Effective April 1 - 30, 2003 the Forest Service will be implementing and enforcing a Supervisor's Closure on Vail Mountain, which will prohibit unauthorized access to the Minnie's Deck area where the end-of-season BB&B event has occurred. The Forest Service issued a directive to Vail Resorts under the terms of their special use permit to shut down the BB&B event on Vail Mountain. Historically the BB&B event has taken place at Minnie's Deck and the event had evolved into a gathering of as many as 2,000 people. The behavior of participants posed serious risks to public health and safety as well as caused resource damage. The Supervisor's Closure will be in effect to ensure protection of public health and safety.

So, with a stroke of the pen, the US Forest Service ended the infamous end-of-season party on Vail Mountain, ending a 22 year tradition.  Know by many variations, Boobs, Boomers and Beers; Buns, Boobs, and Beers; Boobs, Booze and Brews, etc, (BB&B) was held on the second Tuesday in April as a way for Vail valley residents and employees to blow off some steam at the end of the season.  The event started in 1980 as a small end-of-season birthday party on Minnie's deck. BB&B devolved into an orgy of drinking, snowball fights and raucous behavior. During the last several years, partiers spent days before BB&B building large snow forts, stashing large quantities of alcoholic beverages, and, too often, hauling up more illicit substances.

Historically, the end of season party probably started much earlier with the Great Race.  This season-ender was usually held in Lionshead and People would dress up in all kinds of wild costumes. A photo of Vail local hooligan Packy Walker standing on the winner’s podium wearing nothing but a fig leaf and his gold medal made the front page of the Vail Trail newspaper. After Vail executives and lawyers killed that event people continued to get costumed up and party at Minnie's Deck.  In those days it was called the mountain formal.  Costumes included top hats and suits as well as high school prom dresses, horrible powder-blue tuxedoes and ballerina tutus.  The event grew and was combined with Warren Miller’s Mad Mountain Marathon and the Rubber Legs Slalom.  The race involved 150 or more slalom gates at the bottom of Vail Mountain and the event raised money for local charities.

When I was there in the spring of 2002, my brother Travis, his wife Michelle, Mayela and I went to the BB&B.  We all carried backpacks loaded with beers, booze and buds.  When we arrived at Minnie's deck the atmosphere was relaxed and people were lounging on the deck in the sun enjoying the event.  We set up camp on the deck and in one of the nearby snow forts crafted by a group of Beaver Creek's happyshack community.  We took some runs and explored the other various snow forts in the woods.  It was amazing the elaborate complex of forts and the adornments within.  Some had full Ice sculpture bars complete with barstools carved from compacted snow.  Others were complete igloos with only a small portal in the roof for ventilation.  Another was an elaborate maze to thwart cops and security spies.

As the day continued, there were jam sessions on the numerous rails that had been created in the woods.  One was a 50 foot long triple wave that dumped out into the main area opening.  Eventually the traditional snowball fight erupted with the main focus from the snow forts surrounding the opening at Minnie's deck.  Some forts were equipped with water balloon launchers.  A couple of times I snuck out through the woods with my snowboard to take runs down born free.  After riding the gondola back up to the top, I'd come rolling into the woods with my pants down and flipping the crowd off in my black afro.  The trick was to ride fast and get to the fort as quickly as possible.  Poor unfortunate souls that tried to follow in the wake turbulence of my entry would get blasted into oblivion.  I would stand on the wall and yell out obscenities to the enemy forts.  The response was a furious barage of snowballs.  People were getting pissed because we were getting bombed with snow.  One time, standing on the wall, I took a water balloon launcher shot to the chest that blasted me flat on my back.  Heffe came right up like a  medic with the Jaegermeister bottle to nurse me back to insanity.

In the evening when security starts to herd everybody out of there is a Chinese downhill of sorts.  This race to the pub progresses down the mountain. There is one particularly steep pitch where people who are so f*cked up that they just take their skis off and hurl themselves bodily down the face, laughing their drunken asses off.  I came up to the edge and launched the hand bag I was carrying as high in the air as I could--only to find out Mayela had her camera in it.  We all ended up at the bars in Vail village till the weee hours of the morning.  It was amazing.  I'm glad I got to experience the greatest party on earth before it was over.  Good times

As kind of a sick footnote to all of this, the event has been commercialized in a couple of different forms. Never shy about making a buck off the sweat and toil of the locals Vail Resorts promptly christened Siebert's Mad Mountain Marathon and Beaver creek Blues, Brews, and Bar-B-Que. There is no limit to the depth of slime with Vail Management.

it sucks on the 14 of dec I got shut down.  I was droping arund a tree so to shout a rabit hole I saw in front of me the problem was I did not see the vertical snow pipe behind the tree and on of the clip handles that atach the hoses to the pipe snagded my arm and droped me to the ground.  looking up from the ground I finly saw the pipes over shadowing me.  at this point my arm started to hurt.  looking at my coat I found no holes or rips so I figured that I must have just scached or brosed it bad.  Then I felt the worm sensation of blood runing down may arm, os I put presher on it and headed to ski patrole.  wonce I got there and my coatand shurt off I got a good look at my musles, tendents, and fatty titues.  so I ended up in the er and left with 22 stiches and what should be one he!! of a V shaped scar.  but dont worry about me it was merly a flesh woond and I am suposted to be back on snow on the 27th.  no artery or tendent damage and very slight muscula gamage.

