Went to SkiBrule on Saturday November 22. I was just happy to be riding. My new Agent ROCKS! Ski Brule on the other hand sucked. They didn't have as many runs open as advertised and conditions were not even close to even just being OK. I had some problems with skiers. I had one slam into me on purpose and another tell me to stay off of his run. lol Kinda hard to do when there is only 3 runs open on the front side of the hill. Just a bunch of ass hats. So if anybody wants to see their kids get beat down by 45 year old men in tight pants, send them to Brule. I think that was my last trip there ever, unless im in the mood for a fight. Family Hill my ass.

My Journal: October Sessions
By: perrik

Well, unfortunately the website is still having some of it's hiccups and I can't upload pics to my galleries. Let's see if I can paste them in my post.

Session #1: Arapahoe Basin (10/18/08) The first session of the season! And now in Colorado! Awesome! Regularly I'll be doing this the first weekend of November in the Midwest and driving 2 and a half hours to Ski Brule for just one run of 20 sec. Here it was a nice 75 min drive and the run at A-Basin, was like 3 times the one at Marquette. I mean it was just one run but it will take me 4 to 6 minutes to get down! I was there for first chair and the first 3 runs I got in the singles lines without waiting at all. There probably was around 1,000 people in the first 3 hours but that number easily increased to 3,000 by 11:30. The second wave brought too many beginners falling in the middle of the run, the snow was tracked and with icy spots and the wait on the lift line was about 10 to 15 min... So I took my 8 runs and went home a happy rider after a good first session.

Took my last ride of the season yesterday. Rode at Ski Brule in 58 degree temps. Had a good time, and looking forward to wake boarding.

Jeez what a day. We used up our free tickets for Brule today.  The day started off looking pretty good. 1-2" of fresh powder and snowing on and off. The trails were realy slow. So we figured they would speed up when the powder got packed down a bit. It got faster alright. The only problem was once the powder was packed, it exposed all the ICE under it. There was patchy exposed ice is the worst possible spots. Injuries due from the ice: banged up left and right knee, left shoulder, and a believe I have a slight case of whiplash. I can't move my neck much. My son Nate broke his pinky finger. But it was OK cause he pulled his first 3 off a small jump. Bottom line was conditions were bad. They need more snow.

there's not snow in Marquette yet... but f*ck yeah we have waves! >>Superior<<

went for a little surf with the group.
i'm bad. but want to go out again and work on it.

early October, Brule is supposed to open.
very pumped for that.
it's going to get me all riled up,
and then not going to ride for another month or two until MQT. Mt. opens.

but very exciting.
lots of events to come around in the next month or two.
the MDP and ROME premier is hitting the Campus,
student sale at Casualties.

very pumped to be working these events!

So today was kinda like a few this week-I get up, start getting my gear ready and then I check the snow report.  3cms and only -8 is good enough for me to head up.  So I head into town, grab a juice and drop off some pics and hit the ski hill road.  There are literally less then 12 cars in the parking lot when I get there and its like 10:30-this is so sweet!  Drop off my bag, grab a $20 lift ticket (mon, tues and Wed for the next month is $20 adult and $10 kids-so sick) and hit the T-bar for a quick burner through the park.  Probably rode my first rail on that run-that stuff is for kids-haha!
Back at the top I decide, heck I'm going far left today to check out the steeps and trees over there.  Hmm once again my lack of local knowledge should have been going beep beep beep as the tracks became less and less and I went in with the few "adventurous" ones that were over here.  At this point I know what I can ride and what I can't and I'm in some good steep trees.  But ahead you can see that the hill "fades/drops" away-ah damn!  I knew I was in the mix here.  Unstrap, walk in a little further to scope the situation and sure enough, way past the "easy out" and not far enough to the next non-cliff band.  So on that note, I put my head down and began the march back up and out of this one-one of the first times I've had to turn around, but this was not happening with out more knowledge of the lines that I couldn't even see today.  Oh well I need the exercise.
Once back at Holy Smoke I was strapping in after a quick, "un pack my boots of snow" sessoin.   As my current luck would have it I broke a binding strap and then an "unbreakable" Burton boot lace-holy crap!  A little luck and a whole lot of patience later I was strapped in and got back to a chair.  To the truck I headed, adjusted my binders and grabbed my old boots (no fancy ass lace systems) and headed back up for a few more runs, but was smart enough to go home early.
Today was a day that I think the mountain wanted me to stay home,

