News and stuff: All the info you need regarding OBz Grouse 2009

Hello friends,

Please mark off THURSDAY APRIL 9TH on your calendars, as you are all requested to get out of the office and join Malakye, KNOW?SHOW, Coors Light, SBC and IS Eyewear for a fun day of shredding at Grouse Mountain.

This is the day for you to band together with your co workers and come enjoy endless cups of coffee and bottomless boxes of Donuts, and shred some office boy (and girl, of course) sized obstacles. How does Quasi-Big Air sound? Those who came out last year remember the joy of the hippy jump. There will be "Brass Balls" awarded, "Blue Balls" called out, a "Scorpion King" Crowned, and success in your work will be measured pound by pound in the weigh off. Many other prize categories are up for grabs, and this year, we welcome you to help us out by giving us your ideas for categories and/or supply us with some used office furniture to build into the course.

Office Booyz is back!!!!!!!

Alright all you office booyz and girlz out there, its once again that special time of year where we all get to pull our fluffy muffins out from under our desks and let them wiggle and jiggle in the fresh air with a fun day of snowboarding.. That’s right, Office Booyz the contest is back! With all the excitement generated from our very successful first ever US edition of Office Booys held at Bear Mountain last month there’s no doubt that our upcoming event will be one to remember. Don’t blow it! Missing out on this industry-wide day of F.O.O.O.E (fun out of office experience) would be a horrible mistake…

Details, details…

Mark it down in your day-timers folks! April 11th is set as the date of our 3rd annual Office Booyz event to be held up Grouse Mountain. Your contest entry fee includes: lift ticket, donuts & coffee, lunch, delicious belly buddies provided by Coors light, the official Office Booyz 2008 event T-shirt for the first 100 people to show up and pretty much a guarantee you’ll be walking away with some sort of ridiculous prize. The entry fee with a corporate pass is $30 per participant and $62 per participant for those without. Pre-register your office team at malakye.com/ob.

Event Schedule / format

*In case you’re not familiar with the Office Booyz contest please note that all obstacles are “office sized” and even more importantly, “office friendly”.

-Registration for the event will be held from 9am to 11am in front of Starbucks
-A massive on hill Coffee and Donut buffet will be available during the time of registration
-The event will run with an open jam style format
-It kicks off at noon sharp and will go till 2pm or till we’re ready to quit
-After party to be announced soon

Office Booyz Bear Mtn 08!

Well the tradition of crappy weather followed the Office Booyz contest all the way down to California this year for our first ever Office Booyz event held south of the Canadian boarder. Bad weather boarding isn't out of the norm for the local mountains of Vancouver but for it to happen at Bear had us a little worried. Despite the weather we had an amazing turnout and an ever better time. Here's some highlights of the action that went down during the contest.

Right after I put this crappy little slide show together a boat load OB photo's showed up in my in box. I didn't add them in. Here's a short slide show from the office boys contest up on Grouse Mountain April 12Th. By the time the sun finally came out most of the contestants and our official OB photographer "Geoff Andruik" had already made thier way to the bar for frosty tacklers.

Office Booyzz 2007

We held the second Office Booyz contest up at Grouse yesterday and wow, what a groupe of beauties...

Truthfully though, it was less of a contest and more just a bunch of fluffy office folk huddled around the donut table situated in the extremely fogged out snowboard park up Grouse. It was almost like we all jumped into a time machine to the 2006's Office Booyz! It did get sunny for by around 3pm but by that time almost everyone had made it to the bar for delicious coldies. Dev, Dionne, Duff and Kale all came up to Judge the non even. I think we blew there minds. The competition was so fierce they couldn't even decide on a winner so we ended up pulling names out of a hat. Pretty much everyone left Grouse with a prize and at least 3 or 4 donuts in them. Thanks to everyone who came out!

Office Booyz "the contest" number two...

That's right, Office Booyz "the contest" is back. If you missed out on last years event this is your chance to pull your fluffy muffin away from your desk for a day and enjoy a little bit of air time. Don't worry, donuts and coffe will be available on site.

If you don't feel like pulling out your magnifying glass to read the flyer above here's all the important info you need to know.

Date: Thursday April 12th

Entry: $50 per person. This includes coffee, donuts, burger, beer, lift ticket + comp

$20 per person for passholders

**Max 5 people per team. NO PROS.

Prizing by donation is needed.
Payments will be due at registration the morning of the contest

Snowboard News: Team Dirt Bag in Finland

Team Dirtbag over in Finland has been killing it this past month. Here are a few photos from Ilari. Joe Sexton just got back from a month long trip over there where he has been riding with Fredu, Risto Ruokola and friend of StepChild Torsti. In between Joe getting all artsy with his new digital camera and living off junkfood he was able to get some bangers for the movie.

