Apparently there's this site that lets you go to Mt Tremblant Canada for free if you get enough people to sign up under your name. I hear it's pretty much just a huge party with hundreds of college students from all over the country. They have a completely separate trip for high school students too. Has anyone heard of it? www.skitravel.com ?? I haven't been before but it sounds to good to pass up.

let me know what you guys think

(Saint-Sauveur, April 5, 2008) – Mont-Tremblant native Charles Reid has won the 2008 Empire

Shakedown grand finale, presented this Saturday at Mont Saint-Sauveur.  In addition to honours, the 17

year old snowboarder also won himself $15 000 in prize money.

Empire Shakedown is one of the premium snowboarding events in the world - classed in the top five by

the snowboarding industry.  This year’s competition also had two other Quebecois boarders climb onto the

podium, namely Sébastien Toutant, a 15 year old boarder from Lanaudière, and Sherbrook’s Antonin

Chamberland.  Chamberland was in fact one of only two amateur snowboarders to take part in the finals,

the other being Saint-Sauveur’s Matt Kulisek.

In total, 35 professional and 3 amateur snowboarders participated in the event; the finals saw the 15 best

athletes retained for a showdown.

‘I’m very excited to have won, it was a fantastic day, and the conditions were ideal for snowboarding – we

could have even competed in fleece and t-shirts!  I think the moves I really succeeded with, the front side

1080 and the back side 270 were what won me the competition.  I don’t really know what to do with the

$15 000 prize money, but for the moment, its going to the bank.  One thing is certain; I will be ready for

Shakedown 2009.’  explained an elated Reid.

Empire Shakedown is a unique competition among competitions, requiring that athletes master two

different snowboarding disciplines (the AMP booter jump, followed by the rail) in a jam format (unique to

the Shakedown).

Additionally, during the VANS Skateboarding half-time show and competition, Thomas Parent won top

honours and a money prize of $2 000.

An estimated 20 000 people have been present for the competition which has taken place over the past

two days.  ‘The level of competition is very high and the boarders have been extremely creative; some

jumps we’ve never even seen before.   The ambiance was incredible, especially today with the beautiful

weather we’re experiencing’ commented Brendan O’Dowd, President of DIZZLE Productions Inc, and one

of the Empire Shakedown’s organizers.

Top 3 Runs:

1st Charles Reid

- Jump: Front side 1080

- Double Kink rail: back side 270 lip on the kink rail

2nd Sebastien Toutant:

-Jump: Backside 1080 double cork

-Double Kink rail: gap to back lip

3rd Antonin Chamberland

- Jump: Front side 900

- Down rail: Front side 270

so  here it is, march 28, and in southern ontario it's still snowing. apparently this is unusual?!

for my first season here, it went pretty well, all things considered. of course i miss being out west on the real hills, but at least i'm not somewhere where i can't ride at all. we had some pretty wild storms this year, which helped appease me. the season managed to start at the end of november, which i have no real complaints with. and it's still going now, so hopefully i can get another day or two in before heading to whistler! it's also snowing today so i guess that's alright.

SSL21782.jpg picture by tombuk

i've sampled a bit of what ontario has to offer by way of ski bumps, and managed to find something to keep me occupied at all of them, with the exception of chicopee. sorry to any who call that home, but ouch. i didn't make it to glen eden, mslm, or tremblant. leaves me something to do next year! this year i did get a hot new onesie, which is fanfreakintastic.

SSL22006.jpg picture by tombuk

so here's where i went this year.... complete with pictures now since apparently i should always include pictures! in no particular order..

SSL21677.jpg picture by tombuk
made full use of my 5x7 pass. it was nice to stand at the top and see water, reminded me of riding mt washington at home in that sense. i pretty much lucked out on the days i went, had one icy day the entire year, and that's not so bad. taught a couple friends to ride here, and it was still fun. broke my helmet overshooting a landing. glades weren't too bad, they had snow again the other day so i was happy. figured since i'm in ontario i should check out the park, but definitely wasn't ready for the big air/big rails of the real park, so it was nice to have a couple beginner options. not that i used them much, i was too busy hip checking trees!
SSL21759.jpg picture by tombuk

SSL21491.jpg picture by tombuk
for the first day of the season it wasn't all bad. pretty tiny, they only had one lift open and a couple runs, but it was enough to say "winter's finally here!". it was great to get a feel for my new setup, it felt fantastic from the moment i strapped in.

