My Blog: WSSC- Who We Are
By: WSSC

Who we are:

With our world class private terrain park, professional coaches, hotel accommodation, meals, and activities, Whistler Summer Snowboard Camp is the place to be this summer!

what's included:

• Interactive coaching environment. Our coaches are not only professionals, but genuinely love kids and love coaching. Our coaching groups provide a better opportunity for campers to progress, as your coach will get to know you during the week and anticipate your needs and goals.

• Value. Everything is included in the camp price. ALL scheduled activities (extra charge for some optional activities) , ALL meals including dinner, a free camp T-Shirt and a camp video.

• Private pipe, race lanes, and park. Our on-hill facility is world class with private pipe, race lane, groomed area, terrain park, and lots of other terrain. Because we limit the amount of campers that we can accept each session, our park is never crowded. This means less time standing around waiting your turn, which is the case at the busier camps, and more time for you to focus on your goals!

• Supervision. We don't hold back the older campers or forget about the younger ones. All campers under 19 are supervised 24 hrs by our live-in hotel staff.

• Luxury-suites, not crowded dorms or small hotel rooms. The suites are equipped with a full-kitchen, living area, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a big balcony to enjoy the beautiful mountain views! There is also a heated pool, huge jacuzzi, basketball court and volleyball net. The resort is located just minutes from the base of the hill, too, so there is no traveling to get to the lifts - they're just a short walk from breakfast!

• All meals are included in the price of the camp. Some other camps don't provide you with dinner. This can add-up to $100's of additional dollars to the price of your camp.

• No hiking. Our lifts run all day.

• Walk to the lifts. Some of the other camps have a 30 minute bus ride just to get to the hill but at our camp you can walk there in 5 min after you eat breakfast at a nice restaurant.

Good times in the backcountry. Some of the crew took their Level 1 Avalanche course, so we set out for a backcountry trip to build a road gap, ride some pillow fields and spend the night in a cool cabin. No roads for hours, no tracks but our own and we were surrounded by huge mountain peaks. After building a nice road gap jump, we hit it until well after sundown. Then we rode back to the front door of the cabin and chilled for the night. Good food, good music and great company. We woke up to about 15cms of fresh snow overnight. After a pretty funny cook up on the stove, we headed out to ride a powder pillow field for the day. Good times, a great crew, amazing powder and funny stories. www.corecamps.com

I just went last week to colorado and it was amazing.  I was staying in Breckenridge.  Unfortunately, they didn't really get any snow while I was there.  It  was a bit icy.

But while I was there, Vail got 10 inches to a foot.  It was amazing when I went to Vail the day they got snow.  There were spots when I got stuck in snow up to my thighs.  The back bowls were actually nice, which usually isn't possible during the spring.

I'm glad I don't have spring break this week.  All the Colorado schools are off this week and I bet the mountain is busy... Or not because it is suppose to ran all week.  Anywho, I wish I got to go snowboarding one more time this season.

Pushing for Perfection

Hey Jibbers and Jumpers,
The past couple of weeks in The Parks have been really exciting times for everyone. We've seen lots of sun and snow. Our Parks are now pretty much built to capacity, giving our teams the opportunity to really pimp out our features. We've been switching rails and jumps in and out to keep things fresh. Both mountains are changing daily. The Showcase Showdown this year was a huge success. Big shout out to Brad Broughton from the shop, and his team of volunteers for their help with design and building. The Atomic Supercross is this weekend; results to come.

On Blackcomb
- The Snowcross track has a new line this year that everyone should check it out. The course is open daily.
- The Highest Level, and Choker lines are riding perfectly every day, the lines are dialed right in nicely. The Highest Level is rounded out at the bottom by a massive re-entry platform with an Up-Rail to Wallride. The Choker line finishes with an awesome Quarter Pipe that is Zaugged daily.

On Whistler
- The Bobcat line (right side of the park) has been filled out with an A-frame rail combo, a couple more jumps, and tweaks to the other jibs.
- The Chipmunk line is fully built out as well, with a couple new jumps, and changes to the jib lines Park Events
- The next King of the Rail comp is going to be March 21st. This is event is the last KOR of the season, and may even be moved to the base of Whistler (next to the GLC) this time. So make sure you register
- The following day (March 22nd), will be the Park Rider Series Slopestyle, on Whistler Mountain. The course will be on Whistler's Bobcat line (right side of park). All levels of riders and skiers are welcome so come on up, and ride in this fun event

See you all up here!
- James Sayers

The first JumpCamp session was awesome! The conditions were wicked with all the new snow we've gotten on the Island in the last month. The season's have switched here this year; we had spring in the winter and now we're having winter in the spring. Man, it's total global weirding.... We had a gorgeous day on Saturday and all the campers loved the new park design. Sunday was a little soggy but that didn't slow anyone down and everyone really progressed their shred skills over the weekend. Thanks to all the coaches for their hard work and all of our killer sponsors for all the prizes!

