Prospect Snowboards isn't in every snowboarder's daily vocabulary and we don't have a problem with that. Being a non-corporate anti establishment board company, I guess you can say our marketing isn't awesome. Well... our commitment to making amazing snowboards is awesome. While we aren't interested in corporate subculture that comes with being a mainstream snowboard manufacturer it doesn't mean the industry isn't recognizing what makes Prospect rad.
The New Kid in Town Prospect as an up and coming board company is getting tons of leverage from people and industry publications because of our "by snowboarders for snowboarders" core culture. Coverage on Snowboard-review.com, by the SoCal Skate/Snow crew Concreteownage.com, and abc-of-snowboarding.com shows our company is winning the favor of core industry players. Among the the best programs going in snowboarding is Prospect's Design Co-op which lets snowboarders and businesses design their own custom boards. Our Co-op gives designers real access to getting their designs published without paying a fortune for an individual custom board. So far, the Co-op has made custom boards for Honey Goat Brewery and Adrenaline Power Sports for the 09/10 season.

09/10 Prospect Gear
Prospect's board construction is also a constantly evolving machine to assure our boards take the beating you dish. Our 2 year warranty proves there is no doubt about the quality of our boards, but innovation with rubber dampening, bamboo sidewalls, seamless edges, and re-engineered carbon placements gives Prospect decks a super smooth ride and consistent flex. Also, our "Tangent tech" reverse camber snowboard is an amazing park and powder deck. The real secret; our convex base. If you want a base that rides super smooth in the powder and doesn't catch on rails in the park you'll never be disappointed. If tech isn't your concern, our "Vitality" line carries the best of both worlds: Built for lighter riders and urban riding the Vitality line yells fun. Other projects coming out of the Prospect development lab demonstrate our values for hand crafted goods. Our newest Project, screen printed Logo T-shirts are made by hand will killer comfortable shirts and no 2 are exactly the same. And last, but no least, our newest product, Prospect Graphite Snowboard Wax makes you board lightning fast in all conditions. It works by conducting electricity to minimize friction with the surface of the snow. Absolutely genius and made with environmentally friendly ingredients.

This Years First Contest
So here is our newest announcement the 2009 Prospect "Tweaked Trick Competition"; Winners walk away with a Prospect Grab bag and an Interview with Prospect. Here is what you need to do; send us a short vid of your favorite trick tweaked out and oozing with rad style. Whether throwing a double cork, a Backside Boardslide, or a 180, it matters less than how insanely steezy you can make it look.

ZERO STAR customer service for Sierrasnowboard.com . I would not recommend unless you like the feeling of banging your head against a wall (or theirs) after the transaction. I've been shopping online for years and have never had such excuses made up.
After 2 weeks of no word, they said, "Oh sorry, we're just so bogged up with orders we haven't shipped yours." After 4 weeks of waiting, "Oh sorry, your credit card didn't work so you'll have to order from us again, and, by the way, only one of the 4 items you ordered is in stock.

The Prospect Co-Op project has been setup so that anyone can submit snowboard artwork to a real snowboard company with a real chance to have it published.

We've been seeing some rad ideas coming from independent designers and its important for us to offer. This concept, designed by Lane Lederman remains nameless at the moment, so we're calling it the bush whacker for now.

Lane submitted his design to us through our Co-op and within a few weeks we will publish his board on our site with a chance for people to reserve their board in advance.

The point of our Co-op is to give guys and gals, like Lane, the chance to have their artwork published with a snowboard company.

Screw design competition where you will literally be one in 1,000 to win. Our Co-Op is natural selection. If you design kicks ass people will want it and we are here to help you make it.

If you are interested in creating your own board for our Co-Op then here is where to start.

1. Put together the most rad artwork you can think of, just don't copy other people's designs.
2. Submit your artwork and create a bio. What is your artwork about?
3. Tell all your friends about your board so they want to buy it.
4. Your friends reserve a spot to purchase your board.
5. Once a few reserve orders come it we'll print your design.
6. When it is time to print we'll call to complete the reserve orders.
7. We then invest in your design and publish it into our line of boards.

This is your chance to be a snowboard designer.

Check out our Co-op page for more information and to see the current line of concept art.

If you are looking to reserve a model for purchase email us at contact@prospectsnowboards.com

The first JumpCamp session was awesome! The conditions were wicked with all the new snow we've gotten on the Island in the last month. The season's have switched here this year; we had spring in the winter and now we're having winter in the spring. Man, it's total global weirding.... We had a gorgeous day on Saturday and all the campers loved the new park design. Sunday was a little soggy but that didn't slow anyone down and everyone really progressed their shred skills over the weekend. Thanks to all the coaches for their hard work and all of our killer sponsors for all the prizes!

Coaches Corner: Senor Brown, Cobra Commander and Captain Hatesalot.