Well I arrived on Monday night and I've been settling in ever since.  I'm staying in a sick cabin and have dial up internet, so pictures aren;t happening until I get to a cafe and post them.  Yesterday (friday) was my first day on the hill and it was nice to be in snow again.  I got school by a local-love that feeling when you are so off that you should just go home, but I stuck it out!! (Thanks for the quick tour Jess)
Did runs until I was too cold and tired, it was a great first day on the hill.  Plan is too head up tomorrow again but the weather could be in the -20s, so I'll have to see.  Tonight is a rail jam being put on by the local shop RAYZ-sickest store I've been in, in a while.   This is where I need to bring a camera and show you all what the comp is gonna be like-total professional set up!  Ok I'm out, but I'll keep you all updated.

So in less then a week I am packing up all my riding gear, laptops for work and throwing it all in the trusty 4Runner and I'm leaving this gross Fraser Valley in search of winter.  Yep I want to go to where there is snow on the ground for no less then a month.  These pseudo winters we experience are not working for me this year and I am going in search of a small town, a good hill and SNOW to shred on!
Wish me luck and I'll do my best to get good shots of where ever it is I go.

Here's a good little question for anyone that reads this, that and its kinda funny.  So I just got back from a good Christmas holiday where atleast I managed to get a fun day in at Sun Peaks, despite my want to ride like each possible day (but don't we all want that).

So last night I went for dinner with my good buddy Jordan and we were talking about our Christmas breaks.  I tell him all that I've been up to for the last while and he does the same.  Then he remembers "oh yeah Luc, my dad and I all went to Baker last week for a day too!"  I'm all "sick how whas it?"  Here I'm thinking I'm gonna hear of epic turns and deep pow.  Jordan proceeds to tell me that his dad was skiing and they were all having fun; learning 360's and crashing in the powder-you know general fun things to do in a wonderland like Mt.Baker.

So as the story continues I kinda wonder-"were you skiing too or boarding?" cause really it didn't have that "day on a board" feel to the story.  Jordan's reply almost made me choke:  "Naw man we rented snow blades!"  SNOW BLADES! WTF! was my reply.  At this point the thoughts of walking out on dinner and never speaking of this moment again were dancing angrily in my head.   Really how do you deal with a friend that SNOW BLADES at Mt. Baker on a any day, let alone a good snow day?

I know Jordan and I can still be friends but he'll have to hang his head in shame for a while!

Hell Yeah! the time has come to get back on the snow, set new goals to achieve and have fun everytime I can get on the snow with friends, havng a good ol time while snowboarding.
I'll be updating just this post since I was too lazy to keep a clear record of my Sessions last year. Hopefully I can meet my goal of 40 sessions! Leave comments on this blog if you rode with me during this season, it will help remember the good shredings and aventures of the winter! lol

Session #1 - Ski Brule, MI (Nov 4th) I was a little pissed that I missed the opening on 10/28 because I could've gone to ride for free. Nobody told me... Mother.... Good first time even with only log Jam open. Fun quarterpipe on the side of the run.

Session #2 - Ski Brule, MI (Nov 11th) Annie and Julie made the long drive from Flatlandia to ride with us @ Brule. We built our own jump and Annie slashed a couple of rails. Only bad thing is that I had a lot of speed going into a jump, lost control in the air and hurt my bad ankle... Sucks! Still hurts little bit, but I'm trying to get it stronger.

