hut, followed by a longer one at lakeridge hospital and an x-ray showing that I had broken a fragment off of my radius on the joint where it attaches to the ulna, I was joined by another member of the crew, that had bailed on a radius box and was later told that he had recieved a smaller fracture across the radius of his right arm.
What could make a season worse than having two men down with injuries for three months? How about having mother nature cancel the snow and replace it with its close relative, rain. But we were unable to allow this to get us down. We had the whole season in front of us, as short as it is in Ontario, and I was back on the board only a week after the break going just as upside down as ever.
With the injuries, rain, and small verticles that filled this season, we came to a conclusion. We're going to move to BC

Giraffe Entourage: Week with Miss Kenzie Lee
By: Rodney

The lovely misskenzielee came to Whistler last week.  What a week!  I got to go riding with her for the first time and she was killin it in the park.

IMG_5195.JPG

On saturday feb 4, we went out with her father to the Bearfoot Bistro where we got to drink $5000 wines!  They don't mess around.  We were invited to the wine cellar where champagne bottles were sabred and then we drank the champagne!  It was crazy!!!  I also had cavear for the first time.  I hate seafood but I had to try it.

Also tried something else new.  Kenzie made some cookies and I bbq'd them because I don't have a working oven.  Joel ate them before we all went to Buffalo Bills. haha.

I took thursday and friday off work to go riding and the weather was flawless!!! So beautiful!  It was an amazing week and I'm sad that its over.  I did take LOTS of pics which I will post some in my galleries.

What do you do
when there is nothing you can do?

all you can do is wait
wait for a miracle, a chance
something to happen
wait for a glance

wait until he finally notices
notices that I actually exist
he might find out
that there is something he missed

missed our on what I could give him
I would give him the stars and the moon if I could
but would he accept them
I just don't think that he would

I know what it is he wants
he just wants a piece of ass
doesn't want any commitment
doesn't want anyone with class

he's so quiet
there’s not much to say
we rarely talk
but we did the other day

I want to get to know you
know what you're all about
I don't know what to say
except that I have a problem with self-doubt

I don't think I'm good enough
you seem so perfect and flawless
I swear I would do anything
anything for just one kiss

After everything you've done
I find myself coming back to you
so now what do you do
when there is nothing you can do?

"random thoughts"

As many of you know i very rarely use my journal as my way of telling people what i am doing. i use it as a place to showcase my writing. today however i am going to let you in on my life current day with some lovely random thoughts...

LIVI IS HERE TODAY!!! we are going to NH with about 15 of my friends, so that should be a blast.

i am late for work for the first time since i started there. but i really don't care b/c i am there 10-11 hrs a day. i am ok with this...and never have been before...being late that is.

I went to see THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS last night and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY!!!!! I would add that to my list of one of the best shows ever! i went alone which has not been done since high school. but in hs i KNEW that i would see other people at the "space" an old hangout for shows. Now-a-days i am not as brave. but i went, thinking i missed the whole show due to my dad's birthday dinner, and when i got there an hr and a half after the show was to have commenced i find out that they haven't even started yet!!! holding my extra ticket in my hand i see SOLD OUT written across the flyer outside. immediately i turned around to the small gathering of people and exclaimed, "does anyone need a ticket?" and to my surprise about 10 people yelped YES! i sold it for almost what i paid for it, and met a new friend, Dave. turns out he was there alone too. we had some beers and had a lot of laughs. THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS were absolutely incredible! they played 3 yes i said 3 encores!!! and so many people left after the first encore...they had people come up on stage and dance with them, and Neko's voice was flawless. being a singer i have a really difficult time with many female singers, but she rocks my socks! and they did a cover of Barracuda by HEART! all in all a superb night that i will never forget.

i guess i should start going to shows alone more often.

HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!
