Hey Mate!! I was at the Oakley Style Wars in Fallscreek  Australia last week.. I had tons of Fun there! great parties at the Silver Ski Lodge with the whole Epic crew! I got to see my old friend PC from the Epic book.. runs in the gum trees, watch Travis’ movie.. I was hosting the contest for the web.. which was kind of funny.. I had tons of fun at the parties! we have seen some water spitting, beer fights, and even some wrestling at some point.. all in a fun party mood in the Aussie way. A that we improvised a trip to Torquay on the way down and went surfing, the water was freezing cold, but it was fun to catch a couple waves..

After the surfing, I joined the 2 Kristis ( Leskinen skier, and KT the Oakley marketing girl in Australia). We flew Sydney, ate some kanguru, did a couple PR stuff there with Alpha magazine and Sports Tonight Australia. I pet a koala and flew to New Zealand.. we spent the first day in Auckland for some more interviews for Sunrise (TV), Curl magazine, Sports Tonight NZ (TV), couple radio stations, and last but not least, we got on the Sports Cafe show hosted by some of the All Blacks (NZ national heroes).. they started asking us some tricky questions when a streaker jumped out of the public and shaked it right before my eyes on live national TV!! I was quite stoked to be there when that happened

anyways got to Queentsown the next day for the Oakley Chicks day out! which took place in Snowpark with another 50 girls.. the sun was shining and the park was super good, we shred together all day, i tryed to give them a couple tips, and we all rode back together to queenstown in a very loud busride. At night we all went for a bootie shake at the subculture bar where our friend RIA was DJing.. she killed it! she played tons of funk, which i love and we all danced all night.. and now I m tired and ready to go back to Euroland!

Thanks to Oakley and thanks tons to KT for organising this trip! thanks to all the girls for coming shredding with us, see you all next year!

I got to see my two favorite Australian bands on the one bill last night.  the Living End were on first, I didn't realize what a big following they had in Toronto (I kindof assumed 95% of the crowd were there to see silverchair).  This is their 3rd time playing in Toronto in 12 months.  I think these guys must spend 10 months a year touring, their live perfomance is pretty faithful to how they sound on their cds.  I was glad they played a lot of the songs from their first CD, I like their newer stuff too but theres something about 'Prisoner of Society' that reminds me of when I was in grade 4  & pretended to be an anarchist.  i'd forgotten how much i liked 'wake up'. at one time that was the highest played song on my itunes. they played a couple of songs I hadn't heard before, I'm not sure if they were new songs, or covers, but they sounded pretty damn good.  but it was their classics - Who's Gonna Save Us, Second Solution, West End Riot - I think everytime they started a new song I jumped up & yelled 'f*ck YEH!'. Hopefully they'll come out with a new cd soon, and they'll be back in Toronto again in 2007.

during intermission Jamie & I got chatting to two aussie backpackers.  they had been backpackign around Canada & the USA for the last year & were supposed to go back to Australia last month, but decided to extend their stay an extra month when they found out silverchair/the living end were playing.  Jamie & I were telling them about the big day out & the hottest 100,  there were a lot of australians at the kool house (maybe 20%?), I have a knack for spotting who the Australians are in a crowd. I have to say though Canadians, and Toronto especially love the chair.  I've seen silverchair four times, in four different countries (Auckland, Melbourne, Seattle, and now Toronto).   considering diorama came out 4 years ago, it is pretty amazing that their T.O. concert sold out in just a few days. during the show Daniel said they had recorded their new CD in Toronto, how cool is that?

the crowd were chanting 'sil-ver-chair', I think they were expecting the guys to come out with one of their heavier rock numbers, their first song was ... without you.  eh, wouldn't have been my pick, but the fans obviously loved diorama.  Tune in the Brine, and Luv Your Life sounded a bit weird to me ... I like those songs, but at a live show I would have rather seen the chairs heavier songs.  in fact most of the songs were from diorama.  Emotion Sickness sounded amazing, my highlight was Greatest View.   There weren't any songs from frog stomp not suprisingly, but they did play the Door & Freak.  Jamie tried in vain to stop me from singing along to Freak.  there were a new few songs, Straight Lines was easily my favorite,  I am definitely looking forward to the new cd, Young Modern.

they are very different bands but I would have to loved to see the Living End come back on & see the two bands do a few songs together (imagine silverchair + the living end covering some ACDC or Midnight Oil?).  but thats not how it ended up, Freak was the last song.

well I got my dose of Aussie rock for now, I know my mates in Brisbane were spewing when I told them about the show.  I hope silverchairs new cd does well, I don't think diorama did as well as their earlier stuff, but what bands are still selling CDs these days?  one thing going for silverchair, they don' have any problems selling out shows.