The snow is lovely. I love the lovely white snow. I love to love...but my baby just loves to dance, he wants to dance, he loves to dance... HAHAHAHAH! HA!

I am super excited because today we just had our first snowfall here in the wonderful city of Montreal. OOOH I LOVE IT! The weekly forecast announces up to 20cm of snow!!! (wet snow sadly) But who cares! Winter is here and the snowboarding season is on its way!!! YAHOO! Watch out skiers!!! But we still love ya! Anywho, now not only is it wet snow falling, the wind is blowing harder too... dammit... I guess Montrealers will have a white Christmas after all!

On to snowboarding... I'm getting back my deck this weekend, or when I have cash to pay for the damages... Man did Le Massif kill me!!! Too much flat land! How ironic for such a huge mountain! I can't wait to get back on and start riding again!
(not that kind of riding.. you ppl think i'm a freak doncha?) But, I must admit that le sex is pretty good! When needed and well deserved I might add! (my blogs are quite random aren't they?)

I was in charge of cooking the meal so I was making everyone's dinner.Everybody worked hard splitting the fire wood to make the campfire!!I never slept in a tent before but it was more comfortable than I expected!!!２日目はモービルで撮影に行くチームと、テントの近くで遊ぶアイテム作るチームと二手に分かれてそれぞれ夜のセッションに向けて、アイテム作りをがんばってました。モービルで初めて山にあがったヒロミは、景色をみたくて、あき君のモービルを借りて開けてるポイントまで一人で行きました！！すごくきれいな景色で感動していると、そんなときに事件は起きました！！！！！なんと、あきくんのモービルが燃えてる。。。。。。。。。。あせったヒロミは急いでエンジンをきり、火が出てるところに、雪をかけまくりました。火がおさまり、今度はみんなのいるところまで、Bダッシュ！！！！！何が起きたのかもわからなかったせいか、そーとーテンパリました！！！ 汗だくなって、みんなに報告をして、タダシ君達がモービル救助に行ってくれました。原因は、ブレーキロックを解除してなかったことでした。初のモービル体験で、あき君の新車を燃やしてしまいました。。。。。。。アキ君ホントにごめんなさい！！！！！！！！！！！On the second day, we split up into two teams. One went shooting by sled and the other made some items for the night session near the tents.I was in the team that went shooting and I was so excited about riding a sled for the first time. I wanted to see the view from the mountain so I went up a little by myself.The scenery was so beautiful and it really got me.Then the accident happened!!!!!Aki’s sled was burning...............OH! MY! GOD!!! I turned off the engine right away and put snow on the fire again and again.After the fire went dead, I made a mad dash to get to everybody!!!!!I was so panicked that I didn’t understand what the hell was going on!!!I told everybody about the fire with sweat all over me, and Tadashi and some friends went to rescue the sled.The cause of the fire was that I didn’t unlock the brake lock.I burned Aki’s new sled in my first experience of riding a sled... The cashier gave us a surprised look and asked “what will you do with all this food?!”, and I said “We are going to have a 2-day BBQ on the mountain!!!”. As soon as I said that the children were so excited!!! At the house, we had to separate the 2-day’s groceries and cut all of the veggies and meats. This work was sooooooo hard!!!2 day’s food for 15 people...can you imagine how much food we had to precook?????I really thought that the school lunch ladies didn't do much!! To Be Continued... 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 05/08/07 天気の悪い日が続きすぎー。 Way too much bad weather! コニシです。いや、写真は翔太ですよ。今日はくもりで山もガスってたけどゲレンデに滑りに行きましたー。翔太とコウスケとブラッコムへ。駐車場は霧に包まれてたけどゴンドラ、リフト、リフト、と乗り継いで上に着くと霧は晴れたが空はどんより。でも視界は悪くないのでパークでジャンプ。ちょっと見にくいけどジャンプしまくりました。ハーフパイプにも入りました。５月やっちゅうのにまだでっかいしきれい。ジャンプで飛びすぎてやられてる人を２人見ました。春のシャバシャバの雪は板の踏み方でスピードが全然変わるので気を付けなくては。人を当てにしたらあきませんねー。そろそろ晴れてくれんと困ります！heart houseには不格好なてるてる坊主が３人適当なとこに吊るされてます。ききめ無し！じゃあねー。It’s Koni! This is a photo of Shota.Today was cloudy and on the mountain was foggy, but I went riding to Blackcomb with Shota and Kosuke.The parking lot was engulfed in fog, but as we got up through the gondola and up the 1st lift and 2nd lift the fog was gone, but it was still cloudy. Despite being cloudy the visibility was not that bad so we went to the park and the half pipe. Surprisingly, even though it is already May the half pipe was so big and well groomed. I saw someone get chucked from the pipe for going way too big! When riding slushy snow in the Spring, everyone should be conscious of the speed that each board can generate. Yeah!いまheartのみんなでテントと寝袋を持ってモービルキャンプを計画中！楽しみだ〜〜[:イヒヒ:] We are now planning to go snowmobile camping with sleeping bags!Can’t wait! 05/02/07 今日は休憩！ Day off. どもです！フィルマーのケイジです。ここ何日かハードな撮影が続いていたので今日はみんなオフしてます。最近、もう山の下の方は雪がとけてきていてモービルでの撮影が大変になってきました…。砂利道が長くて長くてモービルがかわいそう。[:ひやひや:]Hello, it’s Keiji.We had some hard days lately and everybody is taking a day off today.The snow at the base of the mountain is melting fast, so shooting with our sleds is getting harder because the dirt road ride is getting long. I feel sorry for riding our sleds in those conditions. These are some photos from shooting with Tadashi two days ago.We woke up early but the weather wasn’t good, so we went back home once and waited. We kept checking on the conditions and skateboarded while we waited.In the afternoon, the weather was getting nice so we went shooting.There was still a threat of avalanches but we could shoot okay. これは2日前、忠と2人で撮影に行って来た時の写真。朝早く起きたけど、天気があまり良くなかったので一度家に帰り待機。様子を見に行ったり、スケートしたりしていると昼頃には天気がよくなってきた出発。まだ斜面によって雪崩やすくて怖かったけど、いい感じに撮影できました。 もういい時間になったので（19時すぎかな？）帰ろうとしたら忠のモービルが突然ストップ。マジで〜！何でいきなり！？って感じだったけど、とりあえずモービルを引っ張って帰る事にしました。 急な登り坂を登りきれずに2台とも転がったり、ロープが切れたり、つないでいたモービルのパンパーが折れて飛んできたり…あたりはすっかり暗くなってきて、途中で忠がキャンプファイアーしちゃったり。（笑）砂利道もず〜〜〜っと引っ張らなくちゃいけないので忠のモービルは大変な事になっちゃってます。。。It was about time to leave (7pm) when Tadashi’s sled stopped suddenly.We were like “What the hell! That’s so sudden!” but we just had try and get back home for it was getting dark. You do not want to be in the backcountry overnight!On the way back, we had such a hard time like...We both fell because we couldn’t climb up the slope, and the rope that connected our sleds broke off and the bumper flied off right at me...While all of this was going on, darkness arrived and Tadashi made a bonfire...etcWe had to tow the sled on the dirt road so Tadashi’s sled got very dirty.Finally we got to the parking lot but putting the engine-stopped sled into the truck was like pushing a dead elephant up the stairs.We needed one more man-power...Our muscle were so strained and we were so muddy.We started getting a natural high... 何とか車までモービルを引っ張ってこれたけど、動かないモービルを荷台に載せるのが大苦戦。一生懸命引っ張っても数センチしか動かないっス。。あと1人いればだいぶ楽だけど、たった2人だとかなり大変。。。超筋トレ。しかも泥だらけ。もうナチュラルハイっス。 1時間以上、知恵と力を振りしぼって、しぼりまくって何とか載せることに成功！もう嬉しくてハイタッチ！家に到着したのは23時半。かなりロングデイでしたね…。（苦笑） 心配して駐車場まで来てくれたタローさん達やみんなすいませんでした。[:たらーっ:]After an hour or so of using our brains and power we were able to put the sled on the car at last!High five!! We were so happy at that moment. IF you are bored you can play DEAL or No Deal...

