Mountain Creek put a nice flow of features in South this year, last nights slightly slushy conditions made it a nice ride. Minus for the fact of having a fever and the chills while riding, it was a good night.
My CHB was performing like it never had before. It absolutely took my breath away with how smooth it hit rails and jumps, and the speed.. that stick never booked it so fast ever in its life!

I think it's jealous of the Dark Series (even though I havent ridden that stick yet) and it was showing off last night. Nontheless, Im definitely keeping it in riding rotation!

Oh and we're in for 5-6 inches tomorrow and maybe 2 feet on sunday! woot!!

OKEMO, VT-- So we're on the lift.  As we disembark, Sara suddenly falls over and her board goes right into my shin.  I keel over in a combination of pain and vexation.  After a minute or two, I recover and realize that her board had torn my pants.  As I examined the tear I thought to myself "what's this red stuff on my fingers?”  Great, her board must have cut me....  I signaled to the crew that I'm heading back to the lodge for a band aid and proceeded to ride down the mountain.  After five minutes of wandering around the lodge, I arrived at the infirmary and politely asked for a band aid.  After a couple of minutes the nurse brought one over.  When I dropped my pants, to both of our surprise, my little cut wasn't a cut at all.  The board had actually carved my leg like a Christmas ham.  They quickly cut me out of my equipment and wrapped the wound to contain the bleeding.  My friends then carted me over to the Hospital were the doctor patched me up in rather quick but very effective fashion.  Now, everyone was concerned about a lot of things-- How bad the injury was. Was there any muscle damage…  Am I going to recover.....? I only had one question for the doc.  Can I get back on the hill say.... tomorrow?  She responded "If you hurry you can squeeze a few runs today."  I have 37 stitches and a prescription for extra strength pain meds.  In spite of being cleared by the doctor, my friends would not let me back on the hill.... and when I couldn't get my boot on it sealed the deal.  My weekend was over....

This has turned out to be a memorable season.  With the city having a record setting snow-less streak and 70 degree weather well into January, many believed that winter had skipped the East Coast this year.  However, the perpetual spring-like weather eventually gave way to an artic cold front unlike anything I can remember in recent years followed by epic amounts of pow.  I may not have had the quantity of days I wanted but the quality was unmatched....

Of President's Day Weekend:  It was the perfect day... times three.

To date I've had 11 days of riding.  Now this falls way short of what I'd had hoped to accomplish this season (I didn't count on such a late start this year).  Still, I think I can make 20.

World’s Top Riders Meet for the Union Square Street Sessions, Presented by Jeep®

PORTLAND, Maine, January 23, 2007 – Aura360 in partnership with NYC Parks & Recreation announces New York City’s first major pro snowboarding rail jam competition, The Union Square Street Sessions, presented by Jeep®. Thursday, February 8, the world’s top pro riders including Marc Frank Montoya, Danny Kass and Eddie Wall will compete head-to-head for a prize purse of $30,000.

"The Union Square Street Sessions will expose residents to the thrill of a professional snowboarding rail jam set in Union Square Park, the gateway to downtown Manhattan," said Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe.

Twenty-four men and eight women will participate in Union Square Street Sessions and will show off their skills on a customized urban rail fabricated at Mountain Creek Resort’s Jib Lab. This will be the largest such structure ever produced for an event of this kind in New York City.

“We have been working on the concept for a major pro snowboarding competition in New York City for several years,” said Dan Gacetta, partner of Aura360. “We wanted to produce a breakthrough event in a world class venue that would demonstrate the long standing involvement of urban communities in the sport of snowboarding.”

The Union Square Street Sessions will begin with athlete training at 3:00 p.m. leading up to the rail jam competition commencing at 5:30 p.m. During the contest, the neighborhood of Union Square will be transformed into an action sports block party with celebrity judges, live music provided by Fuse TV and a sponsor village comprised of action sports retailers.

