IS Team Rider BRad Martin sent me this photo of himself on the podium with a Silver Medal around his neck at the recent world cup event held at Stoneham. Yeah Brad!




New IS team rider Janelle Pritchard (No relation to "Dean Pritchard" from the movie Oldschool) got some podium action of her own up at Whistler this weekend receiving Bronze at the Showdown. Good work Janelle! Don't blow all that loot on some fancy radio.

Call with Kale: Kale gave me a call Sunday afternoon to share his excitement about trying out the new fishburger at Wendy's. He was like "they're using the good fish now, some delicious Alaska code or something". Then he let me go so he could place his order. I decided to call him back Today to see if the fishburgers lived up to the hype. Kale ensured me that they did and stated the new fish burgers at Wendy's actually tasted like some delicious type of fish burger you'd find at a high end fish and chips spot. I felt good about the conversation and let him go.

This weekend my really good friend Jay came in from NYC, and we kicked his ass. I picked him up at the airport at 11:41 am on Friday by 2:00 we were in the backcountry taking hot laps with Andy Spotts and Peter Tankersley. By nightfall we were tired and went home. Up Saturday morning with the sleds gassed up, lunches packed and a new tape in the camera, we headed out again. We met up with Josh Hall and Dave Harabedian and went full throttle making turns and shuttling on the sleds. Sunday was an on hill day at Squaw, what a trip I have been in the backcountry all season, that was my first day at the resort this year. Squaw was fun, but the backcountry was calling us back. I hit up Chappy, my boss and asked for Monday off, he said yes because he is RAD. So up again Monday, more lunches packed and Andy, Jay, Dave , Peter and myself were ready for another day out back.... Check out the Team Old Guy Vid...oh yes there are some funny bails too...

the truth.
the truth is, im totally crazy for you. I broke up with my boyfriend because i dont like him, i dont want him. I want you. And that not really fair to do to him. It's always gonna be you dave. always. thats something thats just not going to change. Ive spent many many days crying my eyes out because the one thing i want, i can never have. I dont know how you truly feel about me, and i probably never will. To me, it seems like you've been playing games with me for the past 2 years. You know ill always come back to you, even when i have an amazing guy. You wants some, just call me cause ill be by you in a second. You have so much power over me its sad. Then new girls come along, forget about me. But when thats over, you come back to me, cause you know ill be here. Im not dumb, if you think i am. I know how it works. I just suck at this game and fall for it everytime. Its a pretty jackass move tho, to play with peoples feelings like you do. I mean what inconsideret a**hole would ever do that to someone, knowing how in love with them they are. Knowing that every night their waiting for him, to call, to text. And every night, they wait and wait.  And every morning when they wake up, nothing. Breaking their heart, slowly, one by one. And in the end, what happens? Absolutly nothing. They spent their whole life waiting, being played, broken hearted, and they never gained a single thing. Just love a hell of a lot. Dave you know damn well that were not just "friends". Were never gonna be and never can be "friends". Cause ill always be in love with you. And you, you'll always just want some from me, cause thats probably all im good for. You'd think id be used to it by now. I guess i am, i know whats gonna happen, and im still in love with you.

I am DaveESPI on many forums.

Ive been riding for 14 years, am classicly trained ( the hard way... Self) and also have 5 years teaching at resorts here in the east coast. I am on my 4th year at Jiminy Peak as an instructor, and my third season in hardboots. I teach in both soft and hard gear. Alpine racing and advanced agressive carve "race" style as well as park and pipe. I am ASSI level 1 certified this year, and have a solid reputation as being a good instructor with the  Snowsports staff @ Jiminy peak.

Anyone interested in lessons, feel free to request me or refer people to the snowsports desk @ jiminy Peak who are in need of lessons, or just want to improve their riding and pinpoint areas of improvement.

I am also available seperately when not working at Jiminy for one on one exclusive lessons at variable rates.

After a short little visit by Chucky and his good buddy Dustin Craven yesterday I learned they picked up some pretty epic impulse tatty's last May.



Under the image of the hand throwing up the peace sign it's written "best summer ever" some how predicting the summer they both eventually experienced. Keep an eye out for the next issue of Updown Magazine for more heart warming stories about friendship in Dustin's "Greasy" little interview by yours truly.

Perry & Louise... Videos videos videos!!!