2 trips down, 1 to go. Who's f*cking bright idea was it to get married in the Bahamas anyway? So yeah, I'm gonna run away soon, and come back sometime next week, hopefully with my sanity intact, and not too much damage done to anyone else's sanity.

well i guess i'll be waiting a bit longer for my new board as i just recieved word that the one i had ordered has been damaged in an accident

however, there is a silver lining to this cloud as they have offered me a santa cruz - perfect 11.

so i have to now wait another 3 days.

Rode at Chestnut Saturday with Annie & Jason. Park was closed but they had a couple rails, a box, & a jump set up on the main run. Of course I don't hit rails but for me the box & jump were nice. I did the biggest method I've ever done & I actually reached around & grabbed toe edge on it, although it wasn't on purpose. Then we had dinner & when we came back out the snow was a little icier, so I was kinda hesitant about hitting the jump again. But of course I did, and it was a big mistake. I don't know if I freaked out or if there was a rut in the transition, but I went forward off the jump & landed on my chin & knees, bounced onto my back & hit the back of my head, then I think flipped back over onto my stomach. To make this story shorter, I busted my chin open, bruised my knees (again) and bit the side of my tongue. Jason wouldn't let me ride anymore after I got my chin all bandaged up, so we left, & the whole way back to Rockford they made fun of me 'cause my tongue got all swollen & I couldn't tawk vewy well. When I took the bandage off & finally saw the damage for myself, I almost passed out. I think I cried a little too.
Sunday I went to Devil's Head with Annie & Forrest & rode like an injured person who's afraid to fall. It was a pretty short day for me. Hopefully my chin will be somewhat healed so I can ride park next weekend, maybe going to Boyne Highlands in MI 'cause I have to go pick up a surfboard :)
