This weekend my really good friend Jay came in from NYC, and we kicked his ass. I picked him up at the airport at 11:41 am on Friday by 2:00 we were in the backcountry taking hot laps with Andy Spotts and Peter Tankersley. By nightfall we were tired and went home. Up Saturday morning with the sleds gassed up, lunches packed and a new tape in the camera, we headed out again. We met up with Josh Hall and Dave Harabedian and went full throttle making turns and shuttling on the sleds. Sunday was an on hill day at Squaw, what a trip I have been in the backcountry all season, that was my first day at the resort this year. Squaw was fun, but the backcountry was calling us back. I hit up Chappy, my boss and asked for Monday off, he said yes because he is RAD. So up again Monday, more lunches packed and Andy, Jay, Dave , Peter and myself were ready for another day out back.... Check out the Team Old Guy Vid...oh yes there are some funny bails too...

April 22, 2008 I wake up and look at my clock which sais 1:00 PM Whao, how did I sleep till one, and how come my mom didn’t give me crap for sleeping so long? is the first thing that comes to mind. Then my mom walks in and starts rambullshi*ting about how the breaker jumped and i have to many things plugged in. So I go to the kitchen to check the time, turns out it was just 9:48  So I set my clock, then the phone rings. After a short chat on the phone my mom sais “ Dad called he’s coming with the tractor go shovel the decks.” It had finally stopped snowing after about three days of heavy snowing. I didn’t think there would be very much snow, but when I walk out I found myself waddling in two foot tall drifts all the way down the side walk. Once I got to the garage I was standing beside a 5 foot tall drift of snow. Haha, winters back! I think I was the only one who though this big dump of snow was awesome, everyone else was like damn it. While shoveling the snow I take a quick look at my hill in the back yard, sweet there enough snow on it to shred so I make up my mind to go hit it after I was done. Work then play, so I finish up, get my gear and walk to the hill. My little sis and bro were following me but they had to stop since the snow was so deep my little sis couldn’t  get though. So I get to the hill and it turns out that there’s only snow on half of it, so I only had half a hill to shred, but it made it easier to walk up. Once on top and strapped in I head down and get stopped by a big drift. Well that was lame. I go back up and try it again, this time I make it down and hit my little blue barrel.  Then I see my bro coming back and he sais “The snow is so deep you could do like back flips and not get hurt!” I then decided to build a jump and try. So I unstrapped and head out in search for something to build a jump with. (since the last time I built a jump with just snow it was tiny, and took for ever to make.) We look around for a bit and see nothing. So we decide to start building the jump anyway. On the way I spot some bails, perfect!  My bro sais “there some right by the hill we just have to dig them out.” We find the bails no problem. Three square bails made up the base of our jump, we piled snow on it for about an hour and my bro was tired and cold so he went in. I finished up the jump, then pushed and packed the snow in a line down to the jump. Every time I looked back there was always something that needed fixing, but I was starving so I had to go in. Right when I get to the door I see my brother standing there with a grilled cheese and ham sandwich in his hand. He sais “I was brining you some food!” What a sweet little bro lol. But I had already taken my boots off, so I went in and had some soup with my sandwich. It was past two when I got in. Around 3:00 my brother and I headed back out to try out the jump. I walk up, hit the jump and don’t even get enough speed to get over it. I try again, and same thing is repeated. So we shave down a little bump, that I had made to help me go faster, but it just slowed me down. I hit it again and got over, but I just drop of the end. We do an bunch more trial and error, then we get called in by my mom. I didn’t even get a good jump in and it was already supper time. The next day I’m determined to fix the jump. I look around the yard to try and think of something. I walked over to my little sisters fisher price slide, and get an idea. I take the slide part off, and haul the base (Which is 4ish feet tall, 2ish feet wide and 3ish feet long.) to the top of the hill. I packed it down, cover the top in snow and tadah, a steeper hill! I get up, strap in and drop. Problem fixed! I hit it a few more times, go in for supper, then go back out till dark. The next day, my big sistah tried it out. After about 5 minutes of saying “Omg your retarded, who would build such a thing? Are you serious? Your on crack!” she hit the jump. She then hit it a bunch more times. After I convinced her to give me my board back, she made me jump over her. Crazy gurl! The first two times I bailed, I was sure something stupid would happen. But I finally got over it and jumped over her no prob…so I did it again lol. Then she jumped over me, I’ll admit it was a little bit scary! And the day was over. Even though the hills are shut we still shred!