Here's Joe's trip story and then some artsy shots from Joe with dead birds and shi*t.

JOE WROTE... 
As soon as I stepped off the plane I was greeted by two of the biggest dirt bags I had ever met, one I had met before and the other I had not. The first was Ilari Suhohen or however you spell it, the Defective filmer and my baby sitter for the trip, the other was named simply "Pops". I think they pronounced it douche bag though. Pops was a digi filmer and was pretty new but did a good job.

  Anyways after gathering all my luggage it was off to check out some spots. We hopped in the booze wagon and we were off, I had no idea what to expect before coming to Finland. I thought it was going to be a cool spot for rails, but when I actually got there it exceeded all my expectations. Just minutes from the airport are all the spots I have dreamed of hitting, every rail seemed perfect, I was quickly told these were "played out" and they were right.

  After that we met up with the rest of the boyz, Fredu Sirvio, Risto Ruokola, and simply Torsti. I won’t bore you with what hammers went down on the trip and when Risto did a benihana worty pickle revert, or when Fredu busted out the switch barracuda roll and at the last second reverted it to fake-eye. And of course you don't want to hear about Torsti’s Swedish chili rainbow and how he brought it back to reggys, yea you probably don’t want to hear about that.

So instead of explaining everything I just made list with all the highlights and low lights of the trip... enjoy. Thanks to Ilari, for letting me stay with him and putting up with me for a month, and all the bros for fun times shredding.

  These were the highlights of my trip highlights of my trip:  

- Meeting three amazing snowboarders Fredu, Risto, Torsti, 2 amazing filmers, Ilari, Pops and making 5 good friends.

  - Making every spot ride-able, whether it was cutting down a post or bending a rail.  

- Using a flamethrower even when we really didn’t need to.

  - Eating so much candy and drinking so much pop, I actually built up a tolerance.

- Not knowing what anything says and asking my Finnish brothers for help 24/7.

  - End of the trip when everyone got sick except Ilari and me.

- Wearing a long sleeve and no gloves in -30 weather.

- Having Chi Guy come visit us for a week, and really getting to know him. Thanks!   

- Having the most fun on my snowboard.  

- Late night coffees and donuts  - Eating McDonalds and Hesburger  .

- Being there for a month and getting kicked off of 2 rail’s the whole time.

King of The Forest 2006

Located between Lynn Headwaters Regional Park and Mount Seymour Provincial Park in North Vancouver, the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve comprises roughly one third of the 18,000 hectare Seymour Watershed.

Within minutes of downtown the reserve contains some of the most impressive and diverse landscapes in the Vancouver area. Previously known as the Seymour Demonstration Forest, (Demo forest) and renamed in the spring of 1999, almost 25 miles (40 km) of roads and recreational multi-use trails run through the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve (LSCR).

This forest is one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of riding my longboard in. We still call it the Demo Forest even though officially the name has been changed. Nestled in this forest is a 10 kilometer paved path that winds through the trees with breathtaking views, creeks, wildlife and a few nice long rolling hills. This paved path is closed to motor vehicles and used by all manner of recreational activities such as bikers, walkers, joggers, rollerbladers etcAfter spending some time riding with friends along this path, I was sitting down with my good buddy Tony Bag of Donuts Moberg discussing the possibility of developing a unique event for the Vancouver longboard scene and he suggested that we think about the Demo Forest. This was the birth of The King of The Forest 20k Longboard Endurance Race. The first year we decided that begging forgiveness was easier than asking for permission so we ran The KOTF as an outlaw race. The race went off without a hitch and the awards ceremony/after party was an absolute blast. However, a few days after the event I did receive a letter from the man in charge at The LSCR. He was not happy with our outlaw race. I wrote him back and in my letter I let him know that we would like the opportunity to learn how to use the reserve responsibly, (Begging forgiveness). They set some simple guidelines for us and we met them.

July 7^th 2006 we met at 6:00pm at the gazebo, near the starting gate for the race meeting. The energy level was high, the anticipation strong. Standing by, prepared for the worst and hoping for the best were The Saint Johns Ambulance volunteers. Along the course, racers would find five race course Marshals dressed in red KOTF t-shirts, armed with two way radios. In the flats there were water stations that Im sure all the racers were happy to find. This is a grueling 20 KM race against the clock; not for the casual cruiser. The first heat of four left the gate at 6:30 sharp. The remaining heats followed in two minute intervals. Again, this race went off without a hitch and we raised close to $1000.00 for a local humanitarian organization called The Harvest Project. Each racer paid a $50.00 entrance fee with half of that fee being donated to the local charity.

