There's an old saying:  "Time flies when you are having fun".  Since I'm flying and having fun I'd like to know where the time is actually going.. Especially since I'm not seeing it fly by me when I'm in the air.. I know I know.. That's a bit corny on my part.. However it seems the older I get the faster time "flies".. As a kid I couldn't WAIT to get older and would constantly wish time would just hurry up.. I was having a lot of fun then too.. Now that I'm older I'm constantly wondering where the heck my time is going (since I never seem to have enough of it).. All that to say I wish time would slow up a bit now!

Now that I've got that out of the way on to the flying part.. In 2 more weeks I'm officially going to have my heli license!  2 weeks!  That is if I pass the final test.. I better pass as HOLY SMOKES have I worked hard for this.. I thought flying a heli would be a whole lot easier than this.. However it has proved to be challenging in the most unusual of ways..  In fact hovering has proven to be the hardest.. You'd think not but let me tell you it is alot like standing on a beach ball balancing while patting your head and rubbing your stomach while reciting the alphabet, all at the same time... My brain goes you want me to do WHAT!?!?!  And for some reason every now and again while I'm practicing my left foot gets a twitch in it and presses just a wee bit harder on that pedal.. I think every now and again it has a blond moment.. Laughing.. The first time I got full control of the heli I thought I was going to pass out from one part fear,  one part adrenaline and one part pure pleasure.. All in all I am having the best time..

Hope everyone is enjoying their spring as much as I am enjoying mine.. And CONGRATS to Mike and Kendra on their wedding!  I'm so psyched for you guys!  May you have a long full happy marriage ahead of you!

Forbidden Plateau Snow Report, March 10/09

Mountain temperature: nice and warm.
Wind speeds: fast at times, slower at other times.
Snowfall accumulation: 6 feet of snow.
Forecasts: more radness coming.
Upcoming events: "Tricks R4 Chicks" all girls camp presented by Rugged Riders and JumpCamp, March 14, 15.
JumpCamp Session #2 March 16, 17
JumpCamp Jam (one day) March 19

The first JumpCamp session was awesome! The conditions were wicked with all the new snow we've gotten on the Island in the last month. The season's have switched here this year; we had spring in the winter and now we're having winter in the spring. Man, it's total global weirding.... We had a gorgeous day on Saturday and all the campers loved the new park design. Sunday was a little soggy but that didn't slow anyone down and everyone really progressed their shred skills over the weekend. Thanks to all the coaches for their hard work and all of our killer sponsors for all the prizes!

Coaches Corner: Senor Brown, Cobra Commander and Captain Hatesalot.

Coach Myles getting all inverted.

Campers getting the bro assisted tow ins.

JumpCamp Exclusive:
Very rare photo of Coach Olaf Larsen skiing in a one piece suit. Even back when he was a two-planker wanker he had some serious style. Look at the outfits in this pick! Hahahaha.......  Actually they're not much different than the crazy outfits nowadays.

Hahahahaha........ man.

New JumpCamp whip! Yes folks, it's true. JumpCamp has gotten rid of the hoopty and picked up a nice new truck. Thanks to everyone at Brian McLean Chevrolet in Courtenay for everything. Go in and buy a vehicle and tell them JumpCamp sent you.

So next time you see me... holla like ya' know me!

Yummies and Gyros rule! Go get yourself a delicious gyro or donair next time you're in Courtenay. Maybe you'll be lucky and the gals will be sporting their beach wear. Thanks to Katherine and the crew for hooking us up.

wa-wa-wee-wa!!