The invitational pro field of top riders will be augmented by up-and-coming athletes selected at three Street Session qualifiers. Winners at The Block Party in Tahoe and Rails to Riches and Shop Wars events at Killington receive automatic qualifications.

Union Square Street Sessions partners include Jeep as the presenting sponsor and supporting sponsors Burton, Fuse TV, Snowboarder Magazine, Lat34.com, Boost Mobile, Plantronics, Mountain Creek Resort and Killington Resort.

“Freedom and adventure are among the core values of the Jeep brand, so we’re excited to sponsor The Union Square Street Sessions,” said John Plecha, Jeep Marketing and Global Communications. “Snowboarding is one of the many outdoor activities Jeep owners enjoy. Snowboarding in New York City fits naturally with the ‘go anywhere-do anything’ versatility of the Jeep brand and its vehicles.”

The winter sports celebrations will continue in New York City on Saturday, February 10 with NYC Parks & Recreation’s Winter Jam, a pro/am rail jam and winter carnival with snowshoeing and cross country skiing held in Central Park.

So, you want to know how snow gets made here at Mountain Creek? Well, below is some info that will give you a general idea about just exactly how we are able to create snow, including ideal weather conditions.

The two vital factors influencing whether or not we can make snow are TEMPARATURE and HUMIDITY. When both are factored together, we get what is called the WET BULB TEMPERATURE. Basically, the lower the wet bulb, the better the conditions for snowmaking.
Each snowgun is connected to a WATER LINE and an AIR LINE. The compressed air forces the water out of tiny holes in the guns, which turn the water into a fine mist. When this mist hits the cold air outside, it instantly freezes, creating snow!
Ideally, we would want the temps to be in the teens or low 20's, with low humidity. In that situation, we could blanket the entire mountiain in a relatively short amount of time. However, as long as the humidity is low enough, we can continue to make snow when the temperature reaches as high as 34 or 35 degrees, though the cutoff is usually freezing (32 degrees). The problem with making snow in these higher temps, though, is that the snow becomes heavier and more water-saturated, and the guns aren't able to produce as much as when the wet bulb temp is lower.
So, the next time you're lying awake in bed, dreaming of a snow-filled day on the hill, wish for both below-freezing temps and low humidity.

There you have it, the basics of creating snow. If you wanna get some more info on our snowmaking system, check out the video gallery at mountaincreek.com, where there's an exclusive video with Patrick Fournier, our Mountain Operations Manager, where he explains how the water and air are pumped across the mountain to the snowguns.

Hi everyone! I'm happy to be here.

Just found on via e-mail that i get to be an instructor for 06-07 season at Mountain Creek in Jersey.

I'm stoked because this has been a dream gig of mine for years. What's better than getting paid to do what you love?

Why is the Movie called QUESO?!

Why is the snowboard team called OAKS?!

Why is the company named Con$umer Who?!

I'll explain.

So, the whole Queso thing was random... my friend was joking around with it and it just stuck.

We chose the Oaks team because of what we saw on our last few days of riding at mountain creek.

On one of the lifts, I think it was 36 or 34, we saw somebody had etched in Oaks on it. Which is what I have for the background of my profile. We loved it! We rode down the next few days screaming that.

Color code for the team is that you have to have something element on your wardrobe. Therefore I rock a Volcom jacket with brown being the forecolor.

And I chose the name Con$umer Who because of an incident I had in a ski shop one day with my friend. I was looking for a new hat because I thought I lost mine and one of the girls was showing me her preferred hats. All of them had stuff like Mountain Creek, or Jersey written on them. I ended up getting one with Jersey on it or something... and my friend kept calling me a consumer whore. Abreviate that and you get Con$umer Who.

The end of the rant.

A lot of inside jokes though.

My Blog: creek question.
By: veevee

i used to work at a video store in high school, where we made movie popcorn. every day that i left there, i smelled like popcorn. when i bartended, i smelled like smoke when i left. etc., etc. so when the poor souls that work in the rental center and vernon lodge at mountain creek go home to their friends and fam, do they smell like feet?
