My Journal: New Season
By: leer13

I am impatiently waiting for the new season to arrive!  All we need is snow, but the weather is just not cooperating.  In the slightest!  Damn - it's hard to look at bare, brown mountains that should be covered with snow!

And the season is supposed to start on December 5.  Good luck - we need about 5 feet (1.6 m) of snow between now and then.

In the mean time, all I can do is spend money and keep hoping!

So far this year I have bought my fav skier a new set of fat skis and some bindings to go with them.

I have bought a set of Flow M-11 bindings for myself.

And I am awaiting the arrival of a Never Summer Premier F1 in a 165 cm length.

Oh yeah - I am all over winter arriving as soon as possible!!

Duff's Bday Party at the Molson Brewery! Rep of the Month.

Duff celebrated his 19th Birthday at the Molson brewery this weekend. Here's some of the action I captured in between the many free pints of frosty cold Coors Light.

What a great time. Free beer, pizza and front row seats to the Duff and friends flex off. Martins called it about 20 minutes before it happened.

Even Tom Lee from POP printing made an appearance. Above he closely inspects the print quality of Duff's head.

Rep of the Month:
Rep of the month for October goes to Benny Couves for his feat of extreme office boydom with a pickled ollie at the Tofino park.

Yeah Couves! You win the left over Coors Light from our Monster Sale located in the mini fridge at Trustus.

Double Post: We had some server trouble yesterday so here's a nice juicy double post to sink your cyber teeth into. Enjoy!

So we're looking through the All Style Apparel and Active wear catalog here at the office and a couple pages in one of the models start looking real familiar.

I'm like, hey Yvonne give me that. Oh shi*t is that...

Holy crap, its Browner doing a sandal wheelie!

Yeah we have our own Nascar. No biggie..

So if you read this thing at all you know we have our flow team working hard on their very own video project this season called "Party Snake" of which they pretty much have free rein to do whatever. The only thing I've stressed is to have our updated logo and website on the teaser. At least they pulled through on the logo. Hopefully for the video they can figure out the correct web address.

partysnake from leepipes on Vimeo.

As you can see this isn't going to be a pretty little art snowboard flick. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little worried. We're also gathering footage from the rest of the IS Eyewear allstars (Dev, Wille, Tadashi, Kale, Duff, Andrew Fuller...) for the Party Snake video which will most likely be its own section. Here's the type of footage you can expect from them..

The video will available online but we'll most likely be doing a small run of DVD's with tons of video extras which will be available for free at premieres, through friends of friends and online. Kale is working on his own Airhole video this year as well which we're working on including within the party snake DVD. Its gonna be out there so be ready!

Holy crap.. Did you see that Party Snake teaser yet? If so there's really only been two responses. 1. You loved it and can't wait to see more or 2. You hated it and wish it would die. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground on this on. Check out some of the comments I found on the Gnarcore site.

I'm still waiting on a revised teaser before I post it directly in the furious blog but you can check the rough version out on the Gnarcore site or find it on FB. There's some pretty funny comments there too:

My Journal: Season Wrap
By: leer13

WOW!!!

What a season we had here on Vancouver Island.  Let me list some of the more memorable times:

1.  We went up all season from opening to closing day.  We had spring conditions on the LAST DAY of the season and not before!!  The snow was amazing this winter, with legit winter conditions until April 6.  For the West Coast this is almost unheardof!

2.  During our annual winter break, my 71 yr old, blind mum spent four days skiing.  On the Thursday she hit a little patch, did a slo-mo pirohette and BROKE HER FEMUR!  However, she is already talking about skiing next yr when we go!

3.  Snowboarding in the trees is a blast.  This was the first season I really experienced it and glade boarding opens up whole new aspects of the mtn!  Especially in cloudy conditions.

4.  I really do need a new board.  Although I talked about a Never Summer Premier T5 circumstances prevented me from puling the trigger on it.  DAMN!  Ah well - next year.

5.  Ramen is the BEST lunch at Mt Washington.  This yr we got to know the restaurant staff, which made the food even better.

6.  Gloves are good, but mitts are even better!

7.  Watching my wife rip down the mtn is almost as much fun as riding. Damn, the girl can ski!

8.  Steep and deep really rocks!

9.  Homemade protein bars rock too.

That's it - see y'all on the slopes next season!

Recently I have been trying to figure out why God put me on this forsaken planet. Reason being, a Police department came to me and offered me a job. Previously to this, I was going to start school in May to follow my long roots and become a Bicycle Guru. Sometimes you get so caught up in "life" that you forget what matters most to you and makes you happy.

Last night I put in a movie called "Roam." It is a sequel to the movie "The Collective." It is a mountain biking film with Pros doing insane stunts and riding fast singletrack and even Ryan Leech on his Trials bike. The great thing about these movies is that they give me an adrenaline rush right there on the couch. And even though these riders are jumping HUGE road gaps and stunts, I still find a way to relax and fall asleep. I may be sick in the head, or I may just find comfort in acts of defying death and physics. I don't know.