Today I just arrived in Saas Fee for the first day of the FIAT rookie camp.. we all arrived in saas fee in the sun which became rain after a short and necessary lunch brake..  Romain de Marchi, the 15 kids and I. The rookies were selected based on small video parts they sent of themselves snowboarding, and invited by FIAT to come spend 3 days with us.. we first introduced each of us.. the hello my name is, i come from and my favorite trick is.. etc.. then we played beach volleyball in the sand with a soccer ball so right now i m pretty much soaking wet with about a pound of sand in my hair 2 radiating red fore arms and 2 scratched knees .. oh! and guess who is here? remember Ramona? the coolest letter i ever recieved? well her sister and brother are here.. and she draw another really cool pic!

our first riding day was chill.. i didn’t feel like riding much but it was cool to watch the kids ripping and to feel their motivation.. being in saas fee reminds me of when i came here to ride everyday for 4 months.. and those kids  are in that exact state of mind.. they want to shred all day everyday.. it s inspiring! after riding we had a run through the vita course with Romain explaining to the kids how important training is to avoid injuries.. and we played some more volley ball..

the second started with very icy slopes and kicker but got really fun after a couple hours.. it was fun to shred and to get some of their motivation. the afternoon was spent on tips on how to contact sponsors, the basics of a sponsorship contract and a couple of what to do and not to do on interviews.. then we went hitting some golf balls.. the cool thing with this camp is that they didn’t know eachother before coming here and now they are shred buddies! i m sure they ll keep in contact with each other the camp.. and that’s really cool!

sunday sunny morning on the glacier of saas fee judging all the kids hitting the last 2 kickers of the park.. out of the 15 rookies, it was cool to see the 2 girls shred.. Anais Cettou was doing good on her frontside 360 and 540.. for the boys the top 3 rode really well; Basile Specker got 3rd with stylish and good amplitude on backside 720 to frontside 720, David Bertschinger finished 2nd with good style on frontside 900 to cab 720, and our FIAT ROOKIE 2008 is Patrick who stomped almost each time with great style and technicity, changing tricks on each of his runs, backside 720 to frontside 720, cab 900, switch backside 900 to backflip (those are the stomped ones).. quite impressive for a 14 years old!!

I was stoked to take part of this FIAT camp and get to meet all those young shredders.. hopefully i ll see them soon again.. they’ll probably take my job soon enough!

The twin ninja babies are here! We love Mexico. Kale..

Congrats Tadashi and Yuko on the cutest twin ninja babies I've ever seen. Can't wait to meet them.

Its a fact, we love mexico. I remember. not too clearly but I do remember celebrating Halloween dressed as what we "drunk Canadian teens" thought mexicans looked like for something like 3 years in a row.

The photo above of Dev and Kale was taken somewhere around 98. I think we dressed up as mexicans for like 3 halloweens in a row... It only took us roughly a decade to finally come out with a goggle dedicated to the special little place in the world that blessed us with fish taco's, salsa, guacamole and terrible hangovers. Better late than never. Mexico, this ones for you!

Kale news: Kale has devised a new method of remembering all the super important things he has to do on a daily basis.

Ladies and Gentlemen, can I please have your attention...

Our office is located in East Vancouver. For those who don't know East Van has a bit of a bad rep. Everyday I show up for work there's something weird going on. Here's just a taste of what I witnessed Today.

Actually this isn't that weird, its my collection of old skate shoes. If I actually still skated there'd be way more up there.

This was in the way of the first place I was gonna park, no biggie but then I

Roll up to the next spot and See Mic Mac invited a buddy to live next to him on our street.

Steve scored the only decent parking spot left on our street snuggled in tightly to some old mattresses.

When we told Dave about the old mattresses he rushed right out and tried to 3 flip them.

As I capture the moment our good buddy Birdie strolls by. Just a warning if you run into Birdie in our hood or at the Bourbon on any given Thursday night... He's more of an outdoor, keep a good distance, don't actually talk to him, just take a photo while you're driving by and hope he doesn't throw anything at you type bud. We tight though..

Dev "the boss man" gets another TWS cover!

Here's the cover of the September issue of Transworld Snowboarding.

Dev was the only one out of the crew to hit this death gap. When "the crew" includes Jussi Oksanen and Andrea's Wiig it really puts into perspective how insane the gap is. Dev truly is the King of modern day back country riding. It's gotta be the goggles.. Look out for his part in Double Decade. He'll blow your mind... Again!

Zeddy called me to say: Hey did you know Todays international sex day!

