"Judy's Calls"

"Uh, um f*ck! NO I AM NOT HERE! I, uh can't talk to them right now, tell them I am out."

These familiar words ring true with every human being. Those who we try to avoid for one reason or another due to their endless babbles about their woes on the phone.

Last night the phone rings.

My mother, a caring and very understanding woman knows. She knows who is on the other end. "I am not here," she says without reservation, waving her hands in an attempt to stop the other person from asking for her. She stood still as i picked up the receiver. "Oh hi Judy," I begin. "Ah well she..." Before I utter another word my mother nods in defeat, and reaches for the phone. "Yes, hold on please she is right here." As I hand the receiver to her I manage a wink and a tinge of a smile.

Mummy knew that this was no "How do you do?" call, so she made herself comfortable in the living room before she awknowleged Judy's reason for calling. Yet, she knew the reason. She always knows the reason. Her former roomate for 10 years lives in Atlanta, Georgia surrounded by a deep depression, and a world of anxiety.

One can only listen intently for so long before they too begin to share the psychosis. The song she sings is always the same. Cries ensue as quickly as they dissapate on a rollercoaster of emotion. My mother's voice always reassuring her that she is there and everything will be fine. If only Judy could see her eyes rolling after the first hour passes.

I slithered back into the confines of my room. About 40 minutes thereafter, I hear an annoyed voice snap, "YES MEGHAN, I'LL BE THERE IN A MINUTE!" I thought for a moment that maybe Judy's mind had crept into that of my mother's. But after realizing that an hour and 40 minutes after the initial "Hello Judy," my mother was still caught in her grips, I came to the conclusion that her snap was her way of trying to get away.

I must commend my mother's tactics. Although she feels for her lifelong friend, mummy never seems to think that she helps Judy, being that she is not a phsycologist. I am sure in some way Judy finds comfort in my mother, but when the phone hangs up Judy begins the battle for sanity all over again.

We all have been guilty of not wanting to speak with people for these very reasons. My suggestion to you is find a time where you know you don't have anything going on, no good tv shows are on, dinner has been cleaned up and you are carrying all of your wits about you, and say that you will call them then. Make it on your time, not theirs. Remember you need to hold onto your sanity as well, so why not talk to them when you want to do so? Always remember to ask questions every so often to act as if you are still interested. That is always helpful. Good Luck!

Night On the Town

Eating a fancy dinner at Link's restaurant with a 65 year old Italian man named Carmen, who is cousins with Joe Pesci, while watching some middle-aged comedians do impersonations of Tom Jones, all the while getting hammered from straight up vodka.

$150

Going through the Lincoln Tunnel not once but TWICE b/c I am an idiot.

$16
(You may be asking wait a minute why $16? It's only $6 each time. Well smartie here thought that little miss passenger link gave her a $5 and a $1 on the second go around and so little miss smartie took off w/o getting the change.)

Running out of gas also b/c I am an idiot.

$25

Forgetting where you parked your car in NYC and wandering aimlessly for an hr and a half while the sun comes up. Only to find out that you had been just about walking passed it for the whole duration.

f*ckING PRICELESS!

Music Moves

In observing people at live shows I have taken notice and have been intrigued by the way in which music truly moves the soul. For some the movement comes from screaming and pointing feverishly, others feel it pulsating in the break downs and beats, and as for me it comes from the sheer joy of hearing a band with brilliant musicality and an infectious stage presence.

Music has a way of feeding, healing and reviving the inner-core. We have all had one song along the way that has always made us feel comforted. A band that makes you get up and move even when you are feeling down. It solidifies a place in time, and reminds you of that day you'll never want to forget.

Music is a time a place a feeling a dream a common ground a way of life. It is an integral part of our lives. Without music what would life be like? Elevators would be that much more awkward and confining. Automobiles would be silent bubbles on those cross-country trips with the family. Campfires would have no Kumbyas, and dance clubs would be non-existant. We all rely on this artform to add a soundtrack to our lives

Embrace music.
Appreciate music.
Enjoy music.

It is the key to our souls.

Unscripted

Father: "See that light from beyond the horizon?"
Son: "Yes, mama said it was God."
Father: "She's right you know."
Son: "Daddy, why doesn't God look like a person?"
Father: "Well, if God were a person than you wouldn't know who he was right? He could be anyone."
Son: "I guess."
Father: "Just know this, the sun will always rise and always set. Even on a cloudy day the sun is up there above the clouds. He is watching us. God, like the sun, is always there."
Son: ..."And at night?"
Father: "He's there watching other parts of the world, letting you sleep."
Son: "So he's like mama?"
Father: "What?"
Son: "God's like mama, he also has eyes in the back of his head."
Father: Letting out a chuckle, "Yes son, he is like mama."