So I wake up on the 24th to the song "Life In The Fast Lane" by The Steve Miller Band. My dad is obviously up and started on the renovations upstairs. Me being the stylish one preferred to sleep in but my dad had other plans. "Fix the table saw, do the electrical, than we need to set in the counter top on the island." he says to me as I lay mindless in my bed. So I get up and do my First 2 jobs with little problems. Its about +2 outside and raining with a bit of snow mixed in. Its shi*tty. So we get around to the counter top and it takes us 4 hours to get it just right. but in those 4 hours the weather got cold and the rain turned to straight snow. It fell heavy and I knew the gang was setting something up at Alicia's Farmhouse so I grab my jib gear, my light and my generator and head on out. Its only a 5 min. drive 2 Alicia's but the weather had changed so much that, add in my Ford Taurus-waggons bald tires, I missed almost every turn! It took more along the lines of 15 mins! So I FINALLY get there and its snowin' like crazy. So they take me out to the jib and there it is, A tabletop built with a six pack of straw-bails and snow pushed up by a tractor with a blade on the front. Its not huge, about 15 feet (gap) from lip-to-landing. I'm totally not prepared for it. A quad tow-in, need Goggles and Bandanna with a thicker jacket. Where are they, you ask? AT HOME! So I jump back in my car, it snowed an inch since I got there! So I go back home and grab my shi*t. I'm heading back and what do ya know, I can't make it up my hill! Theres to much snow for my bald tires to get through, so I do a Slow-mo Rockford And header home. I get to the bottom of the hill at my driveway, I miss it completely and hit the ditch on the far side. So I walk down my kilometre-long drive way back to my house to collect the posse and get my waggon unstuck. So we get it unstuck, and I, feeling defeated by the weather and unable to jib I unloaded my stuff. Just when I thought all hope of having a fun weekend jib was lost, Marc calls me up, I tell him my situation and he says "Don't worry I'll come and get you, we shall jib even if it kills us!" and I say "OK" so he picks me and my gear up in Alicia's dad's Dodge Crew cab Diesel and off we go to the jib. So we get there and we set up the lighting for the jump and footage taking. We use 2 halogen lights hooked up to the generator, plus tractor and truck lights. As we get into the sesh, Marc pulls a 3 followed by a Backflip-180, almost lands it but... Woaw! That hangs a few jaws. That cranks the gnar up a notch! So Curtis (New-schooler Skier, our only skier buddy) starts throwing Backflips and Lincolns (He didn't land much but it was awesome to watch!) So I step up, method, and Slow 180 didn't stick either. Than I go for a frontflip, I get invert and.... BANG!!! LANDING!!! I stick it.... Directly on my head! Man that hurt! I still have neck pains. So I go 1 more time, lookin' for a 540 but as luck would have it I catch a funny edge and air totally off the jump, crashing down beside the landing, narrowly missing the shovels and boards lying there. Man, I'm lucky! So the night ends around 12:30ish, we go inside and go over the footage before we hit the sac. And as always, there is a lack of beds, so me and Curtis buddy up and share a double, and we are not small people. We awake to the site of whiteness coming in through the window. Its still snowing. Alot. Curtis stole all the blankets during the night and even had enough audacity to throw one on the ground instead of giving it to me. What a jerk! Its about noon and we are about to go jib when Curtis's mom shows up to bring him to a buddies to go hit up a Metal Show, so we're down one jibber. So we head out, hit it up and end it with a group hug and frozen fingers. A fine jib for the weekend. Marc drops me off at the top of my Valley because I know for a fact that the weather has turned it into "The Pit of No Return." So after I guide him in his 18 point turn, we say our goodbyes as he disappears into the blizzardy darkness, I make my way down on a blind shred to my house. I hike my driveway, get inside the porch and I eat some pizza. The Perfect way to end a Perfect weekend. Thanks Winter, so far so good.

My Journal: Bailed
By: Boulamania

Yea so I'm shreddin park by myself just doin laps airin jumps just tryin new grab variations cause the landings were super hard shredin away havin a good time meet up with my buddy Jody start shrddin do a lap then on the net lap I decide to change it up on the hip, and do a corkd fs handplant Boula original except I have been working on makin them way bigger so I figured I would try to pick up here I left off, I really ddn't think to much of it.