Update from J man's Portuguese vacation:

Only J Man would meet sand ninjas on his first day in Portugal. I was skeptical too till he sent me this photo to back up the story.

The sand Ninjas were kind enough to take J Man in as one of their own and share their Choco Crack with him.

While enjoying the new exciting Portuguese treat J Man saw what seemed to be a familiar character dancing in the distance.

Thinking it was Zeddy stuck in a dance trance, he ran up to greet his good buddy.

As he got closer he realized it wasn't Zeddy at all. It was actually a young gentlemen by the name of Alvaro. The two conversed on the beach the rest of the day and have now become inseparable. Alvaro, pictured above in the stripes has since invited J man to join his Portuguese folk dance crew.

They'll be touring Portugal for the rest of the month.

One down, a bunch to go...

! made! Through my first week back to work from vacation that is and wow, what a doozy it was. Not sure if its just me but I never feel rested or relaxed after time off. I actually usually feel like I need another vacation. I must be doing something wrong.

See the shades Tman's sporting in the photo above. They're the Mont Royal white stripes, we're all sold out of em. Leave a comment below if you think we should do another run. If you need them right away I did see one pair in the display case at Boardroom on west forth yesterday after lunch. Good luck.

Sometimes I wonder if I have a disease.. Could be something simple as having ADHD or it could be something more complex.. All I know is that after extended periods of time (mainly a couple of months) of doing the same thing I get bored… I constantly crave excitement.. I am prone to boredom if I’m not doing something and without a doubt an adrenaline junky.. However I think my "disease" is more complex than just simply being addicted to the rush I get from an adrenaline spike..

All that to say that after several month of working 80 plus hour work weeks I have given myself 2 months off.. Time to let loose and run away a bit from responsibility.. Thus far I’ve spent 1 ½ weeks in CO visiting beloved family and decompressing.. Even played a bit of tourist.. Even though I spend A LOT of time in CO every year it was still fun to play like I’d never been before.. Many of us often forget how exciting life can be and the beauty of all that surrounds us.. Now I’m in CA.. Again visiting family but with some long time friends thrown in.. Thus far I’m practicing being a beach bum and have been spending time wakeboarding.. This morning I was sitting at my cousin’s kitchen counter cruising through a bowl of cheerios and scanning over my e-mail.. In a cheerio induced daze I spotted a strange species.. Said species gave a grunt as it strolled in with that long, long lean, edging toward gawky body dressed in navy boxers and a tattered Yoda T-shirt.. Sun streaked brown hair rumpled and messy with sea green eyes all groggy and maybe just a little bit cranky before its morning coffee.. Laughing.. Sad to say it’s been a while since I’ve seen a man in boxers (hence the strange species) and I’ve got to admit my eyes were a bit riveted to the sight!!!! And NO said man was NOT my cousin! Tomorrow I head to the X-Games.. Can’t wait to throw myself into that mash of excitement.. I’m hoping one of the boys might fall victim to my baby blues and let me toddle around on their dirt bike.. After X I’m headed to New Orleans to aid on a house construction for Habitat for Humanity.. I may look girly but I’m such a tomboy.. Granted my aide will mostly involve yard rehab and interior painting.
Update.. After New Orleans I headed to WY to hang with my brother and visit friends.. I let my friend Mallory, talk me into getting my hair cut.. OMG.. I look in the mirror now and go "WHO ARE YOU"?!?!" Laughing.. Later on my gal pals and I went mtn biking at Jackson Hole.. OMG is that mtn HUGE on a bike.. We girls were freakin flying!  It was a blast.. Even when we got a wee bit off trail and did a bit of "adventure" biking in the woods.. Woohoo..  My poor brother.. He's the other half of my heart but soo not the freak of nature energy wise that I am.. Laughing..

And now.. HOME SWEET HOME.. The best place in the world!

Shred news, latest stories, scandalous photos, gossip and up-to-the minute rumours
Well well well, where to start?