SSL22091.jpg picture by tombuk
having a free place to stay in huntsville made this more exciting. easy to get bored here though, not a lot of challenge on the main runs. had a decent park for beginners though, so i got to pretend like i was a real ontario rider and hop on and off rails.
SSL22103.jpg picture by tombuk

we went for $10 tuesday, thinking damn, can't beat that deal! and so it was insanely crowded (it was also march break). their idea of a black diamond is about half a second of steep incline followed by flat. the park was poorly designed and there was no park etiquette to speak of. in fact, no mountain etiquette at all.

if only it were a more impressive list... but i guess we make do with what we have! and being in dundas is actually pretty good, since we're right on the escarpment. when there was snow in town, it made it easy to find at least little hills to ride on.

the dundas valley conservation area was my favourite though.
mike1.jpg picture by tombuk
after the disappointment of chicopee mike and i went to the conservation area, built our own mini booter not 5 minutes from our door, and spent the rest of the day practising hitting that. i finally figured out how to pop and grab, and it turned into one of the best days all season for me.
kendra1.jpg picture by tombuk

sure ontario doesn't hold a candle to out west, but i figure, for ontario, this season wasn't half bad. i can't wait to ride some real glades in whistler, hike a couple bowls, and ride some runs that last for more than thirty seconds.

hoo-ray for telus!

‘You Look Good’ at Sun Peaks Resort

Canada’s Premier Slopestyle Series – March 15th

March 11, 2008 – Sun Peaks, BC – Snowboarders are taking over the Sundance Terrain Park at Sun Peaks Resort on Saturday, March 15th for the You Look Good Rider’s Cup. The event at Sun Peaks wraps up the 2008 tour of Canada’s premier snowboard slopestyle series that has already stopped in Martock (Nova Scotia) Mont Tremblant (Quebec), Banff Norquay (Alberta) and Blue Mountain (Ontario). Sun Peaks is hosting the only event in British Columbia on a tour that hands out $25,000 in cash and $75,000 in prizing throughout Canada.

This is truly an ‘anything goes’ competition. There are no compulsory tricks and judges will be basing their decision on four aspects: trick execution and difficulty, progression, variety and risk. In addition, the judges do not have the benefit of knowing what the rider will perform.

Competitors will be divided into categories: Groms (12 and under), Renegades (13 to 15), Salomon Amateurs (16 and over) and Coors Light Pro Open (cash prizing).

Coors Light is one of the major sponsors of the You Look Good Rider’s Cup. Other sponsors include Much Music, Salomon, Ripzone International, Yamaha and Snowboard Canada Magazine.

Registration for the Sun Peaks event will take place on Friday, March 14th from 4 to 5pm in the breezeway of the Village Day Lodge and again Saturday morning from 7:30am to 9:30am. Your $45.00 registration fee includes a loot bag, annual subscription to SBC and a $5 bib deposit. Either cash or cheque will be accepted (payable to eventSing promotions).

The women’s and men’s qualifying rounds begin just after 10am and the finals will start at 1:45pm. Awards will be handed out at 4pm.

If you aren’t competing, this is a fantastic spectator event, so don’t miss out! For the best viewing, take the Sundance Express Chairlift to the top and ski down the Sundance run over to Sun Catcher and down to the park.

About Sun Peaks
Sun Peaks Resort is a four season destination resort located in the interior of British Columbia near Kamloops. In winter, Sun Peaks is British Columbia’s second largest ski area with three mountains surrounding an intimate ski-in, ski-out village.  In other seasons, Sun Peaks offers a diverse range of leisure activities including 18 holes of golf as well as numerous events and festivals. Sun Peaks Resort was the first ski resort in North America and is the only resort in Canada to receive the ISO 14001 designation recognizing the resorts environmental policies and practices.  Sun Peaks can be accessed by two airport gateways - Kamloops (45 minutes) and Kelowna (2 1/2 hours) and by car, only three traffic lights and a 4 ¼ hour drive separate Sun Peaks and Vancouver, B.C.