Before I started to snooze, I was watching this wicked fast single track section and realized my love for mountain biking. I sometimes look at what I have invested in my arsenal of bicycles and think, "I could have like 2 motorcycles with all this." Sadly its true. But last night it dawned on me, as it does from time to time. I love riding motorcycles. They're so free, man and machine. But a bicycle takes it that much further. Many people Say, "its not about the Destination, but about the Journey." When you finish the journey and look back and think, I did that all myself. No engine, no gasoline, just me, my bike and a burrito or two. You go so much deeper on a mountain bike than on a motorcycle. Your breathing as it sets the pace. Heartrate pounding in your ears as you make your way up ascents that would scare sherpas. The Rush when you let go of the bars to trick as you fly over gorge's. The exhilaration when you crest a mountain to watch the sun settle into the horizon for its slumber. All this under your own power. You, two pedals, a chain, some gears, maybe suspension and a frame.  This is when the Spritual aspect comes into effect that puts it way ahead of throttle twisting. It's surreal when you look at the terrain you just tackled and you get an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment.

Riding is not just subject to us in the Northern hemisphere either. I have seen many films where riders are in 3rd world countries. The faces of the locals light up, as well as the riders, in a way of euphoria that words cannot describe. Bicycles are a Culture and Language of their own, spoken through out the world without saying a word. One day I will ride my way across the globe. Bringing inspiring smiles to children and adults alike in far away lands and my own town of residence. Then I will have a journey of my own to tell. This.........all this, is what makes me happy.

My Journal: Riding Thoughts
By: leer13

I have been riding as much as possible lately.  I have come up with the following list of random thoughts and experiences during the long chair rides, the ripping runs and the frequent conversations with my friends and family.

1.  Snowboards and bumps do not really get along.  Add steeps, trees and moguls together and you will quickly find the limits of your ability. (PS hitting trees HURTS!)

2.  Ripping through the same trees when there is 8 inches (20 cm) or more of fresh snow, however, completely erases the previous memory.  Hitting trees, however, still HURTS.

3.  Ramen, at the Sushimon Noodle House on Mt Washington, is the closest thing to a perfect mountain meal I have ever tasted.  The sourdough bowl chili at Mt Baker is a distant second.

4.  Hot chocalate topped with whipping cream is a splendid after baording concoction.

5.  A pair of cut off fleece pants (aka fleece shorts) are a great thing to wear over longies and under boarding pants.

6.  Pointing the nose of your board staight down and hanging on until you get to the bottom is still a huge rush.

7.  I really hate the smell of dope on the chair lift.  It seems to really stink these days and I can't figure out why.  I just don't like it.

8.  Meeting boarders on the mountain really is fun.

9.  New boots make a lot os difference, however, putting the liners in the opposite boots can make for a diabolical foot ache.

10.  Following someone who skis a pair of Seth Vicious's can lead you into truble (see #1 above).

11.  Happy New Year everyone!

My Journal: Winter is HERE!!
By: leer13

At long last, snow has arrived and the mountain has opened.  The anticipation has been building.  The inevitable questions arise:

Has my off season fitness worked?

What will the snow be like?

How long will the season be?

Can I really buy those new boots and board that I have been wanting?

Will the Ramen at Sushimon be as good as last year?

I plan on being up at Mt. Washington as often as I can to seek the answers to all these questions and more.

This is the time of year when I really come alive - wanting and waiting is nearly over.  The next phase of life has begun!

Wow - where did it go?  The summer is pretty much over and  looking back, I see so many things that I just never got around to doing.

But I got a new mtn bike and spent a lot of time riding it early on.  Then July hit with crappy weather and other interests, so riding fell by the wayside, but I have a ride planned this weekend so I'm going!

Speaking of bikes - I bought my son one in April, right after the Bakers April Fool ride.  He's outgrown it already!!  He has grown about 5 inches this summer and is now taller than me.  I think this means new skis this winter too!  Damn!

One other great event this summer was my fav skier getting her shoulder operated on.  She took a tumble off her bike in October 2005 and has been living with pain and discomfort ever since.  In June she went to see a specialist, they operated.  They shaved off the end of the clavicle, where it slides over the AC joint, cleaned out some scar tissue and checked the rotator cuff and joint.  Both looked good.  She has been doing lots of physio and has nearly got full range of motion back.  She is less sore.  And she can ride her bike again.  All this means she will be even harder to keep up with this winter!!

Speaking of winter - you know it's coming when you get your season pass renewal form.  YAY.

"America is shifting to a 'green culture,' with more and more businesses understanding that environmental responsibility is everyone's responsibility, By switching to alternative, renewable power sources, PepsiCo is proving that going green can be the choice of every generation." --said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson

Green power is produced from renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. These energy sources are considered cleaner and have a superior environmental profile than conventional sources of electricity. Purchasing RECs helps drive the development of additional renewable energy capacity nationwide.

With some $30 trillion to be invested in energy production over the next 30 years, making the right low-carbon investments is one of the keys to fighting climate change. Carbon offsets help put a price on the climate change consequences of these investment decisions, and if properly structured can help move a portion of that $30 trillion investment into clean energy. While a lot of that investment will be in the developing world, some of it will be domestic. Demand for new power continues to rise in the US. It is our hope that carbon offsets can help new domestic energy be as clean as possible.

