He's had sick video parts throughout the last decade and more recently with Sandbox and Sugar Shack. Snowboard Canada also just did a 10 page story/interview  about Etienne in their 2009 Buyer's guide issue. Welcome to the team.
Other new pro coaches for this year: Chris Dufficy and Chris Wimbles.

(Monday December 17th 2007) After much speculation and an industry-wide rumour mill, StepChild Snowboards is proud to announce the signing of JP Walker to the International Pro Team.

"JP's riding and dedication to snowboarding speaks for itself- not many snowboarders have remained at the top of their class for over ten years. We are absolutely thrilled to have him on the team. It's cool that we share the same values and beliefs as to what a snowboard company and team should be." - StepChild founder Sean Johnson.

" Where else would I end up? Come on, you know I keep it one-hunney! StepChild is one of the last true snowboard companies out there. I love that they value what a professional rider brings to the table. Rider owned and driven, others claim it but none live it, son!" - JP Walker.

There's no denying JP has had a huge impact on the sport of snowboarding over the past decade. Anyone who knows anything about snowboarding is familiar with JP's video parts. Over the years he set a new standard filming with MDP and for some of the biggest selling team videos of all time; he invented tricks and numerous first-ever-bangers caught on film. JP's riding and style has stayed relevant even in an era marked by the X-Games, reality shows, corporate takeovers and riders with fistfuls of energy drinks. No one has been able to continually raise the bar, and maintain a high level of integrity, style, innovation and technical tricks like JP has. Even after a season unexpectedly cut short, JP managed to have a solid presence in videos and magazines, including his Future cover, surprisingly JP's first North American cover shot of his career.

Walker's snowboarding career is the result of immense talent, hard work and dedication -attributes he will continue to bring to the game in the future. His priority is the progression of snowboarding, but it's also about the way he and his sport are portrayed to the public. Driven by the same ideals StepChild and JP are the perfect combination.

"Obviously StepChild is focused on snowboard videos and progression, two things that I've always been an advocate of. They have an amazing team of handrail slayers, and i'm stoked to be a part of it, been riding their boards on the down low this past week and i'm stoked. It's simply the best fit. One." - JP Walker.

Simon Chamberlain adds, "Growing up watching snowboard videos, JP Walker has always been my favourite snowboarder of all time. It truly is amazing to see him riding for Stepchild. Its like a dream come true, not only for me but for the whole company."

JP will have a Pro Model with StepChild in three sizes: 147, 151, and 154. The boards will be sold with a regular edge as well as a RETT (Round Edge Taper Tuning) option. The board has a dull round edge between the feet for jibbing, and tapers out to a regular edge by the time it reaches the contact points. "The boards are tuned at the factory exactly how I would tune them at home." adds JP.

JP is currently filming with Mack Dawg Productions for Double Decade, which will be released in August 2008. His current sponsor list includes: StepChild Snowboards, 32 and Etnies, Oakley, Nixon, Bear Mountain, Milosport and Molcasalsa. StepChild's International Pro Team now consists of JP Walker, Simon Chamberlain, Markku Koski, Stian Solberg and Fredu Sirvio. The International Am Team consists of Joe Sexton, Risto Ruokola, and Scotty Vine. Other notable supporters include Chris Wimbles, Brian McClatchy and E-Man amongst others.

About StepChild: StepChild is a snowboard company that specializes in camping stoves, fishing tackle, and tennis rackets. The StepChild team is currently training and testing sand boards in Egypt. Joe Sexton and Simon Chamberlain are currently pushing the envelope of progressive sandboarding in the Egyptian Parallel Slalom while Markku and Stian aren't having much luck in the Sandboard half pipe event. "The stupid camel just won't pull us to the top! He's going to need an energy drink sponsor" adds Markku.

CHILD SUPPORT" filming update May 22nd 2007

Last week we spent in the bush at camp Child Support. We filmed in the bush all week and people started to go a bit nuts but we got some good stuff of Risto, Sexton, Cartwright and Fredu.

Fredu and Risto then headed back to Finland for a well deserved fishing break. Simon and his brothers went back to Ontario to help dad put a new roof on the house and do some fishing too. Andre caught a fish that looks just like him. Poor Andre always catches the smallest fish.

Sollars and Wimbles are still going for it and Sexton has been getting into shooting photos as well. Sexton recently saw Shrek and turned himself into Shrexton.

Here is the wedge that took a few days to build and Simon is flexing beside it. Half of us are editing and the other half of us are still filming.

Ilari has been tanning and is looking for the woman of his dreams.. and California entrepreneur Chris Edmands is starting his own snowboard sock company called Wack Socks Inc. You can find prototypes of Wack Socks outside of Edmands’ truck every morning.

"CHILD SUPPORT" Filming Update April 22nd, 2007

Here we are almost at the end of the season and still a lot more filming to do. Got some great days in the Whistler backcountry last week with Sollors, Simon and Wimbles. Ilari is itching to get out there so he bought himself a brand spanking new sled. (see above)

We are now down in Lake Tahoe filming some park and waiting for the sun. Half of the crew flew down and the other half drove. Risto and Fredu just arrived here last week as well. Fredu drives like a Gramma and Ilari needs to stay off the wake up drinks.