So I'm headin to the hip with a good amount of speed for the launch and the faster I go the better timing I will need Well It jst wasn't there I was a lil late missed my hand on the lip which is cool cause I want to be able to do a corkedfs 5 off soon totally doable but it has to be one or the other not an in between. So I reachin for the lip in the air totally upside down and stretched out, meaning my rotation is stalled completely well I fall straight out of the Air god dammit. try to break some of the fall by sticking out my hand landing into a handstand my handcrumble under the weight but definetely save my neck, My goggles made ard contact with the snow. Came out of it with just a bloodied nose and a few punnie scratch. Thanks you to the park attendant for the tissues, she was mega cute aswell. Lived to tryit again.

6 am alarm clock goes off, get up get shi*t ready drink coffee make some calls and were off to westbank, chris mike hill and mike dean and me, about 9 were all setup to hit this rail, and so it begins, I guinea piiiig the bitch and it turns out well, so we shred, after a few hits mike bails but he's aight, we shred for a while and then I bail and smash my head and break my helmet, so I'm done for the day i guess, mike hits it a few more times and we end the day there... so we thought, heading back to penticton we stop for some photos, turns out there's some rails onto the beach, yea dude!, so we sesh those for a bit. and then head back to penticton.

So the other day my best friend Dave is delivering pizza in his pos pontiac firefly...I think this was a snow day a few days back..anyways..its all good until he's coming towards this busy intersection up in rocky ridge, then when he tries to slow down and stop he can't since the car has completely bald tires..always has...so he lays on the horn to warn all these other cars ripping by at 60 that he cant stop..no one seems to notice so 15 or so metres before the intersection he just unstraps and bails out! I guess he hit the ground rolling since he was doing a little over 30 at this time he figures..so he ghost rides the whip through the intersection and no one hits it..then he runs and catches up to it..gets in and keeps going! Some guy who saw the whole thing rolled by him on when he was running after the car and said "Looks like you better get yourself some winter tires there Stallone".
Well done Dave!
He has since sold me said car for 5 dollars...Im getting winter tires for it and hopefully dont have to Stallone it ever again.

My Blog: to this day...

Hey all, the leaves are falling, the sweaters and jackets are beginnin to come out and all that means the colder it gets the snow is on its way. I cannot wait for my 2006/2007 season as i have goals planned out and gunna make it a great time. Recently i have just moved to Ottawa, Ontario to get an Edu-ma-cation! Also chose the area as some hills are close by and programs at the school for me to join for riding! Missin my boys up at home who i would skate with and ride with and havent really met that many people who ride, well i have actually and they all stoked to ride but not as stoked as my friends and i would b right now! My friends made the paper for having a summer set up jib at a small hill and a 10 foot rail which is fun to get your snowboard jitters satisfied somewhat and dust off the old skills and be ready for the season. Cant wait to ride boys this Thanksgiving, goin to b jacked and pushin myself hard!

My friend up in New Zealand, Maia is killing it up there and 1 lucky girl who gets to ride all year round because she travels to canada to visit family and pretty much follow the snow and i cant wait to see her again and ride with her and see how much she progressed! One of these soon years i gotta get up there Maia and kill it with you all year round! Hope your having fun and killing it and representin hard!

Well im on here just gunna update the world on how i am.  Im lovin the University experience as its so much freedom, do what i want, chill when i want, live how i want and allowin me to grow up and learn the skills of living that i will use forever! Met some cool cool people who i will be gettin a house with most likely next year and have a good time. School is sinkin in with me and takin up my time and im workin out now to GET BIG, BUFF AND TUFF haha kidding but to stay in shape and make my body stronger and ready for my bails.  Miss my friends back home who i wish could be here with me and experiencing this new life of mine and meetin all the people i know! Mainly i just want to snowboard really bad and aaaaaaaaa it hurts me that i still gotta wait when i dont want to at all, i just wanna ride and get it over with, from the people i met this year so far they all want to go jibbin and ride and i will learn a lot most likely from them and develop my riding, im goin to push myself finally and giver and see where snowboarding will take me and also mainly have fun and just ride but get er done at the same time. I have a few good goals for me set up and others to help push me and get me back out there riding hard.

