Chill’s 1st Annual “Rain City Rail Jam”
The “Rain City Rail Jam” is an event that will take place to benefit the Seattle Burton Chill Program and celebrate 10 years of introducing inner city youth to the sport of snowboarding.
To date more than 1800 at-risk Seattle youth have benefited from this free program which provides them with everything needed for this experience: head-to-toe gear, transportation, lessons and lift tickets.

Here’s what’s planned for the Rain City Rail Jam…

“Chill is really proud of how we’ve been able to contribute to the Seattle community over the last ten years,” said Ryan Simpson, National Chill Coordinator. “Over 1800 kids have had this life-changing opportunity and it couldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for amazing volunteers, generous local sponsors and the Summit at Snoqualmie which has been such a gracious host mountain for the program.”
Who We Are Chill is a nonprofit intervention program for disadvantaged inner-city kids. Chill teaches underprivileged, at-risk kids to snowboard over six weeks each winter, giving them everything they need for the experience: lift tickets, instruction, bus transportation and head-to-toe gear. We currently have programs in 14 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada that will reach 2210 kids in 2006.
Who We Serve Chill partners with youth and social service agencies in each of our program sites. The participating agencies in Seattle are: Rise N’ Shine, Ruth Dykeman Children’s Center, United Indians Youth Home, IMPACT, Ryther Child Center, SafeFutures Youth Center, New Beginnings, Friends of Youth-Griffin Home, Interagency Academy, Kirkland Teen Union Building, Garfield Teen Life Center, Seattle Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA-Family Services and Mental Health, Seattle Children’s Home, Big Brother Program of Seattle, King County Stay In School Program, Olive Crest Foster Care, New Start, TREC Program, Old Fire House Teen Center, DCFS, Meadow Brook Community Center.