So Perry calls us up last minute late Wednesday afternoon because Ben's out of town and he wants someone from the office to head over to Boardroom around six that night to do the IS Eyewear PK for him. Steve's out of town, I have plans so Jr.Burger agrees to help out. I help JB "short for Jr.Burger" get stuff ready then leave the office for the day. The next morning I ask JB how it went. So he gives me the run down then starts telling me about Perry's cute little introduction where he kisses JB's ass for saving his day and shi*t talks me & Steve. "JB's a super hard worker... Blah blah blah... I love him so much... Blah blah blah... he's the only person in the who office that actually works... Blah blah blah... Once Scientists figure it out I want to have his Child... Blah blah blah... I can't believe Karl gets paid a salary to do a blog and I don't even know what Steve does over there?" Real nice Perry. Didn't you just get back from a 3 week holiday where you and your buddy Thelma and Louised it across Canada... You poor thing, Couves must really be working you to the bone.. Haha



The IS Video Player is slowly filling up with content. Its pretty cool, you can download video directly to desktops or to mobile devices. I've set up a bunch of channels with more to come. Welcome back to another exciting edition of THE MESSAGE.. da da da DUNNNNN.
Good new snow fiends, We got are first dusting on the Sierra's last week, so lets hope that this will be an early season for all us!  THE BLOCK, THE BLOCK is gearing up for Snowboard Season by sponsoring a bunch of snowboard premieres and parties. I just saw the new First Tracks Video,  Knock on Wood at Mont Bleu, and what a great turnout we had, THE BLOCK was soldout and Flick was dope as all hell! 

Hot Dawgs and Hand Rails

If you missed Hot Dawgs and Handrails last month, you done F@cked-up. ! Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails 5th annual snowboarding specatcular tested the skills of some of the best jumpers and jibbers in the world and paid out $15,000 in prize money!  Rio and the entire Bear Mountain Park Staff pulled off the 1st contest of the year with Grand Style!  The Dropin, The Gap, and the rails were epic and riders were stoked to be throwing down for the first time of the Season! Big props to reelcomp.com for broadcasting a live feed of the event besure to check it out on their website.

J.P Walker, Seth Huot and Hana Beaman were chillin' at Bear and Josh Sherman and Dave Duncan were announcing! If you missed Hot Dawgz this year, we'll see you next September! Big ups to Nam for organizing the afterparty, DJ Slip Matt and Matty Mo held it done hard. If you aint heard Matty Mo got a new mixtape out so be sure to Grab Government Cheese Vol 1. 

THE BLOCK BOOTCAMP 2008

Has been rescheduled to December 1st -13th in South Lake Tahoe. We are selecting 50 lucky recruits from an applicant pool of over 500+ that I received. It has been no easy task going through the applications, so if you were selected congratulations you will be receiving your deployment orders at the end of the week!  Remember that during bootcamp you will be tested to your physical and mental limits. So do yourself a favor and start working out and jogging now. This is not going to be a walk in the park.

Big Bear

October 18th is the last Bear Mountain Job Fair at Snow Summit from 8am-2pm. If you got to ride Bear and cant pass the bootcamp, this is a good option for any shredder.

October 18th and 19th is the 38th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest! So if you missed the job fair you can atleast Drink it off.

October 19th @ Active Ride Shop in Le Brea - F.O.D.T. Presents "Familia"  and TWS These Days from 7-9pm with DJ Episode! Be there!

Wednesday Oct 15th  Technine's own Eric "MessyHair" Messier aka The Snow Man, will be playing with his group "The Fiz" at Whiskey Dicks with The Mathematicians in South Lake Tahoe.

Holy crap.. Did you see that Party Snake teaser yet? If so there's really only been two responses. 1. You loved it and can't wait to see more or 2. You hated it and wish it would die. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground on this on. Check out some of the comments I found on the Gnarcore site.

The doors at Olympic Village Lodge at Squaw Valley opened at 7:30 last night and Standard’s movie AESTHETICA was set to start at 8:30. Fuel TV, a sponsor, was on hand filming and reporting from the event. The Fuel TV reporters for the night were Tina Dixon and Jim Rippey. Other sponsors for the night were Porters Lake Tahoe, VAS Entertainment and Squaw Valley USA. As the clock edged towards show time the line to get in was spreading into the parking lot. Soon a roar of applause erupted from inside Olympic Village Lodge. Show time!

Once inside it was shoulder to shoulder and there was standing room only to watch AESTHETICA. The way that the lodge is laid out gave everyone in every corner a view of Standard’snew movie release. Some highlights of AETHETICA was Johan Olofsson’s part on Burton’s Nofish… he was killing the steep and deeps on this bindingless wonder. Torstein Horgmo part where he had an amazing shot at Homewood Ski resort on the west shore of Lake Tahoe As well as the monster spring jump at Alpine Meadows. Another favorite was Mads Johnsson’s part with plenty of fresh powder and steeps. For the rail junkies there was enough urban shredding to feed that need.

When the AESTHETICA drew to a close people started to migrate outside to a cooler and fresher atmosphere then inside where it was smelly and hot. Many folks left because the 21 and under crowd was not allowed at the after party.

To kick off the second half of the night Fortress came out to melt some faces with some good old metal, Fortress was formed in the early 1990’s in Lake Tahoe melting guitar solos by legendary Dave Hatchett, head banging guitarist Brian Harrison, bass by Mike Hatchett and insane drums by Rob Jaeger… Lights, Camera, Action. A little Priest, Maiden, UfO, Metallica and some Slayer had everyone head banging, crowd surfing and beer drinking. The crowd was hungry and thirsty for more metal and Fortress gave it to them rocking out the standard crowd for a solid hour and a half.
