I forgot how hard Mr. T ran shi*t in the 80's.

I bet if you would of sat 50 Cent down as a kid and asked who he wanted to be when he grew up he'd have told you he wanted to be Mr. T. Good on ya fitty, you're just a tv show and cereal sponsor away from making your dream come true.

REP OF THE MONTH: its been awhile since we featured a rep of the month. Ben Couves "sandwiched between a young Rod Stewart and Mr. MC Hammer piano pants" secured the coveted award yesterday when he sent over this amazing photo

with this explanation to my what the hell is going on in this photo. "Hahaha it was in grade 11, I won that guitar on the radio for a short story I wrote high on mushrooms about being high on mushrooms.hahahha amazing." -Ben

Hey we're having a MONSTER SALE October 16th and 17th.

Don't miss out, Dave's BBQing big time!

Welcome to 1984, where money was for nothing and chicks were free.

Sorry if you're (G) because they say the (F) word in the video. In their defense, they're calling themselves (F's) so I guess its not that bad but I'm not (G) so I wanted to make sure we didn't catch any heat like the time we posted Kale's Airhole commercial. We good?

What started out as a joke for a crew of jiggly old shred dogs has turned into an international sensation with annual desk jockey showdowns at Grouse Mountain in Vancouver and Bear Mountain in California. Now thanks to 686 and Malakye the Office Booyz franchise has created its very own office friendly outerwear. Well not really, there's only a hand full of these bad boys in existence but if you can correctly answer the malakye trivia of the month you can earn a spot in the randomizer which makes you eligible to win this limited edition Office Booyz Jacket sure to be the envy of office dwellers world wide.

Duff hasn't made an appearance on the blog for awhile. Lucky for us one of his high school buddies sent over some yearbook pics for us to enjoy.

Its so weird, he has the same look in every photo. Here's a link to find some yearbook photos of your buds.

Something you didn't know about Kale: Kale is absolutely fanatical about tubing.

Once the snow melts its eat, sleep, tube for Mr. Stephens. In fact I haven't even been able to get in touch with him for almost a month now. If you see Kale around please tell him to call us. Thanks, IS blog team.

Mt. Baker, WA – You thought it was over? Think again. With several feet of fresh these last few weeks, lifts running well into May, no crowds, full snowpack, and tons of daylight, frequency TSJ #6.3 drops just in time for those who ride beyond December. From Snowbird to A-Basin, to Whistler, to Tuckerman’s to Alpental: snowboarding continues in full force, and South America/New Zealand deep pow sessions are just around the corner.

With the stellar photography and strong writing that frequency TSJ readers have grown to expect, #6.3 features an amazing piece with freestyle legend Jeff Brushie by one of Snowboarder’s former editors Joel Muzzey, as well as photos from Bud Fawcett, Trevor Graves and others. From humble beginnings in New England to practically writing the book on modern halfpipe riding, Brushie reflects on his career, accomplishments and future. Senior Editor Colin Wiseman takes on the issue of snowboarding’s cost barriers and accessibility with a compelling case for municipal snowboard parks a la skateboard parks. With a lot of kids in snow-bound cities who can’t get afford $80 tickets, is it time we bring the hill to them? Mammoth native son and wunderkind Eric Jackson sits down with Senior Editor John Laing to talk about his rise through the ranks, escaping the contest circuit, and getting kicked off helicopters. China has, until now, largely been a presence in snowboarding mainly via manufacturing the gear and clothing we all utilize, contributor Lorenz Holden and Mr. Wiseman however, break down this emerging shred scene and take a look at a potential massive resort explosion. As if this all isn’t enough, premier photog Adam Clark takes us on an incredible tour of his photography throughout the years with his Gallerie section. Via gut-sucking descents by Jeremy Jones, Ash Christiansen, and amazing landscapes, Adam reminds us how truly incredible it all can be.

Snowboarding: It’s not just for Christmas anymore.

Vaughn Whynot's Blog: Camera Tips - Camera Handle
By: Mr.Whynot

"from the site HDskate.com articles Make Your Own Video Camera Handle"

Make Your Own Video Camera Handle

Alright so you want a better way to film lines and all around, make your filming smoother. The answer is a tripod mount handle. Your end result will look like this.

Camera with finished handle

Your best bet is to start working on a clean, level surface. Try not to use the best table in the house, unless no one is going to care. It’s probably better to work on something fairly high off the ground, seeing as I always work on the floor and cause myself uneeded back pain.

