It's that time again...

That's right. Time for Vancouver's favorite Monday night party to return. This year promises to be one of our best yet. First off we had to say good-bye to the Royal, which shut it's doors in May. Lots of good times were had and we're sad to see it go. On the flip-side we're stoked to have found our new home at the METropole located at 320 Abbott St. They've gone out of their way to make us feel at home by installing a dozen HD TVs and a brand new HD projector and screen. On top that they have a full feature arcade with pool table and foosball.

We were so excited to get this season rolling that we've taken over Mondays already. The Pre-season is going on with no cover charge and $5 doubles so you can get in shape for the winter party season. The freshest beats are calling you to the dancefloor with resident elDJloco on the 1s and 2s.

Stay tuned right here for the latest party info or check us out at our blog:

A touch, A sight, A smell.. However small can often times trigger an explosive memory..

After dance class last night I went out to this bar with a couple of the students.. I don't drink so basically I was there as a DD if one was going to be needed.. Plus I was craving a bit of fun..

There was some dancing.. Lots of gossip.. Lots of laughter.. Fast forward a bit...

I was at the bar waiting for a couple of drinks to bring back as the girls hunted up a table.. I was doing my usual feel the music vibe as I scanned around the crowd.. This guy catches my attention farther down the bar..  As my eyes hit his he holds my look and gives me a smile.. I was about to smile back (as that's my sunny nature) when he pulls on his lip with his teeth and licks it as his eyes drift to my mouth.. Then he looks down at his beer knowing he's been caught staring and day dreaming..

Instantly my mind conjured up the one guy I loved with all my heart.. One of the few guys that knew how I liked to be kissed.. Hard and rough with a bit of bite.. HOLY WOW!  The memory was so vivid I could almost feel his bite..

Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it..

So I basked a minute in my memories.. Then I walked over to my friends who'd made it to a table..

I'm not on the market..

Where is your snowboard made? Some foreign country where all the workers have no idea what snowboarding actually is? In northern Reno NV, in an area where trailer parks abound sits a snowboard factory where a creative evil genius lives. You won’t find any high tech computerized equipment or even security guards protecting the company’s secrets from prying eyes. You will find the type of place where some of the best innovation has always come from… a ghetto garage!

Smokin Jay is an evil genius… not in the crazy axe murdering type way, more the artistic friend you had in school that you weren’t sure where his mind was. Jay was busy gluing one of his new 2010 models when we arrived and as soon as he had a chance to step away he was off and running with the “Factory Tour”. I use the term factory loosely since most of the time you might equate the term Factory to thousands of square feet and a building in an industrial district of town. Smokins factory looks like a cross between an old bomb shelter and chop shop. Inside most of the equipment has been piecemealed together, with bare wires and jays own inventions throughout the building.

Joining on the tour was Jay’s sidekick binky who was just as stoked to show us all the funny corners in the building. While at first glance it looks like a lot stuff packed around stuff but as Binky explains it you can start to see Jay’s twisted vision of how the process works. From the room with all the templates and edges, the room where he cuts out the sidewalls and the workstation that he uses to glue the boards together. And as you watch Jay and Binky work what looks like chaos starts to looks like an interpretive dance where both play off each other though out the entire process.

Smokin Jay takes a huge amount of pride in the boards he produces and each board must be perfect for him to sell it. His entire process feels more artistic than mechanical and each board seems like its own individual masterpiece. He inspects each board for any imperfection or graphic blemish before giving the stamp of approval to sell the board. So when you see the tag handmade you know that the board you are receiving was entirely handmade by Smokin Jay and the pride taken to create the board reflects in the quality of the product you are receiving.

When you get a chance try out a Smokin snowboard, these are quality snowboards made by an evil genius snowboarder who believes in making quality snowboards.

Thank you Jay and Binky for the Great night! check out http://smokinsnowboards.com/ for more info or check out the Smokin Snowboards we carry.