Yes, the JumpCamp season is officially over. We had an amazing year with five wicked camp sessions and even had a bonus session at the end of April because of all the snow. Campers came from far and wide to progress their shred skills and strengthen their freeriding skills and man, did they. Everyone loved the new obstacles in the park and took full advantage of them. We even got snowed on during the bonus camp. Fresh powder in April?! I mean c'mon, fuggedaboudid! Keep an eye on the photos section of the site for the rest of this year's pics and footage. Thanks to everyone that shot photos during the camps.

It's BBQ time!

This time of year all the bros go their seperate ways working and taking care of business to pay for trucks, sleds and sandwiches for next year.
Myles is off in the interior of BC treeplanting. Haha poor kid...
Doug is in Cali making $ at skatecamp. He might even move out of his Dad's house this year.
Ole is "working" on Denman. He's planning on converting his mini dumptruck into a snowcat for next year.
Patrick just got some metal taken out of his ankle so he's layed up for a few weeks reading gardening and landscaping books.
Matt, Joe and Morgan have been tubing down the river in wetsuits.

Last Shred On Forbidden
The season's have finally changed and it's been real hot lately on the Island. Everyone's in summer mode getting their bikes, hawaiian t-shirts and skates out. The snow on the mountain has been melting fast so we thought we better take advantage of it and ripped up Forbidden for one last shred.

As you can see, not too much snow at the bottom of the hill.

Coach Joe Conley enjoying the Forbidden Plateau driving range. Joey is extremely excited about integrating more golf  into JumpCamp  for next year .

Coach JoeCon goin' for a dip in the pond with the mutts.

JumpCamp movie coming out next year! Yes, my friends we're finally editing all of our footage and putting out a shred flick so keep posted for premiers, parties, etc in the fall...  It will most definitely shock and inspire all viewers.

Wednesday theme slash trusty technics..

Not sure if you've noticed but this is my third blog post in 3 days. Yes, I'm trying to live up to my word. What to blog about today?? Boring team news like??? ah... Kales sleeping, Duff drank 10 coffee's, Dev's golfing, Mikey has a new weird voice mail message, Wille's experimenting with a new hair cut, Tadashi's eating rice... Nah.. I know, I'll use my trusty google and youtube search technic.

Its Wednesday so I googled "Wednesday images". Super creative, yes I know. Anyway, this is the gold that appeared.

You don't stop when you're on a hot streak so I hit youtube next, searched "Wednesday" again and tadah

I've never seen the movie "Big Wednesday" but will definitely be hunting it down to bring along on my "surf trip" or more realistically "drinking beer on the beach trip" at the end of the month.

You ever realize that once you're on youtube its almost impossible to get off. Its like internet crack. 90 percent of the time you're just watching junk but at the time its more like a butter sandwich. So good going down but you know its bad for you. I don't even know why I'm posting this but I bet you'll watch it till the end.

I guarantee your favorite action sports brand will be sponsoring these dudes next week..

Hi all!! Yes I was in brazil for some surfing before the season really takes off!!
It felt soo great!! The trip was my brother, my boyfriend and I! We landed in Rio de Janeiro and directly drobe to Ubatuba on the beach of Itamambuca where you can surf all day long!! We found a sick Pousada (www.tocadoguaiamum.com.br) at the very end of the road.. we would wake up, grab the surfboards and walk to the beach.. we had to walk 5 min in the jungle and then cross a river to get to the beach!! We felt like adventurers..that place is soo sick!! All the 10 olds from the village surf there all day and they kill it!! They are mad good!! I got some surf tips from a 7 year old brazilian piece of woman who was surfing 1 meter waves!
After a week we drove back through Rio to Buzios.. the St Trpez of Brazil.. we found the good local spot just outside of Buzios in Tucuns, it felt so nice to be with just some locals and not the whole jet setters crowed.. we couldn’t speak a word of Portuguese.. but made friends with the other surfers in the water.. I got soo stoked to surf some waves that were kind of big for my swiss surf level.. anyways we got kind of tiered of the spot and went back to our paradise itamambuca for another week of chill and surf..
Which was soo awsome sick sweet yeah!! Loved it!!
Of course we went to Rio for another 3 or 4 days to enjoy Copacabana, ipanema, see the Christ and Dance Samba..
It felt quite funny to celebrate Christmas in the south atmosphere where where santa was melting under his red coat!!
Aight!! Up for winter now!! Cant wait to shred some powder!!

