So its Halloween night, and me and my bro Marc are heading up 2 Fairview to go party with our bud Brandon who's doing his Power Engineering at the NAIT campus there. As we where told by our invitee, we need costumes, I was going as Ron Burgundy from Anchorman, Marc was a lumberjack. Brandon was Jail-bait. LoL! SO we get to the On-campus town-house brandon is staying in with his roomies, and the party is in full swing! Brandon is already down a 26 and awesomely drunk. So me and Marc get into character and we head 2 the bar, and easy 10 minute walk from Brandons. So we get 2 the bar and start partying. Me a brandon hit a shot set-up of Tequila and Fire-ball, Brandon walks 2 the bathroom, pukes, and continues 2 party, what a trooper! So the party keeps going till closing time. And all three of us, $100 bucks each poorer and really drunk/danced out. Tried 2 make our way home. (This is where it gets super fuzzy. We three peiced the rest of the night together with what we could remember, and this is what we got.) So we start walking... we get 2 the campus, somewhere in the agriculture area. All of a suppen Marc wants 2 fight due to some guy back home who was say shi*t about his girlfriend. (Chris Gullet, nobody likes this guy. I even want 2 kick his ass.) So brandon says 2 him, that he'll fight him. So they hop some fences and start fighting by the riding sable and cattle pens. Me not seeing this go on or where they went, keep walking and yelling for the 2 of them wondering where the hell they are. So I yell and stumble till I hit a slight incline, and me being drunk fell right into a ditch, face first, full of water. So I am soaking wet, I get out but in the process I lose a shoe. I don't care I just keep on walking till all of a sudden a vehicle comes from behind. Its campus security! The lady inside askes "Are you ok?" I say. "Not Really" She says, "Wanna lift?" and I say, "Yes Please" I get in the back and b4 I know it. I'm right in front of the town house and I didn't even know how 2 get there! lol! SO I go inside and pass out on the coach. Mean while back 2 Marc and Brandon. They're fighting like crazy drunks. Till they stop. Marc it still pist and is kicking and punching shi*t. Meanwhile brandon takes off home ready for bed, losing a shoe also somewhere along the way. Marc is now alone, and is also lost. He calls brandons cell, doesn't pick-up. He calls my cell but I fell in the ditch thus f*cking my phone right up 2 the point that it doesn't work. So he calls his girlfriend in falher which is so worried that she wants 2 drive an hour and a half in the early morning 2 come and find him. LoL! He told her not 2 be silly. and he said he'd find his way eventually. So he gets to the town houses, goes in, up the stairs, opens the door to what he thought was Brandon's room. But he notices that the guy sleeping in Brandons room is not Brandon. Further more its not brandon's room. Its not even his townhouse! Marc went into the wrong house! Than he notices that there is a dog, and it starts barking so Marc gets out of the townhouse without the guy waking up! Lucky! And eventually finds his way 2 the right place. With me on the couch and marc in Brandons bed. Brandon decides 2 sleep on the arm chair. I wake up for a moment to see him in a U shape, from arm to arm. Awesome! But when awake in the morning he is laid out on the kitchen floor. Than I notice under my blanket, I am buck naked! I don't even remember taking them off! So we relive our night laugh about it. Than head out 2 KFC, than watch some women's volley-ball and than go looking for our lost items. The only thing 2 turn up is Marc's Rome Lumberjack Toque. But what an awesome drunk time. Well worth the hundred bucks, the lost shoe, and the broken cell phone. Good times with good friends is never a bad thing, no matter what kind of trouble you get into! LoL!

   Take Off, eh?

The 4 annual Jibassic Pro Invitational went down last Saturday night, and the riding was better then ever. Porters team riders Brandon Cocard and Chaz Guldemond dropped some heavy 270's in three different directions. Johnny Lazz had some awesome boarding, but was taken out by a heavy fall later in the competition, and Johnny Brady also had an immaculate backside 180 on to cab 360 out on the rail feature. Forrest Baily produced some awesome combinations on the down rail. And holding it down for the ladies was Jessie with a mean backside lipslide down the rail. All in all the event was a success, with Andrew Brewer taking first with his smooth style and well executed manuevers including a frontboard same way 270 to 5-0. Judge Sean Carney said " The riding was higher quality then the Vans Cup."

What is the hardest thing about Snowboarding the first day of the year?  Putting down the board and taking pictures. The mood was epic on the afternoon of the 11th, boards and shovels in hand we embarked on a journey that would bring friends of all types and styles together.  While most kids were playing video games and sleeping in we were playing in the snow that friday nights storm left for us.  Matty McInnis, Chris Bartowski and I headed up there around 11 and met up with the heavy hitting crew including Brandon Cocard, Nick Visconti, Joshua Parker, Niki, Brandon Dury, Who, Brandon Hays, Andrew Brewer and RV. Check out these photos from our long trip to our patch somewhere above the greater Reno/Carson City area.