After an hectic pre season I was ready and excited to leave to Austria with my friend Vanessa Andrieux. We go there every year to find good snow condition, I was all packed, board and bags in my trunk and as i was driving back from Barcelona it started dumping everywhere, and by the time i was in Switzerland my home mountains were covered by a good 60cm of fresh snow ! This is when we both decided to join the Demonium base camp in les diablerets (definitely the best place to stay, hang, mini shred and skate up there) and shoot a couple things home before heading to the austrian mountains. We waisted the first day looking for features to shoot along the road and at 12pm, after 3 hours driving around for nothing, we decided to go up on the mountain and shred. luckily the place wasn’t totally tracked yet, I found a couple good friends at the first chair lift, they took me to the good spot and I got chest deep for my first run of the winter !! I can’t remember a better start of the season ever ! sik ! The next day we built a kicker with Eman, Damien, Nico and Tonton not too far from the road in a safe area as avalanche danger was quite high at that time. It was fun to be shaping a kicker already. The snow was deep in the landing, the sun was shining we had a good thermos with hot tea and good meet, cheese, bread and chocolate. Family style ! After that we joined Nicolas Droz in Chatel to get a couple shots, each day we were pushing the austrian destination a bit later and we finally never made it there. That’s when my friend Annie Boulanger called, there was no snow in whistler and she jumped in the plane to come shred with me.. I was so stoked to have her here because I m always the one going to canada or US and for once I got to show my place to a good friend ! as soon as she got off the plane we called Jonas Emery who could eventually give us heads up on the conditions where he was staying.. and we ended up staying at his place for a good 4 days.. We got sik tree runs in still really good snow on our first day and it dumped overnight !! We went to Verbier the next day, same thing, good tree pow runs under the cabin, and the great thing is that no one was on the slopes before christmas ! We joined Emilien Badoux the next day for the same luck with sunshine this time! After that we headed to my home resort with my both of my parents my cousin, my boyfriend and 2 other good friends with whom we shredded all weekend.. It really felt like christmas ! This last couple of weeks were such a blast, I got to practice some Quebecquien expressions, I got to shred for the fun of it which happens very rarely, i got to stay at my grand parents cabin and the conditions were fantastic ! That was definitely my best christmas present this year.. and i wish you just as much fun and good shred !

After a week of consistent snow, the riding here in Whistler is back in business! We're into our 5th week of camp and the second group of long term campers are packing their bags and preparing to hit town as we speak.

Christmas in the camp houses was celebrated in true Whistler style with wine and cheese, pressies, partying in town and of course, Christmas day spent riding on the mountain... how else would you rather spend your holidays?!

We're super stoked that we've been able to take our groups to secret powder stashes on the mountain without getting stuck in long holiday lift lines. Also, now that the upper alpine lifts are staring to open, we're looking forward to some steep pow runs in the bowls and maybe a hike or two for some of the best untracked powder on the mountain. It's that kind of inside local knowledge that means we can ride harder, faster and in deeper pow that anyone else hahaha!

The terrain parks are already starting to look good. The Nintendo Park on Blackcomb has a number of hip, box and rail features and a couple of jumps. As more snow falls we'll begin to see the Terrain Garden (beginner's park) and Higher Level (XL) parks take shape. We're also looking forward to seeing the double rainbow stall feature and dancefloor jibs they're building in the Whistler park using the cable reels from the construction of new Peak to Peak gondola.

It even looks like there's almost enough snow for our first backcountry jump day to be held in a secret location yet to be revealed... can't wait!

Happy New Year form the team at Proride. Hope your new year sounds as exciting as ours!