My Blog: Whateva...
By: goghie

Since it's impossible for me to add new post to my blog for months now, I'll just edit the last one...

Don't know about you guys, but summers are too long for me...

I work, I study, but no real fun to free my mind and forget about everything! Winter seems ages away now... I try to shorten the time on the beach, but nothing makes me happier than snowy mountains and winter chill! *sigh*

The only thing that really helps is paintball! We organize matches on daily basis, good opportunity to get rid of excessive energy as well as have a big fun! But then again, nothing like fresh powder...

Common winter, hurry up! And you'd better be good...

If you like to go out of bounds with a board or two and a camera, it’s time to bring your images in-bounds to Whistler Arts Council’s 4th Annual Out of Bounds: Tales from the Backcountry exhibition!

Presented in partnership with Coast Range Heliskiing, Out of Bounds is a popular photo contest and exhibition for both amateur and professional photographers. This year, Coast Range Heliskiing will again sponsor a People's Choice Award for Best of Show. One photographer and one member of the voting public will win a free heliskiing trip with Coast Range Heliskiing. Additional prizes will be given out at the opening reception, as well as to the runner-up. Winners will be announced at the end of February 2008.

The juried exhibition features photographers from the Sea to Sky Corridor and throughout B.C. with images of skiing and snowboarding in B.C.’s beautiful backcountry, whether accessed by foot, snowmobile, helicopter, watercraft or dogsled. The 2007 exhibiting photographers were Chris Christie, Bonny Mackerewicz, Don Cole Harvey, Greg Eymundson, Toshi Kawano, Dave Humphreys, Dagan Beach, Duncan MacKenzie, Andrew Bradley, Andre Munck, Alex Wigley and two-time Out of Bounds winner, Blake Jorgenson.

Eligible entrants include amateur and professional photographers living in the Sea to Sky Corridor and throughout B.C. An impartial jury will select the photographers who will be showcased and eligible to win. Submissions will be judged on artistic merit, composition, technical skill and adherence to show theme Out of Bounds: Tales from the Backcountry (no chairlifts please!).

Images that have been computer manipulated and/or developed into artwork will also be eligible in a separate category. These images will be exhibited separately and are not eligible for the Heliskiing prize. Please contact the Whistler Arts Council for details.

Images will be exhibited throughout the month of February 2008 at Millennium Place. The exhibition kicks off with another packed-house opening reception on the first weekend of February. The evening includes draw prizes, a DJ and appetizers.

Submission deadline is Friday, Jan. 4, 2008.

I've been back in Alaska for a while now. Not permanently, mind you, but mostly. In and out. I spent 3 weeks in the Tahoe area.. that was fun. Been back and forward between here and San Francisco for most of the year.

Moving there in January.

Alyeska already has 300+" through November. Let's hope for another amazing December, especially now that they semester is up.

Being in San Francisco is going to be nice. Only live about a 20 minute walk from the beach, like a 5 or 6 minute bus ride.

Yup.

Live is good. Life is good.

Hey, it’s Tadashi. I’m in Methven, New Zealand for BURTON a shoot.
As I expected it is so cold… I was in summer heat yesterday, you know!
Today, I didn’t go snowboarding but instead went skateboarding for some fun.

This picture was taken when I had a BBQ with Manabu.
That was so nice to have a BBQ at the beach. Hearing the lapping of the waves was really good and I felt comforted...

Dave & Yuho本当におめでとう!

The wedding cake was handmade by Yuho’s friend.
Two snowboarders were on the top of it.

We had sooooo much fun at the party at night!!
Everybody danced like crazy with DJ Ryan.
It was not like any Japanese wedding...Canadian weddings are kind of casual and freestyle. The people who came in later to the party were like they just came from work.