it snowed in ottawa this week, a good couple cm and we set up the back yard jib, and it all worked out sick, was a lot of fun, tremblant opened and i hope to get there this weekend since they have a 20 foot jump and other boxes set up, so it would be nice to go and ride a hill

so as most of you have noticed... the site was/is having some difficulties.  whether its log-in boxes popping up all the time, the site being 'down for maintenance' or just odd little glitches popping up, it has definitely been annoying.

no matter what happens from now on, i'll be ok with it.  this site has provided me a place to go and just get away from everyday problems and boredom and to meet many cool people at the same time.  many of you i have actually met... some i have yet had the chance.  hopefully, if something does happen to the site that is more long term, i won't lose contact with all those people on here that i consider my friends.

over three years i have been a member of this site and an active member of its forums.  from my start, i was told i "wouldn't last long" and basically told i wasn't one of the 'cool' Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucketones on there... fine... i wasn't too worried.  after all... its just the internet.  but then i started posting more, getting to know peoples' on-line personalities and they started to get to know mine.  i know that on-line, i am really no different than i am in real life, so in the back of my mind, i thought maybe some of these people that i got along with so well on here would be people i could befriend if i was given the chance to meet them.  that first chance came in montreal over two years ago... i was able to convince a couple of my "real" friends to join me and we went on a road trip and met up with dammitj, jc_the _mad_hatter, mr.king, glorytory, seb (forget his old handle on here) and a couple randoms.  we all got along great and it made me realize i would be happy to call some of these "on-line" friends, my "real" friends.

from then on, i became a very active member in the forums becoming the forum clown i guess... constantly joking and never really taking it seriously. (as i had said.. much like iPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket am in real life).  i got another chance to meet a bunch of members on a trip to tremblant in april 2005.  there, i was able to meet and befriend more members who would become my sb.com ' family' as well as some great friends whom i hope i am able to stay in contact with for years to come.  meeting the infamous joe made that trip one to remember.  it made me realize that even though the person you talk to on the internet isn't there in front of you, or even within 4000kms, with world travel the way it is, you can still befriend them and know that it is nowhere near impossible to get together every once in a while.

for the next year or so, i went on multiple little meets with the east coasters from both canada and the US... cazza, zee_in_the_snow, dammitj, jc, o-henry, revived_suicide, funks_hybrid, rawstylus909, chrisjur, shreddinchef, soccerdiva, casualty,Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket theoak, cdnmade and i'm sure more that i am forgetting. (later on, addictiveescape and jr. barns were to be added to our east family as well as a few that i have still yet to meet such as atomicsnowqueen, sixteen12 and others).  also, i was able to visit more members accross the country when i was travelling to alberta with a friend.  though most of those i have minimal contact with now, there are a couple that i talk to often and hope to see again soon such as kyleweevers...

this brings us to THE big meet... sure, i had been to meets before with almost 20 people... but this one was something special.  members from the east coast of canada, the Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucketstates, the west of both countries, england, switzerand and more were all coming to whistler bc for the telus ski and snowboard festival.  i was lucky enough to share a condo  for different amounts of time) with moselle, robvalentine, board_stupid, rawstylus, cazza, dammitj, kendrat and our numorous visitors.  it was during this trip, getting to ride and party with all these great people that i realized how great that some of these people were... sure, they were all great, but some.. i was starting to feel like i had a connection.  something more than just an internet friendship... in fact, more than just any type of friendship.  after that trip, i kept in constant contact with most, but one member in particular... kendrat.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
after chatting on sb.com, msn, and the phone for a couple months... both of us realized that there was something worth investigating between us.  we started to date long distance and visit each other in our respective provinces... after a while of this, we both realized we couldn't handle the distance.  after much discussion and to the dismay of my family and "real" friends in ontario, i made the decision to move accross the country and give our relationship a try.  we have now been living together for 8 months and things are great... we are planning another move soon and can't imagine being apart...

whatever happens to this site, it has provided me with more than just something to pass my long hours at work, or to keep me busy during long restless nights... it has improved my riding, it has allowed me to travel accross canada to meet over 75 new friends, it has given me people to party with, people to really talk to, insight on things from all over the world, fellow riders to share a lift with and allowed me to meet the woman that i love.

i'd say thats a lot to stem from one website community.  no matter what happens, thank you all for being here and i hope to catch up with you in the future!  if you read this whole thing... kudos!  hopefully it helped you remember any good things that you have gained from this site.  cheers!