Finally Lake Tahoe is getting some well deserved snow and so today I took full advantage of our proximity to all the Lake Tahoe area ski resorts. On fun pow days usually I go through a list of resorts to hit starting with those of best pitch and possible snow collection... right, I just go to Squaw just like everyone else and get some high speed chair runs. It was nice to see a line of traffic heading towards but I was super surprised that I was able to once again walk right up and onto the Funitel. That trend kept up for the rest of the day and I was able to hot lap Siberia, granite chief and Headwall repeatedly . Today was great but this weekend into next week things should keep getting better so if you missed today... YOU HAD BETTER MAKE IT FOR NEXT WEEK!!! a title="Burton Snowboards" href="http://www.porterstahoe.com/">PortersTahoe.com

I work in a chain store. shi*tty deal for me. Good deals on ok stuff and thats sweet for you. We get people who can't afford nice gear(quality) out on the hill for cheap. f*ckin eh. But those of you who can't afford the good stuff, and don't choose to slave for it, I beg you; Stop ARGUING with me. When you come into my store, if you know anything... like the slightest, tiniest tid bit of info, thats fine. I don't ride half the boards i sell, i've rode some. i will tell you that a $300 board isn't gonna handle the best at 60mph but you can still have fun on it, this is the best we got, this is the cheapest etc...
DON't go to the core shops oggle and drool, and then come to me and ARGUE specs, what a board is good for, or how it rides, how f*cking dope burton's new shi*t is and why pow is better than park(!?) boooo f*ckin Hoooooooooooo we don't carry top end. We carry whats called price point. cheap enough for Mom and Dad with a lil somethin extra for me and the kid to talk'em into at the end. Weeeeeeeeoooooooow upsaling is fun. Don't make my life hard just to justify buying something at a chain store. you know it, i know it. There is better stuff out there. I don't got it because it costs more. In the end just buy it or dont get it or get out... see ya on the hill...

ps. Don't come to me and trash a board or boards and then let me catch you in park hitting the easy side of everything and then out of bounds feathering out turns and my landings away!
thx.

Smokin Snowboards
Smokin snowboards
Smokin Snowboards
So the Smokin Snowboard factory tour last week had more to it than just the tour, we also went down to pick up some 2010 newly pressed decks. I was lucky enough to nab the new M.I.P. D.I.R.T. Rocker with Magne-Traction with some custom graphics brought to you by JP Lagos at Thesnowlife.com. I was even more excited to try out Smokin’s Magne-Traction since out snow has been rock hard as of late and last time I rode a board with magne it made the saying “Turns ice into powder” hold true. Friday afternoon of last week Squaw was still pretty firm with a nice east wind keeping things rather chilly, so what better time to go try out Smokin Jay “the evil genius’s“new concept.

My first thoughts was the same as any of the other reverse camber boards I have ridden, the nose seems to hook a little quick when you really get the board on edge. Once I detuned the nose and tail a little the board simply took off. The M.I.P. has a great predictable flex that reminds me of many of the old boards from the good old days. Jay doesn’t use fancy barely known named stuff to create his sticks yet he produces a board that rivals all those high-end uber scientific factories. The M.I.P. holds a super fun edge, makes a snappy turn and rebounds really predictably that you can stray away from the park and still rip turns. I have complained for a few years now that many companies are making boards to specific to one discipline and are hard to enjoy on every part of the hill. I think the smoking M.I.P. brings back the idea that you can have a great park board that doesn’t sacrifice the rest of the mountain.

If you are looking for a great park and all around board that’s actually handmade the new 2010 Smokin M.I.P. D.I.R.T. Rocker is gonna blow your mind.

What about the graphics? JP Lagos designed the graphic based loosely off the Obey “Obama” Poster series. Taking funny pictures and translating them into the Obey scheme, JP created a series of Bromodel snowboards. All the boards were either using Smokin’s 2010 M.I.P. blank or the 2010 Superpark blank. So the boards that were in the pictures being finished during the factory tour were none other than the bromodel boards. Special thanks to JP for including my funny grill on a snowboard and Smokin Jay for pressing a super fun board!

So I have been super stoked to get my new gear, and even more so to use it.  I managed to get about 1.5 hours on Christmas Eve day on the slopes, and about another 6 hours on 12/27.  Most of that was spent getting a feel for the board, but more especially spent dialing in my bindings (Catek's are friggen insane!).
I now have my stance pretty comfortable, but 3cm wider so the insides of my legs ache a bit; I may need to live with it and let my body adjust, as I like the binding positions for stability and control.  I also have both bindings forward, alpine-style, which makes things much different: I was at 27° front -5° back, now I am at 43° front and 18° back.  The rise, cant, and tilt of the footpad has also helped, but I am still tweaking it....it certainly makes the 3cm wider stance a bit easier to sit in :)

