My Journal

Seems I hadnt updated since like march. My trip to Colorado was SIIICK.  I never did so much glade riding in my life. Crazy stuff. All the mountains had something to offer, though I think I enjoyed Copper the most. We were up on an ice bridge at the top of a mountain, and we took some off the beaten path/possibly out of bounds trail down. Lost my friend along the way, totally untracked stuff, not even snowmobile tracks around. I thought I was gonna end up popping out on the highway. I truly was alone, riding through glades and jumping over small creeks, lost in the wilderness, so I thought. BEst riding experience ever.

I did learn something about me though. I found that I truly am more of a freerider than a freestyle person.  I only do freestyle at Creek because that's ALL there is to do, and I don't even do that too often, due to icy conditions/crappy landings.

Anyhow, the new season approaches and I pretty much have all new gear from last season, though I'm probably going to swap out my freestyle deck with something stiffer, like a Skunk Ape or the such.

So, I bought a timeshare out in breckenridge for dirt cheap. Total costs were like $86. Thats right, eighty-six dollars. Hot, huh?

Got that all set, now just gotta tag airfare, and next month I'll be taking my first trip away from the east coast snowboard scene. To date the biggest mountains I've rode were Killington and Stratton. I'm sure I'm in for a crazy experience.

Can't wait!

We're about at the midway mark for the east coast season now. There's not been much of a snowfall, 2 warm spells, and quite a bit of ice. Most people are usual naysayers, saying we've gotten off easy for the winter, but here in NY/NJ area, out big snowfalls come after Valentines Day, and then again in mid March. It's been this way for the past 4-5 years. How quickly people forget.

I've competed in 3 boardercross comps, lost one, got 3rd place in the other two. The guy that took first in the last 2 is a retired pro rider who'd been riding since 1984. How the heck are amateurs supposed to compete with that? LOL He was cool though, so kudos to him.

Going to be planning a late march trip to Colorado this week, so I'm amped about that. Should be good fun. I miss riding in powder. Its been over 5 years now.

I need to start kickin up my tricks and jibs more. I do NOT want to go through this season without some good pics and video footage. I really need to take a day off so I can ride during the day when the conditions are NOT a sheet of ice.

Mountain Creek put a nice flow of features in South this year, last nights slightly slushy conditions made it a nice ride. Minus for the fact of having a fever and the chills while riding, it was a good night.
My CHB was performing like it never had before. It absolutely took my breath away with how smooth it hit rails and jumps, and the speed.. that stick never booked it so fast ever in its life!

I think it's jealous of the Dark Series (even though I havent ridden that stick yet) and it was showing off last night. Nontheless, Im definitely keeping it in riding rotation!

Oh and we're in for 5-6 inches tomorrow and maybe 2 feet on sunday! woot!!

Sunday I'll be going up with my usual peeps to Big Boulder to session their parks. Its supposed to snow Sunday too, so I hope it doesn't make traveling TOO sucky. I bought gear to wax and tune up my board today, and tuned up and waxed my board to the best of my ability/recollection from how one of my buddies did it. I hope it came out okay, I really winged it!

So, Ive got my Dark Series 161w on order, as well as a pair of Salomon F20 boots, and will pick up a pair of Salomon Relay pros to put the two together.

Am invesitgating North Face gear this year, as far as clothes go, mostly because I like the colors and styles being offered.

Am contemplating taking a ride out to Big Boulder next week to get a few runs in early on. Gotta get warmed up for the season!

I also found a pair of last year's Vans Contra Boa boots, which I might pick up for BoarderX racing use

I realzied that I hadnt posted here since like September. i moved back east in December, just in time for snowboard season. Id been riding around 15-25 times so far, with trips to Liberty Mountain in southern Pennsylvania and Windham in the Catskills.

Bigups to Liberty for showing me how a terrain park is SUPPOSED to be laid out, as well as for having a SnowboardCross track for me to ride on!

No bigups to Windham for making me make a trip to check out their halfpipe only to find out it was a 16 foot pipe. i was looking for an 8-10 ft. Guess I'll have to hit Big Boulder before the season's out.

Season's going good so far at Creek. Ive gotten a lot of my confidence back that I lost a few years ago when i injured myself, which is cool. Im riding faster, hittin more rails, hitting or at least attempting ALL the jumps. Good stuff. I hope we get a big snowstorm mid March to keep the season going till april!

So, as a snowboard philosopher, Ive been pondering the art of jumps, as I think ive begun to understand and perform the art of nose/tail presses, although somewhat sketchy still.

Now, in the past, ive always just wanted to jump over the lip of the jump, often landing on top of the tabletop or on the knuckle... and I had a revelation on Saturday...

I was riding with a beginner level friend, on upper/lower horizon..on the left were a bunch of well formed rollers to play with... I bombed right at them, jumped and cleared each one, properly setting up my landing to get ready for the next roller jump...and by the last of the rollers, I was jumping pretty far over it. it was at that point that my view on jumps, such as kickers/tabletops clicked...