To get started, here’s everything you need and it can all be found at your local hardware store. Luckily I found everything in my basement.

  • One peice of metal, 1 inch wide, 1/8th to 1/4 inch thick and about 20 inches long. More for larger cameras. Less for smaller cameras. Around 20 is average.
  • One quarter inch bolt to screw the handle into the tripod mount hole.
  • One wingnut to screw upside down into the screw to secure it to a camera.
  • A washer or two .

Materials

Materials

The next step is to drill the hole in the piece of metal. To do this turn your camera upside down and grab a tape measure. Measure the distance from the tripod hole to the front of the camera. That’s how far away from the start of your handle your hole should be. Make a mark there with a marker then use a drill to bore a hole through it. A drill press would be much easier if you have accesss to one. On the handle I made here, the hole was already on the piece of metal so I decided to use that and it’s actually fine for the Panasonic GS series cameras.

After you have your hole drilled decide how far along the metal bar you want your bands to be. You should probably have something along the lines of 6 inches for the bottom, 6 inches for the vertical part, and 7 inches for the top, but like I said earlier, if you’re cameras bigger you might wanna make it bigger. You probably won’t have to make it more than 22 inches. Again, using a measure tape and a marker, make marks at the places you wann to bend at.

Measure And Mark

Measure And Mark

Now You want to find something you can use to bend the metal. A couple good choices are:

  • Some heavy weights, about 100 pounds or so. You can wedge the handle under the very bottom one and lift it up at the marked bend location.
  • Vise grip, lock it in so you can just bearly see your markings then pull/push to bend it.
  • A pole, like I did.

Bend The Handle

Bend The Handle

Once You have both the bends done that’s just about it. You might want to paint your handle or put some stickers on it to decorate it. One of the coolest things is to get the infrared remote your camera came with and tape it to the top so you can record without taking your hand off the handle.

Screw the handle on to your tripod mount and you’re done!

Ok, let's just get down to nitty gritty (or as gritty as I can get): I've been watching horrible movies lately. So, here's my reviews of  horrible movies that you should avoid at all cost, unless suicide is on your top list or you are just really bored. But if you're that bored to watch this mindless pap, you should consider if you really have anything to live for. I kid, I kid. A little.

I will say that just because these movies are horrible, this does not mean I didn't like some of them...just a note...

JUMPER

Jumper is not really a serious, feature film. It barely qualifies as a film. But I enjoyed it, for all it's flaws. It's the kind of movie you watch at 2 AM on TNT when you're up on a boring Friday in April. Bonus points for Samuel L. Jackson, who amazingly is not tired of playing The Angry Black Man in every movie, and for that wooden actor from Star Wars, for doing something different in every film (but yet always acting the same.)

Grade: C-

THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES

I'm not a fantasy. Yeah, I read Lord of the Rings, but I skipped many parts of the book (mostly boring elven songs). I do like the Hobbit. Best fantasy book ever written. But this movie? Nah.

Three things I can't stand in films: kids saving the world, divorce sub-plot, and the always tiresome situation that I call the "But I Swear!" cliche'. How does this work? You know in every movie where a kid sees something and nobody believes him, and he spends the whole movie trying to prove it but stuff keeps getting in the way? Some call that "delayed tension", I call this "annoying boredom."

Spiderwick has all three of these, plus ridiculous fantasy elements that are too scary for young children, and too goofy for everyone else. I should have watched Step Up 2 the Streets instead. At least there's dancing, and the fantasy is funner anyway.

My Grade: D

MR. MAGORIUM'S WONDER EMPORIUM

One word: dreadful.

Only watch it if you enjoy getting kicked in the head repeatedly and spit on by tobacco chewers.

My Grade: F

Kale call: I just called Kale (1:39pm) and he was actually out of bed. Its gonna be a productive day for Mr. Stephens!

There's a debate going on here at IS eyewear. Should we or should we not get involved in the new Belly Board craze sweeping the snow industry.

Considering the sport is targeting a more robust crowd which a couple of our employees fall into we're leaning towards yes. We still need to discuss with Dev so we'll keep you posted..

My Blog: Skillz
By: Drewbage

This last Saturday was unreal. Monarch had at least 10-12 inches of fresh. There are no bad lines when the snow is that good. I took a few hits and made a few runs that are reserved for user friendly snow days. the crew on board consisted of the Mr, Mrs, and LBP. It was nice to see everyone relax upon take off and before I knew it there was a party in the car after stopping in Hartsel. The smell of Vodka and RedBull filled the air as we approached the final climb up the pass. I'm walking in a spider web so leave and message and I'll call you back... It's all your fault I screen my phone calls. So word of a 7 day 4 resort road trip has surfaced. Wolf Creek, Purgatory, Crested Butte, and of course Monarch have been put on the table. Trip of a lifetime for anyone really. I like to think I will train for this B-Day Blowout because it sure would make things easier to be fit. Mid season training I AM getting a bit conservative in my old age.