I made a sponser tape as well last year but when it came down to sendin it away, i just realized that it wasnt showing what i could do at all! It was just me doing the safe tricks i always do cuz i can do them first try and didnt show how i was or even what my main potential is so i held it back, if you wanna view it go www.youtube.com/gmonay18 and that will there. Tricks werent just there and didnt show wut i could do with my riding or how i am as a person so i held it back.

Well i hope you all didnt get bored readin this entire thing as i now realize it was quite a lot and wooooooooooooooo long haha so leave a msg, add some karma to here, lets get riding soon and have a good season!

Miss my boys back home and hope you all enjoy the year and welcome at my place anytime to ride and hang out!

PINEWSKI'S RAIL JAM
July 29th, 2006
Minnesota

For the third year in a row the crew at Pinewski’s in Anoka, MN felt the need to give back to our snow community by putting together another blazing summer snowboard rail session. Doug and the guys with FreshTip Design along with Pinewski’s brought us the largest amateur jib contest setup ever to hit the Midwest.

The ledge / handrail setup was up to par with the likes of the High Roller Rail Jam in Vegas, the Boost Mobile Pro in Chicago or even any of Mammoth’s epic village rail jams. Along with the help from sponsors, some of which included DC, Nomis, Rome, Smith, Ride and Oakley, Fans, Kooks, Groms and Bros all seemed to be having a great time.

Regardless of 100 degree plus temperatures and scorching sun, riders still got busy and put on a wild show of jibs, bonks, presses, tweaks and bails. Jake Olsen-Elm slaughtered the handrail while Colin Tucker got down on the double ledge. Pat Campro threw down a couple of bangers, but in the end Alex “The Rush” Ulyankin and his crazy combos filled his pockets with 800 bones and a cool first place finish. Congrats to all the shredders who came out to climb the 40 plus foot structure and throw themselves down a gnarly ledge / handrail setup for our viewing pleasure.

Minus the intense heat and a major “donkey dick” that seemed to be the talk of the day, this event was one for the books. Doug and his crew took this whole “snowboard rail jam” idea to the next level. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a whole new standard in midwestern snowboard events.

RESULTS:

Alex Ulyankin – 1st
Jake Olsen-Elm – 2nd
Pat Campro – 3rd
Colin Tucker – 4th

This was an awesome day July 29th 2006. The sun was shining, the heat index was in the 100's, and it was as humid as a swimming pool locker room, this was the perfect combo for some down home midwest snowboarding, complete with the 20foot tall bails of hay if you over shot the ledge.

Fresh Tip Design and Doug Fresh had been working late into the night to get this monstrosity of a rail set up together. Over the weeks they had poured their hearts and souls into making this thing a reality with lots of dedicated manhours. Rising 40 feet above the scorching hot parking lot of Pinewski's in Anoka,MN was one of the largest rail/ledge combos ever to call the midwest home.

Midwest signal rider Jake Olson-Elm took home the $400 dollar second place prize purse. Matt Hammer, Dave Lee, and Stephen Meyer were on hand to stoke the riders out on the word of signal Snowboards. One lucky rider from the Zombie board shop in Burnsville, MN walked away that day with a snowboard personally given to him by Matt Hammer, just because the kid was so genuine and nice. The support for a summer event of this magnitude was overwhelming and is just proof of the dedication of the midwest's love of this sport that we call snowboarding.

well........where do i start......we wrapped up the first contract of tree planting, a freakin 8  long hard days in a row and moved camp out of the middle of the bush to the base of Mt. Bauldy ski hill just 15min outside of Thunder Bay. Sweet!! Wow, those weeks were by far the most intense weeks I've ever lived. First it was the freezing cold and snow, then cold and rain, which personally I think is worse because everthing is wet all the time......ahhh good nights sleep in a cold damp sleeping bag, who needs sleep anyways........then the BUGS!!! Holy shi*t!  Never in my life have i experienced something of this magnitude. and to top things off we had a whole posse of bears roaming around camp all night long......right in and around all the tents.....craziness.  I don't seem to mind the bears though.......the funniest was they put up this solar powered electric fence around tent city,  i don't think it would have even worked on sheep. Hahaha.  planting is hilarious as well......its a full on obstacle course you're running while carrying about 50-70 extra pounds of trees around your hips......and every so often your foot falls through these things called duff holes and your whole leg disapears and you still haven't touched the bottom....or you get sucked into the black muck.......much like black holes it sucks you right in tight making it next to impossible to get out by yourself. Some of the bails you take are wicked....you can't help but laugh at yourself.  And then there is the partying.... working that hard makes you party even that much harder........full on funnels of beer and liquor!  days off in town are always good times........its funny to see us coming...we all travel in big packs......you never stray to far away from the packs safety.  weird.............