Session #3 - Tyrol Basin, WI (Dec 3rd) Ski Brule had the same 2 runs open so we decided to make the 3 hour drive to Tyrol. Met with Annie, Julie and Edgar. I was hitting the C-box all day without problems until I asked Jessica to take a video of me and wham! took a hard fall... Oh and Julie was mean and cutted me off from the back and we crashed. lol

Session # 4 - Norway Mountain, MI (Dec 9th) Norway had 5 runs opened. It was fun, the only thing is that there were no small features in the park so I didn't hit anything... We kept lapping Vali which had like 3 small jumps on the side of the run. At the end of the day, one of the chairs on the lift slid back and hit a ski patroller... Scary shi*t!

Session # 5 - Pine Mountain, MI (Dec 16th) I don't know why we've never gone to Pine since it's so close to Norway, but we loved it! They just had 2 runs open but the black diamond was very wide and super fun for carving! Got to practice my cross-under turns and ollies off the rollers. Hardly nobody on the hill so that was nice also. Can't wait for winter break so I can snowboard every day!

Session # 6 - Big Powderhorn Mountain, MI (Dec 22nd)

Session # 7 - Indianhead, MI  (Dec 23rd) *Powder Day*!!

My Blog: Day 5-6
By: daisys95gt

Friday night I picked up Annie in Rockford & drove up to Green Bay where we stayed with Erik & Jessica, then we rode at Ski Brule Saturday. I had so much fun, I actually lost my voice. Saturday I finally did my frist method, yeah!! After riding, we went back to Green Bay & went to Lambeau Field since Annie's a huge Packers fan. After she fondled all the Packers' statues, we drove down to Mt. Horeb (Tyrol Basin), and Forrest drove up after work and met us there. Sunday we rode Tyrol & ran into Palidon, Sans, Jake & Coco. The jump was back but it was already rutted out, & didn't take long for the approach to turn into a mogul field. I think I hit it about 10 times and it was so hard to keep my balance going into it, I did like 2 methods & every other time either fell or couldn't do anything. We hiked the rail park a little & I got frustrated because I couldn't get a comfortable line going into the box 'cause the transition was all lumpy, so I only tail pressed it once or twice. It was a great weekend though. It's always a great weekend when you learn a new trick, and have your riding buddies around :)

About a year ago I went on a trip to ski brule with my cousins youth group. We ate at this lodge place in the woods somewhere (it was really good.) There was even this old dude singin and playin the guitar. Anyways I'm just sittin up in the loft eating and sippin hot chocolate and pretty soon one of the guys in our group comes up to me and says "hey theres this guy down there who says hi". And I'm like huh? What guy. And hes like "i dunno who he is, but he told me to tell you he said hi." So I'm like ok... So then later we are getting ready to go and this guy is standing up on the steps .. just standing there and the guy in my group says "thats the guy that said hi" I was standing in a group of my girlfriends and I kinda thought... well he must be waiting for me to go over there and say hi back but theres no way im doin that cuz I don't even know him... if he wants to talk to me then he should come over here. Well until it was time to go I kept glancing over there tryin to figure him out...he kinda looked cute but I couldn't tell for sure under that baseball cap. Well he had missed his opportunity and It was time to leave. Later a girl from our group came up to me and told me that after I walked out the door the guy was like "Oh man!" and then he went back up the stairs. lol well guess I'll never know who he was.

Hello everybody! What a perfect way to start the snowboard season but with a new version of our beloved website! Nice!

Our first day at Brule, was pretty cool. It was weird but the first run I wiped out like 4 times cause I changed my stance width and angles, and was totally out of practice.
Second run it was like riding a bike, loved it! and it felt soo good to ride my new Rossi Premier. The Rome bindings are great. I actually ended up riding the cap straps in my toes, more comfortable.

Jess had some problems with her new board and bindings... she couldn't get used to it and that affected her riding. By lunch she was pissed off and switched to skis as usual. Don't blame her.

Overall it was pretty sick, looking foward for Thanksgiving Day were we'll probably get to ride with my bro-in-law and possibly some of the Illinois crew.

See ya!