How consistent is consistent? How soon is now?
Tonight I'm so tired my eyes ache with the sense of falling out of my head. The only thing that really combats this is the touch of that cold winter air. When I feel it against my skin and see those crystal encased trees I can't help but forget human-bonds. Right now, sitting here eating I'm wondering how long I'll be awake, how much I'll get done tonight, and then tomorrow.
Philosophy 111, know your Plato. Most of us are chained to the ground, watching shadows dance upon the wall. Sometimes someone frees us, sometimes we are freed by ourselves. Who will rise from what little comfort they have? Who will rise with the fierce desire to know. Have I?
Those that rise see the fire casting shadows, the puppets being held up. We are all born in a cave. So you travel towards some distant light, knowledge is your guide.
Out of the cave you stumble, disoriented, frustrated, all-a-wonder. The glare of this new discovered realm blinds you, yet a reflection catches your eye. As this newly found sense envelopes you, you see yourself in a pond. Welcome to the real world.
True beauty is your guide now, each and everything from now on will be full of some inner light. For you've seen the source of all life. Your eyes became adjusted to the Sun long ago. Your heart became attuned to the truth of that life-giving orb. A sense of duty overtakes you, so you march back into the cave.

So its Halloween night, and me and my bro Marc are heading up 2 Fairview to go party with our bud Brandon who's doing his Power Engineering at the NAIT campus there. As we where told by our invitee, we need costumes, I was going as Ron Burgundy from Anchorman, Marc was a lumberjack. Brandon was Jail-bait. LoL! SO we get to the On-campus town-house brandon is staying in with his roomies, and the party is in full swing! Brandon is already down a 26 and awesomely drunk. So me and Marc get into character and we head 2 the bar, and easy 10 minute walk from Brandons. So we get 2 the bar and start partying. Me a brandon hit a shot set-up of Tequila and Fire-ball, Brandon walks 2 the bathroom, pukes, and continues 2 party, what a trooper! So the party keeps going till closing time. And all three of us, $100 bucks each poorer and really drunk/danced out. Tried 2 make our way home. (This is where it gets super fuzzy. We three peiced the rest of the night together with what we could remember, and this is what we got.) So we start walking... we get 2 the campus, somewhere in the agriculture area. All of a suppen Marc wants 2 fight due to some guy back home who was say shi*t about his girlfriend. (Chris Gullet, nobody likes this guy. I even want 2 kick his ass.) So brandon says 2 him, that he'll fight him. So they hop some fences and start fighting by the riding sable and cattle pens. Me not seeing this go on or where they went, keep walking and yelling for the 2 of them wondering where the hell they are. So I yell and stumble till I hit a slight incline, and me being drunk fell right into a ditch, face first, full of water. So I am soaking wet, I get out but in the process I lose a shoe. I don't care I just keep on walking till all of a sudden a vehicle comes from behind. Its campus security! The lady inside askes "Are you ok?" I say. "Not Really" She says, "Wanna lift?" and I say, "Yes Please" I get in the back and b4 I know it. I'm right in front of the town house and I didn't even know how 2 get there! lol! SO I go inside and pass out on the coach. Mean while back 2 Marc and Brandon. They're fighting like crazy drunks. Till they stop. Marc it still pist and is kicking and punching shi*t. Meanwhile brandon takes off home ready for bed, losing a shoe also somewhere along the way. Marc is now alone, and is also lost. He calls brandons cell, doesn't pick-up. He calls my cell but I fell in the ditch thus f*cking my phone right up 2 the point that it doesn't work. So he calls his girlfriend in falher which is so worried that she wants 2 drive an hour and a half in the early morning 2 come and find him. LoL! He told her not 2 be silly. and he said he'd find his way eventually. So he gets to the town houses, goes in, up the stairs, opens the door to what he thought was Brandon's room. But he notices that the guy sleeping in Brandons room is not Brandon. Further more its not brandon's room. Its not even his townhouse! Marc went into the wrong house! Than he notices that there is a dog, and it starts barking so Marc gets out of the townhouse without the guy waking up! Lucky! And eventually finds his way 2 the right place. With me on the couch and marc in Brandons bed. Brandon decides 2 sleep on the arm chair. I wake up for a moment to see him in a U shape, from arm to arm. Awesome! But when awake in the morning he is laid out on the kitchen floor. Than I notice under my blanket, I am buck naked! I don't even remember taking them off! So we relive our night laugh about it. Than head out 2 KFC, than watch some women's volley-ball and than go looking for our lost items. The only thing 2 turn up is Marc's Rome Lumberjack Toque. But what an awesome drunk time. Well worth the hundred bucks, the lost shoe, and the broken cell phone. Good times with good friends is never a bad thing, no matter what kind of trouble you get into! LoL!

