Whistler, BC, January 17, 2006:   Showcase Snowboards and Sapient are pleased to announce that registration for the 9^th Annual Showcase Showdown is now open! The Showcase Showdown, now in its 8^th season, takes place at Whistler Blackcomb’s Night Pipe February 24-25, and guarantees to be this years most innovative, entertaining and unique rider driven snowboard even of the season!

The Showcase Showdown has always been about advancement of the sport, evolving over the years from a ¼ Pipe competition to a Monster Box Jib Jam, and this year to a Pipe-style: incorporating tombstones, rails, boxes and spines into Whistler Blackcomb’s infamous Night Pipe to create a whole new style of ½ pipe competition.

Sapient is proud to sign on as the headline sponsor this year, moving the date to February 24-25, and throwing down $25,000 CDN cash prizing. Anon, RED, Option, Vans, Salomon-Bonfire and 32 top off the list of sponsors contributing over $15,000 in prizing as well. There are 90 spots open to pros of all ages for the weekend event.

Promotions coordinator Zoltan Katchanoski says the event has always been a great grass roots event “made by riders, for riders… and it’s all about having fun. This year we are hoping to bring it to the next level, becoming a highly regarded international event. It's never going to be the Olympics and we don't want it to be, this is about having fun with some friends and cheering each other on.”