My Blog: oh canada
By: Spoz

so I'm in canada right now, mont tremblant to be precise, and the park is amazing. besides the park costs like 10 bucks (canadian) there is a super pipe, and oh my god. you'd have to be suicidal to try to conquer that thing, even though i watch people do it all day.

well im sitting here studying for my midterms and i have one week left, well techinically 5 days 20 hours and 40 minutes until i am home from school for my reading week where i will get the lovely opportunity to ride with my crew and actually snowboard with people instead of alone and my ipod.  i have been enjoying school and going to tremblant at least once every weekend and if im lucky i get to ride a little local hill during the week at night.

all i have to say is that im really excitied to be home and go do some handrailing and get some filming done which will make me quite happy and enjoy the pleasure of my friends.  the only down fall is that im only there for a week and i have 3 midterms this week which is stopping me from goin home earlier. boys i cant wait to ride and party

so far this year i only had the pleasure of riding in one contest which held 75 riders in my category and i took first place in the rail jam.  downfall with that is that i won a tremblant membership but i had already purchased one and used it months before and cannot claim it for next year and having a hard time selling it for a cheap price. im selling it for 100 bucks which i find really lame because ya, its worth 1000 for people my age but it is late in the season but i thought 250 was a good deal.  won a bunch of other stuff and happy with really winning and that it was a good time and fun by all.

in the past 2 weeks we went to a hill edelweiss and so far ive gone there, the people i have been riding with have got hurt and went to the hospital with major / medium injuries.  2 people out of 2 times, i guess im just getting lucky.  after the powder party we had there i got drunk and then there was a naked race for a day pass at tremblant, but i went in it to win it for a friend so i dont have to ride alone, we are students and poor and that is what is holding them back from going really.

this all kind of random information and just keeping everyone posted on my life and how it is going but ya, im bored and trying to avoid studying but will begin shortly so ya, whateever, cant avoid it forever.  i did lose my cell phone at tremblant because i was so drunk and falling over and must of fell out of my pocket, but who cares, i bought a new 1 off ebay so 150 so im happy i got a deal at least. im really pissed up at cell phone companies b/c im on a plan and it should only be 1 year for me to upgrade my phone instead of freakin 2, thats stupid, shi*t happens within a year and they should offer some kind of insurance or w.e. if you lose your dam phone or lower the dam prices, like GOD!

but ya, im kind of tired of typing, but leave a msg and ill post another blog later to get people to knwo how my wonderful week at home went.

Good morning all!

Things here at tremblant are starting to look up a little- the old forecase high for training day has improved from -18 to -14 which is making me feel a little happier...

I'm gonna put the new Palmer Crown on the snow here this morning, and the Dreamraider in the afternoon and see how we go.  The team all spent some time cuddling with the Palmer which was adorable- he's bigger than some of the kids

More later!

Good times had by all at Big White this weekend!!!  Finished 7th on day two after some tough heats and a silly DNF on day one when I opted to spend some quality time with the b-netting...

Any-whoo, supr tired because the drive home took 11 hours (for real) due to road closure (avi).  At least I had a chance to nap in the closure line up and snooze off some of my hangover- I blame the draft Pilsner that I drank with Ryan at Sam's- gross!!   Many thanks anyway for the warm hospitality of the BC crew and especially Cale for driving me home safely- I doubt I could have made it back on my own- you rock!

We're off next to Tremblant for the first NorAm- I'm feeling good and should have at least one new board with me for the trip which I am stoked about!!

Ciao for now

So its finally snowed outside!
I'm soo excited this past saturday was my first official Snowboard of the season!! I say official cuz I went snowboarding on the very small hill near my house haha, it sucked cuz there was like no snow and i kept running over twigs and falling.
I was really scared that since I kept falling it meant I had forgotten everything I learned last year (like my amazing "S" turns :P) but it turns out I didn't! yay!!
So yeah I went to Tremblant which is my 2nd favorite hill and I had soo much fun! I did fall but not as much as last year, I'm going to orford next saturday and I cannot wait!!
My goal for the end of this season (which for me is in march) is to be good enough to snowboard the easy runs on the swiss alps, because i'm going to be in Switzerland in April and I would Loooooove to do that!
<3
p.s. feel free to drop by and let me know how your first run of the season went :)
