Mammoth Mountain, CA – The Town of Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area welcomed the first commercial aircraft in over a decade to arrive in Mammoth Lakes, California on October 14, 2008. Travelling from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the 74 seat, high-speed, twin-engine turboprop Bombardier Q400 operated by Horizon Air safely touched down as scheduled at 10:05 a.m.

With a snowy Mammoth Mountain in the background, courtesy of an early-season snowstorm the previous weekend, the first passengers exited the plane to be greeted by a gathering of town dignitaries and local residents. This inaugural flight was designed to give Horizon Air staff and special media guests a glimpse of what will come when nonstop daily service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Mammoth Lakes begins on December 18, 2008.

“We have been working very hard to get commercial air service back to Mammoth after a 13-year absence,” said Howard Pickett, Chief Marketing Officer at Mammoth Mountain. Pickett continued, “Horizon’s daily flights will make it even easier to get to California’s biggest playground here in the Eastern Sierra. Now winter enthusiasts will be able to spend more time enjoying the slopes, and less time trying to get here.”

Horizon Air will run daily service from Dec. 18, 2008, through April 12, 2009. The 65 minute flight departs Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) daily at 2:20 p.m. and arrives at Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH) at 3:25 p.m. The return flight leaves Mammoth at 4:05 p.m. and arrives at LAX at 5:10 p.m. Introductory fares for select flights from Los Angeles to Mammoth Lakes are available for $79 each way, and standard fares are available starting at $99 each way.*

In preparation for commercial air service from Horizon Air, Mammoth Yosemite Airport recently underwent $12 million in improvements including a new 5,000 sq. foot commercial terminal building, a reconstructed runway and taxiway, new runway lighting, new ramp lighting and a new automated weather system. The last commercial air service to MMH airport was Transworld Express in 1995.

This year our spring shoot consisted of four park sessions, Aspen, Whistler, Grouse Mountain and Mount Washington.

As witnessed in the blog below titled "One way to get to the next shoot" our journey from the session at Grouse Mountain to Mount Washington was an unforgettable experience to say the least.

To our crews delight the spring session at Mount Washington turned out to deliver unexpected pow freshies for all to enjoy.

But the Highlight of the trip was the night of KAZU aka GIZO. A few of the crew on our last night went out for Gizos B-day and did it up pretty well as you will see, look for the DVD easter egg aptly named Night of Gizo.

Right now, the only thing that would make life better is to go wakeboarding more often, but at least  have winter to look forward to with lots and LOTS of frozen boarding in on the snow. Snowboarding was my first love, but I think what really attracts me the wakeboarding is the chillin' in the boat with friends/new friends while taking a breather and enjoy watching the next guy work on his or her riding. This summer I did compete in the novice division on three different wakeboard tournaments. I didn't place (by meaning the top 3) but I also don't have the mileage or boat time other do, or I'm sure I'd eventually dominate the comps. I'll just have to keep working at stuff and if I keep determined enough, I'll get there.

My 10 gallon fishtank has about 100 fish in it (maybe more) On Saturday evening I watched one of my fish give birth to the first of about 30-50 little specs swimming around. Fish lay eggs you say? Yes- that is correct, except for livebearers such as swordtails, guppies, platies and mollies(what I have) Every fish in my tank but one was born in it. The one not born in the tank gave birth to all the others. It's pretty amazing stuff to watch if you've never seen it. Ah well, they are fish. If anyone wants fish, they're free... the only problem is that shipping would got more than their value, so if you live in North Idaho or Eastern Washington, then come and take all the gold dust, deep orange black finned mollies you want. ... shipping is $35 or so (since it's same or next day + material to pack and such) .. this kind sells for a little under $2 at walmart each, so depending on the math, you'd probably want a bulk of 50+.

Of most exciting news in my personal life is my nephew who will be four months old in about 1½ weeks. We weighed him at the vet yesterday and he is almost 16 lbs. The Story there -- I was helping taking the cats to the vet for vaccinations and sister couldn't carry two cats and an infant, so I did the 100+ mile drive down to their place. It was a nice weekend. When baby slept, we enjoyed the season 1 DVD of Robot Chicken.

I love snowboarding, so obviously I'm a regular on this colonies (snowboard.colonies.com) but now I'm interested in also seeing the wakeboard section of this site grow. If anyone has ideas, please pass them on. I have zillions of ideas, but that's just how I am. :)

SoCal local Jeff has been riding Bataleon Snowboards for most of the season. Jeff rides the all “new” RIOT. This deck is a true twin with some balls for guys like Jeff that ride hard, go big and need a solid and stable deck to support their agressive style in any terrain.

Jeff has been filming on the new Mongo Pro project that comes out next fall.

Keep your eyes out for more new on Jeff in the near future.

Jeff is supported by Grenade, Electric and Easterns Boarder.

YEAH FOR IT JEFF

Its early morning, the sun is just rising over the eastern horizon… The clouds lay low, because of the soft and precious morning dew… As many lay asleep, still trying to gain strength for today's work day, here I stand on the side of an unknown and unconquered mountain top…I take a moment to sit and listen to all that is around…though silence fulfills the air, I hear things that many humans wouldn't count as hearing… I hear things like determination, skill, power, fear, vengeance, pride, and courage… And right as the sun light gently presses against my face, I am off… Soaring down the side of the mountain, go here and there… Jumping and falling off cliffs that most would fear, I take them on and perfectly land, thus continuing down the hill… Swerving to the left and right, it is like I am floating through the clouds of air, nothing can stop me from enjoying this moment… All of the sudden, an avalanche occurs, and I feel the rush of snow behind me… I decide then to head straight down to attempt to flee from the bewildering snow… Colors start to fade together and sounds become muffled as my speed increases dramatically… I see this ledge coming up, and even though I have no idea what is on the other side, I take it… Within seconds I am flying through the air, probably 100's of feet up above the ground… The avalanche is right below me, if I were to fall down right now, I wouldn't make it… But to my luck, the avalanche has made trees bend, so I head straight for them… B*ng! My board crashes against a bending tree sending wood pieces everywhere… Balance is the key to success, and like in an asian movie, I hop from tree to tree grinding my way down the mountain side… The forest has protected me and stopped the avalanche… And as I ride down the last part of the mountain side, I slow down to stop and turn on the chair lift… "Dude, where were you man? You just missed this awesome avalanche…" My buddy would say to me as we attend our jobs… And my reply would be, "Oh, just out snowboarding."…

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE

1920's, 30's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks some of us took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds, KFC, Subway or Red Rooster.

Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on the weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Fruit Tingles and some fire crackers to blow up frogs and lizards with.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and cubby houses and played in creek beds with matchbox cars.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, Xboxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape or DVD movies, no surround sound, no mobile  phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents.

Only girls had pierced ears!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross buns at Easter time.......no really!

We were given BB guns and sling shots for our 10th birthdays,

We drank milk laced with Strontium 90 from cows that had eaten grass covered in nuclear fallout from the atomic testing at Maralinga in 1956.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!

Footy had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

Our teachers used to belt us with big sticks and leather straps and bully's always ruled the playground at school.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

Our parents got married before they had children and didn't invent stupid names for their kids like "Kiora" and "Blade".....

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 70 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO

DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

Le faboleux destin de Marco: Toblerone, Schnitzel and Weißwurst
By: smarco

Good morning folks and Happy Easter or Summer or anything by the way!
Hmm what have I been up to since my last post... Not too much I guess but still actually a lot. After Canada I spend about three weeks at home during which I only went to school and wrote some exams, hung around with friends, played Snooker and went Snowboarding on the week-end. After this it was already time for Spring Break again. Before my breaks even started they were already completely planned-out. Friday: Ischgl, Corner Sunset Shoot; Saturday: Penken; Sunday to Tuesday: Meiringen QP Shoot with some Suisse people.
This is Christoph Weber and now guess who took the picture? Yeah, me with me tremendously good cell phone cam!

Wednesday to Sunday: Switzerland doing different kind of things...
I'm wondering if somebody may imagine what we've done with this thing... I can only tell: The idea was from a Suisse guy...

Monday and Tuesday: Soelden Kicker Shoot; Wednesday to Sunday: Spring Session in Laax.
I must say that I was happy when everything turned out to be different again and I could therefore spent at least two days of my 2 week holidays at home.
Anyway I had a good time, although I was a little unlucky regarding face injuries...

And only one week after this...

Switzerland was cool. I'm always enjoy just listening to this interesting dialect. Sometimes it's really weird... Hure Babylon! (For Insiders...)

Spring Session was just a blast again! Although they really had very little snow they managed to build a good park. And the Pizza was as good as every year... So we had 4 days with a lot of snowboarding, a lot of beer, a lot of pizza, a lot of backflips and a decent lack of sleep...

Well, right now I'm sitting at my desk at home and turning pretty tired. Anyway I gotta get up in 6 hours again because we're going to Val Senales tomorrow.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

This past weekend was great.  I headed home for easter, and spent a few very drunken days at home with the family and friends.

On Saturday night, we decided to celebrate my sister and a few of her friends birthdays.  The only rule was, everyone celebrating with us had to wear goggles.  Snow/Water/Safety... we weren't fussy.  We pre drank at my house, and after 7 beer and 16 jello shooters, I was ready for the bar.  It was great running into a bunch of aquaintances from high school that I haven't seen for years... and trying to explain to people why I was wearing goggles.  It was also a very good thing that the bouncers knew us, otherwise there is no way my sister would have even been allowed in the bar! fun stuff!

Other than that, lots of time spent with the family, and just relaxing.  Now, the count down is on.... 7 days until Whistler. I cannot friggen wait!

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Hello Hello!

Well is it now april... it`s been very long since the last time i logged in. I`ve grown older, wiser and more mature...NOT!
I`ve just grown to accept that the human race is ruining the planet. Reasons why, Montrealers this year had a green Christmas, and a white Easter Sunday. Awkward.
Anyway...enough of blaming ourselves... we`ve all been there more than once. And i presume that this site is for snowboarders and everything and anything that has to do with snowboarding. Hence, I am talking about snow! lol... Regardless, i had a wonderful season. I already started with a pretty wide stance, and I have only learned to ride better with it already large enough. My deck, Morrow(made by K2[wow, i`m so proud to say that]) thrashed beyond belief. I got my deck in December, and By January 21st, my beautiful sunshine yellow base torn and shredded. So friends, do remember to stick to groomed trails if you want to shred the snow. It`s not always you who shreds the snow, the snow can shred you too. So I guess thats all i have to say... for now... The season is over.. and until December...

Have  a nice summer everyone!

Hi everyone

Hope that wherever you are things are going great and all that happy spring stuff.  I am on extended vacation after finishing up the SBX season at Cypress last weekend and getting back into the wine world at the Playhouse wine fest in Van.  I am now spending some time in Whistler, chillin with a great guy drinking wine and thinking about doing some snowboarding.  I don't know when exactly I'm heading home, but soonish.  Maybe Monday.  It's pretty tempting to stay for ski and snowboard festival, but that would put me at a total stay here in Whistler of over 3 weeks and I certainly don't want to outstay my welcome :)

So, for those in the Rockies, I guess we'll see you soon and for those of you around the west coast, let me know if you wanna shred or have a cocktail or something.

Lots of love SAM