   Take Off, eh?

Another event for Porters has come and gone but the Burton movie stop in Reno at The Underground will not be forgotten.

On Saturday night there were two showings of Burton's "It's Always Snowing Somewhere", a kiddie show at 7:30 with an autograph signing with Burton team riders, Mason Agguire, Danny Davis, Jussi Oksanen, Heikki Sorsa and Kelly Clark. The kiddies that showed up were totally stoked and walked out of The Underground with huge smiles and a bag of sweet swag.

The doors reopened at 9pm and the 21+ showing was under way. The night kicked off with Shawn Farmer's band Hunks of Metal rocking the roof off. Then our IT guy Josh Hall's band, Cohesion took the stage and threw down one of the tightest sets I have ever heard them play..... you guys rocked! Then the screen dropped down again and the second showing of Burton's "It's Always Snowing Somewhere" was off an running. As it was playing I was working the door... wait I worked the door most of the night, but I digress then the Supersucker fans started to pour in. Most had tickets but many had to pay at the door and when I told them it was $4.99 to get in they were super stoked. Corona was on hand as well supplying FREE Corona to the Porters crew and Burton team riders, as you would probably guess the free beer went fast. As soon as the movie was finished Eddie Spaghetti and the rest of the Supersuckers took the stage and I told the bouncer to let everyone else in for free because I wanted to rock. As always the Supersuckers played a rockin' set, they never disappoint me.

After the Supersuckers finished up their set the crowd thinned as it was like 1:30 am. For those that stuck around they were rewarded with some high strung punk rock from The Dirty Rigs and Anti Panti. Then the bar emptied and I went back to work... taking down banners, stickers and tents. I hope everybody that came out had a freaking awesome time, I know Chris Wilmouth did. Thanks to everyone that helped Trevor and myself, much appreciated.

Hey Mate!! I was at the Oakley Style Wars in Fallscreek  Australia last week.. I had tons of Fun there! great parties at the Silver Ski Lodge with the whole Epic crew! I got to see my old friend PC from the Epic book.. runs in the gum trees, watch Travis’ movie.. I was hosting the contest for the web.. which was kind of funny.. I had tons of fun at the parties! we have seen some water spitting, beer fights, and even some wrestling at some point.. all in a fun party mood in the Aussie way. A that we improvised a trip to Torquay on the way down and went surfing, the water was freezing cold, but it was fun to catch a couple waves..

After the surfing, I joined the 2 Kristis ( Leskinen skier, and KT the Oakley marketing girl in Australia). We flew Sydney, ate some kanguru, did a couple PR stuff there with Alpha magazine and Sports Tonight Australia. I pet a koala and flew to New Zealand.. we spent the first day in Auckland for some more interviews for Sunrise (TV), Curl magazine, Sports Tonight NZ (TV), couple radio stations, and last but not least, we got on the Sports Cafe show hosted by some of the All Blacks (NZ national heroes).. they started asking us some tricky questions when a streaker jumped out of the public and shaked it right before my eyes on live national TV!! I was quite stoked to be there when that happened

anyways got to Queentsown the next day for the Oakley Chicks day out! which took place in Snowpark with another 50 girls.. the sun was shining and the park was super good, we shred together all day, i tryed to give them a couple tips, and we all rode back together to queenstown in a very loud busride. At night we all went for a bootie shake at the subculture bar where our friend RIA was DJing.. she killed it! she played tons of funk, which i love and we all danced all night.. and now I m tired and ready to go back to Euroland!

Thanks to Oakley and thanks tons to KT for organising this trip! thanks to all the girls for coming shredding with us, see you all next year!

This is gonna be one helluva show.....