Coach Myles getting all inverted.

Campers getting the bro assisted tow ins.

JumpCamp Exclusive:
Very rare photo of Coach Olaf Larsen skiing in a one piece suit. Even back when he was a two-planker wanker he had some serious style. Look at the outfits in this pick! Hahahaha.......  Actually they're not much different than the crazy outfits nowadays.

Hahahahaha........ man.

New JumpCamp whip! Yes folks, it's true. JumpCamp has gotten rid of the hoopty and picked up a nice new truck. Thanks to everyone at Brian McLean Chevrolet in Courtenay for everything. Go in and buy a vehicle and tell them JumpCamp sent you.

My Journal: people...
By: tooscoops

as a car saleman i just have to say...

people, its not my fault that you bought a car that sucks... its not my fault that you finaced it over 7 years... its not my fault that your gas milage isn't good.

i'm getting pretty sick of hearing customers come into my store and getting mad at the situation that they have put themselves in.

here are a few points;

if you don't have any money, don't expect me to get you financed.
if you can't afford a certain car, suck it up and get a cheaper one.
if you have 300000kms on your trade, don't expect to get 10 grand for it.
if you just went bankrupt, get something cheap, not new.
if you are 6 months into a current lease, just keep it till the end(or at least close).
if you have no intention of buying a car, don't take up too much of my time.
if you are unwilling to allow us to attempt to make money, we are unwilling to sell you something.

and lastly... if we didn't sell you the current problem you are driving, don't blame me for it.

Smokin Snowboards
Smokin snowboards
Smokin Snowboards
So the Smokin Snowboard factory tour last week had more to it than just the tour, we also went down to pick up some 2010 newly pressed decks. I was lucky enough to nab the new M.I.P. D.I.R.T. Rocker with Magne-Traction with some custom graphics brought to you by JP Lagos at Thesnowlife.com. I was even more excited to try out Smokin’s Magne-Traction since out snow has been rock hard as of late and last time I rode a board with magne it made the saying “Turns ice into powder” hold true. Friday afternoon of last week Squaw was still pretty firm with a nice east wind keeping things rather chilly, so what better time to go try out Smokin Jay “the evil genius’s“new concept.

My first thoughts was the same as any of the other reverse camber boards I have ridden, the nose seems to hook a little quick when you really get the board on edge. Once I detuned the nose and tail a little the board simply took off. The M.I.P. has a great predictable flex that reminds me of many of the old boards from the good old days. Jay doesn’t use fancy barely known named stuff to create his sticks yet he produces a board that rivals all those high-end uber scientific factories. The M.I.P. holds a super fun edge, makes a snappy turn and rebounds really predictably that you can stray away from the park and still rip turns. I have complained for a few years now that many companies are making boards to specific to one discipline and are hard to enjoy on every part of the hill. I think the smoking M.I.P. brings back the idea that you can have a great park board that doesn’t sacrifice the rest of the mountain.

If you are looking for a great park and all around board that’s actually handmade the new 2010 Smokin M.I.P. D.I.R.T. Rocker is gonna blow your mind.

What about the graphics? JP Lagos designed the graphic based loosely off the Obey “Obama” Poster series. Taking funny pictures and translating them into the Obey scheme, JP created a series of Bromodel snowboards. All the boards were either using Smokin’s 2010 M.I.P. blank or the 2010 Superpark blank. So the boards that were in the pictures being finished during the factory tour were none other than the bromodel boards. Special thanks to JP for including my funny grill on a snowboard and Smokin Jay for pressing a super fun board!

A couple years ago, I fell in love in Jay Peak. An otherwise cold, windy and miserable day would also prove to be one of my best. There is something to be said about visiting places that were the setting for important moments of your life. Since November 22nd was set to be opening day at Jay, and due to the personal significance of the resort, I decided to get a car load of bros to go down there and ride.

Yeti, Marc, and Brad on the lift
The unusual suspects of the bro-down in Jay.

The road trip started out early, I picked up Yeti and Brad, and with Yahoo! directions in hand, we proceeded east for what we hoped would be a good day of riding (first for Brad and Yeti, second for me). The drive was mostly uneventful up until the Canada-USA border where we got pulled aside by the customs agent. He asked us if we were carrying more than $10,000 in cash (I wish we had that much scratch). I guess he wanted to search our stuff to make sure we weren't secretly part of the wealthy elite.

Normally a customs search would be no big deal, however, in this instance Brad really needed to use the restroom. So he asked the customs agent "do you guys have a public washroom in here?" To which the agent replied "It makes no sense for us to have public restrooms here because if you were smuggling drugs you could go flush them, or if we say something you don't like you can smear the whole place in poo." (no joke, he said that). Of course that's when we realized that Brad had probably set off a red flag with his request. Fortunately it didn't take long for them to search the car and they didn't make a huge mess of it. Once we were out of visible range of the border, we had to pull over to the side of the road so Brad could take care of business.