I got props on my blog skills, yo. This one goes out to Kendall, holler. Late night; early start. Out the door by 6:30. Meet up with Karl, Adam and Jeremy on the C-bus. Quick stop at McDonalds and we're off. I soon find out, much to my delight, that Adam will be rocking a full, hesh outfit for the afternoon. I'm talking tight-ass jeans, ammo belt, ripped, button-up vest and even a duct-taped snowboard. Killin' it! South park was pretty dope. I had a pretty wicked sesh. No bails, a few bangers; it was definitely fun. Adam was throwin some gnarly stuff on the down box. Butter to switch backside barley pretzel out? Wrap your head around that. I couldn't even name half the shi*t he was trying. Karl and Jeremy were killing it too, despite the icy conditions. One of the best days of riding I've had this year. Special guest appearances by Max and Kendall. Always a pleasure seeing people up there. I'll be at Tremblant tomorrow and Tuesday and hopefully getting some shots in the city this week. Shakedown this weekend; best of luck to Serge! Pho sesh with Andrew, Peace.

Wassup!

just got back from 2 alps. Had a hell of a time down there
They got a rad park, kept up every day!!!
Real great weather over there, but no f*cking snow fell, wrecked my board on those little damn stones on the slopes down to the village.

But I can't nag, cause I had the best time in the park and on the glacier(at least that's what my brain says, my body is still hurtin' over some bails I had :D Like that is ever gonna stop me!!!)

I'll post some pics as soon as I can..

Laters

PS: forgot to mention the title refers to the f*cked up weather in the netherlands!!! just grey and wet, sucks...

wehehell, we finally got some snow in the city! zero classes on thursday + 100000000 fresh snow flakes + 3 phone calls = lots of fun sliding kinked grinder bars and 1 ambulance. eric is possibly the best driver in ottawa .. he took over an hour to find the rail and drove by 5 times. awesome. but with ezras help, they finally made it. highlights include erics sloppy joe 50-50 50-50 180 out, ezra grinding the rail, calum grinding the rail (5-0 first try?) and calum ollieing eric when he was upside down in the garbage can. lowlights include derek breaking his leg and various other bails. storie, i hope you have a quick recovery dude! the next day, we went jibbing .. 16 stair flat bar. ezra almost shut the rail down with a blazing fury of tricks. i'll only tell you that he did a nollie fs 5-0 180 out because we didn't get it on film. the rest you'll have to wait and see! i landed a half cab 5-0 bs 180 out, but we didn't get that on film either. the highlight of the sesh was erics fs cowboy down the rail!!! no waaaay. well yeah. and today, i discovered da chicken crib. i suggest you check it out .. it's on montreal road. bomb fried chicken with a twist. don't sleep on it! bye for now.

the crappest organised event i've seen in a long time.
hardly any people showed up to watch, which i doubt had anything to do with the rain and a lot more to do with the ticket prices ($45 at the gate! f*ck THAT)
and the organisers didnt hook too many people up that should have been. for example we advertised the event in our snowboard shop, told people where to get tickets and hyped the event..... where were our free tickets???? not cool.
on a positive note, the quality of the jump was a lot better than previous years i must admit. the 60 foot gap of death, was a little less deadly.
i had recieved an invitation to jump, i was a little (very) hesitant to jump, i was quite happy to watch. but i convinced myself i could do it. just as i was ready to climb the scaffolding Heath ate it real hard. he washed out on the take off andflew straight into the hay bails on the wall of the gap..... and broke his leg.
great!
i decided not to jump after that, but i guess i changed my mind and went in the qulaifiers, my first jump was sweet, but my second jump, i dont know what happened, i know i smacked my head real hard and slid down the landing a long way! so i'm kinda hurting a little bit today.