Last years second place winner Mathew Haines was crowned King Mathew with a record breaking time of 44:29, beating The defending champion King Brians record of 47:50. King Brian fell into 9^th place with 51:37. Last years third place winner Hugh Kibbling Johnston moved up a spot to take second place with 47:06. Matt Hoodie Shaw also moved up from 5^th place last year to claim 3rd place with 47:26.

Good times had by all and another KOTF goes down in the record books. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the racers, the guys at The Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve and the sponsors (Landyachtz, Rayne, Redneck, OSB, Skull Skates, Wickwinder, Concrete Wave, Spectrum Skatepark Creations & Lonsdale Board Co.) Special thanks to Tammy Anderson, Ari Barnes, Tim Watson and all the volunteers for a great event. Who will be crowned King of The Forest next year

My Blog: Rediculous A-Basin Day Trip

This is an older blog I had on MySpace but decided I needed to put on here too...part of a long needed updating process

This past Saturday the Snowriders took a day trip with 3 school vans and 24 members to A-Basin...this one of the most entertaining and chaotic days of my life to date. Here is a re-cap...Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did.

6:30am - Meet members with vans at Westfall parking lot and load up gear

7am - Head out without Wang (Brandon) and one very hung over member

- Brandon G. proceeds to drive like a maniac and nearly kill himself and 12 members - we later find out he's totaled 9 cars (don't ask how he ended up driving)

- All vans narrowly miss random hay bales in middle of the highway...good times

Consumed: 1/2 Liter Svedka Vodka 1 gallon OJ

9:30am - Arrive at A-Basin - Unload members and gear head out

AMAZING first run despite 40mph winds at top

12am - Tyler and Dave start up game of 'Speed Quarters' in the bar with randoms

1pm - Top of mountain closed down due to poor visibility (and maybe 40mph winds). Lift lines hit 45 minute wait...

1:30pm - Trevor, Meg, Adam2, Joel, myself and Dave decide to take a van (and two of the responsible drivers) 7 miles down the road to Keystone

Consumed: Other 1/2 Liter Vodka (flask in hand we head to the gondola)

2 Hours and 1 AMAZING drunken run later (and after running into Courtney Germain), we head back to A-Basin

3:50pm (and 20 minutes after we had told the members to meet us) - Get back to A-Basin, load up vans and head out

- Not without a stop to the liquor store to pick up: another liter of vodka, a bottle of rum and a 12-pack

Here's where the fun really begins:

- Of course it starts to snow and the wonderful CSU rear wheel drive vans start sliding...the drunken guys decide to get out and help push

- Trevor tackles Tyler and tries to throw him over the guard rail

- Tyler get left behind while smoking and has to chase the van in the snow and ice...

- Joel gets pissed off while pushing the vans since cars are trying to pass us in the break down lane and honking...decides to kick a silver BMW in the door and tells the driver "Get back in your f*ing BMW and go spend some more money!"

- Joel opens door of moving car into Tyler...Trevor jumps out and tackles him again

- Meanwhile...drunken annoying member gains nick name of Rum Runner (here on referred to as RR) for the bottle of rum/gallon of OJ he is consuming by himself - Pissing off everyone in the van

- Trevor drunkenly tries to tell Megan how to drive. Megan gets pissed off and tell Trevor (and RR) to shut up

- We FINALLY get the van moving after fish-tailing all over the place and having to push the van every 5 feet...and it takes us 2-3 hours to hit the Eisenhower Tunnel (should be a half hour - tops)

- RR gets pissed off because I won't let him piss in a bottle. Conversation:

RR: I'm gonna pee in this bottle.

Me: No f*ing way! You're waiting till we get to the gas station like everyone else.

RR: Rugby team is way cooler than Snowriders.

Me: Why? Because they let you piss in beer bottles?!

Time Unknown - Gas Station Stop

- RR tries to purchase two 40's, which we quickly put a stop too (the dumb ass had already had a bottle of rum to himself) - Another comparison of how much better Rugby team is than Snowriders - Meanwhile....Tyler dumps out the rest of RR's booze and replaces it with just OJ - He never knows the difference

- Trevor steals 2 hot dogs, eats one and a half and throws the other at a van while we're pulling out of the parking lot

Back on the Road: Time Unknown

- Trevor, Tyler and annoying/wasted RR PTFO (Tyler in my lap)

- Trevor wakes up: "Hey, we should stop and buy donuts." - One member happens to have purchased donuts at the gas station and gives Trevor half of one.

- Trevor PTFO's

- Trevor wakes up 10 minutes later: "Dude, someone just fed me a f*ing donut."

- Trevor PTFO's

FINALLY We Hit Denver and I-25:

- Dumb Ass (aka RR) wakes up from drunken stupor. Conversation:

RR: Where are we? What happened today?