Yeti and random guy with identical gapers.
Yeti meets his doppleganger. What are the odds of seeing two of the same gaper.

With our urinal emergency behind us, we continued on toward Jay. However, we ended up taking a wrong turn (we turned up VT-105 instead of VT-242). Once that feeling of being in the wrong place set in, we decided we should pull over and ask someone for directions. Fortunately there was a pedestrian up the way. Yeti started joking how it was probably hillbilly with a shotgun. As we approached, we realized that this guy did in fact have a rifle slung over his shoulder. Not to be deterred, however, we stopped and asked him for quick directions. He confirmed that we had in fact taken a wrong turn and kindly directed us on how to get back. We thanked him and made our way. When we finally arrived at Jay, we were stoked to realize that it was snowing pretty heavily.

No sooner had we started unpacking did the gaper hunt begin. The first victim: Yeti. He decided to rock a purple one piece but because he does it in typical Yeti style, it had a certain panache that couldn't be ignored. However, Brad had been instructed before he left to make sure to spray a gaper wearing skier, so he looked at Yeti and said "expect to be sprayed."

Although Yeti's was the first, it certainly wasn't the last gaper we saw. In fact no sooner had we gotten our lift passes did we notice another skier wearing the exact same gaper. An instant friendship was forged.

For our first run of the day, we decided to go with the more difficult of the runs that were available to us. The snow was good but the moguls were large and the visibility basically nil. Which is probably why we hadn't noticed that we had ventured onto one of the closed sections of the run. This is when I fell in the creek (I seem to do this at least once a year). None the worse for wear, I tried to make my way back to the lift except I found the going to be tough (Yeti and Brad were already way ahead of me). That's when I realize that I have about 2 inches of sluch caked onto my base. I finally cleaned it off so we could resume our riding.

Yeti and Brad standing in the snow.
Gene Kelly sings in the rain but Yeti and Brad sing in the snow. The Jay clouds strike on opening day.

We spent the rest of the morning shredding up any run that was open until our legs were sore and our finger tips frozen. We decided to head inside for a while to warm up our fingers and take a bio-break. This is when things almost went south. While going to the restroom, Yeti's iPhone fell out of his pocket. He realized it was missing and we spent the next 15 minutes or so re-tracing his steps trying to find it. After asking pretty much everyone in the lodge if they had seen it, and only seconds before Yeti lost it and started throwing tables around, he realized that it had fallen into the hood of his gaper. Crisis averted.

The rest of the afternoon was a lot more of what we experienced in the morning: snow, lots of riding, some freshies, some gapers, more snow, and lots of laughs (did I mention it was snowing). At one point, while marveling at the heavy snowfall, we came upon a guy sitting in the snow, seemingly trying to fasten up his bindings. What was significant was that he was complaining that he wanted to go back to Delaware. I said "But there's no snow in Delaware!" "Exactly" he said which made me wonder what he was doing in Jay in the first place.

Finally when it was time to call it a day, we packed up all of our gear and made our way back toward the border. Four hours or so and 63 litres of fuel later, we made it back to Canada's capital craving massages and sleep. We were thankful to have benefited from the mystical Jay clouds for a truly epic opening day in Jay and to have averted any potential buzz-kill worthy crisis. I was happy to have gone back to a really important junction place of my life. The day was truly epic but at the same time made me realize how much I missed those who could not be there.

Shaun White wins Nissan X-Trail Jam

Thousands of stoked out Japanese snowboard fans packed the Tokyo Dome for the legendary Big Air & Quarter pipe competition of the phenomenal 6Star Swatch TTR Nissan X-Trail Jam. Shaun White with the highest combined score from both the Big Air and the Quarterpipe, claimed the first 6Star TTR Title and 1000 ranking points of the 08/09 Season.

Horgmo, Piiroinen (FIN), White and Mueller duked it out in a heated battle that certainly stepped up the level of riding. Although favoured to do well, Mueller placed only 4th in the finals with a Cab 9, behind 3rd place finisher Shaun White who found himself on the podium once again after his sick Switch BS 9. Peetu Piiroinen gave White some much needed competition in the race for the 1000 TTR ranking points by also placing in the podium in both formats. It was super close, as Piiroinen took second in the Big Air with an impressive BS 9 Cork that had the Tokyo Dome on its feet in amazement. Torstein Horgmo walked away as the Big Air champ in Tokyo thanks to his consistent riding throughout the sessions. His Switch BS 10 in the finals finally carried him right to the top of the Big Air podium and to TTR World No. 3 . The best trick was awarded to Mueller who amazed everyone in the semis with his first ever Double Backflip in a comp.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE – SEATTLE, WA (October 20, 2008)-The development of a new digital download player by Ally Distribution will change the way people consume action sports films.  By adding an entirely new dimension to the distribution model, this free download player has the potential to expand the size of the action sports film industry by making a larger selection of videos more accessible to more customers than ever before.  Called the ALLY digitalDOWNLOAD Store, the company wanted to create something that would instill positive change throughout the industry by helping the people behind these films.  Ally president Kelly Dole explains,  "We had become increasingly frustrated with the distribution side of the action sports film industry and decided we wanted to develop something that would help change things for the better."