I like the way they party in Canada.

Dave&Yuho, we are all really happy for you two!!! Congratulations!

帰国しました!! We are back!!

Hello! This is Keiji.
The editors(Taro, Nobu and me) came back to Japan today.
It’s hotter than we could imagine… I thought I would melt!

We were so busy on the last day in Canada packing, cleaning up and keeping our sleds in appropriate places etc…
But we could have a last drink with our room mates and that was so great.

We got in Canada on December and spent a whole six month filming and two month for editing. Now finally we have reached the stage that we can show you the video...
On August 19, we will have the first preview party at the Applestore in Ginza, Tokyo!
Let’s kick it!!!

夏真っ盛り。 Midsummer!

帰国した次の日に東京湾花火大会がありました!

家の屋上から少しだけ花火みれたんですよ。

ほとんどの花火がビルの影でみれなかったけどきれいでしたね。

写真はその中でもよく撮れた方です。

The day after we came back, there was a fireworks exhibition at Tokyo Bay.
Most of the fireworks were hidden by buildings but the ones I saw from my roof were so beautiful!!

These are the best shots of the fireworks.

夏は夏でいいですね!

This is what makes summer so nice!

次の日は地元、富岡八幡寓の祭りがやってました。

水をかけられながら町中を練り歩きます。

来年が三年に一度の本祭り。江戸三大祭の一つで、神輿が54基もでちゃうんです。

The next day the festival of the Tomioka-Hachimangu was held in my hometown.

People were carrying Mikoshi (a portable shrine) and were walking around town, and people along the road were carrying water with hoses and buckets. (aka; Watering Festival)

Next year’s festival will be the big one that is held every three years.
Tomioka-Hachiman- Festival is one of the three big festivals of Edo (Tokyo), and there will be 54 Mikoshis in the street next year.

I’m going to Tadashi’s hometown tomorrow with Nobu to go see the community festival there.

The festival is held annually and this year’s highlight is the snowboarding that will be held there. People will make man made snow and everybody will snowboard in the middle of summer!

I can’t wait to see it!

I’ll post it for you too!

Hello People, Sorry this is a very late blog I wrote it like one and a half months ago but according to the Snowboard.com website problems and the problems with my broken Computer I couldn’t post it earlier. Sorryy, but here it still comes. I hope you are all enjoying a good summer wherever you are. Since my last blog where I reported about my last few days in school a lot happened in my life. At first, when summer school vacation started I spent a few days at home to have time with my familie and then I went on holiday to Croatia with my girlfriend Tine and my friend and Isenseven Crewmate Peter König. We had a pretty good time there, a lot of sun, good food, snorkling or just enjoying in the sun to get some Energy for our snowboard trip to New Zealand one week later. Here a few pictures I made in Croatia with my new cellphone Nokia N95 which O2 offered me to picture my trips. Then I went to Munich for my first real Concert in the famous „Atomic Cafe“ Bar, the Band was called „Voxtrot“ from Texas United States and it was just amazeing to watch them playing the tunes. Then the last day before our Flight left, I went surfing with Marco Smolla at the „Eisbach“ river in the centre of Munich. So much fun, there is a big Wave in the middle of the city. It was pretty hard for me the first time but it was real fun. At the next morning, Marco Smolla, Andre Kuhlmann, Peter König and me checked in at Munich Airport. After our last Weißbier and Weißwurst at the Airport Restaurant, we entered our Airplane and left Bavaria. On our trip we stopped at 4 different Airports and one gas station to get to our final destination. According to this 2 day long journey we where pretty excited to move our sore bodies and go Snowboarding. Thanks to Marco and Jorma, that they managed everything about the house and rental car before we got here. The mountain where we always ride here is called Snowpark, it’s one hill consisting of one huge Snowboard Park. With a Superpipe, Quarterpipe, a bigger Jump Line and 2 smaller jib lines on each side with different Obstacles, boxes, rails and smaller jumps. From now on we have one week left. One day we made a trip to the Western Coast of the country which was very exciting, we had barbecue on the beach with our friends from Switzerland and got a view of New Zealand great Landscape. My Journal: euro trip
By: O-Henry

