Prologue-
Braches whipped at Trey and Anica’s face as they raced as quickly as possible through the woods. Their feet were covered with mud but it didn’t matter they just knew they had to get away. The two didn’t know where they were going, they just ran. They stopped suddenly looking around they realized there was no hope, they must give up. Trey and Anica’s lives were about to be changed…forever.
1 Week Earlier
Down by the riverbanks of Wisconsin, Anica’s dress flowed elegantly down the riverbank side. Her golden hair swung smoothly throughout the air, as the wind whipped it about. Trey hesitated for a moment pondering whether to intrude on Anica in such a manor. When all the sudden he saw Anica turn her head and look at Trey with those emerald green eyes, so Trey started towards Anica along the riverbed side. The mud clung to Treys boots as he slowly made his way towards Anica.
Anica chuckled slightly as she watched Trey fight his way through the bundles of thorn bushes. She thought that she should go and help him, but suddenly the fishing pole she had just cast into the water started to jig up and down fiercely. Anica quickly forgot about helping Trey and set the hook on the fishing pole. Trey had just reached Anica, when she pulled a nice size trout out of the water.
“Well it’s about time you came over here, I saw you standing there for about 5 minutes.” Anica said, throwing the river trout into her basket.
Ducking his head to avoid a swooping branch “Why didn’t you say anything?” he asked.
“Well, I was trying to figure out what you were doing, but I couldn’t, so then I just looked at you, hoping you would come over here just as you did.” Anica explained, raising her head towards Trey’s.
“Why, in the world did you hope I would?” Trey asked.
“So I could ask why you were looking at me,” she laughed, “and then maybe you would fish with me for a while.”
Trey thought she looked like a goddess; her feet sprawled across the river bank side, he dress flowing down her sleek body, fitting it perfectly. She looked simple enough but something made her so beautiful, even her hair looked ideal as it flowed down her shoulders curling at the bottom to create a childish effect on her face.
Anica stared straight into Trey’s grey eyes, and hard tanned face, she wondered just what made him so ruthless and cold. Trey was 18 and had a very set figure, he was hard and secluded and very rarely smiled, except for when he was around Anica. She had some sort-of effect on him that no one else did. Her laugh sounded as if it was an angels and he laughed at her expressions she put on that cute face when she was frustrated or angry. But even though she could do these things to him, he was still rude and cold to almost everything and everyone else. He has always been that way ever since childhood, as a child he wasn’t allowed to show emotions, and he hasn’t ever since. Trey grew up in a run-down house outside of a small town. He had 5 sisters and 3 brothers, he hasn’t spoken to them ever since he left home at 14, and doesn’t intent to. His mother and father couldn’t support such a big family and Trey was the oldest boy so he was forced to leave home. He didn’t understand at the time why his older sister didn’t have to leave, but he did now. His mother and father despised Trey, he didn’t know why and still doesn’t to this day. But despite all this that has happened to Trey, he grew up to be a good civilized person.
At the age of 15 Anica was very smart, she knew more about literature then you could ever think a 15 year old to know. She studied everyday in the sunroom at the east end of the house, she had many tutors but they were never educated enough to keep Anica busy for long. Anica was very interested in learning new things; her mind could connect things so quickly it surprised even her own father. She has always been very quick to learn things, she is also very tomboyish, she loves to fence, fish, and hunt just like most young boys do. But if you took one look at the childish face you would never suspect it until you talked to the intelligent student. She could talk about anything from philosophy to gardening. She was also very good with children; she loved talking to children and just interacting with them.
Snapping out of the state of being he was in he replied “I would be delighted to fish with you, but I must warn you that you are most likely better than I.” Trey explained looking at the stream.
The hours passed by quickly and before either of them realized it was almost sundown.
“Oh no!” exclaimed Anica, scampering up from the blanket.
“What is it Anica?” asked Trey standing up so she could collect the blanket.
“I was supposed to meet grandfather in the library this evening, for a lesson!!!” a look of despair flashed over her face.
“It is alright it is better for you to get one night off from studying. You study too much you will ruin that perfect mind. You are bright enough as it is you should not have to study every second of you life.” Trey explained seeing her face flush a vibrant color of red.
“Thank you…” she whispered, Anica did not know how to respond to such a remark.
“Do not thank me I am speaking the truth, one does not need to be thanked when telling what is real.” Trey explained looking into those loving green eyes.
“I really must be going.” She said after a few minuets of silence. Anica stooped to pick up her jacket and blanket and folded them both neatly over her arm in the other hand she carried her fishing pole and basket of fish.
“Please let me carry something.” Trey said.
“No I’m fine I have it under control.” Anica explained as her foot slipped and she side stepped to regain balance.
“No really let me carry something you just about toppled over right there.” Trey said already grabbing for the fishing pole and basket.
“Fine, if you must be so insistent take it.” Anica said she said shoving the basket into Trey’s gut.