I ashamed at myself for living under a rock the past few weeks and not even realizing that a legend has passed in our midst.

Those who recall Wesley Willis' songs, tend to let a out a chuckle. With his horrible reverbed compositions, atop videogame-like backing beats this man was a pure genius in the evolution of electro-monotone yelling kinda stuff...If that makes any sense.

uh ya anyway, with songs like Cut the Mullet, Rock and Roll McDonalds, I whooped Batman's Ass and Suck a Cheetah's Dick, I am in kahoots as to why this brilliant man was never nominated for a Grammy or at the very least a moonman.

His masterpieces were weirdly engaging yet annoying and redundant to say the very least. Listening to Wesley Willis for inordinate amounts of time lead most people want to commit a double murder suicide. First you would kill your friends who are making you listen to more than 2 songs in one sitting, then you would kill yourself for having done so.

I believe that Mr. Willis was the mix tape king. I would have at least one song on every mix tape. This was always the safest way to listen to him without wanting to do harm to yourself or others afterwards.

Wesley will be remembered in many hearts as the homeless bum who made money from sh*tty yet great songs and continued to remain homeless in order to stay close to his roots. LONG LIVE WESLEY WILLIS!!! rock over london rock on chicago!!! Wheaties, breakfast of champions.

Today marks a somber day in the music world.

God bless you Johnny Cash. You taught us that simplicity is the key.

Highwayman

I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride.
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow.
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
around and around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again...

thank you RIP

Do you remember where you were?

The moment the world stood still.
The day we learned what it meant to be a hero, what it meant to be vulnerable, what it meant to be American. Our eyes fixated on the movie which played before us in real time. Mouths ajar for hours in attempts to comprehend the plot. Yet it was not a movie. This was to be our reality for years to come. They painted their words clearly in the blood of the innocent. We heard, we saw, we felt.

We remember 9/11 rest in peace.

The light far brighter than I ever imagined. My body hangs in the moon's light. Flames dance on my flesh as the music plays the song of defeat. The lesson is to be taught if nothing else.

Never hang your heart,
Never bare your soul,
Never let a breath in for just one moment.
The chance is too great for a burning.

But I shall rise above. I shall dance in the flames, bask in the moon's light. For there is a tomorrow full of tomorrows to follow. I have placed defeat in my hands only to offer it to the fire, which burns from within.

Never hang your heart,
Never bare your soul,
Never let a breath in for just one moment.
The chance is too great for a burning.

i look alive and i've waited, waited.
i look a look alive and i've waited for this...

right here right now,
there is no other place i'd rather be.

right here right now,
watching the world wake up from history.

the long overdue recap of the weekend:

Drove down to NYC to see liviya. Got there in 2hrs and 45 mins which was to me a new record. got a prime parking spot literally at her front door. i didn't even have to move it the whole three days. for anyone who knows NYC this is unheard of. so we spent the day shopping our cares away, eating tremendous food, and taking pictures of cockroaches. it was a good day.

i took a 1/2 hr cat nap and when livi woke me up i was extatic to have my face in a puddle of my own drool. ah yes sleeping with no pillow, always a joy.

we ventured downtown at 11:00pm to her friend's bar, had a drink talked about the stupidity of guys then decided to be on our way. came home and went to bed.

sunday we woke and made blueberry pancakes and coffee and discussed the finer points of how stupid guys are...then went shopping for round two. dollar stores abound and we were in heaven...who ever thinks that NYC is too expensive just follow myself or liv and we will show you just how afforable it can be. later on that day we met up with colleen (fotolady) and her friend joy and we bonded quicker than superglue to fingers.

colleen, who is doing a documentary on female snowboarders, spotted a company of NYC firefighters...hot ones i might add and asked if they would pose for a picture with us. they obliged and click click her work was done. they stuck around like little puppy dogs flirting with us and then invited us back to their firehouse.

a few drinks later we arrive to smiles and winks. joy had said that she was goig to make out with the cute one by the end of the night...we all just laughed...but to our surprise she accomplished her goal and got a number in the process.

after we said our goodbyes to the men in uniform, we made our way to brooklyn for the link birthday festivites. met up with the brooklyn crew and had the bar all to ourselves.

next day livi and i had more pancakes and went to see step into liquid...it was a killer movie and i suggest it to anyone. ANYONE! after that i ambled back home to massachusetts in again record time.

thank you to everyone for making the weekend so memorable.