PortersTahoe.com, Burton Snowboards, Corona, Transworld Snowboarding, Alpine Meadows, Ubisoft, Sobe and the Supersuckers are teaming up on the evening of Saturday, October 25th at The Underground club on 555 East 4th Street in downtown Reno, Nevada to present the Burton Team movie It’s Always Snowing Somewhere. A 7pm all-ages, free showing will be followed at 9pm by a $4.99 cover for a 21-and-over premier of the movie and after-party featuring the Supersuckers. Tickets for the second, 21+ screening are available online HERE or at any of Porters’ four North Lake Tahoe shop locations.

The movie It’s Always Snowing Somewhere follows the Burton Team traveling the northern hemisphere, from Austria to Alaska. It features action footage from Shaun White, Terje Haakonsen, Natasza Zurek, Gigi Rüf, JP Solberg, Heikki Sorsa, Nicolas Müller, Tadashi Fuse, Frederik Kalbermatten, Jeremy Jones, Jussi Oksanen, DCP, Mads Jonsson, Trevor Andrew, Keegan Valaika, Kevin Pearce, Danny Davis, Kazuhiro Kokubo, Mikkel Bang, Mikey Rencz and Peetu Piiroinen.

There are only ten other screenings of the movie across the country, and this will be the only showing anywhere in Northern California or Nevada this year. The first 100 people at the family-friendly, all-ages, free showing at 7pm sharp will receive a free lift ticket voucher to Alpine Meadows Resort and a free tour stop t-shirt. An autograph session will follow at 8pm with Burton Snowboards team riders Jussi Oksanen, Danny Davis, Kevin Pearce, Mason Aguirre, Heikki Sorsa, and Kelly Clark scheduled to appear. Doors open at 9pm for the 21+ movie and after party. Tickets are $4.99 in advance and this is expected to be a sold out show.

Local Tahoe bands Cohesion and Hunks of Metal will play before the second showing of the movie. Hunks of Metal feature early pioneers and legends of snowboarding such as Terry Kidwell, Shawn Farmer, and Bob Klein. When asked to play at the event Bob said, “Who has a chance to open for not only the Supersuckers, but a world class snowboard movie as well? We’re looking forward to rocking the Underground for the first time, hopefully not the last, unless we get too drunk and rowdy!” Immediately after the 11pm screening of It’s Always Snowing Somewhere the greatest live rock ‘n roll band in the world – Supersuckers – will take the stage for a rowdy and raucous set. More local bands are scheduled to finish the late night / early morning in the back lounge room while The Underground’s resident DJ will spin the rest of early morning in the main showroom.

After Spending a winter in Whistler and then doing some traveling in Asia I have decided to come back to Sun Peaks for the 08/09 season. Trust me when I say that Whistler IS everything that it is hyped up to be. While living there, I was working at a board shop and my schedule revolved around riding. I was riding 4 to 5 times a week. I got the chance to shred the kind of powder that I had previously only dreamt of.

However, there was a downside to all of this. After years of shredding Sun Peaks, I had grown accustom to the laid back atmosphere and there is very little attitude. Then I arrive in Whistler and am faced with hordes of "Bros"all trying to "out Bro" each other in terms of attitude, fashion and connections in town.  For most of the snowboarders I met in Whistler, Snowboarding was secondary. They were more concerned with retarded shi*t like: where you were partying tonight, which bartenders you know, who you saw in the lift line, who you rode up the chair with....are my pants tight enough?.....is my Tall-Tee long enough? I felt like people were so busy trying to look the part that they were forgetting the most important part.....actually snowboarding!

I truly felt that these people did not LOVE snowboarding the way that I did. I felt that they were in love with the image of snowboarding and the perceived lifestyle of the "Hardcore" rider.

So this winter I'll be living in Kamloops and shredding Sun Peaks on a regular basis. And I am really looking forward to riding with people whos' main concern isn't fashion or who you know, but rather just going out and having fun on your snowboard...period.

The first snow fall has come and gone and so comes the waiting game.  As i watch the snow creep up and down the mountains and then dissapear entirely only to reappear a few days later, I start to get that excited 'winter is coming' feeling. But at the same time, I am looking back on this amazing summer, and am not sure i really want it to end.