The player is an embeddable widget (hosted by a third party), which allows retailer and industry websites alike to offer high-quality, digital downloads similar to iTunes.  The full-length downloadable films are compatible with all platforms and all portable media devices.  Rockies Super-Rep Mike "Gags" Gagliardi remarked, "There are no out-of-pocket costs, no set-up costs, no inventory, and it's free to sign up.  Any person visiting your website has the opportunity to download a full movie for a decent price. My shops just collect a check every month."

The Ally Player is now available to any retailer, online retailer, sponsor, or individual who would like to offer films for download from their website,  MySpace page, Facebook page, or similar platform.  The Player has 20 current, full-length ski and snowboard videos available for download with new titles being added each week.

Instead of building a single download website and attempting to drive all web traffic to their own site, Ally figured-out a win-win solution that will soon see hundreds or even thousands of micro-stores playing free teasers and selling video downloads.  The effects of this new distribution model can be expected to increase sales and exposure dramatically for the films, the athletes and the sponsors while reducing the carbon footprint for all involved.

Ally Video and Distribution is headquartered in Seattle, WA as a rider owned and operated entity, specializing in the distribution of action sports films.  For more information on our films, trailers, and latest developments visit www.allyvideo.com and to check out the new video player go to www.allyvideo.com/downloadsfordollars.

Stefan Gimpl wins Freestyle.ch

After two days qualification it was Stefan Gimpl, Peetu Piroinen, Hampus Mosesson and Scotty Lago who met in the final. Thanks to his perfectly stomped fs 10,  Stefan Gimpl took home the victory and became Freestyle.ch 2008 champion.

The level of the competition was very high, but what could we expect from a plethora of world best riders that were invited. All in all it was first event of the season here in Europe and we can be sure that this winter comps are going to be a blast. Check out the final runs and some pics in the gallery.

SNOWBOARDERS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CHILD SEX SLAVERY

Wouldn’t it be rad if you could help make someone else’s life better by doing something you love? While you’re out shreddin, making turns and having a good time with your friends, someone’s life is making a turn for the better. We have come up with something pretty epic and it’s called the ZION POP Program (People of the Planet). The POP Program is people driven and is all about Social Justice. We have made it our mission to help out our fellow humans who have been dealt a bad hand. This is the part of ZION Snowboards that we call “serious fun.” There are some hardcore issues happening in our world and we thought it would be rad to involve  core snowboarders in making a difference. With the POP program we will be donating 10% of the sale of our participating products to charities that help make people’s lives better. Cool thing is - you can do this while you’re doing your switch backside 10’s or Tindy’s!

ZION is stoked to announce that our first partnership for the POP Program will be the Ratanak Foundation! ZION will be donating 10% of the sale of POP Products sold in our Flagship Online Shop to the Ratanak Foundation's New Song Project. The New Song Project is dedicated to

fighting child sex trafficking in Cambodia. We had a chance to meet up with Brian - the Founder of the Ratanak Foundation and we literally had our jaws on the floor after hearing about what was going on in the brothels of Cambodia with children as young as 5 years old. These children are being violated 10-20 times a day for a cost of 2 dollars per customer. Young virgins however, can go for up to five hundred dollars because customers that have AIDS believe they will be cured if they have sex with a virgin. You can imagine the devastation that this brings. The New Song Project is all about rescuing these children and rehabilitating them so that they can learn what if means to be a normal human being. The children that are rescued are brought to a top secret, high security location where they are in rehab for about 2 years. They are taught to be children again - most of them do not know what being a child is - they never got the chance. This stuff is not a cake walk - this is secret mission James Bond and Chuck Norris kind of stuff because the children need to be extracted from the brothels and pimps and then secretly brought to a safe location. As you can imagine the pimps do not want to lose their "product" so this is a very dangerous job for the rescuers whose lives are at risk every time they do a rescue operation.

The goal of the ZION Snowboards POP Program is to put as big a dent as possible into the beast of child sex slavery. Partnering up with the Ratanak Foundation is going to change children’s lives one at a time and give them a chance to be normal humans after everything has been brutally stripped from them.

ZION is a company founded and run by snowboarders. Our office is the mountain and the only suits we wear to work are snowsuits. We hope that building boards with maximum fun factor, offering products that set you apart at your local scene, and involving you in making other people’s lives better will get you stoked on ZION.
