beenie has created a new forum topic being late for snowboarding. Posted on Dec 17, 2008
My friend just slept in, it's snowing hard in the city, and cypress has had 6cms overnight.  Good show friend.

Props to those people that have their alarm clock game on lock down.  Shit, I set two independent alarms before I go to sleep and then I wake up 5 mins before either goes off, that's how tight my game is.  DEAL.

beenie has created a new forum topic peak2peak warning. Posted on Dec 16, 2008
When I paid for my lift ticket on Friday the cashier casually asked if I was planning on riding the p2p as it was opening day.  I said to her that I might if the lineup wasn't too long at the end of the day.  So I went on my merry way noticing the receipt seemed high, but writing it off thinking it was just taxes.  Later that day somebody told me that you have to pay extra to have access to p2p.  Turns out I paid 7 dollars extra for my pass that day.  I wasn't too disgruntled because the p2p was pretty cool, but if the cashier had explained to me that it was extra I probably would have said no thanks.

So don't get fooled.

I thought high pressure was supposed to dominate the weekend so I went to my parents last night and...

that high pressure is keeping the newest low centered directly on top of my parents house.  There's a foot of snow on the ground this morning and it's still snowing hard.

beenie has created a new forum topic Park Jumps With Powder Landings. Posted on Dec 09, 2008
I saw this in the new Park City video and now I'm wondering why the hell this isn't more common - after a snowfall to groom the take-off and leave the landing.  I know it wouldn't last long into the day as the landing would get progressively bombed out, but still... imagine the first few laps.  Mt. Baker did this once when I was there, it was awesome.  Can any of the Baker locs tell me whether this is a common practice there?

cheaper than coffee, twice the energy, and gets your poop out of the way for the day!

beenie has created a new forum topic the budget snowboarding thread (it's cheap yo). Posted on Dec 03, 2008
useful money saving tips

-MEC gear in size 2XL looks good, has all the basic but important features and it's cheap yo.
-Bagels at Whistler: dense nutrition that won't deform in your pocket, and at whistler they have toasters and free philly cream cheese, jams, and peanut butter.  And they're cheap yo.
-Work gloves:  I'm trying this for the first time this season, I heard about Baker locals doing this and it makes sense to me.  full leather gloves that I'm going to treat with my hiking boot wax, lined with wool or synthetic thin gloves.  They're cheap yo.
-Army and Navy Watchman toques (yes I'm from Canada).  They look good, every year new colors come out, and they're cheap yo.
-Whistler is too expensive for me I can give this one up.  At the coffee stand in the roundhouse there is a tray for coffee accoutrements.  The one that says chocolate makes really good hot chocolate, just get the hot water from the cafeteria and dump a bunch of that shit in there.  The best part is - it's free yo!

Everyone and their pomeranian owns one in Vancouver.

beenie has created a new forum topic Good weather websites.. Posted on Dec 02, 2008
I use http://www.nwac.us/mtnweather.htm for baker weather, and wunderground.com for forecasting but I'm starting to wonder whether that site isn't so good here in Canada.  Although I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it is more accurate than the canadian weather network who seems to be solely concerned with weather in around Toronto.

Also, this: http://images.drivebc.ca/bchighwaycam/pages/index.html is pretty good for keeping tabs on the weather accross B.C.

beenie has created a new forum topic Jobs that are good for shred. Posted on Dec 01, 2008
I'd like to hear about other people's jobs that allow them to stack cash and ride all winter, or even just scrape by while snowboarding all winter.

I would like to submit "geophysical helper".  I have been doing this for a little while now because I'm going to school to become a geophysicist and school is an expensive mutha.  Here's the score.  You can get hired without any school/experience as a helper.  Pay can be 170$ a day to start with a lot of room to go up once you gain experience.  The work is outdoors, often in the mountains in remote camps.  All expenses are paid so it's really easy to save money.  The work is rigorous and will leave your legs in ride away from a flat landing shape.  Here's the kicker... The off season is winter!  There are winter jobs but they are few and far between.  This means that you can go on EI as a seasonal employee during the winter months if you've logged enough hours (something I fell short of this year...)

Bonus:  during my first month in this industry I ended up at a remote camp in the mountains near Smithers, B.C.  It was August, but because of the elevation it was still snowing and some of the seasons snowpack was still around.  After a couple days in camp I learned that the first aid officer was a snowboarder, and not only that, but he brought his snowboard with him.  After a short day of surveying I borrowed the snowboard, hiked up to the top of a cirque filled with wet summer snow and got turns.