My Blog: Woot, I Win!
By: cetra70

There, I was considerably nicer to those certain people today...I think they noticed, but if they didn't, GRRR...lol...

Played soccer in gym...indoors...only 5 mins per team, so it wasn't very fun...I was really looking forward to playing outside...aww =(

Okay, lately, I've been very daring...which is usually a good thing, but now I'm being stupid-daring...I really could get in trouble for what I did during Spanish class...So at first, I asked Mr. Lee if I could go out the window and pick up the trash on the roof...I asked for about 3 minutes, but he didn't listen...then he walked out of the classroom to go and print something out in the computer lab...And with my friends urging me to go do it, I did  It was fun: crawling out the window, walking to the adhesive bottle *and hoping that no one was watching*, taking the adhesive bottle, and getting back in through the window before Mr. Lee came back...ahahaha XD That was so much fun...I really must do it again sometime...

P.S. Lol, I was in such a rush to get back in that I think I got a bruise...*sigh* but Mr. Lee didn't come back until half a minute later

P.S.S. Took the 8th grade school pictures today...I didn't order cuz I bet you can't even see everyone...there were at least 250 people there; how do you fit that nicely into a picture? Gosh...

My Journal: IT'S OVER!
By: leer13

Wow - the 2007 season has wound down.  My local mtn has closed and so, with much regret, I will be waxing my boards with a summer layer and putting them away.  And what a great season it was.

My highlights include:

Book ending my season with the day after opening and the last day the mountain was open;

Staying on the mountain for a week;

April Fools at Mt. Baker with a bunch of snowboard dot commers;

Riding for an afternoon with Brian Savard and having him compliment me on my turns;

Watching my 70 year old and blind mother ski for three days.

I know I could go across to the mainland to ride some more - the Telus Festival is tempting, but I think that I will leave that for others.  The hassle, the expense, the time off work all sway me away.

And besides - I have a new mountain bike to play with and a new tandem to ride with my fav skier.  And that's what life is all about.

I am sorry I did not get to ride with some of the other folks here - all I can say:

See you next season.

And don't be a stranger!

Just one thing to say.....

Thank-you Radgalz for the bestest most funnest contest ever!!! Sarah you totally have it dialed...even if set up goes a little late into the night. The sense of comradery (is that how you spell it?) that develops is so totally awesome. After riding all year with only boys at Manning it was so much fun to see so many shredin' ladies! Besides Lindseys sick ass 540's and Merium's (also bad spell job) sneaky snake during the boarder cross open finals which earned her the win, there was yoga, the best fashion show ever, and on hill dj Lee, who spun excellent tunes for the slopestyle competition on Saturday.

Prizes where huge and sponsers like Billabong, Burton, Nomis (tenaya you rock), The Renegades, Sessions, Beaver Wax, Chicco's, Island Snow, and tons others i'm probably forgeting, spoiled us ladies rotten.

Just to mention a few other ladies i saw shreddin it up:

Jade and Tess- they are 11 and 14 and pose a serious threat in competitions. Competing in the Open category in Slopestyle and Boardercross these two are head for great, great things.

Rachel (lifty from last year) - Cleaned up in Open and took home a G-twin, sick, oh so sick, I missed her run, but a season in New Zealand did her good, the boys can't stop talking about how well you have been doing this year. I think they have a crush on you...

The Stiles - this is a family shred unit, Mom Janet, Oldest Daughter Kiara (16) and youngest Mika (10) all placed in the contest this year, well done ladies!! I doubt this family ever has to buy new clothes with all the wins they take home in a season.

Much love to everyone who competed...

And then there are the behind the scenes people:

Mo and Kelly: These two make Sarah's every dream come true....from banner placement to registration, these guys do everything that keeps the show running.

So I guess thanks Sarah and Radgalz for the bestest competition ever, i met the nicest people, rode with seriously talented girls and saw beginners fall in love with snowboarding.

I am a person who will ALWAYS find something to do on the internet...so that's what I did today...I spent a decent amount of time on urbandictionary.com...which I now regret.

I was bored out of my mind so I looked up some words and found these definitions:

13.
girlfriend
213 up, 194 down

Someone who you endlessly waste your time and money on, so she can repay you by screwing you over for someone else, and still have the nerve to ask you to be her friend. Cuz she thinks shes all that
Any girl I've ever met.

30.
girlfriend
29 up, 42 down

Someone who will leech off of you, until they have consumed all your resources and friends, before they move on to someone else etc.

AKA, a computer virus.
My girlfriend spent all my money and made me lose my mates, and now she's f*cking that guy from burger king.

Sigh...what is wrong with these people? Then compare these to the following:

4. boyfriend
206 up, 27 down

someone who is able to make you smile all the time, someone who you can trust and talk to about any thing. He should be the one who walks you home just incase, and buy you icecream =] He should also be someone who makes you happy when your down, and makes everything alrite when everything is shi*t.

all the above describes my boyfriend

Hmm...I think the people on Urban Dictionary are sexist...sigh...okay, back to more randomness...