London – We flew into Heathrow and the plan was to catch a train to Jamies grandmothers house in Oxford but her house was flooded.  So we got a tube to Camden & met up with Jamies cousin David who agreed to let us stay for a few days.  The first night in London we met up with some of Jamie’s friends.   We didn’t really want to do any of the touristy stuff in London, but we did go the National Gallery and Trafalger Sqaure. The exchange rate for pounds to Canadian dollars was pretty brutal so we didn’t spend much.  We caught up with a friend from school, Nicole who was in Kensington.  We walked past Hyde Park but we didn’t go check out the Princesss Diana memorial, so I didn’t get the chance to pee in it.  If London wasn’t so ridiculously expensive I would love to live there, going to the pub for a pint is a great way to spend an evening.

Amsterdam – I knew this would be the highlight of the trip, I’d heard a lot of stories about what we should do and where to go in Amsterdam.   To be fair there is a lot of cool stuff to do if sex drugs aren’t your thing …. we did go visit Anne Franks house, and the Rijksmuseum which has about 1000 Van Gogh and Rembrandt paintings.  But my favorite museum was the Heineken Experience which lovingly tells the story of Hollands favorite beer with interactive displays.  As you make your way through the “museum” there are 3 different pubs where you get to sample the beer.
The nightlife in Amsterdam is amazing, we went to Boom Chicago which is an improv comedy club.  I was surprised how everyone in Holland spoke English, and the Dutch have no accent.  It sounds a bit American and a bit English, but I would have a hard time spotting a Dutchman.
I wanted to check out a coffee house in Amsterdam, but I was not planning on trying any drugs.  We went into a coffee house on the first night & they had a menu of what you could buy – they had cookies and brownies and doughnuts, and hashie milkshakes.   I tried a brownie, it was supposed to be the equivalent of 2 joints.  I think I was more influenced from the jug of beer we had at boom Chicago.   On our second night in Amsterdam we decided to get a gram of marijuana.  I’m not an expert but it was good stuff.  Amsterdam has to be one of the most interesting places, the people dress like Vogue models.  The red light district was not as sleazy as I expected, it seemed pretty touristy actually.   I was surprised when Jamie suggested we go see a live sex show, I was happy to try anything & everything we could on our trip. It was just regular sex, a guy & a girl, 2 lesbians and then a jungle woman with triple-D boobs having sex with a guy in a gorilla suit.  It was something fun to do as a one-off, but I don’t think it would be something you would do every week, like instead of going to the movies you would catch a sex show.
On our last night in Amsterdam we met up with the rest of our Contiki group.  There were 50 people in our group, mostly Australians & New Zealanders and some South Africans, Canadians, Americans.  There were a couple of Brazilians and Tawainese too, so it was a good mix of people.

Munich – we were all pretty hung over when we left Amsterdam at 6am to drive to Munich, Germany.  Our tour guide was Rachel, a cool chick from New Zealand, she basically talked to us like a school teacher & told us we would have to stay with the group & leave when she told us or they’d leave without us.  We arrived in Munich at about 4PM, just in time to go see the Glockinspeil.  Rachel told us it was the highlight of Munich … basically it’s a huge cuckoo clock. It went for 10 minutes, and there were literally 1000s of people watching.  When the clock finally stopped chiming we went for a tour of Munchen.  In the middle of the city is a park where office workers go & sit and eat their lunch and take their clothes off … it was a nudist park!  We went to a beer hall in Munich for dinner, the very one where Hitler used to go to give some of his famous speeches.   German food is pretty good, the main course was literally just a pork leg … no vegetables, no side dish, just meat!  I had 2 steins with my dinner so I don’t remember miuch else happening in Munich, except back at the hotel half the group went to bed & half the group went to the bar for another drink.  Jamie and I met a local Munchen man who offered to buy us a drink, cos he enjoyed speaking English and just wanted to talk to us …. ahh ok we went to bed pretty quickly then.   We drove to Switzerland the next morning, but we did make a stop at the Dacchau concentration camp, they turned the original buildings into a museum. I have to respect Germany for not trying to cover up their darkest chapter in history.