Traveling is really starting to take its toll on some of our riders - especially after eating all that road food. Here is a shot of Joe and Simon getting phat.

What a stellar weekend I just had at whistler! Got to spend some time with some friends I havn't seen in quite some time just riding around the mountain. Saturday was a pretty bad day, didnt get to do much and had some of the worst park runs I can think of all season long. Saturday night I went and watched the Showcase Showdown finals which was great fun. Watching Justin Lameroux pull an amazing Cab 10 and Chris Wimbles pulling a huge 450 on to tailslide! Sunday was pretty amazing! 14cm of fresh powder over night. I spent the morning at the symphony chair hitting a small cornice drop and making some powder turns. By the afternoon I was hitting up the park pulling some simple 3's and 5's. By the end of the day I was getting kind of antsy to try something new so for my last run of the day I decided that I would try a 720. Sadly I didn't spin the full 720. It basically looked like an overspun 540. I spun about a 610-650 and then spun into the 720 on the gound. I will be up this weekend so Im going to go for it again then!

Peace!

Events/News - Whistler Blackcomb: SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN Wrap Up
By: WhistlerBlackcomb

The valley night pipe was built & lit up for the Showcase Showdown Feb 23 – 24. This was the second time Showcase Snowboard Shop put on the Pipe Style event. The valley super pipe was built to be part pipe & part slopestyle.

The top of the pipe featured hips into pipe walls followed by C boxes & into the final 3 pack of rails @ the finish. The rails included the down flat down rail, box to down box & the double barrel rail.  All rails were supplied from the Parks.  Riders were boosting huge on the hips & pipe walls & pulled off their best tricks on the C boxes & finish rails. It appeared that the course flowed better than last season with the C boxes helping to maintain momentum into the finish rail set ups.

The last hits on the finish rails were real crowd pleasers although the pipe roll out decks were packed with spectators top to bottom. With $25,000 in prize money to be won, the top riders were present & upping the ante each run.

Chris Wimbles stepped up & claimed 1st place & $10,000! 2nd went to Jacob Koia & third to Clint Allen. On the ladies side, Pilar Petersen won 1st, Sarah Conrad took 2nd & 3rd place was awarded to Stephanie Just.

Congrats to Showcase for another successful event & props to the Events staff, Park Groomers & Park staff ensuring the event ran successfully from prep time to tear down!

Also stepping up from Bakoda are Travis Williams, Molly Milligan, Nick Larson and Shayne Pospisil.
The Showcase Showdown, now in its 10th season, takes place at Whistler Blackcomb’s Night Pipe February 23-24, and guarantees to be this years most innovative, entertaining and unique rider driven snowboard event of the season!

Sapient is proud to sign on as the headline sponsor this year, throwing down $25,000 CDN cash prizing. Bakoda, Anon, RED, Vans, Volcom, Dakine and Nixon top off the list of sponsors contributing $20,000 in prizing as well. There are 90 spots open to pros of all ages for the weekend event.

Building on the phenomenal success of last year’s Pipestyle event, this years Showdown promises to be even more entertaining and diverse. Promotions coordinator Zoltan Katchanoski says he was so happy with the success of last years contest that the focus was all about feedback from the riders to perfect the event for this year “the most important part of the Showdown is to listen and make friendly changes to suit riders of all disciplines”. The Showdown has always been a great grass roots event “made by riders, for riders” it is guaranteed to be even better this year so be sure to check it out.

The Showcase Showdown is an annual event put on by whistler backcomb and showcase snowboard shop.  Its always been an inovative event and does not stick within the confines of traditional snowboard contests.  This year they steped it up to an adapted version of blackcombs night pipe.

I'm sure by now you have heard all about it, and have seen the results, so I won't muck about telling you how well dustin craven, chris wimbles and neil connoly rode.  Rather I would like to focus on exciting it was for us spectators drinking beers at the bottom.

On the mic were Spy marketing manager Darryl Trinidad and Ripzone team manager Pete Anderson.  Not only did they insult or embarass nearly every competitor, they also managed to question me about my elidgability in front of the few thousand people that lined the pipe. I also heard them mutter a few jokes, "How long was lionel richie on the toiilet?? All night long!" Some obviously were better than others. Now don't get me wrong, I thought they were the best anouncers money could buy.

I put back an eight pack of pilsner in record time; this of course made the VIP area seem like a bar to me.  And I wasn't the only one who thought so, the scalfording was packed with industry peeps and competitors all getting their drink on.

After the contest had come to a close, I was lucky enough to find myself a personal chauffeur off the mountain. This of course was judge Colin Duncan, who piggy backed me, while snowboarding.  Snowfall obstucted my vision and made it kind of like riding a rollercoaster blind. I clung on for dear life.

The Maxx Fish hosted that chaos that would later occur.  It was packed, there was a band, and everyone was drunk.  Upon entry we were given drink tickets; I found it nesscary to leave out the back door, dressed slightly differently each time, and enter back in the front door.  This allowed to have an adundance of free drinks, most of which I probabley didn't need.

Anyways... It was fun, we made party, and I can't wait til next year.  Hopefully then I will actually be able to compete.