Researchers from countries as diverse as the United Kingdom, United States, Sweden, New Zealand, and Canada have made some unusual observations about the relationships people have with their cars. This includes what your car colour choices may reveal, and what applying a gender and a name to your vehicle may indicate about you. Even the astrological implications regarding the likelihood of accidents have been looked at.
Seriously folks, it's true.
Colorado State University psychology professor Jacob Benfield and his colleagues concluded in the journal: "Personality and Individual Differences," that about one quarter of people named their cars, and about half thought of their cars as either masculine or feminine.
His study also concluded that people who name their cars and apply a gender to them, "scored significantly higher than non-naming-vehicle-drivers on verbal aggression, physical aggression, driving anger and pejorative labeling/verbally aggressive thinking" – all of which would suggest a higher likelihood of car insurance issues somewhere down the road.
For anyone who occasionally wonders if some researchers have too much time on their hands, consider the following:
From Wikipedia:
  • "A Swedish study found pink cars safest, with black cars most likely to be involved in crashes (Land transport NZ 2005)."
  • "An Auckland, New Zealand study found a significantly lower risk of serious injury in silver cars; with high risks for brown, black, and green cars. (Furness et al, 2003)"
As details are sketchy, one is forced to wonder whether the researchers in the Swedish study applied any equalization to their calculations. Seriously, how many pink cars have you seen lately? Perhaps pink is a more popular colour for cars in Sweden, but we've never even seen a pink Volvo. Also, consider how many black cars there are on the roads. Is this the real reason that black cars appear to be more likely to be involved in an accident? Or are they harder to see at night? We can't say for sure, and apparently neither can the car insurance companies, or else they'd charge accordingly.
According to colormatters.com, the colour you choose for your car gives some insight into your personality. Apparently, if you choose:
  • White: You could be status-seeking and an extrovert.
  • Black: You're somewhat more likely to be aggressive, an outsider or a rebel.
  • Silver: You're probably cool, calm and slightly aloof, - probably ambitious too.
  • Green: It could be an indication of hysterical tendencies.
  • Blue: It's likely that you're reflective, introspective and cautious.
  • Gray: You're dedicated to work, and generally a calm and sober individual.
  • Yellow: You probably like novelty and are idealistic.
  • Red: You move and talk quickly and you're full of zest, energy and drive.
  • Pink: You're probably a kind, loving, gentle and affectionate person.
  • Cream: It could indicate a self-contained and controlled individual.
We have yet to find an auto insurance company that asks what the colour of your car is when determining your car insurance rates, and, thank goodness for that. What would be next? Questions about your astrological sign?
In fact, some researchers in the U.S. and Canada, have gone so far as far as to try to correlate astrological signs with a higher or lower likelihood of auto accidents. Fortunately for us, each study seems to come to a different conclusion.
Imagine the following: "Yes Mrs. Smith, we know that you've had a perfect driving record for the last fifteen years, but it concerns us that you keep referring to your vehicle as "My Black Stallion," and also, we see here by your birth date, that you're a Pisces with an Aries moon and Aquarius rising. The data strongly suggests that your luck simply can't hold out much longer, so, we're going to have to cancel your auto insurance policy."
Thankfully, the actuaries who develop the calculations that auto insurance companies use to determine auto insurance premiums, continue to remain "skeptical" of any apparent correlations, and continue to look to the more traditional, statistically relevant and somewhat more "boring" methods of calculating your auto insurance risk, namely:
  • Your age and location.
  • Your previous driving record.
  • And, the type of vehicle that you drive.
Smart folks those actuaries.
Now if an actuary were giving you advice on your car insurance premiums, they'd tell you to shop around for several quotes before you buy. They may even recommend kanetix as the best place to get your car insurance quote, to save you both time and money. Besides, the alignment of the stars today, suggest that it's a great day for finding a little extra coin in your pocket.

So if my next vehicle is blue...does that mean I'm going to be a cautious driver?...oh hell no!

So right now I'm in Auckland, the most populated city in New Zealand. FINALLY! muahaha

I think I've finally gotten used to the time change, since I slept for 5 hours yesterday afternoon, and for a ton more hours last night. My next plan is to get a bus heading to Queenstown on Sunday, and it'll probably take over a day to get there. But at least I'll get to see more than I would if I was on a plane!

I'm really indecisive about what to do today, there's lots to do here, but I keep trying to stay awake from anything TOO touristy...but really, I should just accept that I AM a tourist, and do whatever the hell I want...right? =D

I met a really cool graf artist/gallery owner named Andres while wandering around downtown San Francisco, and Shepard Fairey (OBEY) just had an exhibit at his gallery last month. Andres showed me a bunch of art in the storage areas of the gallery, like some original OBEY works and also some of his. DOPE shi*t that's for sure. We hit it off and he got me into a couple bars (since I'm underaged in the US) and I kicked his ass at pool. haha. He showed me around town and we had a super fun time. yea yea!