Adam2: Seriously, dude?

RR: No really. Why did we leave Ft. Collins?

Adam2: Dude, we went to A-Basin and went snowboarding.

RR: Oh yeaH! I kinda remember now...

The retard FORGOT WE WENT SNOWBOARDING!

- A bunch of us are talking about Megan's b-day party that night. Conversation:

RR: What day is it? Thursday? I can totally go to the party as long as I'm in class by 2 tomorrow.

Me: Nope. Sorry. The party is cancelled.

RR: Aw. Too bad *passes out - thank god* (one of the most annoying drunks I've met in my ENTIRE life)

Apparently he also forgot what day it was...I wonder if he tried to go to class today....

9pm - Back in Ft. Collins

- Unload vans, people, booze, etc.

- Attempt to wake up Tyler (hitting his face, shaking limbs, screaming his name) - Finally after 5 full minutes he comes to and stumbles out of the van into a bush

- Tyler tries to kick Gregg - Gregg grabs his leg - Tyler falls onto sidewalk HARD

- Tyler poors can of Pringles over his face while still lying on pavement

- RR pukes in bush in front of dorm

- RR straps board onto his back pack so it's sticking out the sides and attempts to ride his bike down the sidewalk...takes out the mirrors of about 5 cars....falls down...(hereby banished from ALL Snowriders trips and events that involve possible consumption of alcohol)

- The hords disperse and vans (reeking of booze) are returned. Go CSU

- I realize I can't find my keys...eventually make it home to get spare set, shower, head out to Meg's keg party...needless to say neither Trevor or Tyler made it

Once again...most amazing Snowriders day trip ever. I love you guys

The first ever Office Booyz "the contest" went down yesterday up at Grouse Mountain. Early morning rain and serious fog had me doubting we 'd have much of a turnout but I totally underestimated the power of free coffee and donuts. Check out some highlights from the event.

THE “WORKING CLASS” OF THE SKATE & SNOW COMMUNITY

WILL BATTLE HEAD-TO-HEAD ON SOME OFFICE-SIZED OBSTACLES

March 22, 2006. North Vancouver, British Columbia. - The first event of its kind, Office Boys: The Contest will pit snow and skate industry “office dwellers” in a jam-style battle on the obstacles of Grouse Mountain’s parks.

The contest (and, more importantly, the riders) will be judged by some of snowboarding’s biggest names, possibly including: Chris Dufficy, Devun Walsh, Kale Stephens, Ikka Bakkstrom, and Eero Niemela, too name a few.

Organizers say: “This is finally going to give the industry’s biggest wash-ups the chance to shine”.

What: Office Boys: The Contest

Where: Grouse Mountain

When: Sunday, April 9th, 2006

Check In: 08:00-10:00

Warm Up: 10:00-12:00

Coffee & Donuts: 10:00-12:00

Contest: 12:00-14:00

BBQ & Awards: 14:00-17:00

Cost: $100 per company. Includes entry for 5 riders (must be non-sponsored), morning coffee and donuts, BBQ lunch and beer. ( This price is with a Y2Play or corporate pass ). Lift tickets are at a discounted rate of $32 per person.

Additional team members are $42 including lift tickets.

How to register: pre-registration must be confirmed by Monday, April 3rd. All registration will be done by Grouse Mountain. Contact Jeff Silcock via jsilcock@grousemountain.com.

The Biggest "Non Contest" of the year!

April 9th will give the working class of the snow and skate industry a chance to get its fat self away from the computer and up the mountain to get rad. My Blog: First trip of the season

Took the first trip of the season this past weekend and headed up to Stratton and Okemo. The new setup is really nice and the new bindings are way more comfortable than the old ones. I did a few runs at Stratton on friday (12/30) but hit a nice icy patch and took a nasty fall. The next day we headed to Okemo (12/31) but I opted to chill in the lodge and read since my knee and arm were still very sore. The bf informed me that conditions were much better there. New Year's Eve it snowed about 4" but we didn't get to enjoy the freshies because we had to head home. Highlight of the trip - getting busting by the cops for doing donuts in a parking lot. They just laughed at us and let us go with a warning. Next trip is in 2 weeks back to Stratton, I hope to get to the Creek a few times before then.

As days approach Christmas Eve, people begin to get more frantic. I see them at the mall, why people go to the mall for christmas presenets puzzles me. How un original. I hear them on the phone. Like the parents demading their right to see their family members during the holiday season. I smell the franticness! All those damn pointsettia's people keep sending my office, oh and the chocolates, and the fruity cakes thingys! Its all around me!

This is what I love about the holidays, and its soley disappeared since I became an "adult".....

Wrapping presents, while listening to christmas music and having the fire on in the fire place.