Porters Sports
Brandon, Leif, Brett & Merwin

Before I left for X, I was invited to shoot A DIY Super Duper Backwoods Park Courtesy of Brandon Cocard & friends. Brandon had told me what he had been constructing and I was super excited to see what was going to be there. I won't disclose the location but, all I can say is, sweet! I felt like I was 15 again. It was a genuine park made with blood, sweat & tears for pure snowboard enjoyment. I had blown it though, I didn't bring my own stick. :( Hanging out with these guys made me feel young again, it remimded me of when I used to go to the snowparks in the Central California Mountains and build kickers to flat! Hell yes!.....Glory days! Yeah they'll pass you by! So get on it and build your own park. A few shovels, good bros and some imagination, you'll be in snowboard heaven! No lift tickets & ski patrol to f$%^ with you.

Sierra at Tahoe March 10, 2007

Spring is in full effect!  It seems like we’ve really only had 1 week of winter but the weather this past weekend sure was nice. It set a great stage for the Planet Earth Shop Wars in the Alley Terrain Park for Nor-Cal shops to show their stuff.

The 3 categories for the contest:
                      1.    Big Air
                      2.    Quarter Pipe
                      3.    Rail

Winner takes all in the 3 categories for $1000.00 cash.  In the Big Air comp it was a two- man battle between Boards n Motion’s Shane Reed and Porters’ Brandon Cocard.  Shane was cabing it out with cab 5’s and 10’s.  Brandon was showing a bag full of tricks: front 7’s, back 7’s, backside rodeos and switch backside 9’s all stomped to perfection with not even a hand drag or sketch.

In the QP no one really got they’re groove on until late into the jam.  Kyle “Taquito” Earl was throwing down huge backside rodeos all during practice but couldn’t find his line until after the time 45-minute time limit was up.  Porters’ Zak Shelhamer landed a nice frontside 9, but then was shown up immediately by Shane Fortier with his own version of a front 9 that was bigger and more corked.

In the Rail Jam it was a showdown between Sierra at Tahoe’s one-man squad Danny Ryan and Porters’ Silas Stannard.  I don’t even know how to explain the tricks that they were doing.  Rail tricks have gotten so techy as of late I don’t know what to call the moves.  But it was “captain tight pants” Danny Ryan in the end to take the cash defeating last years champ Silas.

The deliberations took quite a while.  It seems like we were sitting around for an hour before we got the results.  The toughest and most controversial finish was in the Big Air between Shane and Brandon…Who should take it a cab 10 that was jerky or a smooth switch backside 9?  This has been a debatable question even at pro level contests…but as history has already shown…spin to win.  Shane got the cash.

The top 2 teams got an invite to the Shop Wars finals at Windells in Oregon this summer.
                      1st- Boards n Motion
2nd tie between Porters and Eastern Boarder

I’ll be giving an update as soon as Planet Earth gives us the details on our invite.  All in all it was a great contest and a good day of fun in the sun.  I even got to do a few laps myself. After the contest the boys and I decided to get some work done and shoot some photos to make their sponsors happy.  We found a section to get jibby and had a good time.  Photos will hopefully be up for you soon…sponsors and editors have dibs first.

Memorable quotes of the Day:

I’ve made more money judging this year than I have from my snowboarding- Jimi Tomer

Jumping is fun, but it is much more fun on a perfectly shaped booter built by park artist Eric Rosenwald. Boreal Ridge hosted G4 TV’s The Block reality series sponsored by Bataleon Snowboards, PortersTahoe.com and Scurvy Bastards. Once again in last minute Scurvy fashion we did not receive the top-secret location until three days before the event. Through word of mouth 14 riders were there to represent. Brandon Cocard, Chris Bosco and Silas Stannard represented the Porters team. Bobby Witty could not attend due to the “burger incident” the day before at Alpine.

Brandon Cocard. Frontside 3 Lein.

It was a 1hour and 15 min jam session with the top five receiving prizes. The winner received $500 in singles, which would be wisely spent in the “Biggest Little City in the World”. We could call Binky’s girl to see if she was the lucky one and came up $500 richer.

Chris Bosco. Backside 180

The shredding began with lots of “tail” grabs and plenty of “stale” fishes. However, there was a TINDY sighting performed by Mr. Kyle Earl, you lose points for that one but Damien Sanders would be proud. A beanie went down on a 1080 but no need to worry it was saved from an icy grave. The size of the jump allowed contestants to perform many whirly birds and ninja like maneuvers. Ahh! All black ninja! Since the jump was at the top of the mountain the long chair ride back allowed for Binky to get his commentary on. Which was quite colorful! Binky is the man. Dingo you suck! Happy B-day Dingo!

Frontside 720.

In the end Dan Pitbladdo walked with the $500 in singles, a Bataleon Snowboard, and a sick Porters Sk8 deck. Kyle Earl and Brandon Cocard each walked with a Bataleon snowboard and Sk8 deck. Fourth place winner Silas Stannard was stoked out with a FREE night stay at the Block courtesy of Liko and Joseph. The fifth place winner was also stoked out with a FREE night at the Block. Sorry dude I forgot your name, send me an email.

Binky with the $500.00 Cash in singles. Gonna make a lucky dancer happy!

The next event is the final one and is TBA. I will put a post up if you want to come and check out the event. The invited riders will be going up against some invited pros (TBA) to see if they got what it takes to become a pro shredder.

Porters Team Manager
Eric Asistin

Results:
1. Dan Pitbladdo
2. Kyle Earl
3. Brandon Cocard