So now I'm off to wander the city and find some fun. It's too hilly here so I can't skate. Boo!

okay well the 17 hour bus trip on the grey hound to calgary was stupid im gonna try get a flight back or maybe crash in kelowna on the way for a day or two cuz that trip was just way to long! but good to see calsey, the plane to nyc was sick though brand new mad entertainment system and what not! good times all round! NY is insane there a over 8million people on manhattan island thats double NZ in the a smaller space than auckland! kristi met me at the airport well kinda i couldnt find each other at first but it worked out in the end! mannn the air port was fulll of them full-on jewish guys with like the hats and crazy hair and what not! took the sub way to kristis part of town it was amazing, it goes every where! auckland needs some sort of transport! and its cheap you can go any where in the city for 2$ because after you go down into the subway system you pay your 2 and then get out any where in the city! i got a week long ride as much as you like for 24$ thats so sick! auckland sucks a fat one! kristi lives in what looks like the hood! theres is grafftit every where, every where! and inside the hall way is nasty, but here apartments fine tiny but nice! walked around the city today saw timesquar and what not rolled round on the subway! the city is always so busy theres always people every where! its rather clean though and seams very safe i mean k lives in the lower east side (not the best area, but not fukin mobb deeps hood or any thing) and it seams fine you see mad gangstars but they aint gonna jack ya! so off to do more walkin round the city tomorrow china town and that! should be fun!

And so it is getting warm again...

hot even...

and those devine long days,

just BLISS.

I have finally gotten over my addiction to winters, and can now cope in a normal 12 month year with all four seasons.

The northern Mountain closes on Sunday 21st - still with a 3 metre base (not bad!) -

and then I leave here, this horrible smelly busy rushing city... with too many people, and far too many cars,

and then I get to go home...

and this time, For GOOD.

Sunday 28th November, I kiss Auckland goodbye, as i drive over the bombays and pop out of the bubble.... and won't look back.

Thank god, Spring is in its later days, and Summer is nearly here. Taking me home to the fresh air and clean water and all that rock to climb..

I have one more day before I head up the south island to go to the north island (of NZ) to play! YAY!!!!! So, ever since I've started working at the Internet Outpost I've started doing lotsa computer stuff AND NOW, I kinda get to go on a work trip...although not really.

First, we're gonna go to Ohau, where I broke my board the first time and hurt my knee again. Then, we're gonna go to Nelson, Kaikora, and Christchurch. Then we fly off to Rotarora and then to Taupo and then to Auckland and then to 90 mile beach and places around there! And I don't have to drive or pay for the car we're going in...I love work trips!

Catch me if you can!

ive had a little idea today and i think its a good idea.
so i was all set to do the serious thing, go back to uni get smart again after all of my europe and snow adventures this year but you know what...well i was thinking about it and i realised that is just an all together boring idea so instead im
moving to new zealand
pretty cool huh, i can work a little here, work a little head on up up to the mountains and play in a little snow. but yeah seriously i cant deal with waiting around to do the fun stuff, i dont want to be serious now and be happy later ie defferred happieness, life cant be as serious as people say, it cant really matter if im a business graduate with a fancy car and good job, or if i just head off around the world, work when i need to and experience life when i want to....well thats what im telling myself anyway, so its time for some serious saving and then next stop auckland new zealand

The flight here was long, but surprisingly not too painful. I flew Vancouver to L.A. to Auckland to Queenstown. I was worried that when I landed in L.A. that I would be lost in the expanse of the LAX. Turns out I only had to walk from gate 32 to gate 34; didn't even have to leave the terminal.. phew, what a relief. I quickly learned that drinks on international flights are free. I pounded a few beers with dinner, watched "Starsky and Hutch", and managed to sleep for the remainder of the twelve and a half hour flight. I awoke to sunrise in New Zealand. I was picked up in Queenstown by the Westbeach NZ distributor and shuttled to Wanaka, a small town in the center of New Zealand's south island.

The houses here are cold. No central heating, no insulation, no double pained windows. For the most part, breath can be seen inside. I've been wearing pants and hoodie to sleep, along with 2 blan
kets in hopes of staying warm. Everyone seems to have electric blankets; I'm thinking about investing in one.

So far, I've been back and forth between two houses. The first belongs to Crispin, Neil and Molly (fellow Canadians). A three bedroom place with ample living space, and a comfy fold out couch that I have claimed as mine. The second belongs to Terri and Lesley (more fellow Canadians) along with four other kiwi girls and one kiwi boy, Zeb. It's a nice house over looking Wanaka lake with a huge deck and fireplace that is always blazing. I think Zeb is happy to have me around, I can only imagine how hard it would have been to regulate that house full of ladies.

You can't buy regular filtered coffee here - just expresso drinks.

The mountains are beautiful; I've been riding lots already. There are three mountains within a 40min drive from here. SnowPark is one huge snowboard park; Cardrona is a big mountain with good terrain and a decent park; Treble Cone is all fr
eeride with crazy views. The boys at Westbeach hooked me up with a $300 industry pass for Cardrona which would normally cost $800 plus. I've been riding there mostly.

I'm off to Christ Church tomorrow morning; road trip, woooo! We are attending a rail contest there on Saturday night. If everything works out, we'll get to ride Mt. Hutt along the way, and possibly on of the "Club Fields". The Club Fields are privately own ski resorts that a generally very tiny, but with some crazy backcountry access. I'm excited.

I have to get off the computer - I'll keep you updated as time goes on. So until next time, keep fit and have fun. Ha.
- jeff