So, now that I have some time in and my setup at least comfortable although nto perfect, what do I think?  Amazing.  I compare it this way: my old Yukon was like driving my 99 Camry and the Tanker is like driving my old 76 Torino Elite.  The Yukon was smoother, faster, and more stable already.....but the Tanker with Catek's just kills it.  The ride is super stable and smooth, and it carves like a knife through hot butter.  Dusty noticed that the longer nose chatters, and I did after he pointed it out, but I don't feel it in the ride.....it's like it is simply dampening all the vibration.  Carving is super nice...I fet like I was skidding out, but inspecing my lines as I rode up the chair I could not see any skidding; the board is also a bit narrower in all areas, so it transitions from edge to edge very quickly.  The softer board flex makes for easy riding despite the additioanl 32cm in length, but I still have to muscle it a bit after strapping in.  Once pointed down, the Tanker accelerates quicker than any board I have ridden....I am still gettng used to it.  I did notice some boot-out on both heel and toe carves despite the raised bindings and alpine angles, but with a narrower board and sice 11.5 boots I had to expect it a bit.  Speaking of boots, the new Contra's are friggen sweet, but certainly get overshadowed by the board and bindings.  Very comfortable, stiff, and supportive....everything I wanted :)

Heading out the next 2 nights after work and on 12/31 and 1/1.  Hoping to have it dialed in and ready to rock.  I will type a full review of the setup then and post it:)

Rode at Norway on Friday. Once again is was just nice to be out riding. There was only 2 trails open, 3 if you count the mini t park. They didn't have the kickers set up on the mini t. That kinda sucked. So we made our own kicker on the Vali run. It was fun till ski patrol knocked it over. We got a 3 hour session out of it, so it wasn't that bad. Time trials were taking place on the other run so we only hit that once.
My kids are doing pretty damn good for it being early in the season. Nate is spinning front and back 3's. Collin has the back 3 down. I'm just getting grabs, o well.

Perry & Louise... Videos videos videos!!!

So Perry calls us up last minute late Wednesday afternoon because Ben's out of town and he wants someone from the office to head over to Boardroom around six that night to do the IS Eyewear PK for him. Steve's out of town, I have plans so Jr.Burger agrees to help out. I help JB "short for Jr.Burger" get stuff ready then leave the office for the day. The next morning I ask JB how it went. So he gives me the run down then starts telling me about Perry's cute little introduction where he kisses JB's ass for saving his day and shi*t talks me & Steve. "JB's a super hard worker... Blah blah blah... I love him so much... Blah blah blah... he's the only person in the who office that actually works... Blah blah blah... Once Scientists figure it out I want to have his Child... Blah blah blah... I can't believe Karl gets paid a salary to do a blog and I don't even know what Steve does over there?" Real nice Perry. Didn't you just get back from a 3 week holiday where you and your buddy Thelma and Louised it across Canada... You poor thing, Couves must really be working you to the bone.. Haha

The IS Video Player is slowly filling up with content. Its pretty cool, you can download video directly to desktops or to mobile devices. I've set up a bunch of channels with more to come. So far we have PartySnake, Airhole, Kale, Dev, Duff, Daves Updates, Lil Bastards, 15Peddler and Archive channels where we'll be constantly uploading footage. We'll be setting up a SponsorMeChannel shortly where we'll be posting all the sponsor me videos we receive for the world to see and our team to watch and decide who makes the cut. To get your sponsor me video on the SponsorMeVideo channel send it to info@iseyewear.com in a quicktime format.

My Journal: October Sessions
By: perrik

Well, unfortunately the website is still having some of it's hiccups and I can't upload pics to my galleries. Let's see if I can paste them in my post.

Session #1: Arapahoe Basin (10/18/08) The first session of the season! And now in Colorado! Awesome! Regularly I'll be doing this the first weekend of November in the Midwest and driving 2 and a half hours to Ski Brule for just one run of 20 sec. Here it was a nice 75 min drive and the run at A-Basin, was like 3 times the one at Marquette. I mean it was just one run but it will take me 4 to 6 minutes to get down! I was there for first chair and the first 3 runs I got in the singles lines without waiting at all. There probably was around 1,000 people in the first 3 hours but that number easily increased to 3,000 by 11:30. The second wave brought too many beginners falling in the middle of the run, the snow was tracked and with icy spots and the wait on the lift line was about 10 to 15 min... So I took my 8 runs and went home a happy rider after a good first session.

The season kicked off this past weekend with the freestyle.ch in-city event in Zurich, Switzerland. For the snowboarding part of the action sports show, the biggest names in the game gathered on the lakeside of "Downtown Zurich“, including Burton shreds Mikkel Bang, Chris Sörman, Marko Grilc, Peetu Piiroinen, Wang Lei and last year's winner Stephan Maurer.

The Burton Euro Squad was busy all weekend throwing it down on the 37 meter tall ramp, the signing session marathons and the late night parties. And everybody scored at some point!

We will stick to talking about the official competition on snow here: Peetu Piiroinen opened his season like he ended the past one – on the podium! He only got beaten by Stephan Gimpl and Hampus Mosseson, and landed himself in the third spot with high scores for his Backside Rodeo 7 Tailgrab and Cab 1080.

Great atmosphere also at the LAAX booth on Saturday during the Burton Euro Team Signing Session – all dressed up nicely in the “10 years BEO” Birthday shirts. On duty for the Signing Session were Mikkel Bang, Marko Grilc, Chris Sörman, Stephan Maurer, Sina Candrian and Peetu Piiroinen.