My Blog: Tunnel Vision
By: Drewbage

The season has to be approaching the half way point. I am not sure exactly how many days I have got in on the mountain but I'm sure the pass is paid for. The snow alone this year has been worth way more than the price of admission. Best believe it my friends. This weekend promises to be yet another in the long line of pow wows. Forecast is for snow showers Friday-Sunday. I have an out and back planned with the Mr and Mrs, two hommies from way back in the day. Should make for great "remember whens" on the way up. Both are accomplished boarders so really it will be a hoot all damn day. These trips are an amazing source of relaxation. I got a new sofa but its still hard to beat how comfy I feel when I'm knee deep. Giant by a field goal again even though Norwood isn't kicks for the Pats...

So I moved back to Menomonie for a little while, till like February.
I'm on my way to quit smoking, it's going pretty well. I've started working out. forest(my best friend/roommate) and I go to the gym.
shi*t, I've even cut waaaaaay down on the drinking.... it was getting pretty bad. now, I really only drink when I play beer pong(which is like every friday night or sometimes on saturdays)... I'm still undefeated, so that's good.
I still like my herbs, but even that has been cut way down.

since the ex and I split... shi*t kinda hit the fan for a while and I was mess, but I've got my life back on track. got a new girl... I think she's the tops.

I've got two bands going right now.
the one is like a surf rock/ mellow type acoustic project, and then I've got a metal band called Goat Scroat Gauntlet.

I've started writing stories and comics again as well.

yeah, I'm sure you can tell that I'm trying to stay busy.... if I don't.... I collapse and get into a bunch of shi*t that only brings me down. I am Mr. Selfdestruct, and I'm trying to change that. :) I'm doing pretty good with it too.

oh yeah.. my dad comes out to WI from CA next week, and my girlfriend comes up from Madison at the same time... so I'm super excited for that. Dad and I are going snowboarding at Welch, and I'm going to bring Casie(it's her first time), and my roommate/best friend(forest).

god damn, I can't wait.

TONIGHT, I'm going snowboarding around UW-Stout... there's some pretty rad hand rails, and some gaps and drops and shi*t. I've got an idea for some footy... but it requires a P.O.S. car that I can smash up and land on, and some lights, and somebody with a video camera....

f*ck, I need to find a filmer/photographer... my crew's filmer is lazy, and never wants t go out anymore. damn him

p.s. Bullet for my Vallentine = great music in the morning to get me going. woo!

I wanted to make this because I woke up an hour early this morning and I'm bored as hell.
My name's Mike, but I have a few nicknames. Mikey, Big Red, Mr. Med, or just Doc.
Guess where they come from...

Anyway, as you could guess I live for snowboarding. I'm hoping to live in CO soon near breck with my Fiance and best girl in the world. (Yes, better than yours)
Why? Because she's sweet, caring, absolutely gorgeous, and could probably whup your ass if you pissed her off. Very self dependent, and the same needs me as much as I need her.
Quite simply, perfect to me. :)

I started snowboarding in 95 on a piece of plastic crap on a massive hill that daunted my backyard. Since I grew up under just my mothers doting care we didn't have much. I had sort of an old age Burton approach to my boards. I'd add simply things to the board to add flex in one place and ridgidity in the next. I still have that first board, a toys-r-us special thin plastic with a skateboard rigged on the middle for strength. I used to use skateboard wax and a home iron to make it go faster. Nowadays I can buy almost any board I want, but who can forget the old days? In any case I know a good board when I see one.

Nowadays I just travel mostly, trying to keep up with the best fall around the states.
I don't consider myself a pro, but I don't think I'm intermediate. Big jumps still scare me, but I do them anyway.
What a rush.

Yeah thats it for now...

i´ve seen recent photos from whistler-blackcomb having their first pow-pow days... here in spain wegotta wait one month more for the first snow flakes... no waiting in vain!!

you have to go there!!
recently i saw al gore´s "inconvenient truth", think about that. think about the last powder days, think about the end of an era, think about the end of our sport, our lifestyle, everything we love is in danger... the freeride snowboarder is a danger of extincion!!!