For one thing, I am finally getting to be more daring on my bike.  I have been trying new runs in the Bike park, and getting faster on my cross-country runs. I am conquering little fears and am feeling a lot more comfortable on my bike.. thanks largely to Owen's amazing teaching skills, Bexx's ability to push me to go faster and further, and Ben being there for me to try to chase down the hill.  Plus living in whistler doesn't hurt... a few times when i'm coming down the slopes and someome faster catched up (which always happens) i usually shout back that I'll move left at the next stretch to tlet them pass.... i usually get a no worries, and a 'bend your knees more' 'softer elbows' etc.   It's amazing how helpful everyone is! yesterday as I was stuck, yet again, on a ladder, i said sorry for being in the way  as i tried to get me and my bike out of some guys way, and he was like, we all learn sometime, keep it up and have fun with it.  Why doesn't every sport have this sort of encouragement and friendship from strangers? Plus the fact that it is super exciting and a huge rush, I am totally hooked. Great, another expensive sport.

I am however looking forward to taking some of my new found courage and taking it to my snowboarding. I cannot wait to hit some pow and try some new things.  It had been a while since I challenged myself, and this is what i needed. Sure some days i come home hurt, bruised and bashed up, but crazy as it sounds, i feel more alive after it.

so, i guess it's time to start the snow dance.  And Mother Nature, if you want to skip fall and head straight to winter, I think i'm okay with that!  just wait until the 13th when the bike park closes ;)

SNOWBOARDERS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CHILD SEX SLAVERY

Wouldn’t it be rad if you could help make someone else’s life better by doing something you love? While you’re out shreddin, making turns and having a good time with your friends, someone’s life is making a turn for the better. We have come up with something pretty epic and it’s called the ZION POP Program (People of the Planet). The POP Program is people driven and is all about Social Justice. We have made it our mission to help out our fellow humans who have been dealt a bad hand. This is the part of ZION Snowboards that we call “serious fun.” There are some hardcore issues happening in our world and we thought it would be rad to involve  core snowboarders in making a difference. With the POP program we will be donating 10% of the sale of our participating products to charities that help make people’s lives better. Cool thing is - you can do this while you’re doing your switch backside 10’s or Tindy’s!

ZION is stoked to announce that our first partnership for the POP Program will be the Ratanak Foundation! ZION will be donating 10% of the sale of POP Products sold in our Flagship Online Shop to the Ratanak Foundation's New Song Project. The New Song Project is dedicated to

fighting child sex trafficking in Cambodia. We had a chance to meet up with Brian - the Founder of the Ratanak Foundation and we literally had our jaws on the floor after hearing about what was going on in the brothels of Cambodia with children as young as 5 years old. These children are being violated 10-20 times a day for a cost of 2 dollars per customer. Young virgins however, can go for up to five hundred dollars because customers that have AIDS believe they will be cured if they have sex with a virgin. You can imagine the devastation that this brings. The New Song Project is all about rescuing these children and rehabilitating them so that they can learn what if means to be a normal human being. The children that are rescued are brought to a top secret, high security location where they are in rehab for about 2 years. They are taught to be children again - most of them do not know what being a child is - they never got the chance. This stuff is not a cake walk - this is secret mission James Bond and Chuck Norris kind of stuff because the children need to be extracted from the brothels and pimps and then secretly brought to a safe location. As you can imagine the pimps do not want to lose their "product" so this is a very dangerous job for the rescuers whose lives are at risk every time they do a rescue operation.

The goal of the ZION Snowboards POP Program is to put as big a dent as possible into the beast of child sex slavery. Partnering up with the Ratanak Foundation is going to change children’s lives one at a time and give them a chance to be normal humans after everything has been brutally stripped from them.

ZION is a company founded and run by snowboarders. Our office is the mountain and the only suits we wear to work are snowsuits. We hope that building boards with maximum fun factor, offering products that set you apart at your local scene, and involving you in making other people’s lives better will get you stoked on ZION.