Geneva / Lucerne / Zurich – the trip itinerary was very full, we spent a lot of time each day on the bus traveling to our next destination.  We arrived in Zurich at lunch time, it’s the one city in Europe that looked exactly how I expected & was looking forward to explore it.  Too bad Rachel gave us 30 minutes to see the city & have lunch …. just enough time to grab a McSwiss burger.  The Swiss Alps were beautiful and I definitely want to go back with my snowboard.  It was funny seeing the Australians and South Africans get excited about seeing snow for the first time.  In Lucerne we saw a yodeling demonstration and had a traditional Swiss dinner.  But the highlight of Lucerne was the hotel, which was basically overtaken by our group.  It’s where the group really bonded, and I leant heaps of new drinking games.

Cannes / Nice / Monaco – it was a long drive from Lucerne to Cannes, with a short stop in Zurich.  When Rachel gave the group the choice of having a quiet night at the camping grounds or going to Monaco we unanimously voted for Monaco.  Jamie & I were dressed up to hit the Grand Royale casino …. I wanted to order a vodka martini, Jamie wanted to bet 10∍ on black.  There was a 20∍ cover charge to enter the Grand Royale, so we hit the mini-casino next door.  Jamie was insistent that he was going to gamble in Monaco so he put 10∍ in the giant slot machine … and won 950∍! Back in Antibes we got a bottle of vodka to celebrate.  The funniest moment of the trip was in Monaco when Rachel pointed out Prinicess Stephanie’s palace to us, and Aussie Dave yelled out ‘jeez its bloody nice hey, I thought my house was nice but this is bloody beautiful!’.  We got to spend the next day in Cannes, you feel like a schmuck seeing all the sports cars and huge yachts and villas.  The only other interesting thing that happened in Cannes was a guy in our group nearly got arrested for taking photos of topless women on the beach.  There was a circus with lots of carnival rides next to the campgrounds where we were staying.  After a few beers a bunch of us went on the giant drop, it wasn’t until we got to the top when Derrick reminded everyone about the 13 year old girl who lost her feet on the same ride.  But we survived and went back to the huts for more beer and card games.

Barcelona  -  Spain was the last stop on our contiki trip.  I’ve always thought that Italy has the worlds most beautiful women, but Spain is a serious challenger to the title.  The architecture in Spain was amazing.   It was the groups last night & we went to a flamenco demonstration & to a nightclub which was I was looking forward to doing for the whole trip.  I tried Sangria in Barcelona, which was pretty smooth so I drank more and more.  Maybe it was the alcohol but everybody was pretty emotional about it being our last night, a bunch of us are planning on reuniting for another contiki trip next year.

Paris – Jamie & I flew to Paris the next morning .  Air travel in Europe is realy cheap, our tickets were $30, the same that it costs me to get a train to Toronto!  I’d been to Paris twice before & Jamie had been a bunch of times before too. We had 3 nights in Paris and Jamiie said he wanted to blow his 950 winnings from Monaco on a fancy hotel, but we eventually decided to stay at a hostel.  We got a room at the Woodstock, a pretty famous hotel near the Sacre de Couer.  We’d planned on doing a lot in Paris,, but we were both pretty knackered, so we ended up going to the Louvre and Les Invalides.  We met a Scottish guy at the Woodstock who spoke fluent French and he & Jamie explored the Latin Quarter.  I thought the Parisiens were pretty rude, but I would have been disappointed if they weren’t.  We got kicked out of out hotel room at 10:30 (they have a rule you’re not allowed in your room between 10:30 and 5), and our room got flooded from the sun roof that was left open.   Our last night in Paris was the best night of the trip, we were planning on a having a few quiet beers at the Woodstock, but the bar was full of tourists participating in a drinking Olympics.
