Friday March 10th 2006-
Back to Ski Bowl again. Took the kid this time and we had a blast. He had a few minor spills on the first run and then he was right back in the groove.  He took to the air quite a few times with grabs and 180's just like the old days. It was great and his hip held up great(went hiking the next day, too) and we are planning another trip between Wednesday and Friday of this week.
As for me things are starting to click again. There was plenty of powder to slow things down so I had a great opportunity to get my turns linking up again. Hopefully I'll finish the season w/o feeling like I have to pull that "intermediate" riding ability down to "beginner", but no matter, I'm riding again and that's all that counts.

FINALLY got back on the mountain tonight after darn near three years, thanks to some very cool people.
I definitely have a ways to go to get back where I was, but it's happening! Yeah, baby!

*********

Posted some pictures from last Spring and Summer. Spent a combined 4 days offroading east of Detroit Lake out around Opal Creek/Falls and south on FS 10 and 11. We explored a lot of trails and roads. Beautiful country.

After seeming to recover from his hip injury during physical therapy, my son eventually regressed and is now on permanent medication. He is staying active, but decided not to ride this year following a brief trip together. He loves to hit the jumps, but even a small kicker was too much. We would like to see him back in physical therapy as that showed the most promise, but he is 19 now and it has become his own choice. The medication has some side effects, some not too good, but so far all is well. As always, thank you to everyone for sharing their experiences, ideas, suggestions, support and well wishes. His attitude is real good, so we are confident he will do what he wants to do despite the trouble he has.

As for me, well, it's time to get out and ride. Right now I think my mother could kick my butt hiking a trail, even if she wasn't a Forest Ranger. Let that be a lesson kiddies - don't let family and work issues slow you down or hold you back. Life goes on and it's only worth living if you actually live the plans you make instead of dreaming about them.

Well, my friends that made it up to Hood this weekend had a blast in the powder. It might start to rain on it I hear, so I'm sure it will be an ice cube by the time I can get back up there.
On a sad note, a skier suffocated in a tree well at Crystal Mountain this weekend. And the search for the missing snowshoer was called off, although he may turn up in a bar in Cozumel or somewhere like that.

My first season riding has been pretty successful, although as I write this I am recovering from a sepparated shoulder I gave myself the first of March. A quick end to what promised to be a great day of riding.

I gotta thank my snowboard trainer and riding buddy, who also happens to be my son, for getting me into this. I'm an addict already!

Ride well, ride safe.