Ive been aiming to clear the lip, but not the whole top of the table...sorta like a checkswing in baseball. you dont hit the ball very hard that way... I understand now that my goal as I head towards a lip is to jump OVER the entire jump, and keep my speed so I land on the downward transition.

Im looking forward to trying this tomorrow.

I just got back from Killington yesterday. I went with Brandon and a slew of people I didnt know. 50+ people in all. Pretty sweet.

We drove up through that big storm on Friday morning.. lots of jack-knifed trucks on the roads. it took us about 7 hours to make it there... we couldnt get a good deal on a half day pass (they wanted $50!) so we bought some gear, ate, chilled out.

Rode on sat.. AWESOME conditions. man we were sore by the end of the day... the first day of the season always hurts ;)

rode Sunday for a few hours. spent most of the time in the park. hit a little jump over and over to work on getting comfortable with my jumps.. went to the rail park on reason. hit the flat funbox and the kink funbox... first time I went OVER the upward kink, landed into a frontside boardslide on the downkink.. at the last second, I leaned too far back and the boad slipped out.. hit my tailbone on the edge of the box. no major injury, but man that sucked. LOL.

Im amped that Mountain Creek is open on weekdays already. I'll be up there tomorrow!

Must ride.
Ugh the torture! November always sucks on the east coast because of this. The start of snowboard season is like Christmas to me...the weeks of waiting before it comes is torture!

Update of sorts

So we're about midway through the season now, I've been out about 4 or 5 times so far, and Im back up to speed with my riding with how I was riding before my injury last season. One thing I've learned not to do is to go big on jumps in non-powder conditions. Until I can master my landings, Im not messing with icy landings. Though, I really am interested in utilizing the big pay-park on North at MC. I just need to get the confidence to hit some of those boxes. I am dying to hit that C-Box. That looks beautiful. I think it will happen this season.

WE NEED MORE SNOW!

BOOM!
Went to Stratton again over easter break, and in the process, dislocated my elbow. Suckage. Fortunately its the end of the season. Unfortubately, my arm may never again fully extend straight out, which will affect my archery.

Went to Stratton.
Got 16 inches of snow.
Stratton RULES!
Trees hurt.
Glades are fun
Trees hurt.
LOVE Stratton.
Love trees, not running into them.
Trees hurt.
Dont ride into trees in the glades.
Sore now.
Bye!

damn i gotta update this more often =)

Been up riding at Creek a lot... been riding with another snowboard.com rider who goes by rudy4u51 here... He kicks ass! So yeah, like all the people I ride with at MC are from snowboard.com ...which is pretty damn cool =)

My board STILL needs to be waxed and tuned up. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and do that today. It REALLY needs it.

Outside that, I'm getting better with my riding... Im able to do small 180 jumps while freeriding....I want to be able to clear the tabletop on south tho. I think thats going to be my next big goal. Ive already learned how to ride the batleship rail and whatnot, so now its time for the next thing. =)

One of these days Im going to get my trick right... a 360 Rocket Air... thats the goal. =)

The first day of the 03/04 season
Went up to Mountain Creek yesterday with Brandon. I was a bit freaked out at first, cuz I had new boots that I hadnt tried out yet. Anyway, we get to riding, and I find that my new boots are AWSOME. There is so much support and they are so much more comfortable than my old boots.
Anyway, the day out was great, the conditions were really good, minus some large ice rocks and whatnot that tripped me up once in a while. The park at South was still being worked on, so there wasnt much to play with. Yet, it was just ncie to be out snowboarding again. Ive missed it a LOT! I need to tune my snowboard up this week.
It looks like I'll be riding on Thursdays mostly, and occasionally on Saturdays when im feeling like dealing with a crowd.

Greeetings and welcome to the end of the summer! Yes, it sucks that summer is ending and the chicks will all be wearing more clothes and stuff, but look on the bright side - we're getting close to snowboard season again!I for one am dying to go riding again. I miss the adrenaline rush!

Anyway, things with the company are going alright. We have some administrative help now, to deal with a lot of the legal BS of running a corporation. The game itself is goin a bit slower than expected, as we have had to clean out the company of lazy people. Yay. We have a mini-game near completion now, which is a puzzle game for cell phones. It should be ready to be released in 2 weeks from now, so that'll help promote the company some more. Other than that, we're still working, and trying to get some investors. Work work work...

Want to go boarding! Grah! _

Game development status -

Hey crew. Long time no post. Anyway, here's whats cooking. Its June and my board is put away until later on this year when the snow comes back to Mountain Creek. Last winter RULED..we had so much fresh powder..it was great. =)

Anyway, Here's whats going on. Our videogame is nearing the completion stage for the playable demo, which is expected to be ready by late August/early Sepetember. At that time, we'll be going to Redmond , Washington to present the game to Nintendo. Upon approval we'll get a production budget and be working on the game around the clock.

For more info about the development company and the game, go to http://www.brokenattitude.com
